[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-28 Thread markling
I was unable to execute these commands.

The last generated an error:

couldn't find package linux-image-2.6.34-v9patch-generic

I tried the patch after being told that it might make it possible for me
to upgrade to Ubuntu v10. I'm still unable to upgrade to Ubuntu v10:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9774440#post9774440

The first command in your list is erroneous (apt-add). I'm sure this is
plain to see for most people, but it does not fill a feeble linux user
like myself with confidence.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625703] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] White screen after login

2010-08-28 Thread YannUbuntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On Ubuntu 10.04, using Xorg-edgers PPA.

- yesterday with updated packages, my "Gnome" session was working well with
Compiz.
- today I updating my packages (including xorg-edgers's ones),
- after rebooting, my "Gnome" session leads me to a white screen where i can
see the mouse cursor, and Compiz seems to work (a Compiz workspace chooser
effect works, showing a small version of my 4 workspaces, but they are all
white)
- Ctrl-Alt-Backspace (that I had configured previously also) works and leads me
to GDM.

>From GDM I can connect without any problem to "Kubuntu", "Lubuntu" and
"Gnome failsafe" sessions.

So I guess this bug is related to a combinaison of Compiz + today's
XorgPPA update.

Please also note that for this bug report , I did "ubuntu-bug xorg" from a
"Gnome failsafe" session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532047] Re: Plymouth text-mode splash causes X to crash on first run due to shared tty7

2010-08-28 Thread Bilal Akhtar
As Scott said, we need to file a new bug about this issue. I tried the
workaround given in this bug description and it worked, which meansthat
the problem is affecting Plymouth once again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-08-28 Thread phpmonkey
Hi Martin-Éric,

I downloaded Geode 2.11.9-1 but there are dependency issues with my
current 10.04 setup (xserver-xorg-video-geode-_2.11.9-1 needs xorg-
video-abi-8.0 which needs an updated xserver-xorg-core which needs an
updated xserver-common (no worries) and keyboard-configuration (which
conflicts with installed package 'console-setup'). I should be able
to test it when I upgrade to 10.10 though? :/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625239] Re: Pressing enter key kills X

2010-08-28 Thread Bilal Akhtar
I did an experiment. I renamed the plymouth-splash.conf file in the
/etc/init folder to *.disabled and then re-started without plymouth. It
worked!

This problem is affecting plymouth and not X.

** Also affects: plymouth (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- Pressing enter key kills X
+ Pressing Enter crashes both X and plymouth in graphical mode

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts
up, if I press the enter key (occurs only with the enter key) X shuts
down and starts again in around 2 seconds. In the session of X that
comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur.
+
+ UPDATE: Problem seems to be affecting plymouth and is a lot similar to
+ bug #532047, however in this case GRAPHICAL plugin is affected. The
+ workaround on that bug works, and pressing enter crashes both X and
+ Plymouth, forcing X to start on tty8 .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544496] Re: [RS100] desktop became slow after upgrading to Lucid

2010-08-28 Thread Matej Kenda
Thomas, remote watch bug
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26599 was closed as a
duplicate of http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28771.

I updated the remote watch to reflect that. Is that OK or should the
original be left there?

Unfortunately I created an unnecessary Debian remote watch that should
be removed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-28 Thread Brian Rogers
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is a MASTER bug report, i.e. not a real bug report, but a tool to
  help manage other bug reports.

Most bug reports on i855 are probably due to the CPU/GPU incoherency
problem that is now consolidated upstream at
  http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187 (which was split off
from a bug report for i845). For now, we mark all automatically reported
GPU lockups on i855 as duplicates of this unless there is a reason not
  to.

A kernel with the proposed fix is available at https://launchpad.net
  /~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-fixes

To use this fixed kernel, run the following commands:

  sudo apt-add-repository ppa:brian-rogers/graphics-fixes
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.34-v9patch-generic
+ sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch1-generic

There is a similar master bug report for i845 at bug 541492.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet

2010-08-28 Thread MacRules
Hi all,

I am not sure if this is the proper place, but I'll just try and hope nobody
is pissed or anyone points me in the right direction.
I have a touchscreen branded GeneralTouch with id 0dfc:0001 .
It seems to get only partly loaded, because I just get no screen input.
This is my Xorg log:
(II) config/udev: Adding input device Sensing Win7-TwoFinger (/dev/input/event5)
(**) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: Applying InputClass "evdev touchscreen catchall"
(**) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: always reports core events
(**) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: Device: "/dev/input/event5"
(II) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: Found absolute axes
(II) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: Found x and y absolute axes
(II) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: Found absolute touchscreen
(II) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: Configuring as touchscreen
(**) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: YAxisMapping: buttons 4 and 5
(**) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: EmulateWheelButton: 4, EmulateWheelInertia: 10,
EmulateWheelTimeout: 200
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Sensing Win7-TwoFinger" (type:
TOUCHSCREEN)
(II) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: initialized for absolute axes.
(II) config/udev: Adding input device Sensing Win7-TwoFinger (/dev/input/mouse1)
(II) No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)

I also would like to point you all to the xinput_calibrator deb (also source en
Fedora rpm):
http://github.com/tias/xinput_calibrator/downloads

When I run that, no input is registered from touching the screen, but my
mouse clicks from external mouse are.

