/lib/firmware/i915/kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin and /lib/firmware/i915/bxt_guc_ver8_7.bin have been present in linux- firmware 1.165 onwards.
I believe the patch to remove the MODULE_FIRMWARE entries, http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu- bionic.git/patch/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_guc_fw.c?id=dc0f16f9b5084e6be2b8c79f8c6cd499a3451791, should be reverted now, else many people on Kaby Lake hardware who try to load the GuC firmware will experience errors (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs- tools/+bug/1728238). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1626740 Title: i915 module requests unreleased GUC firmware files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1626740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
