Once playing a flash SWF, all gstreamer stops working (Totem, Rhythmbox, etc). Conversely, flash movies start but do not play when a gstreamer application is running. My sound card is Intel, and I'm using ALSA. [Bug 237818] [NEW] wine abc.com video strange graphics mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: wine After following instructions in the forums per this thread's instructions, I attempted to watch tv shows on abc.com through wine + firefox + adobe flash. Everything works fine through the commercials, right up to the point where the show video starts. At this point the video flips into a weird color scheme with lots of interesting colors, but not correct ones. The video itself also appears to be heavily pixelated. Even after closing wine, this graphics mode persists until the xserver is restarted with Ctrl+ Alt + Backspace. Another thought is that I have not been able to find this bug reported anywhere else except at the very end of the thread I followed directions from, leading me to believe that possibly a recent change is responsible for this bug... but I don't have any real evidence to support that. [Bug 325973] [NEW] "Starting File Manager" Windows open uncontrollably
Public bug reported: When "Show Desktop" is disabled from gconf-editor, windows saying "Starting File Manager" replicate until the computer fails to respond. Using the path in gconf-editor: apps->nautilus->preferences, disabling show desktop for an effect crashes my computer. I turned off show desktop to show a different wallpaper on every workspace, and windows keep appearing. This process does not show up under the Systems Monitor. [Bug 54526] Mounting remote Samba shares does not work correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop In attempting to mount Samba shares on a remote system, I came across two issues. Note I was using System Settings | System Administration | Disk & Filesystems, using Administrator mode, clicked on New, set Type to Windows File Sharing, etc. The two issues were as follows: 1) Kubuntu (and possibly also Ubuntu) do not automatically install smbfs during initial setup, and until smbfs is installed, you get confusing error messages while trying to mount your shares. So perhaps smbfs should be installed as part of a default Kubuntu/Ubuntu installation, or at very least the error message should mention that smbfs needs to be installed. 2) If the share you are trying to mount has a space in the name (e.g. Disk 1), the configuration dialog attempts to convert it to a hexadecimal value, %20. But that will not work in fstab. Instead, fstab wants to see an octal (!) value, in the form \040 - so, attempting to mount a share with a space in the name will always fail for most users unless they figure out what the problem is and manually edit fstab, changing the %20 to \040 A third, minor issue is that by default it sets the 'Files belong to user/group' settings to root. But it doesn't work (for writing to the remote share in particular) unless you set these to the value of the user (since you cannot log in as root). ** Affects: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop In attempting to mount Samba shares on a remote system, I came across two issues. [Bug 103378] Re: impossible mount floppy device in /media
Dudes, I really couldn't find in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KubuntuKDEMedia any reason (I supose that there were good ones) to not use media:/ (maybe I did a poor reading). Could anyone explain it? I really saw were lots of complaints (the problems dealed in this bug) about the (weak) workaround of /media/, what I saw corrected in Gutsy by using, for my surprise (and as mlaverdiere wrote before), system:/media - ! - ... Well, I thought that it was pretty different (better) than media:/ but (again, maybe I did poor testing but ...) it works (and looks) exactly alike! ... Can anyone see any difference? I really don't get (I know that, as I said, in this case specifically, the current solution acts just like what we were proposing - unless I'm wrong - but I, at least, would like to understand) why not to use the corresponding kioslave to everything ... I'm sorry but, honestly, without a good reason, it gives me the impression of kid stuff, you know (like "what we did was not good but we'll not use an old behaviour either")? ... This is why I'm intrigued about this (maybe small) issue ... I can't (and refuse to) be believe in this impression ... I don't think it'd be a big deal to go back to a (working) previous behaviour. [Bug 217770] [NEW] Kubuntu-KDE4 Hardy Beta LiveCD install crashes session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Downloaded the latest kubuntu-kde4 i386 beta livecd from kubuntu website. Despite of running whatever boot option from which you may install the system, either to directly install or to run livecd session and then install, installation crashes the session after choosing keyboard layout. It just starts (or restarts) kde4 session all over. It only happens if, on CD boot, I choose my language (Portuguese-Brazil - don't know about other languages). If I leave in default, English, it works ok, even if, at the first step of installation, I then choose my language. Through this way, everything gets installed as should, including the download of support for my language, what is set nicely after installation. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kubuntu-KDE4 Hardy Beta LiveCD install crashes session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217770 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 99073] Re: There's no alias field for jabber accounts in kopete
