[Bug 244569] [NEW] mipmaps cause white screen with Radeon 2600 XT
Public bug reported: With the fglrx driver enabled on up-to-date Hardy (same problem occurs with the cutting-edge envyNG driver), desktop effects work almost normally. However certain effects show up as white boxes rather than actual windows. I have attached a screenshot of the Shift Switcher plugin doing this. I played around with ccsm, and have determined that enabling mipmaps causes this to happen, and disabling them lets compiz work normally. AFAIK, this just needs forwarding upstream to AMD / ATI, since mipmaps work normally with other cards. EDIT: I was going to report this against fglrx-driver package, but launchpad wouldn't let me... ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: fglrx -- mipmaps cause white screen with Radeon 2600 XT https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 245597] [NEW] Kernel error accessing ata drive
Public bug reported: Every now and then, following no particular pattern that I can discern, my installation of Hardy (up-to-date) fails to boot. If I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1, I get the following messages: [86.772416] ATI1.00 revalidation failed (errno=-5) [121.879145] ATI1.00 revalidation failed (errno=-5) and then the following lines repeat forever (or as long as I've let them, which is several minutes). [Bug 376193] Re: [upstream] Cannot print double-sided on HP Officejet
On Jaunty, the driver only crashes when using the combination of a draft mode (either "Draft" or "Draft Grayscale") and double-sided printing. On Karmic, despite the fact that the setup now asks me if I have duplex installed, I cannot print double-sided at all. Long-edge and Short-edge are no longer options for the "Duplex" setting. I can choose only "Off" or "". Printing otherwise seems to work fine. I have tried removing and readding the print queue to no avail. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx Up-to-date Jaunty Final, fresh install. Radeon 2600 XT. Installing the proprietary drivers works fine, however causes X to leak memory like mad. After about 1h use on fglrx, X was at ~500MB of ram. Using the open-source driver fixes this problem, but loses 3D acceleration. I am currently installing the more recent fglrx driver as per http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/9.4 I will post back as to whether this fixes the memory leak. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Memory leak in fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 368271] Re: Memory leak in fglrx
The new fglrx drivers as installed at http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/9.4 seem to fix the memory leak. After 3h normal usage, X is at 175MB of ram. I know that the new fglrx doesn't support cards before the HD2000 series, which is why it wasn't included in Jaunty in the first place, however this is a killer memory leak. [Bug 368809] Re: ignore_nice_load ignored in processor scaling
Rkimber, I find that http://www.pantz.org/software/cpufreq/usingcpufreqonlinux.html does a good job of explaining things. As far as I can tell, there is a value which determines whether or not nice processes (like BOINC) are allowed to scale the CPU or not. The default value of this has changed, which is what is the cause of your problem. The bug I am reporting however, is that even when I manually turn this value on, BOINC still scales the CPU. [Bug 230906] Re: Using special characters in filenames prevents Windows from opening
The Support page on the NTFS-3G website doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. This isn't a case of certain applications on Windows not supporting the special characters, this is a case of the entire filesystem layer on Windows not supporting these characters. [Bug 83333] Re: Intel Network Card 82562V not recognized on Dell Dimension E520
I have a Dell Inspiron 530. On Hardy, the 82562V-2 card is detected and configured automatically, and works perfectly fine. In the intrepid beta it is not. Checking ifconfig reveals that in Hardy it is recognized as eth0, but Intrepid shows it as pan0, and starts it Down. Using ifconfig to enable it doesn't help. I would think that it would use the e100 driver, but if it uses the e1000 driver, that would be the cause (since it is disabled in the beta). lspci line: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562V-2 10/100 Network Connection (rev 02) Can someone at least tell me if this is due to the e1000 driver problem? -- Intel Network Card 82562V not recognized on Dell Dimension E520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/8 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 123078] Re: System -> Quit takes a long time to appear
It looks like there are actually several bugs here. One is that "gnome-session-save --kil" calls gnome-power-manager and takes 30 seconds to time out. It should check if gnome-power-manager is running before making the call, and skip that step if it isn't. This should be easy to fix, and can be worked around by reenabling gnome- power-manager in the sessions box. The other bugs seem to have something to do with gnome-panel and should probably be split to their own bug. Can somebody at least fix the first one? [Bug 230906] [NEW] Using special characters in filenames prevents Windows from opening
Public bug reported: Currently, the only characters that Ubuntu doesn't support in filenames and paths are slashes, while Windows has a considerable list (apostrophes, asterisks, etc). [Bug 108327] ATI Radeon 7200 not detected by x in livecd.
Public bug reported: My PC has an ATI Radeon 7200 graphics card (PCI connections), and a built-in Intel chipset. When using the standard i386 feisty livecd, x fails to configure itself properly. If I use the normal boot option, it goes to a black screen after the boot splash, and nothing further happens. If I switch my monitor to the Intel port, it displays garbage. If I boot in safe graphics mode, I get an x server error after the boot splash. The gist of the error message is that no device was found at PCI location 1:8:0. When I view the xorg.conf file from nano, there is only one device listed, which appears to be the correctly configured Intel chip. The screen section uses this device. I managed to get it to work by adding a device to xorg.conf with the PCIBus location as "1:8:0", and the driver as "radeon". I then changed the screen section to use the new device rather than the Intel. After saving that modification and starting x, I have working, 3d accelerated graphics. It seems to me that this isn't a driver issue, it is simply an issue of x not detecting the graphics card properly. [Bug 573161] [NEW] iPod Touch not recognized
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Fresh, up-to-date lucid install. I have an iPod Touch 8GB (latest gen, latest firmware). When I plug it in, it beeps and goes to its 'connected' screen, but nothing happens on Ubuntu's end. It doesn't show up on the desktop or under Places or under rhythmbox. It does show up as an Apple device under lsusb. I reported this against rhythmbox because when I select "Scan Removable Media" in its menu the iPod beeps and reconnects again (still nothing on Ubuntu's end) but it may be a problem with udev or some other library. [Bug 414744] Re: libpcap issue: tcpdump consumes 100% cpu power after interface shutdown
The tabs/spaces thing was an accident, you can ignore them. If you'll look under the bug status, you'll see "Nominated for Lucid". That basically means that this will be fixed in a lucid update after it has gotten some testing (probably in a few weeks). The full upstream version will be in Maverick, but most of the bugfixes it contains are in the process of being applied to the version in Lucid. The full new version is not in Lucid because it contains a few untested new features that weren't suitable for an LTS. -- libpcap issue: tcpdump consumes 100% cpu power after interface shutdown https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/414744 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 455852] Re: Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site
Given that this has been confirmed on many different browsers on both 32 and 64 bit systems, I think it's pretty clear that this is an issue with flash, and thus not something we can really hope to fix ourselves. Has anyone been in contact with adobe about this? -- Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575485] Re: iPod Touch not recognized
Given that the device is showing up in the udev logs, I imagine that this isn't a problem with the kernel, but rather somewhere higher up the stack. I will test with upstream kernel if you still think it is necessary for some reason. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- iPod Touch not recognized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
