[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment

2009-10-10 Thread Thomas Runge
I don't think Claus' problem is clearly related to this one, as I am
definitely experiencing this problem with the trackpoint, only. It does
not seem to be related to the touchpad or external mouse.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment

2009-10-10 Thread Thomas Runge
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

Since upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic, I'm experiencing a strange mouse
behaviour. Mouse clicks are not always interpreted correctly. Most of the time,
clicking once on application icons, links etc. seems to be interpreted as
holding the left mouse button down to draw the icon link etc. to a new
location. Same behaviour with window sliders. Clicking once, the mouse often
seems to interprete one single click as "click and hold". As a consequence, the
slider is moved on moving the mouse.
To release the mouse from "click and hold" a right mouse click seems to help.
+ Often, it is also that trying to close an application highlights the "x"
button on the title bar, but the click is not recognized.

- Sometimes (about 50% of the time), the mouse seems to be working
- normally. However, working with this malfunction is very annoying.
+ Sometimes (about 50% of the time), the mouse seems to be working normally.
However, working with this malfunction is very annoying.
+ This behaviour is related to the trackpoint, only! Mousepad as well as
external mouse are behaving as expected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor

2009-10-10 Thread Mike L. Ramiro
I can confirm this behavior running on an Aspire One (Intel Corporation
Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller) with xserver-xorg-
video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu1 and compiz 1:0.8.3+git20091005-0ubuntu5.

As mentioned above, disabling compiz allows me to get into the screen
configuration dialog, though the "detect monitors" button doesn't seem
to work after this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447840] [NEW] Window Manager Session Crashes After recent karmic update (presume this is due to picking up Mesa 7.6)

2009-10-10 Thread Tom Pringle
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I recently updated my 2 PCs running Karmic. Both machines use the same video
card radeon X1900. Both machines started crashing X back to the login screen.
On one machine I can no longer log in. I was able to stabilize the second
machine by disabling desktop effects. This did n't seem to help the first
machine.

How can I back out the Mesa 7.6 changes to know whether that change is
the source of the regression?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] [NEW] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855

2009-10-10 Thread kalessin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Summary: X server freezes shortly after startup. The problem is similar
to several problems already reported with the intel driver, but opening
a separate bug report (for the time being) since none of the existing
entries quite matches my configuration. Feel free to mark it as
duplicate if you think it is.

System: Kubuntu 'Karmic', updated yesterday (2009-10-09). Buffer dump is
attached.

Description: The X server locks up shortly after it is started, no
matter what I do. Usually this happens when the login procedure is just
about finished, but I have also seen it after KDM waiting for some time
for the login credentials. Mouse pointer remains functional, apart from
that complete lock (esp. keyboard). Magic sys'req key still works, but
when I try SReq-(R,E,I), KDM seems to try to restart X, resulting in a
*really* complete lockup (even my ssh diagnostics session dies).

Notes: I had the same problem with Jaunty, but there it helped forcing
the driver to use XAA instead of EXA. The newer driver does not support
that ('Option "AccelMethod" is not used'), and cannot be forced to
disable acceleration either ('Option "NoAccel" is not used'). And thanks
to the new near-magic auto detection scheme, it is not even trivial to
fall back to the VESA driver... so Karmic is completely and utterly non-
usable on that machine.

Oh, forgot to mention: disabling Compiz does not work either (not
surprising since this does not seem to be related to 3D issues but
rather 2D acceleration).

too slow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447903] [NEW] error in detecting screen resolution on external monitor

2009-10-10 Thread Gharrrrr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

i've never had a linux distro properly detect my 40" lcd monitor that my
lappy plugs into (w/VGA, intel gma). And the app test revealed that
there was "This display is using ERROR: xrandr -q should return a single
line with '*' resolution." i don't know why but it always thinks its
connected to a 72" display and the resolution is just ok, not great
considering it's a 40" HD lcd.

2009-10-10 Thread Mathias Weyland
Jammy,

I'm attaching a dump of the DSDT on my EliteBook 8530p. On a side note,
I'm interested in what you will do to check whether a BIOS bug may be
responsible for the issue. Can you maybe outline your procedure?

As for the "Fan aways ON" setting, I keep that one disabled anyway.

