[Bug 252324] [NEW] Add Crawley to available clock applet locations

2008-07-27 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

I'm unable to add Crawley (UK) as a location in the World Clock, to display
time and weather information. The location is present on weather.com:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/local/UKXX0816?from=search_city

It should be added to the list of locations.

I'm running an up-to-date Hardy.

Thanks!

[Bug 99508] Re: Window titlebar displayed not right with compiz enabled

2008-10-17 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
This bug has 28 duplicates, how can it be affecting a small number of
people? I'm sure there are plenty of people who haven't commented here.

For me also the hardy workaround had fixed the problem, but it has reappeared
now that I've upgraded to Intrepid.
An annoying thing about this is that if you are working with a changing title
bar, like compose a new mail in evolution and start typing the subject - then
it will exhibit the behaviour which is distracting.

[Bug 285695] [NEW] Nautilus asks for user password when launched

2008-10-18 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:

Click on Places menu
Click on any option like Home
Nautilus pops up the gksu password prompt.

Clicking on any local bookmarked folder name produces the same result. It
should not do that, but just open the said directory. This started happening
after I upgraded to Intrepid beta from Hardy.
Currently running an up-to-date Intrepid.

Yes, I can confirm this. I have the laptop screen set to turn off after 10
mins, but instead I end up with a dimmed screenshot of the desktop.

It appears this happens only when connected to AC power - when on battery it
turns off completely. Not sure if this is happening always though.

[Bug 211252] Re: Cannot recieve files using bluetooth

2008-08-02 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Emmet,

I'd say the bug is not fully resolved yet. 1 and 3 were the issues,
haven't had an issue with 2 myself.

For 1, it fails at step F (on my Nokia phone, I get "Sending Failed"
message).

For 3, it was failing at step I when I last checked, which was not a
long time ago. However, I just tried again and I am able to browse the
contents. Don't think there have been any bluetooth-related updates
since I last checked, so wonder how it is working now. But good to see
atleast some quick way to get the files to my computer from the phone is
working now.

So now, only 1 is an unresolved issue for me. Hope others can confirm on
that.

Perhaps an extra piece of info which may be useful - I've recently bought a
Western Digital Passport portable hard drive. The USB transfer rates with this
drive are good (7-10MB/s).
However the USB flash drive performs as described by others above. The speed
decreases after some 70-80 MB is copied and comes down to ~400KB/s.
Running an up-to-date Intrepid.

[Bug 153727] Re: Ethernet device's number increases by one after every reboot

[Bug 335644] Re: Audio replaced with static

2009-04-16 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
One of my recent updates resulted in the same thing. I'm relieved that
the solution is to just to raise the PCM volume. I have had this before
when I had upgraded to Intrepid, and couldn't find a resolution so did a
clean re-install to get sound working again. I was scared I would have
to reinstall again.

I'm thinking it is a bug that the PCM volume is set to 0 by some
updates. Is this assumption correct and will there be a fix for this?
While it is easy for me now that I know it, it would be a big pain for
others who haven't realized the magic trick.

Thanks.

Did you look for your model in the file /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-

[Bug 135149] Re: [gutsy] failed to unmount migrationassistant

2007-10-16 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
I faced similar problem with Gutsy RC installation - I selected Firefox
in the list of applications to migrate, and got the same error message.
Clicking "Go Back" unmounted the partition apparently, but did not
continue with the installation. The installation progress dialog just
disappears, without any success/error messages.

Since there were no errors, I thought maybe installation was successful.
However, on rebooting I didn't see the Grub menu.

I ran the installation again and this time chose "Continue" on the
error. The installation continued and I saw the progress bar completing
after doing a lot of more things. Finally I got the completion message
and reboot popup, so this time I knew that everything was fine.
Rebooting got me to the Grub menu now.

[Bug 153727] Ethernet device's number increases by one after every reboot

2007-10-17 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

After every reboot, my network device name changes: eth0, eth1, eth2,
... eth8 - yes it's the 9th boot into Ubuntu:-).

I found this Debian thread which is for the same issue. I have also seen
messages like this during boot time:
:00:07.0: Invalid Mac address detected: 87:84:65:f3:18:00
Please complain to your hardware vendor. Switching to a random MAC.

Not sure why this is happening, but it is probably also the reason I
need to enter the IP/Subnet/Gateway every time I boot into the system
(I'm using a static IP). Then I have to do "sudo /etc/init.d/networking
restart" to make it work. Pretty annoying.

2007-10-21 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Thanks for this update Ben. I have an Acer Aspire 4520 which has nVidia HDA
card with Realtek ALC268 codec. Installing linux-backports-modules-generic
solved my sound problem.
Only thing is that I had to manually add this line at the bottom of
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base to make the sound work:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer

Perhaps this line can be added automatically, for better user
experience.

