[Bug 1453390] [NEW] Touchpad not detected
Public bug reported: I have an ASUS ZenBook UX301L - trying to use the touchpad that is installed with the laptop. It used to work, but I think when I upgrade to 15.04, or maybe before that is when the touchpad stopped working. It was around the time that I was trying to get my touchscreen to work in chrome... which ended up happening, but I guess I can only have one device that works in chrome. haha External mice work fine - as you'll see in my attached files, there is a Logitech USB receiver - that's currently the only way I can click things without the touch screen. The trackpad doesn't show up in cat /proc/bus/input/devices and I can't tell if it shows up in dmesg or not. uname -a Linux Calypso 3.19.0-16-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 30 16:09:58 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 15.04 Release:15.04 ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "contains four outputs: dmesg, /proc/bus/input/devices, and two of the commands at the reporting guidelines. [Bug 1453390] Re: Touchpad not detected
I upgraded my BIOS to 209 - still no dice - why would upgrading BIOS help the trackpad though? The trackpad works in windows. Anywho, as for 'what happened' - I really can't say - as much as I'd love to. [Bug 1804285] [NEW] hplip Setting up python3 Errno2
Public bug reported: This is Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (bionic beaver) mark@Lexington:~$ apt-cache policy hplip hplip: Installed: 3.17.10+repack0-5 Candidate: 3.17.10+repack0-5 Version table: *** 3.17.10+repack0-5 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status The extensive terminal output, posted below, can also be viewed here: https://pastebin.com/Zrv5AAZL After I could not repair the hplip causing the printer/scanner dialogue windows to take 5 minutes to come onscreen, I reinstalled Ubuntu 18.04. After running all updates on the OS, I reinstalled hplip (or so I thought). The hplip did install, the dialogue windows come onscreen almost instantly. There is no HP icon in the system tray and hplip throws an error/warning about this with each reboot. Today, I tried running: sudo apt-get update / upgrade. I was offered a list of upgradeable packages and said Yes to the upgrade. After running the terminal threw a long list of error messages all or almost all related to the hplip, specifically mutter, python3. Python repeatedly reports Errno2. [Bug 1548947] Re: Canon printer/scanner driver fails
Not only is /var/tmp the directory for that the Canon created "dirvers" fills with the cnij files, I now see folders named, in part, "systemd- private-" (The quotation marks are mine, they don't appear in the ls of /var/tmp.) I had posted to the Canon Printer Forum about this and had no response as to whether I could "sudo rm -r systemd-private*" I went ahead and removed them and have seen no ill effects from printing, faxing, scanning or copying documents, other than the Canon created software adding directories and files unnecessarily. [Bug 1714659] Re: HPLIP is not compatible with modern GNOME (No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting.)
I think that is error is now causing very high CPU usage. Typically my CPU load averages are under 1. They usually range like thus: .5 to .8 for all time frames (1 min, 5 min, 15 min). Currently my avgs. are 3.00 to 4.00. [Bug 1877135] Re: Failed to start Virtual filesystem service - Apple File Conduit monitor [libusbmuxd.so.4 not found]
I can confirm this bug on my system as well. Upgraded from 18.04LTS to 20.04LTS. I have the same lsb_release -d and apt-cache policy gvfs output as well. I worked around this issue by creating a symlink in /usr/lib/x86_64 -linux-gnu from libusbmuxd.so.6.0.0 to libusbmuxd.so.4 I don't know if this breaks anything, but this does seem to alleviate the slow launch of certain Gnome apps that seem to rely on gvfs, along with my slow login time that I was experiencing. Nautilus, gedit, file dialogs, screenshot, etc., that took ~20-30 seconds to load now load instantly, and I do not get org.gtk.vfs.AfcVolumeMonitor timeout errors I was seeing either. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877135 Title: Failed to start Virtual filesystem service - Apple File Conduit monitor [libusbmuxd.so.4 not found] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1877135/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can also confirm that symlinking libusbmuxd.so.6.0.0 to libusbmuxd.so.4 appears to allow the upower service to start as well. systemctl now shows the service started successfully and is running, and I am able to see power / battery status in Gnome again.

