Lucid dead black screen again today! On one or another of my test pc's with intel and ati video graphics I get black screen for weeks on Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic, now Lucid.
Only way I got running today was to boot in recovery and manually key in: nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "vesa" EndSection which at least functions. In previous Ubuntu's there was a "safe" mode, or at least a scaffold xorg.conf to start with.
