[Bug 1645503] [NEW] System crashes randomly when Konsole is active

2016-11-28 Thread Vianney Stroebel
Public bug reported:

Since my upgrade to Kubuntu 16.10, system crashes randomly: the screen
becomes black with only an irregular vertical line on the leftmost side.
The whole system becomes unresponsive, even the keyboard (no access to
Ctrl + Alt + F1).

Strangely, this only happens when Konsole is active, whatever I may be
doing in it.

This is making my work very difficult : I have to restart my system and
all my programming environment several times a day.

Graphic controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics
Controller
Driver: i915

Could anyone help me?

[Bug 1645503] Re: System crashes randomly when Konsole is active

2017-06-05 Thread Vianney Stroebel
Still happening on Zesty. I have to restart my machine several times a
day if I'm using Konsole and I can't find a good replacement for it.

Same with Calibre Viewer.

This bug has been declared 7 months ago now. Can anyone help us?

At least, somebody more knowledgeable than me could suggest how we could
investigate further. I don't even know where to start...

[Bug 1645503] Re: System crashes randomly when Konsole is active

2017-02-16 Thread Vianney Stroebel
Some news: the same crash has also happened several times while the
Calibre Viewer window was active. So at the moment, Konsole and the
Calibre Viewer, both QT applications, seem to trigger this bug.

Chrisitan (the-doctor), which application windows are active when your
system crashes?

[Bug 1639560] Re: linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic causes complete system freeze

2016-11-07 Thread Vianney Stroebel
I have the same problem: with kernel linux-image-4.8.0-26-generic, the
system randomly freezes completely (black screen, no network) a few time
a day with no apparent correlation to any software activity or cpu heat.

My laptop is an HP ProBook 6550b.
GPU: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Driver: i915
Kubuntu 16.10 recently upgraded.

The only difference with OP is that it doesn't freeze when I logout.

I just reverted to linux-image-4.8.0-22-generic. I'll post here whether
it fixes the issue.

[Bug 1645503] Re: System crashes randomly when Konsole is active

2016-12-08 Thread Vianney Stroebel
The system freeze happens several times a day, usually after using
Konsole for some time.

However it also happened once when Gwenview was active. Those are the
only two KDE Frameworks 5 applications that I use (mostly Konsole), so
it may be related.

It has never happened when another application was active (so when I
don't use Konsole for a week, it never happens).

This issue is unrelated to CPU activity or RAM.

[Bug 911331] Re: No sound when output connector is set to "Analog Headphones"

2012-01-03 Thread Vianney Stroebel
Let me quote the useful parts of
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1902918 :

"Basically, if I re-insert my headphones into the jack, PulseAudio changes the
output connector to "Analog Headphones" which produces no sound. So it forces
me to manually change it back to "Analog Speakers" through the sound settings
to get the audio working properly. This is a real nuisance. Any help is greatly
appreciated. I'm sick of that feeling of dread the moment I accidentally
disconnect my headphones."

"I figure the automatic output switching that pulseaudio does is a
feature. I don't believe I need it, as my sound card(?) already manages
that for me. So it should be as simple as disabling that feature. I
don't recall having this problem before with pulse on this computer, so
it could've been from an update."

It's quite annoying and we don't know when it's going to be resolved, so
it would be nice if someone could explain how we can disable the
automatic switching mechanism in the meantime (I didn't understand much
of the documentation in analog-output.conf.common.). We don't need this
feature anyway because the speaker muting is already managed (somehow)
when the headphones are plugged in, even if the output connector is set
back to "Analog Speakers".

This bug might be a duplicate of bug #909348 and bug #817943, but not
exactly like bug #829843.

It looks like bug #817943 is the culprit.