Hi. Everything freezes. The clock on my screen shows the seconds. which has also frozen. Pressing ctrl-alt-f2 etc, to get to a login prompt doesn't work. Only a hard reset can clear it. [Bug 699802] Re: error:: no video mode activated
This flaw (or bug) has caused 2 different problems. It has prevented the desktop (/home/mark/Desktop) from being stable. At boot time (cold or warm) the objects on the /Desktop load, but after a few seconds vanish. The file manager behaves much the same way. When called or invoked the "Folder" icon on my left panel opens for a few seconds, then closes without being commanded to do so. At no time during the on-time for the computer can the file manager (Nautilus?) operate properly. Also, trying to fix this and being mislead by those with Unity or Compiz problem, I have reset my left panel and lost a number of application. A few days later, I saw, at boot time, one icon which had the look or image of the "i'm still loading" the exact moment went by so swiftly I don't know for certain what it is. But, I decided to delete it. It had a filename extension of .jp2. Ubuntu's various apps cannot read a .jp2. After deleting this file and re-booting, I have the formerly lost desktop objects returned to their places on the /Desktop. For example. *.txt, .jpg, .pdf, user created directories "Trusty Tahr", desktop configuration file (application/x-desktop), .mp3 and such. And the file manager is working. Some of the processes I did are here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/7295230/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/699802 Title: error:: no video mode activated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/699802/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1589015] [NEW] Printer bug adds code into /var/tmp endlessly
Public bug reported: Canon Maxify MB2320 printer (all-in-one) causes or systemd causes lines to be added to /var/tmp/ continuously. By constant, I mean whenever the printer, or scanner, or copier function. I reported a bug at the Canon Printer Community Forum for it's writing massively large files (starting cnij) and filling /var/tmp to the point where / was complaining of no space remaining. As these two problems may be linked I'm posting a little about the cnij files, too. Please bear with me. http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Office-Printers/Maxify-MB2320-and- driver/td-p/165313 The next problem occurs after I start a weekly removal of those cnij files. When the device (printer) was first installed there were but 3 or 4 files in /var/tmp, no including the cnij-s. That has now grown to 70+ lines. I append a few here, as they are somewhat similar. [Bug 1088185] Re: kernel hangs on boot with btrfs
There is no more information than what I can add here. I installed Ubuntu ver. 12.04LTS (Precise Pangolin) about a week ago (1-August-2013). I used the BTRFS file system. On first re-boot after installation, I was offered 3 choices: (S)kip -- (I)gnore -- (M)ount Manually. Selecting skip hung the boot and the OS never loaded. Selecting the IGNORE for both / and /home (those word or characters do appear on-screen) loads the OS and I have a working computer. Since this problem is at boot time, I believe that the Launchpad Reporting tool- mechanism isn't able to report as it's not loaded. I am in the habit of closing all the open files, directory folders and applications (e.g., Firefox), before I issue the shutdown command. When the shutdown is issued, the OS seems to unwind itself very quickly - a few seconds only - but the power does not shut down. I have to press the power button a few seconds and the computer is then turned off. I have been doing this about 8 days or so and have not seen another problem. I backup daily. If you have questions post them to me. I can try to find the kernel.log or whatever, but I don't know where to look or how much to post without your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088185 Title: kernel hangs on boot with btrfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1088185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1548947] [NEW] Canon printer/scanner driver fails
Public bug reported: This is about issues with Canon's Maxify MB2320 drivers for the printer and scanner. Something puts a large number of files in /var/tmp, whenever the printer or scanner functions are used. These files all start with cnij. The scanner driver is not Sane compliant. To scan the Canon app must be called from a terminal with: scangearmp2 running that produces: "(scangearmp2:11008): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID 1019 was not found when attempting to remove it" I have posted about this at the Canon community forum and this forum today (23 Feb 16). Per Launchpad requirements: mark@Lexington:/var/tmp$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS Release:14.04 mark@Lexington:/var/tmp$ apt-cache policy scangearmp2 scangearmp2: Installed: 3.00-1 Candidate: 3.00-1 Version table: *** 3.00-1 0 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I have asked the Canon forum to better work with Linux developers towards writing Linux compatible software. I expected the Canon to be Linux compliant, not to have Canon try to make Linux comply with Canon. These cnij* objects in /var/tmp became so numerous (305) that I received a " / is full" message. That required posts at UbuntuForum.com to resolve that problem. The 305 cnij* created 1.7gig of file space in /var/tmp. This problem must be temporarily resolved by: cd /var/tmp and then sudo rm cnij*. Then ls to see that the cnij-s* are gone. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: canon cnij maxify mb2320 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1548947 Title: Canon printer/scanner driver fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1548947/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1101395] Re: mythlogserver crashed with SIGSEGV in QObject::disconnect()
