[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
I was unable to execute these commands. The last generated an error: couldn't find package linux-image-2.6.34-v9patch-generic I tried the patch after being told that it might make it possible for me to upgrade to Ubuntu v10. I'm still unable to upgrade to Ubuntu v10: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9774440#post9774440 The first command in your list is erroneous (apt-add). I'm sure this is plain to see for most people, but it does not fill a feeble linux user like myself with confidence. -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625703] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] White screen after login
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg On Ubuntu 10.04, using Xorg-edgers PPA. - yesterday with updated packages, my "Gnome" session was working well with Compiz. - today I updating my packages (including xorg-edgers's ones), - after rebooting, my "Gnome" session leads me to a white screen where i can see the mouse cursor, and Compiz seems to work (a Compiz workspace chooser effect works, showing a small version of my 4 workspaces, but they are all white) - Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (that I had configured previously also) works and leads me to GDM. >From GDM I can connect without any problem to "Kubuntu", "Lubuntu" and "Gnome failsafe" sessions. So I guess this bug is related to a combinaison of Compiz + today's XorgPPA update. Please also note that for this bug report , I did "ubuntu-bug xorg" from a "Gnome failsafe" session. I tried the workaround given in this bug description and it worked, which meansthat the problem is affecting Plymouth once again. -- Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532047 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625239] Re: Pressing enter key kills X
I did an experiment. I renamed the plymouth-splash.conf file in the /etc/init folder to *.disabled and then re-started without plymouth. It worked! This problem is affecting plymouth and not X. ** Also affects: plymouth (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Pressing enter key kills X + Pressing Enter crashes both X and plymouth in graphical mode ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts up, if I press the enter key (occurs only with the enter key) X shuts down and starts again in around 2 seconds. In the session of X that comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur. + + UPDATE: Problem seems to be affecting plymouth and is a lot similar to + bug #532047, however in this case GRAPHICAL plugin is affected. The + workaround on that bug works, and pressing enter crashes both X and + Plymouth, forcing X to start on tty8 . [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is a MASTER bug report, i.e. not a real bug report, but a tool to help manage other bug reports. Most bug reports on i855 are probably due to the CPU/GPU incoherency problem that is now consolidated upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187 (which was split off from a bug report for i845). For now, we mark all automatically reported GPU lockups on i855 as duplicates of this unless there is a reason not to. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625787] [NEW] utsrelease.h not found during DKMS build
Public bug reported: The configuration of the fglrx package fails reproducibly on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 (with the latest updates applied), which results in a system that fails to boot the graphical environment, requiring a fresh installation because I don't know how to fix the system's state. The graphics card in question is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450. The output of the "apt-get install" command looks as follows. It has been taken from [1], which is a description of the very same bug. Unfortunately, I didn't make a copy of the output as seen on my machine. Loading new fglrx-8.723.1 DKMS files... First Installation: checking all kernels... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
Sorry, the instructions at the top of this bug were outdated and referenced an older version of the patched kernel. I fixed that now. Here's the command to install the newest kernel in my PPA: sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch1-generic If you're still on 9.04 these instructions won't work because it will be looking in the 9.04 version of the graphics-fixes repository, which is empty. You can override that by going to System -> Administration -> Software Sources and finding my PPA, then editing it and changing the distribution to 'lucid'. Then after updating the repositories again, the kernel will be available, and you can run the command to install it. Then if you upgrade to 10.04, make sure when it asks to remove obsolete/unsupported packages that it is not trying to remove that kernel. If the kernel is listed, have it skip removing the packages. You will now have 10.04 + a patched kernel, which hopefully will work right.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625797] [NEW] cursor disappears on resume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After suspending while at gdm's login screen, the mouse cursor never appears after resume. The mouse is *there* and can do things, but it's invisible - moving it over a login name (by sheer luck) will make hovertext appear, and clicking works as usual, but it's basically unusable. The cursor also disappears when suspending while logged in - but so far only if gnome's "screen is locked; enter your password to continue" screen appears just *before* suspend completes. The cursor only reappears on login, reboot, or going to to a virtual terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F6 and then switching back with Ctrl+Alt+F7. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625910] [NEW] alpha3 meerkat livecd loses mouse cursor after switching to console
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I booted the alph3 meerkat desktop livecd and got a gnome desktop; I then downloaded fbi, switched to the console, and made sure fbi worked in the console to view images (it did). When I switched back to the gnome desktop, I no longer had a mouse cursor. In the past when something like this has happened, it usually worked to logout and start a new X session. I tried that, but didn't get back my mouse cursor. Moreover, the new session was on console 8 instead of console 7 (where the original one was). Subsequent logouts and re-login got console 9 and 10!! I filed this under xorg, but it may be that there is a console-switching problem. The remnants of the old xorg consoles show the purple background, it that's a clue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet
Hi MacRules, thanks to point to xinput_calibrator .deb package (at last!). For first, you have a touch-screen from a different vendor, GeneralTouch, not eGalax, this vendor make its own controllers? perhaps take one from another vendor and remark/rename (this is correct term?) it as theirs. Anyway, try drivers from your vendor: http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/Driver.htm This: http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/gtusbdriver4ubuntuv1.1d2beta.tgz (vendor says "Applicable For 32bit FC 8/9/12, ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04/9.10" But If you want to make this to work with evdev driver, let's try this: -test the device with: xinput -test "device id" and touch the screen, you see something? (to see device id use xinput -list) -if you are using evdev driver, blacklist usbtouchscreen driver, write "blacklist usbtouchscreen" line to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf -- eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549447 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet
hi CMD, you are welcome, thanks for pointing out the PPA :)! I am on 10.04 now and already tried the vendor driver with no succes. It also did not work on 9.10. When I blacklist usbtouchscreen, there is no device loaded and nothing is recognised in Xorg. About the vendor: I do not know exactly. Unfortunately the drivers are binary and they do not work for me. I did not find a contact email adress, I think I should look harder :). I prefer evdev, but it seems hard. With usbtouchscreen driver loaded i get a proper input device, but no input if i touch the screen. This has been the problem from the beginning: no input is registered. When usbtouchscreen is loaded, input -list says: Sensing Win7-TwoFinger id=15 [slave pointer (2)] (when not loaded it is not there.) I am out of ideas, If you have any, please let me know! cmd_ <549...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote on 28 Aug 2010, 07:52 PM: Subject: [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet >Hi MacRules, thanks to point to xinput_calibrator .deb package (at >last!). > >For first, you have a touch-screen from a different vendor, GeneralTouch, >not eGalax, this vendor make its own controllers? perhaps take one from >another vendor and remark/rename (this is correct term?) it as theirs. >Anyway, try drivers from your vendor: >http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/Driver.htm >This: http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/gtusbdriver4ubuntuv1.1d2beta.tgz >(vendor says "Applicable For 32bit FC 8/9/12, ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04/9.10" > >But If you want to make this to work with evdev driver, let's try this: >-test the device with: xinput -test "device id" and touch the screen, you >see something? It would help them to know what your external card is and what driver it uses. ** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu) -- Can not increase screen resolution when connected through TV tuner card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/622347 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: When copying something the mouse lags, I've tried this using two laptops both having Ubuntu 9.10 installed and both have the same problem.
