[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406460] Re: [i845] xorg hang on video driver 2.8.0
I set up a PPA for Karmic that will roll libdrm and xserver-xorg-video-intel back to the Jaunty versions: https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/graphics-testing I haven't tested this yet, so be prepared to undo it from the command line if it breaks X. If this old userspace stuff works fine in the new kernel, it may not be the kernel's fault at all. In that case, I'll step my PPA forward one version at a time and we can find out when the problem first appeared. -- [i845] xorg hang on video driver 2.8.0 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406460 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480825] Re: external monitor resolution 800x600
It seems that the reason the 1024x768 mode is not available is that there is something wrong with the EDID information. From XorgLog.txt: (II) intel(0): Not using mode "1024x768" (bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan) There have been a lot of resolution quirks in newer kernels. It is possible that this has already be fixed in Lucid. Could you give Lucid a try? You can download a LiveCD daily image from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ and the latest milestone from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/ . You may also test the latest kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ (see also https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds). If this has been fixed upstream at all, it should work with the latest drm-intel-next kernel. ** Summary changed: - external monitor resolution 800x600 + [i915gm] max external monitor resolution 800x600 instead of 1024x768 -- [i915gm] max external monitor resolution 800x600 instead of 1024x768 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480825 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501942] [NEW] thinkpad t43 lower touchpad buttons stopped working karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-mouse xserver-xorg-input-mouse latest as of Dec 31, 2009 I am taking a stab at which package might be causing the issue. Forum searches suggest Gnome and KDE issues in Karmic. My observed issue: Thinkpad has two sets of trackpad buttons, one above and one below. Both used to work. Lower set does not usually work anymore; however, out of wake from suspend, the left lower one will. At the same time this issue was observed, there seems to be a conflict with an inserted usb mouse where both the mouse and keyboard clicks fail to respond, although cursor can be moved. Two actions will get response back: plug in a usb mouse or, of mouse is plugged in, unplug and replug it. Also, holding the power button, assuming this action is set in power management to "prompt logout dialog" will allow the desktop to log out, then back in and function is restored to the usb mouse and keyboard (and touchpad except for of course the lower mouse buttons). Disabling the trackpad in gsynaptic seems to solve the issue, at least within the past 12 hours. Unfortunately, a USB mouse must be available and this isn't really a workaround. These issues do not happen in an earlier version of a bootable Karmic iso I have on USB stick, Knoppix 6.02, or in Windows XP, so this is not a "broken hardware" issue. If I can provide some further detail from a log file, please request it. I am not sure where to look since this is a intermittent issue. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-mouse (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: keyboard lock-up lockup trackpad -- thinkpad t43 lower touchpad buttons stopped working karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 406460] Re: [i845] xorg hang on video driver 2.8.0
Brian, thanks, I gave it a try, but this is lucid not karmic. I didn't know what to do with that, so I tried it anyway. The xserver-xorg-video-intel got "kept back" so it booted to black screen. Back to hand keying in xorg.conf with driver "vesa". [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.
what actually happens is this ( its reproducible on my ubuntu) when somebody presses right click button ubuntu interpreted that as a right click and upon releasing it again another right click command is issued. in windows or opensuse this is not the case. in those os ,right click command is issued at the release of button. case study 1-minimize all windows to get to desktop window. 2-press right click (without releasing it) 3-select any of menu options that appears. 4 release right click button. in windows my mouse does not show right click menu or issue action unless i release the right click button.i guess it has to do with windows having right click drag and ubuntu not having it.i mean in windows u can drag a file by press and holding right button of mouse but not in ubuntu. -- Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 501984] [NEW] nvidia proprietary driver glx extension fails to load karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-185 A fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 followed by installing the nvidia proprietary nvidia-glx-185 extension fails to activate GLX This is a combination of the non-proprietary driver still being installed (xserver-xorg-video-nv) and no xorg.conf created (a new feature in Karmic apparently). Whatever logic is used to determine (most likely alphabetic or possibly directory) which driver loads first in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers loads the nv_drv.so driver first - this is not compatible with the nvidia-glx extension - so the GLX extension is just dropped with only an error in Xorg.0.log This causes applications that need GLX to fail - which is where you first discover the problem Running nvidia-xconfig creates an xorg.conf which fixes the problem (which I needed because I was doing the setup remotely via ssh) by defining the driver explicitly in the Device Section This may be related to a number of issues reported with nvidia drivers and 9.10 - also the issue of dpkg-reconfigure doing nothing useful anymore which googling around my issue came up a number of times - This was confusing because other upgrades to Karmic I did had no such problem - because an existing xorg.conf is retained across the upgrade - it is not deleted Auto-loading Xorg modules needs to really figure out what to do about multiple modules providing the same functionality (is there a file in the Xorg system which controls which modules to load like modprobe for the kernel?) otherwise to use the nvidia binary drivers in Karmic requires an xorg.conf or is using xorg.conf still the approved solution to choosing between drivers providing the same functionality Im logging this in the hope it may help other people - I guess the other solution is for one of the nvidia proprietary packages to run nvidia-xconfig post-installation ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- nvidia proprietary driver glx extension fails to load karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495334] Re: W500 w/ switchable graphics doesn't work with fglrx
Hi Shaya, I've had it work on a W500 a while ago, and I can't fully remember the details - but I think the trick I had to use was to go into the BIOS and explicitly set it to only use the ATI and not allow switching. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495334] Re: W500 w/ switchable graphics doesn't work with fglrx
right, I figured that out. However, the ati driver isn't well supported with this laptop it seems (for instance, whatever flash does to go full screen it's well supported, so if you full screen in hulu, it's choppy, but if you drag the pop out window so its full screen, it works fine), so sticking with intel for now. only negative is that intel doesn't seem to be able to use the dvi on the dock -- W500 w/ switchable graphics doesn't work with fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491588] Re: System completely freezes with Visual Effects (normal) is turned on
Hi Marco, According to the thread in this link, this bug was reintroduced to newer xserver versions. I guess, I should sign up for this bug and tell the developers about your problem. Good luck! I am not an expert either though. I should tell you, if you get an ATI- based machine you should become one :) Other types of architectures can make you think sometimes too. However, most of the issues (on nVidia and Intel) make sense and get resolved pretty quickly. The majority of troubles I and my friends are having due to ATI bad drivers and/or secrecy are not usually fixed. Instead, I keep getting new and fresh bugs. -- System completely freezes with Visual Effects (normal) is turned on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491588 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

They can be downloaded from http://www.kvante.info/845Gfreeze/ . There is some more detailed information in the comments to bug 456902. If this bug is the same as bug 456902, the kernels with freezetest1 and freezetest8 should not cause the freeze, while the one with freezetest9 should cause a freeze. If this is not the case for you, we know that your bug is different from bug 456902 and we will have to do some additional tests. I originally compiled the kernels on Jaunty, but tests by others seems to indicate that the tests can also be done in Karmic or Lucid. Mine is not ADM64.
