[Bug 388089] Re: nautilus loses too much space on screen

2009-06-16 Thread NaSH
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 386150 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386150

i don't talk about any toolbar...
i don't talk about moving elements..

i just talk about changing the default display size of nautilus, and
perhaps display more caracters on a filename in some case.

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-21 Thread NaSH
well... i think it's a very bad idea.
most user, on other os, use the navigation arrow.. remove them, mean annoying
lots of new user on linux.
i even use them very often, without thinking about it. And if you look how
people use win95->vista, you'll see they use it everyday.

So removing it is a bad idea if you want to spread the use of a file
manager on linux.

reducing the size of nautilus on the screen is for me, one of the main thing
that has to be done.
the toolbar is too big, it's true. i don't know about the icons inside, but
don't remove the arrow, witch are usefull for many newbie.

another important point for me, is the size of the folders, i already talked
about it on the bug that have been merged with this one :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/388089
(do i need to repeat ? or just a link is engouh? i'm not used with the way
talking on a buglist)

[Bug 216789] Re: Broken "el" translation of help file

2008-04-24 Thread nash
I wonder if this should be higher then medium. This break affects
scrollkeeper, and possibly even prevents other documentation from being
updated. Additionally it generates an email to users monthly until it
is fixed. It's also been reported multiple times.

Also it's an easy fix, just fix a single occurance of an ampersand.

2008-04-25 Thread nash
I should probably also point out that the offending message is mailed to
you because it fails under cron.monthly.

So any spurious messages sent to the user on a monthly basis are
generally considered a bad thing. [Insert rant about bombaded user with
spurious messages to train user to ignore messages when they are serious
and general bad security]

I've attached the email I received.

[Bug 480705] [NEW] NetworkManager does not save Movil Internet conection config in Karmic

2009-11-11 Thread nash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I use a Huawei E226 Broadband modem with Movistar 3G and to connect I need
EVERYTIME to put DNS and search domains into LAN config.
And if the connections falls, I have to change it again.
How can I save that?

By other hand, it is really difficult to connect the modem to internet.

In Jaunty there were not problem. But in Karmic I can't connect my
modem. I have to use wvdial for that, and it works fine.

Thanks,

[Bug 449876] Re: raid degraded after update to Karmic beta

2009-11-15 Thread NaSH
it seems that you're right, it's an old signature on disks. I was using
some of these disks to test raid, 2 years ago..

sudo dmraid -r
/dev/sda: "sil" and "nvidia" formats discovered (using nvidia)!
/dev/sdc: nvidia, "nvidia_cbccehbc", stripe, ok, 488397166 sectors, data@ 0
/dev/sdb: nvidia, "nvidia_cbccehbc", stripe, ok, 488397166 sectors, data@ 0
/dev/sda: nvidia, "nvidia_fhjffiga", stripe, ok, 490234750 sectors, data@ 0

so i guess that signatures are on sda only ? or on sdb and sdc too ?

so, trying dmraid -r /dev/sda -E should solve the pblm

anyway, removing them resolve my pblm.

[Bug 777005] [NEW] microphone is broken when Cheese or Skype with video is on. I have creative cam live! (VF0470)

2011-05-04 Thread nash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I have microphone in this cam, and another one mic. This problem is for both
devices.
Mic is recognized, I can record and playback is ok, but when I'm starting
cheese or Skype with video then recording from microphone is corupted. Playback
is very slow. And when I turn off Skype or/and cheese, then this effect is
still on. I must reboot computer for fix this.
Attached is a small sample of such a playback (I'm saying "this is test").

[Bug 371475] [NEW] Guest's built with Intrepid will not boot after upgrade to Jaunty

2009-05-03 Thread Russell Nash
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

I have two KVM guests which I installed while running Intrepid:

- Ubuntu Intrepid Server x86
- Windows XP Home Edition

These two guests ran fine, however, since I performed a dist-upgrade to
Jaunty neither of them will boot. Intrepid server boot fails right
after the KVM bios with a 'BUG: Int14: CR2 ffb0' error. A screen
shot of the complete message is here:

http://www.hhoknowhow.info/~russ/images/kvm_boot_fail.jpg

The Windows XP guest hangs on a blank screen right after the KVM BIOS.

In both cases, it is as if the guest cannot access the hard drive?

Guests installed from scratch under Jaunty function fine. This is an
up-to-date x86 Jaunty installation on an Intel i7 920.

[Bug 332377] Re: webcam does not work with flash

2009-04-24 Thread Russell Nash
I can confirm the same issue with Jaunty. I believe it is due to the
fact that flash for linux is only compatible with V4L devices and not
V4L2.

[Bug 199030] Re: Can't close SCIM

2008-05-20 Thread Michael Nash
Hello,

Apologies if my comments are irrelevant or superfluous, this is my first
time using the forums.