Does anyone know what I can do to get it working?
I was thinking about the usb quircks, but I do not know what 0040 means, so I
do not know how to get the whole string for my device.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625787] [NEW] utsrelease.h not found during DKMS build

2010-08-28 Thread Severin Heiniger
Public bug reported:

The configuration of the fglrx package fails reproducibly on Ubuntu
10.04 and 10.10 (with the latest updates applied), which results in a
system that fails to boot the graphical environment, requiring a fresh
installation because I don't know how to fix the system's state. The
graphics card in question is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450.

The output of the "apt-get install" command looks as follows. It has
been taken from [1], which is a description of the very same bug.
Unfortunately, I didn't make a copy of the output as seen on my machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2010-08-28 Thread Brian Rogers
Sorry, the instructions at the top of this bug were outdated and
referenced an older version of the patched kernel. I fixed that now.
Here's the command to install the newest kernel in my PPA:

sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.35-v9patch1-generic

If you're still on 9.04 these instructions won't work because it will be
looking in the 9.04 version of the graphics-fixes repository, which is
empty. You can override that by going to System -> Administration ->
Software Sources and finding my PPA, then editing it and changing the
distribution to 'lucid'. Then after updating the repositories again, the
kernel will be available, and you can run the command to install it.

Then if you upgrade to 10.04, make sure when it asks to remove
obsolete/unsupported packages that it is not trying to remove that
kernel. If the kernel is listed, have it skip removing the packages. You
will now have 10.04 + a patched kernel, which hopefully will work right.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625795] [NEW] X starts but no screen is shown / no cursor

2010-08-28 Thread Jochen Heuer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Running Ubuntu 9.10 everything worked without problem. After upgrading
to Ubuntu 10.04 I don't see the splash screen and X does not display
*anything*. When I log in from a remote system I see that X is running.

But there is nothing displayed. The second monitor (dvi) is in dpms off
state while the first monitor (analog) is black but not in dpms off.

I am running a Radeon 5750.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625797] [NEW] cursor disappears on resume

2010-08-28 Thread dn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After suspending while at gdm's login screen, the mouse cursor never
appears after resume.

The mouse is *there* and can do things, but it's invisible - moving it
over a login name (by sheer luck) will make hovertext appear, and
clicking works as usual, but it's basically unusable.

The cursor also disappears when suspending while logged in - but so far
only if gnome's "screen is locked; enter your password to continue"
screen appears just *before* suspend completes.

The cursor only reappears on login, reboot, or going to to a virtual
terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F6 and then switching back with Ctrl+Alt+F7.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

2010-08-28 Thread DarkNova
I am definitely not having this happen by pressing shift-numlock, but I
connect to this computer (Ubuntu 10.04) with VNC (Remote Desktop) every
day, so it seems likely that is triggering it somehow. Comment #52
contains a workaround, but that definitely isn't a bug fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625910] [NEW] alpha3 meerkat livecd loses mouse cursor after switching to console

2010-08-28 Thread Kalman Reti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I booted the alph3 meerkat desktop livecd and got a gnome desktop; I
then downloaded fbi, switched to the console, and made sure fbi worked
in the console to view images (it did). When I switched back to the
gnome desktop, I no longer had a mouse cursor. In the past when
something like this has happened, it usually worked to logout and start
a new X session. I tried that, but didn't get back my mouse cursor.
Moreover, the new session was on console 8 instead of console 7 (where
the original one was). Subsequent logouts and re-login got console 9
and 10!!

I filed this under xorg, but it may be that there is a console-switching
problem.

The remnants of the old xorg consoles show the purple background, it
that's a clue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625156] Re: Bug touchpad ALPS sur HP DM1-1110ef

2010-08-28 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet

2010-08-28 Thread cmd_
Hi MacRules, thanks to point to xinput_calibrator .deb package (at
last!).

