[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855GM] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
Thank you for filing a 855GM freeze bug report with Lucid. I have missed that. We have several for Karmic(bug 378147, bug 423663, bug 447892, bug 477256, bug 477972, bug 484412, and bug 496187), but have missed Lucid testing. I would like to gather some logs and additional information from you and then we can send it upstream. Hopefully, a bug report with more recent software will receive more attention upstream. It would be nice if you could install Lucid on a partition, since that will allow you to test different kernels. The other tests should be doable with a USB stick. Test 1: Install the packages from the xorg-edgers PPA [1]. There are instructions for how to do it with a USB-stick. Get a batchbuffer dump according to the instructions on [2] (use the DebugFlushCaches option described there). In order to do all this you will probably need boot the USB in safe mode, then choose netroot (have ethernet network, not wireless), install openssh-server so that you can ssh in, make the xorg.conf with DebugFlushCaches option, install xorg-egers using the script, and then finally start gdm with `start gdm`. Then make org freeze and you can get the batchbuffer dump. While you are logged in you can also do a `apport-collect 511001` in order to upload log files to this bug report. If installing xorg-edgers above stops the freezing, we will try and identify the fix and get it into Lucid. Test 2 (requires install): In addition to xorg-edgers, try the two mainline kernels [3,4] 2.6.33-rc4 and the newest one in the drm-intel- next folder. Report if this freezes or not. It is possible that another batchbuffer dump is useful for these cases. Test 3 (requires install): Test the kernels with 599 and 600 from [5] and if they boot with Lucid, check if 600 freezes and 599 does not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500999] Re: [i965gme] Freezes when attempting to switch to projector (or just detect them)
That looks like a much more likely commit to fix this. Did you double- check by testing the last freezing (i.e. "good") and first non-freezing (i.e. "bad") kernel again? It seems that the commit is not as atomic as it maybe should have been, since it fixes a bug and changes the behaviour. I will leave it up to the Ubuntu developers to assess whether the commit can be appled as a whole or needs to be rewritten. Anyway, they should now have all the information they need in order to fix this. Thank you for excellent troubleshooting! ** Tags added: cherry-pick ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- [i965gme] Freezes when attempting to switch to projector (or just detect them) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 509468] Re: [i945gm] x server crashes at random times (karmic)
>> We will get fewer bug reports, those that we get will be of higher quality, >> and we will be able to handle a greater >> fraction than what we do today? ;-) I understand those goals. I see the current process as sacrificing those goals in favor of generating some good looking (but misleading) statistics about the quality of the code that gets into Ubuntu. If Ubuntu wants fewer bug reports that they don't have the manpower to take a serious look at, they should communicate better about what kinds of reports will get a serious look, and what won't, at a point in the process before someone wastes their time generating a report that is doomed to be ignored. And Ubuntu would generate less ill-will if they had a bug status that says "even if this is a real bug, we will never have time to fix it in this release anyway" and used it when appropriate instead of stringing the user along asking for ever more information that will never be used. I'm not whining about not getting the support I'm not paying for. I'm whining about being lied to. -- [i945gm] x server crashes at random times (karmic) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509468 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)
Adam Jackson has a related kernel commit in 2.6.33-rc5: http://git.kernel.org/linus/30a589fde0162aa4dac7c69803aeee8fbe8d1b82 commit 30a589fde0162aa4dac7c69803aeee8fbe8d1b82 Author: Adam Jackson Date: Tue Jan 5 17:56:04 2010 -0800 Input: evdev - be less aggressive about sending SIGIO notifies When using realtime signals, we'll enqueue one signal for every event. This is unfortunate, because (for example) keyboard presses are three events: key, msc scancode, and syn. They'll be enqueued fast enough in kernel space that all three events will be ready to read by the time userspace runs, so the first invocation of the signal handler will read all three events, but then the second two invocations still have to run to do no work. Instead, only send the SIGIO notification on syn events. This is a slight abuse of SIGIO semantics, in principle it ought to fire as soon as any events are readable. But it matches evdev semantics, which is more important since SIGIO is rather vaguely defined to begin with. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver
When I try to boot with the driver I just created, the system hangs after the mouse cursor first appears, in a manner similar to that described in Bug #508456: At the point at which the system freezes, the initial rotating cursor has appeared, and then has just turned into a pointer. This is slightly different from Bug #508456, in which it freezes about 2 seconds after the rotating cursor appears. Also, that problem hasn't occurred for the standard build of the system for about a week. So this may be a slightly different problem. -- [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 109934] Re: Black and white S-video output only on PAL TVs with intel video driver
Hallo, there are two problems that effects me. The first probelm is, that the connector is a 7 pin output. It provides Svideo as well as a composite signal! With upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 the signal at the compsite pins disapear and never went back! Only the Svideo variant is remaining. I solved the problem by a special connector to compose the Svideo signal in a compsite signal (with colour). The second problem is, that my TV prefers a PAL-signal. But changing the signal from ntsc to PAL is ignored! I get the error code I mentioned above. I am able to successfully run a live CD of Hardy Heron 8.10 on my Desktop and also run 9.10 Ubuntu on my hard drive updated from the previous version. Video is a GeForce 6600 GT. With 9.10 live CD I'm stuck as I cannot enter any data on a flashing screen's command line. As suggested above, next I'm going to see what happens if I turn off my monitor when it's flashing and wait a while before turning it back on to see if things have settled. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver
I reinstalled the current binary driver, and now the system hangs before showing a cursor at all - I just get a blank screen. However, in recovery mode, I can always start up fine, executing this script after logging in as root: #!/bin/sh echo start some services like the ssh daemon and apache service ssh start service apache2 start echo start X service gdm start I always start the ssh daemon - in case the screen doesn't work, I can then ssh in over my LAN. It would be very nice if Ubuntu always gave the option of installing the ssh daemon in an installation - the FreeBSD installer has a checkbox for doing that - it's very useful when things go wrong! -- [K8M800] Screen origin shifted to center, screen wraps, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid with openchrome driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