Whenever I log on, the SCIM keyboard icon appears by the date and time.
When I open a window, it turns to a Chinese character icon and whatever
I type turns to Chinese.

"System/Administration/Language Support -> disable the checkbox "Enable support
to enter complex characters"
 - I've done this.

"sudo im-switch -z all_ALL -s none"
 - I've done this.

"for conf in ja_JP ko_KR zh_CN zh_HK zh_SG zh_TW all_ALL; do if LC_ALL=C
update-alternatives --display xinput-${conf} | grep -q 'status is manual' &&
LC_ALL=C update-alternatives --display xinput-${conf} | grep -q 'currently
points to .*scim-bridge'; then update-alternatives --auto xinput-${conf}; fi;
done"
 - I've done this.

Yet the blasted thing still appears, and I still end up typing Chinese
every time I open a new window. I'm at the end of my tether, and I don't
really want to have to do a clean installation. Any more suggestions?

(If I've not provided enough information to be useful, please ask me
what you need to know and I'll get back to you a.s.a.p.)

[Bug 225257] Re: Firefox 3 Beta 5 not saving normal or live bookmarks

2008-05-22 Thread Russell Nash
I had some free time today and did some 'destructive' debugging on this
problem, here's what I discovered:

I closed down firefox and performed 'rm -rf .mozilla' in my home
directory, effectively blowing away the entire firefox configuration. I
restarted firefox and went through preferences, setting things to the
way I like them.

Next, I performed some testing, adding normal bookmarks and live
bookmarks. The bookmarks added themselves to the bookmark menu and were
still there after closing and restarting firefox, even after logging out
and logging back in. In essence, the problem was solved and firefox was
bookmarking like it should.

I think this definitely proves that this is a configuration issue.

Next, I am a very fond and extensive user of google toolbar, so that I
can access my bookmarks from whatever browser I choose to use. In
firefox 3b5, google's toolbar does not work, it's not compatible. Even
if you disable the compatibility checking, it still refuses to download
your bookmarks. I'd gotten around this by using the 'gmarks' add-on
instead.

I wanted to return to the exact same configuration for the purposes of
this test, therefore I went ahead and re-installed gmarks. Now that
gmarks was installed, I noted that the same bookmark problem was back.

In gmarks options, there is an option for 'CTRL+D / CTRL+SHIFT+D
support', it seems that this will basically intercept any 'add bookmark'
requests, even if chosen from the bookmark menu. I disabled this option
and found that I could add bookmarks and live bookmarks again with no
problems.

I think that the main thing we can draw from this is that there is a
very high chance that the problems we are experiencing might be the
fault of an add-on?

It might also be useful if as well as just going through and disabling
add-ons as a test, we might want to try blowing away the ~/.mozilla
directory as well and starting firefox from scratch again?

This bug is definitely solved for me at this point.

Russ.

Your issue looks like its gmarks that was causing it. this may not be the same
for everyone but either way we are unable to support extensions we dont package.

I certainly agree with that. I'm more concerned that my experience with
add-ons here is likely to be the cause of everyone else's problems too.

I too can confirm that the hardy-proposed kernel for 32bit systems isn't
fixing the issue here also. I can see RX/TX packets on the vif1.0
interface in Dom0, however, still no reply to pings / traffic from
inside or outside DomU.

2008-05-07 Thread Russell Nash
Thanks for the responses, Hirano & janevirt.

I tried Hirano's 32bit kernel and had no luck, now I'm on the hardy-
proposed kernel and still have no luck.

To answer your question, janevirt, I'm using 2.6.24-17-xen. I'm
installing via xen-tools, which seems (to my surprise) to be booting
using dom0's kernel. I'm going to investigate setting up a domU which
boots off of it's own older kernel, probably the gutsy one.

2008-05-07 Thread Russell Nash
Ok,

The good news here is that I'm an idiot!!! :)

I'm very, very new to xen and had accepted pretty much the defaults for
the xend configuration.

I was setting up my DomU to use routed traffic, however, my xend config
was configured to use bridging.

I switched from:
(network-script network-bridge)
(vif-script vif-bridge)

To:
(network-script network-route)
(vif-script vif-route)

and traffic is now flowing as it should.

Sorry for the false alarm! ...and thank you for all the responses and
help.

[Bug 184482] Unable to save on USB drive

2008-01-19 Thread Nash Thakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I insert a memory stick in my USB drive the computer recognises it
and successfully opens it - hence no problem on that side.

The problem is when I try to save files such as open office onto the
memory stick or using other UBUNTU applications or copy and paste files
from โ€œDocumentsโ€ folders.

