[Bug 380293] Re: Ienovo X200 power consumption - power top

2009-05-26 Thread vok
hi,

I have noticed different power consumptions on different X200s laptops!!

My original X200s, NS45HMD, uses approx 1.5W less than my temporary
replacement machine, which is a X200s, Type 7470-A98.

I am attaching my output for
uname -a
powertop -d
lspci -vvv

The output is based on the original ubuntu 9.04 system without any
additional packages but with all available and official updates.

As soon as I have my original machine back, I will also post output for
that one.

[Bug 200173] Re: Stellarium crashes at start up: Segmentation fault

2008-06-21 Thread vok
Having never heard of GART or GART memory the suggestion in the error message
did not mean a lot to me, however with a little research I found an option in
the file:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Within the "Device" section of the file I added the line:
Option "GARTSize" "64"

Re-booted and Stellarium now works OK.

My PC has 4 GBytes RAM and an ATI X300 video card

I hope this helps.

[Bug 115616] Re: Device-mapper errors: dm-linear, lookup failed

2007-10-10 Thread vok
I did the on-line upgrade from Feisty to a Gutsy beta on an IBM T30
Laptop that I only use for web browsing. It displayed this problem
straight away, very high CPU utilisation.

The resource tab of the System Monitor program charts CPU utilisation
and made it obvious that CPU was being wasted somewhere but the process
tab did not give any clue where. None of the displayed processes showed
a high utilisation. COULD THIS BE ANOTHER BUG ?

I needed to use the "top" command to find the culprit udevd using 87%
CPU.

The problem went away after doing:
sudo aptitude remove evms
and re-booting the PC.

Like Pat above, I have never heard of EVMS before so I assume it is a
standard part of Gutsy. Having read the evms web site I am a little
concerned that I no longer have it and I certainly have no plans to do
the same upgrade on my desk top machine until I read encouraging noises
about this bug.

[Bug 115616] Re: Device-mapper errors: dm-linear, lookup failed

2007-10-11 Thread vok
I wrote earlier that I suffered this bug when updating an IBM T30 laptop
from Feisty to Gutsy. What I omitted to say was that this laptop had
undergone a number of online updates prior to this one. I do not
remember which version I started with but it has probably only had on-
line updates since 6.06 or before.

[Bug 116990] Re: Rhythmbox sound problems (clicking/snapping/crackling) when not using crossfading backend

2007-10-20 Thread vok
I have just upgraded my AMD 64 box from Feisty to Gutsy and I now get
poor quality sound when playing ogg and mp3 using either Rythmbox,
Amarok or Totem Movie Player.

In Rythmbox I tried:
Edit ->Preferences -> Playback -> Player Backend
Check: Use Crossfading backend
Crossfade Duration =2.1 seconds
Quit and restart Rythmbox

It made no difference, the sound is very poor

[Bug 115616] Re: Device-mapper errors: dm-linear, lookup failed

2007-10-21 Thread vok
So to re-cap again. I believe the situation is:

If you do the upgrade via to Gutsy the GUI tool System -> Administration
-> Update Manager all is well.

If you do the upgrade using apt-get this will not remove evms for you
and you are likely to be in trouble, You have to remove evms yourself.

sudo aptitude remove evms
and re-boo the PC.

But don't listen to me, read it from someone who understands this stuff.

[Bug 145696] Re: firefox and xgl cause 100% CPU

2007-11-12 Thread vok
I have an AMD 64 x2 and an ATI Radeon X300. Ubuntu 7.10 with all the
updates as and when they appear.

I had the desktop effects enabled and working nicely but today, the
desktop effects disabled themselves and I got the problem with Xgl using
100% CPU whilst using Firefox, particularly when scrolling.

Desktop effects refused to re-enable.

I disabled the restricted ATI driver and re-booted, then re-enabled the
restricted ATI driver and re-booted again. I was then able to re-enable
the desktop effects and the Firefox / Xgl problem was cured.

and the undervolting settings were not altered.