Regards and thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447912] [NEW] Wrong keyboard layout display for Austria

2009-10-10 Thread Michael Färber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

Austrians and Germans have the same keyboards, however, you can only
select "Germany" as keyboard layout setting. This doesn't bother me
much, but in the new gdm it displays "Germany" as keyboard layout every
time I boot the system. It's like displaying "Keyboard layout: US" to
somebody from Great Britain all the time.

Suggestion: Rename those keyboard layouts from "Germany*" to "German*"
to have a more neutral effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447181] Re: Video driver error: No kernel modesetting driver detected

2009-10-10 Thread Albert Damen
It seems you are all using the intel driver from the xorg-edgers ppa.

In this driver support for user mode setting has been dropped. This
means you now have to use a kernel with modesetting (KMS) enabled. The
easiest way to do this is to install the kernel from the same ppa and
reboot using that kernel.

Please read the instructions from the ppa page:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447427] Re: [i945] No screens found / none have usable configuration on Intel 945GM

2009-10-10 Thread Tormod Volden
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 447181 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447181

By the way, do not install the kernel from the PPA, but use the latest
Karmic kernel for best results.

Jon, you don't "upgrade" the kernel, you can install the new one next to
the old one and choose between them at boot. There is very small chances
of breaking anything.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447181] Re: Video driver error: No kernel modesetting driver detected

2009-10-10 Thread Tormod Volden
I recommend installing a Karmic kernel (the one in the PPA is there just
for build purposes).

The warning "This is not a genuine Ubuntu package" is because the PPA
packages are not official Ubuntu packages and are not officially
supported. I think this is pretty clear from the PPA page. If you have
enabled the PPA without reading the PPA page you should complain to the
one who instructed you to add the PPA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 435745] [NEW] mtrr support is broken in Jaunty

2009-10-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When upgrading from Interpid to Jaunty I discovered that graphics performance
had degraded.
Flash and movie playing performance was very poor even with the xv output
driver.

when looking at the /proc/mtrr I noticed that there was no line listed
for my Nvidia Geforce FX5200 card as there was in Interpid.

looking at /var/log/debug in Jaunty it reads:
Sep 23 20:02:56 ubuntu kernel: [ 101.521701] mtrr: no MTRR for e800,800
found

I have tried both with 2.6.27-7 and 2.6.28-15 kernels on Jaunty and I'm
currently using 2.6.27-14 on Interpid so this seems to be more of an X
server problem than kernel bug. (Shouldn't the X server set the mtrr
range?). Switching from the nv driver to the proprietary Nvidia driver
on Interpid removes the mtrr entry as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373260] Re: ~/.Xmodmap gets loaded only by gdm (and not by kdm or startx)

2009-10-10 Thread Daniel Hahler
It should be sourced in Kubuntu via /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80kubuntu-
xmodmap (package kubuntu-default-settings), similar to
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/80ubuntu-xmodmap..

wait.. /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80ubuntu-xmodmap is from kdebase-bin..

And, both files appear to get not shipped at all anymore.. they are only
mentioned in the debian/changelog files of kubuntu-default-settings and
kdebase-bin.

This should get fixed.. either by re-adding them, or removing them as
obsolete conffiles (if another method should get used to source
~/.Xmodmap).

2009-10-10 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi duvel123,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this
issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

trying it in Kubuntu. The error:

Check /var/lib/dkms/nvidia/185.18.36/build/ for more information.

Any ideas?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 357284] Re: [i945GM] Kubuntu: Screen stays black on logout (UXA bug)

2009-10-10 Thread Pascal R.
In Kubuntu Karmic Beta, UXA is enabled by default, right? (No xorg.conf, I am
slightly confused).
But there are these four lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

(II) UXA(0): Driver registered support for the following operations:
(II) solid
(II) copy
(II) composite (RENDER acceleration)

Bug changed a bit since my comment #10 on the same hardware (ThinkPad T61 with
Intel 965GM Chipset). In Kubuntu Karmic Beta, I can see a mouse pointer on a
black screen after logging out. This is new. The mouse pointer changes to an
input cursor on some areas on the screen. Could be that these are the areas for
username and password.
Also new: It is possible to restart the XServer with Alt+Print+K. After that
everything is ok.
Third new thing: Switching user works without problems now.