I took a while to test it again (and tested a bit quickly at the kubuntu-kde4 beta version - I believe it's the latest release of kopete, at least, for kde4.0.x) and, really the *only* way to enter an alias for *one* jabber account is to do it for an identity. Well, I don't know about you but, if not a bug, it's a really weird situation (and unnatural behaviour): * Imagine if you have several accounts into the default identity and want one jabber account to have a different alias. You would expect just to edit a field but you gotta create another identity and gain one extra thing to manage (and get lost into, 'cause now you have 2 identities - at least one, undesired - , and, to make them to have the same data (like picture, for example), you have to duplicate these data every time you change them). And, look, you only wanted to use a different alias! Not have to manage another identity! * I'm not gonna take your time driving you through thinking if you have a (or maybe 2) Google Talk (jabber) account(s), another jabber one from your job (like I have), and a ICQ's, and a Yahoo!'s (and, who knows, more ;-) ) ... How many identities would you have to manage! And they'd only be different by the alias ... The option would not to make use of identities and set these data at the accounts directly but you can't 'cause they don't have appropriate fields for them (well, jabber accounts - I think MSN's - and maybe others - do). * I once changed the alias from my job's jabber account through PSI (which I used there for a while), but I couldn't change it again through kopete (which is far better in everything else) without changing the whole identity. BTW, by the same logic, having a picture field for jabber accounts doesn't look so bad (and unneeded), does it? ;-) The thing is, IMHO, an identity should have what you want to be global and you expect to be able to change only specific data into accounts. *That* is to make having identities an useful feature! It's something I (and probably everybody) would want to use! Ok, I'm sorry but, if that's the intention of identities, that sounds like a bug to me, as you have no way to change specific alias (or picture) for the accounts you want to. -- There's no alias field for jabber accounts in kopete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just tested and it nicely went ok. I went 'till the last step (when it displays to you all data you set before actually perform installation) but, however, I didn't finished the whole installation 'cause, first, it passed correctly through keyboard layout (which is the point here) and, second, I just installed my system ;-) and I think language wouldn't interfere in the installation itself. Would it? Is this test needed? Well, the only strange thing was the window's title: "Instalar #-#-#-#-# pt_BR.po (debian-installer) #-#-#-#-# Instalar". What versions of the driver have you tried? I had this exact same bug back in breezy / dapper flight 6. I have the same onboard NIC you have as well. I am absolutely positive I don't have anything current, but I know there was a similar bug in the windows driver for this card, involving a buffer that was defaulted to have its value set too low. I pointed this out a year or two ago, and the bug appeared to go away after someone backported a driver to the current ubuntu version of the kernel. [Bug 103378] Re: impossible mount floppy device in /media
Well, I tested placing it on /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings/kde-profile/default/share/apps/systemview/media.desktop an it works but it'll only keep the original System menu order if you also copy /usr/share/apps/systemview/home.desktop there, 'cause /.../kubuntu-default-settings/.../systemview looks like preceding the list of item from /usr/share/apps/systemview and Storage Media starts appearing on first place, before all other items. Copying home.desktop there made it get first place again, putting Storage Media back to second place. [Bug 108236] KSnapshot keeps file name on it's titlebar fater saving the snapshot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ksnapshot After saving a snapshot, the file name hangs on titlebar, even if you take another snapshot by clicking New Snapshot, or close KSnapshot and call it again, or just start another instance of it. Well, it's handy to make you know if you saved the snapshot which thumbnail your seeing on KSnapshot and, if so, the file name, so I don't think it should be taken from there. However, if it stays there after a new snapshot, it starts to make confusion, once you are seeing a snapshot that is not saved and, even less, is different from the one you did save with that filename (at least, till you save it with the same filename, if you do it, once you can just close without saving - and sometimes maybe by thinking that you saved it, 'cause of the filename on titlebar). So, I believe the name of the former saved file should be cleared from titlebar on any new snapshot (even by clicking New Snapshot or hitting Print Screen), that is, the name of the former saved file should stay there till a new snapshot. ** Affects: kdegraphics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- KSnapshot keeps file name on it's titlebar fater saving the snapshot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108236 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kdegraphics in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 103378] Re: impossible mount floppy device in /media