For first, you have a touch-screen from a different vendor, GeneralTouch, not
eGalax, this vendor make its own controllers? perhaps take one from another
vendor and remark/rename (this is correct term?) it as theirs. Anyway, try
drivers from your vendor: http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/Driver.htm
This: http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/gtusbdriver4ubuntuv1.1d2beta.tgz (vendor
says "Applicable For 32bit FC 8/9/12, ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04/9.10"

But If you want to make this to work with evdev driver, let's try this:
-test the device with: xinput -test "device id" and touch the screen, you see
something? (to see device id use xinput -list)
-if you are using evdev driver, blacklist usbtouchscreen driver, write
"blacklist usbtouchscreen" line to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

but when logging off the screen turns black and the computer does not
react to input.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet

2010-08-28 Thread MacRules
hi CMD,

you are welcome, thanks for pointing out the PPA :)!

I am on 10.04 now and already tried the vendor driver with no succes.
It also did not work on 9.10.

When I blacklist usbtouchscreen, there is no device loaded and nothing is
recognised in Xorg.

About the vendor: I do not know exactly. Unfortunately the drivers are
binary and they do not work for me.
I did not find a contact email adress, I think I should look harder :).

I prefer evdev, but it seems hard.

With usbtouchscreen driver loaded i get a proper input device, but no input
if i touch the screen.
This has been the problem from the beginning: no input is registered.

When usbtouchscreen is loaded, input -list says:
Sensing Win7-TwoFinger id=15 [slave pointer (2)]
(when not loaded it is not there.)

I am out of ideas, If you have any, please let me know!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 462304] [NEW] Touchpad/mouse jumps, buttons freeze

2010-08-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[Previously question #83749; opened 9/24/09]

Dell Latitude D600
Ubuntu 9.04
Linux 2.6.18-15-generic
xserver-xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu18
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.6.0-0ubuntu14
Gnome 2.26.1

PROBLEM: When I use various single applications, the mouse (touchpad) on
occasion jumps to a seemingly random location on the screen; usually happens
only if I am moving the mouse. But the killer is that sometimes the one of the
mouse buttons stop responding -- requiring me to reboot the system at least a
few times each day; sometimes it affects Gnome and/or an application (ie can
use scroll bar, but not Browser: File/Edit/View etc; or can't click Gnome:
Applications/Places/System).

A search for mouse/touchpad from the /var/log/messages.0 file yields:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 622347] [NEW] Can not increase screen resolution when connected through TV tuner card

2010-08-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 in my PC. Now I connected LCD monitor through
LCD TV BOX (External Tuner Card) and hence I can not increase screen
resolution. I can only select only 800x600 and 640x480.

The out of 'xrandr' is

Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   800x60060.0*56.0
   640x48060.0

When I connect LCD monitor with out Tuner card there is no problem. Then
out of 'xrandr' is

Screen 0: minimum 640 x 400, current 1360 x 768, maximum 1360 x 768
default connected 1360x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1360x768 60.0*
   1280x768 60.0
   1024x768 75.0 60.0 70.0
   832x62475.0
   800x60075.0 60.0 72.0 56.0
   640x48075.0 60.0 73.0
   720x40070.0

Please help me to solve this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 622347] Re: Can not increase screen resolution when connected through TV tuner card

2010-08-28 Thread Jonathan Wiltshire
Thanks for your report. The behaviour is managed by the X server, so
reassigning this bug to there.

It would help them to know what your external card is and what driver it
uses.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 503041] [NEW] Mouse lags while copying highlighted text.

2010-08-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When copying something the mouse lags, I've tried this using two laptops
both having Ubuntu 9.10 installed and both have the same problem. For an
example highlight some text using Firefox or X-chat, keep moving the
mouse slowly and hit ctrl+c (To copy the highlighted text) the mouse
will lag for a second and jump to the position you're moving the mouse
at. This bug didn't exist in 9.04 using both laptops.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Status: Confirmed

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 503041] Re: Mouse lags while copying highlighted text.

2010-08-28 Thread Mohamed Amine IL Idrissi
Confirming this on 10.10. However, it seems there is a bigger problem.
Just moving the mouse and clicking on any keys *will* lag the cursor,
even if you didn't highlight the text.

** Package changed: ubuntu => xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- Mouse lags while copying highlighted text.
+ Mouse lags while moving it and clicking any keys

** Description changed:

- When copying something the mouse lags, I've tried this using two laptops
- both having Ubuntu 9.10 installed and both have the same problem. For an
- example highlight some text using Firefox or X-chat, keep moving the
- mouse slowly and hit ctrl+c (To copy the highlighted text) the mouse
- will lag for a second and jump to the position you're moving the mouse
- at. This bug didn't exist in 9.04 using both laptops.
+ When moving the mouse, if you click any keyboard keys, the mouse will
+ lag. This was observed in 10.10.
