[Bug 218663] Re: cups remote https administration hangs

2009-05-14 Thread Vittorio Beggi
I had the same problem today.
Was bound to upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 server because of no more repositories
access.
The Cups server, when I try to administer from remote, asks user/password
then hangs forever.

Lost a tremendous amount of time trying different configurations,
reading manuals etc.etc. Many people seem to have the same problem but
nobody seems to take seriously. (LTS = Long Time Sleep ?)

But do we really need CUPS to manage printer spooler? Plz give us back
old bsd printers and leave cups to paranhoic fellows so fond of security
as to impair themselves from administering their own printers (this is
the most secured indeed).

[Bug 45997] Re: usb floppy + multi card reader doesn't work

2009-03-03 Thread Vittorio Beggi
The bug is still there. Nobody seems to care about it but: 1) it makes
access to old documents and sources (those filed in floppy disks) almost
impossible. When floppy is connected it is identified as
"CITIZEN_X1DE_USB" after that it is not recognized as a block device.
Shall I give up every hope of seeing it managed? Can I give help ?

[Bug 218663] Re: cups remote https administration hangs

2009-07-28 Thread Vittorio Beggi
It might be a malfunction related to some obscure aspects of firefox. I
connected with "seamonkey" and could successfully administer the
printer(s). Don't have any idea about the intrinsic nature of the bug.
Just tried. (Plug and Pray?)

[Bug 54454] Re: mozilla-firefox printing system is not able to print on more than 1 page

2008-04-23 Thread Vittorio Beggi
a page that causes the error can be found here:
http://ubuntufacile.blogspot.com/
Common recurrent problems:
- Long lines are often truncated; - tables or "div" completely ingored; -
multipage documents only first page printed

Have been looking around in the net, the problem has been reported
several times but answers are almost "esotheric". Nobody seems to take
care of a really annoying behaviour that makes people complain of having
dropped IE.

2008-04-29 Thread Vittorio Beggi
As you requested by mail, I attach the contents of /var/dist-upgrade.
For your information I finished the upgrade by opening a root terminal,
deinstalling some packages (firefox 3 prerelease & audacity) then issued
dist-upgrade by hand.

bye

Re: [Bug 155771] Re: sorry the update manager failed to install or upgrade

2008-02-03 Thread Vittorio Beggi
Thank you for your reply.
At the time when I reported the bug I was updating from feisty to gutsy.
I was not able to circumvent it, so I installed gutsy from the
alternate install, planning to further investigate in the future.
Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the bug any more.
At the moment I have no time (or better no big-enough-slice of time) to
give some valuable help (And I am really very sorry of it).
Thank you again.
I hope I will be able to help in the future.

Best Regards.

[Bug 1390724] Re: Cups + cups-bsd not providing command line functionality

2014-11-26 Thread Vittorio Beggi
Solved with this workaround:

1) Install cups-pdf
2) Set cups-pdf as default printer (This builds the queue as expected)
3) Set the HPLIP printer as default printer.

Now lpq shows the HPLIP printer queue as expected.
Printing to default lp works again.

Re: [Bug 1390724] Re: Cups + cups-bsd not providing command line functionality

2014-11-18 Thread Vittorio Beggi
I cannot check. I need more precise specifications of the packages (deb)
you want tested.
All I can say is that the bug appeared after upgrading (with reinstall)
from ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04.
I have some Debian "wheezy" installed in several different phisical
computers and "virtual-boxes" where there isn't that problem.

[Bug 782415] [NEW] perl: warning: Setting locale failed.

2011-05-13 Thread Vittorio Beggi
Public bug reported:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = "it_IT:it:en_GB:en",
LC_ALL = (unset),

are supported and installed on your system.

Xubuntu Lucid
upgraded from 8.04
also with fresh installed 11.4

Neither launcpad nor forums seem to have working solutions.
Locales are essential features (or not) ?
Is there anybody caring about a bug that has been there so long ?

[Bug 782415] Re: perl: warning: Setting locale failed.

2011-05-15 Thread Vittorio Beggi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 229699 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229699

The original bug reported it as consequence of setting a keyboard map different
from installed language.
My event is independent from keyboard mapping.
It seems as if locales are not correctly generated after installation.
To your judgement whether consider the bug a duplicate or not.
Aniway if i could receive infos about where to look for acheiving or help in
finding a solution, the bug would be "killed" (together with it's duplicate
master) isn't it ?