Hi, Epsilom. I've been making a few tests yesterday and I've seen that there's some more thing to do ... One of them is when you insert a new media and kubuntu asks you what do you wanna do with it: open in a new window, ... and do nothing. If you open it in a new window, you'll see that it's been opened over /media/[device]. It should be changed for the correct path by kioslave. Also, when you're in a file saving dialog, if you select, on the left options, storage media, it's also /media. So, I've been thinking, as kde or (k)ubuntu developer which I'm not (actually, far from it - yet), if there's no more clever, more centered, way to do it, in which we make a change in one place, instead of this way, changing lots of places with the risk of forgetting some ... So, I ask who knows kubuntu *very* well (I don't know if it's your case, Epsilom, or someone else's but, whoever can answer with precision): is there? -- impossible mount floppy device in /media https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103378 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 27840] Re: Win key both a modifier and a regular key
Andrew, (First, just for correction, it's Arnaldo, but it's ok ...) I would need to install'em again and I couldn't find those CDs. So I downloaded Mandriva One KDE 2007 Live CD and tested it through Live CD. So, supposing that those versions I mentioned work the same way or that today they use an evolution of those, I should answer that they don't. This Mandriva do open the menu on Win Key and I saw on its keyboard shortcuts settings that it was mapped to open K Menu but, when I tried to assign it as a modifier of an arbitrary action, right when I held the Win Key, it just prompted me that the key was assigned to open the applications menu, asking if I wanted to change. Then I took a look around the other keyboard shortcuts, as Amarok ones, and all of those that use Win Key as modifier in Kubuntu were changed to Ctrl+Shift(or Alt)+Key. Just to know, I asked a friend that uses Debian w/ Gnome and mapped Win Key to open Applications menu (a second option on this way that I'm aware of - to see if Gnome had it) to try to map it to an action as a modifier. [Bug 103378] Re: impossible mount floppy device in /media
I used to have the same problem. So that I stopped using System Menu > Storage Media (which today's default is to point to /media) for read floppy disks, pen drives (they were using to left some of the folders in which they're mounted listed in /media) or any other storage media. Instead, I was launching System Menu > Home Folder and, by choosing Services side button in the then opened konqueror window, I selected in its tree, Storage Media (this one points to media:/). As you can see, it's a long way to get there! So, I just copied /usr/share/apps/systemview/media.desktop to ~/.kde/share/apps/systemview/media.desktop (I created systemview folder there) and edited it from Path=/media to Path=media:/ Now, my System Menu > Storage Media points to media:/ and it is just neat! [Bug 462305] [NEW] Change of login language changes remembered passwords?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Travelling the world... installing Ubuntu ( well, here at least ). My friend is German and can work in english. I am an english speaking Canadian - no german language skills. I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in english (but german keymapping). Automatic login of main user, changed to german language. I logout and log back in with english to work on installing programs or instruct her. She entered passwords while in english with 'remember passwords# option. Logging in with german on startup she complained about not getting email. It looked to be a wrong password. I cleared the passwords and she re-entered while logged in using german and it now works. I finally stumbled upon this.. explains everything. http://hostilefork.com/2013/10/20/qtcreator-debugger-no-locals-ubuntu/ Short version: Ubuntu is shipping with gdb compiled with python V3 which is incompatible with Python V2. [Bug 335603] Re: nautilus file copy dialogue does not close after completing the operation
I am currently having this issue. I am running 10.04 with all current updates on a Dell Inspiron 1721 (AMD) laptop. When I try and copy/move files/folders in nautilus, it transfers the files, but with no dialog. Nautilus eventually freezes up and has to force closed. Doesn't matter what I try and do, the issue happens no matter what is reproducible every time. -- nautilus file copy dialogue does not close after completing the operation https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335603 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