I'm hoping this will be included in the gutsy-updates, since it solves
so many sound problems.

When it drops me to the shell I reboot, and almost all the time it boots

[Bug 219540] [NEW] ndiswrapper wifi driver needs to be reinstalled after every boot

2008-04-19 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

The windows inf driver for Atheroes ar5007eg works with ndiswrapper on
64-bit Hardy. After every boot, I have to remove the windows inf driver
and then re-install it. Without doing this, the networks are detected, I
am able to select a network, then I enter the network key but an IP
doesn't get assigned. I'm not able to connect to the network and use it.

However, as soon as I remove the inf driver and re-install it, the
connection starts working.

[Bug 219648] [NEW] Laptop battery runtime reduced in Hardy compared to Gutsy

2008-04-19 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I'm running an up-to-date Hardy (AMD64).

Under Windows XP, my laptop battery provides a full 3 hour backup.
Under Ubuntu Gutsy, the backup time has always been 2 hours 30 mins.

With Hardy supporting "dynticks" which is supposed to bring better power
management to 64-bit machines, I thought that the backup time would go
up. However, ever since I upgraded to Hardy, the battery only provides 2
hours backup! Thats a big drop.

It is not just the reporting time, as I know there are bugs open about
that being displayed incorrectly. But the laptop actually powers off
after 2 hours.

This looks like a regression at the very least.

[Bug 72033] Re: Install gnome-bluetooth by default to enable receiving files via bluetooth

2008-01-16 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Changed the summary and description, and set the status to New. This
issue is present in Gutsy.

** Summary changed:

- Can't transfer files from mobile to pc via Bluetooth in Gnome
+ Install gnome-bluetooth by default to enable receiving files via bluetooth

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gnome-bluetooth
+ Receiving files via bluetooth doesn't work unless gnome-obex-server is
+ running, which is provided by the gnome-bluetooth package. This package
+ itself is in Universe. The package should be promoted to main, and
+ installed by default (atleast if bluetooth hardware is detected, as
+ suggested in bug 120865).

- Referring to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bluetooth/TestPlan
+ Also, whenever bluetooth is enabled (as when pressing the bluetooth
+ button on the laptop), gnome-obex-server should be run automatically so
+ that file receiving can work seamlessly.

- Tried to send an image from mobile to pc, the transfer stucks at 0% and
- then fails. No file transfered. This occurs only with Gnome, with KDE
- all works perfectly in the two directions.

- - Mobile model: Samsung Z140-V
- - Laptop: Asus M6Ne
- - Dongle model: D-Link DBT-120 (from lsusb command: Bus 002 Device 004: ID
0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode))
+ Currently, a user has to enable Universe, install gnome-bluetooth and then
every time run gnome-obex-server (Accessories > Bluetooth File Sharing) before
they can receive files. These steps can be eliminated for a smoother experience.

2007-12-28 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Some additional information after reading a few threads in forums:

The issue seems to be with various Acer Aspire models.

Also, some mention in a thread that disabling acpi during boot fixes the
problem (acpi=0). However, that is not a feasible option for laptops.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3899110#post3899110

Perhaps the problem is with Acer acpi?

Also, how did you check the webcam? Try running Ekiga and see if it can

[Bug 179618] During "Get from Web ", griffith window keeps stealing focus

2007-12-31 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

Steps:
Click on Add
Enter a title, click on "Get from Web"
Select a title from the list of matches displayed
Switch to a different window

Result:
griffith window keeps grabbing the focus, and causes interruptions if you're
working with something else while it gets the info from Web. This happens again
if you switch back to the window, as long as the fetching is in progress.

Expected result:
griffith should quietly fetch the info from Web, and not try to become the
active window.

Nice software, btw. Just started using it, and it looks nice.

[Bug 179623] Make "Get from Web" button a default action if title is entered

2007-12-31 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Public bug reported:

When adding a new movie, we enter the title and the obvious next step is
to retrieve the movie info from Web. However, currently it requires
moving the mouse over to the "Get from Web" page and click. A more
natural thing to do is just hit the Enter key. The button should be made
the default and respond to the Enter key if focus is on the title
fields.

[Bug 197118] Re: ClearWeatherScreenlet.py crashed with IOError in readline()

2008-04-03 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
As I mentioned on bug 208861,

If the internet connection is dead, weather screenlet keeps on crashing
on Hardy Beta. On Gutsy, it used to display a nice "No weather
information available" message. This is a regression.

[Bug 197118] Re: ClearWeatherScreenlet.py crashed with IOError in readline()

2008-04-03 Thread Uphaar Agrawalla
Also, bug 208861 is about crash with IOError in connect() when network
is not available, whereas this bug is IOError in readline(). Not sure if
they are due to the same issue.