Without MythTV's frontend running, the Launchpad Bug reporter came up on screen today. I had to twice enter my Linux Admin password, and then and only then would this bug be reported. While this bug has been triaged as being of medium importance, I suggest it is worse (higher importance). Ever since MythTV has become part of my auto-downloads through the Ubuntu Update Manager, my hard drive spins furiously and the CPU had insane load averages of 15 : 12 : 8. I have a quad core cpu. This conflict even causes the mouse cursor to disappear from the screen and no amount of mouse movement "finds" it. What is even more confusing is that I am taken to a Launchpad page to select from several bugs and I have NO WAY of knowing which to select. So, even though I'm in ignorance, I have selected this one. By the bye: the Launchpad bug report took several minutes to populate it's report and send it along here. As my upload speed is 76K, that's a lot of upload. [Bug 1101395] Re: mythlogserver crashed with SIGSEGV in QObject::disconnect()
Today, I turned the 'puter on. A few moments after the desktop finished loading, I noticed both tuner lights on my SiliconDust tuner are active. No reason for that no scheduled work for Myth. I sudo the backend to stop and noticed a significant drop in CPU usage. And the tuner LEDs are out. Per Mr. Mashos request re: top & cpu from a few days ago. With no other software app running, other than the terminal, so that I might observe the TOP results, stopping the backend restored some sanity to the OS. Part of Apache2 was mis-configged and aptitude figured that out and re- installed it, so that's at an 'end' for now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1101395 Title: mythlogserver crashed with SIGSEGV in QObject::disconnect() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/1101395/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 719443] Re: Search and categories do not work
I too confirm that the search function does not work. I find the Browse function is working. These problems (of some non-functionality) seem to happen with each release of a new Ubuntu. I currently use: Precise Pangolin v. 12.04. In the past, I corrected some of the problems installing or updating Poplar (this statement about Poplar is from my memory & is over 2 years ago). I looked at the list of dependencies, tried to see the first one: coreutils 8.5-1ubuntu3 and at the terminal Aptitude said: mark@Lexington-19:~$ sudo aptitude install coreutils 8.5-1ubuntu3 [sudo] password for mark: Couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "8.5-1ubuntu3" Couldn't find any package whose name or description matched "8.5-1ubuntu3" No packages will be installed, upgraded, or removed. [Bug 550559] Re: hdd problems, failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED
This particular issue has been plaguing my setup for quite some time. Many different hard drives were tried (different mainboard, too), but I eventually just learned to tolerate it and kept replacing hard drives after they were inevitably 'rotted' by the machine's behavior. I'm not entirely sure _what_ the system is doing to the drives, but it seems to cause serious mechanical wear over time. I think that it is causing excessive resets of the drive, and this eventually leads to degradation of the drive's surface itself. However, at least in my case I think I found the culprit. I was attempting to copy data from a 'bad' drive to a new 2TB WD drive, and the new drive was throwing these errors as well. Stuck the new drive in an external USB enclosure and the drive copies sped up, and no errors were reported. I think the source of my problem was some old slide-in SATA enclosures I was using on my server. I can't find the manufacturer anymore, but something about the circuitboard on these units was causing the drive problems. I think it was ONLY causing problems with newer SATA-spec drives...older, 1.5SATA drives did not seem to be throwing errors like this. I realize I'm probably in the minority here (I doubt anyone else was using these things), but by directly connecting my drives to the SATA controller I'm not seeing the errors anymore. This may shed light on what the real issue is, but I don't know the kernel innards well enough to venture a guess as to what the dysfunction is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/550559 Title: hdd problems, failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/550559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
