I've found a recent bug report for this issue on the GitLab site for mutter: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/140 This also requires me to correct my initial bug report. [Bug 1768734] [NEW] restoring edge tiled windows with client-side decorations shrinks them
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 with a vanilla GNOME session under Wayland (the issue presents with the default Ubuntu session too). I've encountered this issue with applications that use Client-Side window decorations, which is most of the GNOME applications. Windows with borders drawn through the window manager do not have this issue. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open an application that uses client-side decorations, e.g. gnome-terminal. 2. Edge tile the window by snapping the window to the left or right screen edge via dragging or Super+left/right keyboard shortcut. 3. Unsnap the window to restore it to its non-tiled state. Expected behaviour: The position and dimensions of the window after undoing the edge tiling should be restored to exactly what it was prior to tiling. Observed behaviour: Every time the window is unsnapped from the edge, its size gets smaller. Repeating it over and over will lead to it eventually shrinking to the minimum possible size. I've found this issue only with client-side decorated windows, and only while restoring from split view / edge tiling. Restoring from a normal maximized state is ok. ** Affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768734 Title: restoring edge tiled windows with client-side decorations shrinks them To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1768734/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

See https://github.com/hadess/switcheroo-control/issues/12 The bug occurs because switcheroo-control tries to query /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch, which is prevented under recent kernels running with Secure Boot enabled, as they lock down access to debugfs. On the face of it, I cannot see how this particular commit could in any way cause that other bug to arise. All it does is to allow the i915 driver to load a particular firmware file, and that too only if it's explicitly specified on the kernel command line. [Bug 907454] Re: [Dell Precision M4500] offlining and then re-onlining CPUs makes the system unresponsive
I am seeing this problem too on my desktop PC (DP55WB with Core i5 750 processor), running 11.10. After the upgrade, the system no longer managed to resume from suspend, and would just freeze. I tried debugging the suspend; it worked until the 'platform' stage by writing to /sys/power/pm_test, but putting 'processors' would cause the system to fail to recover from suspend, so I suspected that it is an SMP related issue. I manually tried offlining a CPU, but trying to put it back online afterwards does not succeed and leads to lots of kernel errors. The problem exists in the 3.0 kernel in oneiric, and I've even installed the 3.2-rc7 kernel from precise, but the issue remains. [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()
Echoing #71, I have Intel graphics, and since upgrading to 13.04, Skype segfaults on startup. This fix, which apparently works for those with Nvidia graphics drivers, is ineffective. Skype still crashes for me with intel graphics. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155327 Title: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1155327/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()
@gunnarhj: Yes, I also tried it with both libqtwebkit4 2.2.1 and 2.3.0. Whatever was causing the problem, seemed to be from the upgrade of some other package when upgrading to raring. Investigating further with gdb, I found this: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x08075f44 in malloc@plt () (gdb) bt #0 0x08075f44 in malloc@plt () #1 0xb4f8a653 in g_malloc () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 #2 0xb4f8a92b in g_malloc_n () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 #3 0xb4f93e10 in g_quark_from_static_string () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0 #4 0xb5045822 in ?? () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2 That indicated some issue with libglib2.0-0. I was using the latest GNOME packages, including libglib 2.37.0 from the ricotz testing PPA. I reverted it back to 2.36.0, and now Skype works again. The issue I was facing was not related to libGL, and I have resolved it for now. But I thought of pointing this out, because maybe Skype will still crash for anybody running with a newer version of glib, irrespective of which graphics driver they are running.
@dfgweb: Read my earlier comment #97. [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()
@gunnarhj: Maybe not directly an Ubuntu issue, but certainly an issue with Skype. [Bug 576751] Re: wnck-applet has memory leak
Reading the report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- panel/+bug/17787 might give a clue to the source of the problem. The real culprit seems to be the transparency of the panel. The panel with the wnck-applet needs to have both auto-hide and transparency enabled for the memory leak to show up (I just checked now, even if auto-hide is off and only transparency is enabled, switching workspaces causes a leak). After disabling transparency by changing the panel background to None (but keeping auto-hide enabled), I am no longer seeing the memory leak on my system.