When I try to save files on the memory stick, this is what happens. The files
appear to have been saved in the Memory stick. But when you pull out the memory
stick and insert it into another computer I get a blank screen.
Sometimes an empty shell of the original files saves appears on the memory
stick but with nothing in them โ€“ I.e. just an empty shell. But on some cases
the files seems to save properly.

Also when I pull out the memory stick I keep getting โ€œUnsafe device
removalโ€ message. asking me to go and tinker with โ€œRejectโ€ in the drive
icon.

But the Memory stick Icon has no โ€œRejectโ€ option.

For your information I have two hard drive on the PC. I am not that
great with PC and any help you send me will be appreciated bit please

[Bug 184699] problems to shut off automatic entry to address book

2008-01-20 Thread Nash Thakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi
I am trying to shut off Evolution from making automatic entries of e-mails I
respond to in my address book.
To do this I have gone into
โ€œEDITโ€
โ€œPREFERENCESโ€
โ€œAUTOCOMPLETIONโ€ and unchecked the option box, hoping this would solve the
problem. But the problem still persists.

Further more, from โ€œPREFERENCESโ€ section I have gone to
โ€œMAIL PREFERENCESโ€
โ€œAUTOMATIC CONTACTSโ€ and then unchecked the option box for โ€œAUTOMATICALLY
CREATE ENTRIES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK WHEN RESPONDING TO EMAILSโ€ But nothing
seems to work.
Please help how to solve this problem.

2010-01-05 Thread Jack Nash
My Spanish Language pack is working now. It seemed that the upgrades did
not take immediate effect. The delay was a week or so. Strange, but for
me, everthing is working well now.

[Bug 463521] Re: Spanish Language Does Not Work in Karmic Koala

2009-11-22 Thread Jack Nash
Hey guys,

Any news on this bug? I have a Spanish speaking home, and not having
Spanish available to my users is a serious issue. Is this being worked?
What else can I provide to assist in getting this resolved.

By the way, I have upgraded all seven of my home PC's, and non of them
able to use Spanish.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I upgraded from 9.04, which I had Spanish working for one of my users, and
after the upgrade the Spanish went away. I then updated my language packs,
selected Spanish for my user, but it remained english even though the
Language settings show spanish.

Thanks,

Google Talk is a downloadable Windows* application that offers:
- Free calls over your computer anytime, from anywhere, and for as long as you
want
- A simple and intuitive user interface for sending instant messages or making
calls--no clutter, pop-ups or ads
- Superior voice quality through just a microphone and computer speaker
- Fast file transfers with no restrictions on file type

After signing-up, download Google Talk and sign in with your new Google Account
username and password.
You can then begin inviting anyone you want to talk to for free.

Google Talk works with any computer speaker and microphone, such as the ones
built-in to many PC laptops today,
as well as with wired and wireless headsets and USB phones. Google Talk also
works across all firewalls.

Google Talk is still in beta. Just like with Gmail, we're working hard to add
features and make improvements,
so we might also ask for your comments and suggestions periodically. We
appreciate your help in making it even better!

Thanks,

The Google Talk Team

gpu-manager is responsible for overwriting your X config file.
Commenting out the "start on" lines at the top of gpu-manager's upstart
script located at /etc/init/gpu-manager.conf will temporarily disable

[Bug 1189721] Re: Ralink RT3290 needs bluetooth driver

2014-05-08 Thread Josh Nash
I am having the same issue using Ubuntu 14.04 on an HP Envy dv6. After
following the instrucions found here, I can access my bluetooth and I
can accurately scan for devices, and my phone can scan for my computer,
it just wont pair. I would love to see some tips and I would be happy to
post the output of any log files if asked. I wish I knew more and could
provide a more meaningful contribution to something that seems to affect
a lot of people.

[Bug 663887] Re: Left internal speaker not working in Maverick [Sony Vaio F11 / ALC275]

2011-01-02 Thread Nash Bansal
One of the errors I had with this bug (before Alex has confirmed it
works in natty) is that it would also disable the left speaker in my
windows 7 install. This would require me to uninstall and delete drivers
for ALL sound output

4x Nvidia HDMI
1x Realtek speaker
1x Bluetooth audio

and perform numerous reboots and driver installs to fix this. This
problem occurs even from a live cd boot, so I am cautious of trying it
again.

Alex, will a daily live natty iso have this kernel in it or did you pull
it from a ppa?

[Bug 156085] Re: Could not open /proc/bus/usb/devices

2008-05-17 Thread J C Nash
As far as I can tell, this also affects xsane for some scanners. I've a
Canon Canoscan LiDE 60 that used to work fine in Feisty, but now doesn't
get found. Since usbview is complaining about /proc/bus/usb/devices, I
suspect the same issue. Seems like there's been a long trail on this
one. Can we expect a fix soon? As someone who tries to promote Linux and
Open Source, bugs like this really take the rug out from under us and
send folk rushing to spend $100s with M$.
