[Bug 236114] [NEW] FTP works incorrectly with custom default folder and forbidden ls command in /
Public bug reported: I have a public FTP server where root directory listing is forbidden and server redirects clients to another working directory basing on its login name implicitly after login. Embedded Nautilus ftp client fails to work with such server because of trying to access "/" instead of current directory. Moreover, when I type correct working directory Nautilus says that it is not found. I checked gFTP and it works just perfect. Windows Explorer also works fine. Please see gFTP output below this message. Hope it helps the community. Do not hesitate to ask any further questions you probably may have, you are welcome. gFTP output: TYPE I 200 Type set to I. PWD 257 "/pHDSN-HAMM" is current directory. Loading directory listing /pHDSN-HAMM from server (LC_TIME=en_US.UTF-8) PASV 227 Entering Passive Mode (4,78,136,68,196,16). [Bug 1023734] Re: [GA-78LMT-S2P, Realtek ALC887-VD, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all
No... So, on my desktop which was new at the time, I could not get any speaker or headphone to produce sound through the built-in audio hardware, whether I used the front jack or back jack, plugged in a variety of speakers and headphones, etc. Pulseaudio could detect the hardware it seems, but I was not able to produce sound. At the suggestion of a friend who has used Linux for much longer than me, I eventually worked around the problem by buying a $10 USB audio adaptor, which works, and promptly forgot to continue digging into this issue. :P It would be nice if I could find a real solution, though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1023734 Title: [GA-78LMT-S2P, Realtek ALC887-VD, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1023734/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60863] Re: Save session option gets stuck ON
I just marked bug 461890 as a duplicate of this since it's essentially the same issue. I should note (from that bug) that "Remember Currently Running Application" does not behave as Help says it should. This is an ambiguity in the help file, which says the button remembers apps only one. That sounds like they will be remembered for only one reboot, but I think it was supposed to mean that apps from this session (not from future logouts) are remembered permanently. I confirm this on Karmic 9.10. -- Save session option gets stuck ON https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/60863 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 568185] [NEW] Confusing description "Remember Currently Running Application" under Startup Applications Preferences --> Options
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Version: Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, gnome-session 2.28.0-0ubuntu5 Under Startup Applications Preferences --> Options tab, there is a button "Remember Currently Running Application". This sounds like it will let you pick a currently running application to remember. In fact, it remembers all running applications permanently. Users may infer that "Remember Currently Running Application" would pop up a choose-application dialog box, which would presumably have a Cancel button. Thus they assume it is safe to press. (I did this, and apparently others have: http://www.google.com/search?q=gnome+OR+ubuntu+%22remember+currently+running+application%22 or http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1335047 ) Since the GUI provides no way to undo pressing the button (this is Bug #60863), it should be clarified what it does, by renaming it to something like "Permanently Remember Running Applications". Alternatively, just remove the button, since it's broken. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Confusing description "Remember Currently Running Application" under Startup Applications Preferences --> Options https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568185 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 751689] Re: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'
I urge everyone experiencing this bug to get their hardware checked (hopefully under warranty). For me (X201 tablet), having the fan replaced (and I think thermal paste applied correctly) brought temperatures down from ≈60°C‒65°C idle and 80°C‒100°C (+shutdown) under full load, to <60°C under full load. This is not to deny the existence of the software bug: the combination of overheating-prone hardware with the slow fan software bug is producing the obvious effects for at least some of those affected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751689 Title: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/751689/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1120870] [NEW] Bit rot breaking shared library references in packages not rebuilt in new Ubuntu releases
Public bug reported: There is an issue where old package versions are getting released for newer Ubuntu releases without properly updating the shared-library references. This causes regressions where a package that worked in previous versions starts to fail with an error like: photoprint: error while loading shared libraries: libgutenprint.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory The underlying issue seems to cause reappearing bugs like bug #260849, where the photoprint package refers to libgutenprint.so.2 (the file in current Ubuntu releases is libgutenprint.so.3). This was discussed in Ask Ubuntu chat: http://chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/201/conversation/bug-1120870 What we guess is happening is that when a new Ubuntu release appears, binary packages with no source changes are copied unmodified into the newer Ubuntu repository. It apparently does not check that the package still works, or specifically that needed shared libraries still exist. What should happen is that the package gets rebuilt when needed (simply rebuilding the package gets it to work again: http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/8047931#8047931). ** Affects: launchpad Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: metabug packaging regression-release ** Description changed: There is an issue where old package versions are getting released for newer Ubuntu releases without properly updating the shared-library references. [Bug 1030403] [NEW] "Network connected" icon looks like a punk with a mullet wearing a hat
Public bug reported: This is about the tray icon that is shown when the wired network is connected (screenshot attached) under the Oxygen icon theme (KDE default). It's supposed to be a picture of an RJ-45 ethernet connector being plugged in, which makes sense. However, it looks more like a punk with a mullet wearing a hat. The cause of the issue is that as drawn, the cable is drawn being plugged in *upside-down*, with the grooves (containing the contacts) on top. Besides being wrong, it leaves space on top in the shape of a hat. While I have nothing against mullets, the icon should be re-drawn to avoid user confusion. ** Affects: oxygen-icons Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: plasma-widget-networkmanagement Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: oxygen-icons (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030403 Title: "Network connected" icon looks like a punk with a mullet wearing a hat To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oxygen-icons/+bug/1030403/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 733092] Re: libjpeg compiled without arithmetic coding support
In the US, patents last at most 20 years under current law (and at the time, I believe it was shorter, 17 years). See http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/35/154.html (the current law), and page 146 of the old law, http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/mpep/old/E5R14_L.pdf . If Wikipedia is to be believed, JPEG's design was complete by 1990, any patents covering JPEG would either certainly have expired by 2010, probably earlier, or would be bogus due to prior art. Also likely the same issue: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IBus#LibreOffice Quote: If IBus does load but doesn't see LibreOffice as an input window, add this line to ~/.bashrc: export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus And then, you need to start ibus with "-xim -d", for example, add this line to ~/.xinitrc: ibus-daemon --xim -d But the horrible thing is that you need to start LibreOffice in terminal. If you're using KDE and the above doesn't work, install "libreoffice-gnome" and add this line to ~/.xprofile if you don't mind running LibreOffice in GTK2 mode: export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP="gnome" That'll make IBus work with LibreOffice, and you can start LibreOffice from anywhere -- not just the terminal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007423 Title: ibus won't turn 'on' when in certain programs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1007423/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 253616] Re: Displays characters from different font when font doesn't contain it
This is called font substitution, and it's ultimately controlled by fontconfig. I assume that Specimen is using normal GNOME text-rendering functions and just passing it the chosen font. A character not present gets automatically substituted with some other font. That's what should happen for most purposes—but it makes no sense for a font viewer. ** Also affects: gnome-specimen Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253616 Title: Displays characters from different font when font doesn't contain it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-specimen/+bug/253616/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 751689] Re: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'
I had this problem on Maverick on a ThinkPad X201 tablet (computer overheating and rebooting), and as a workaround kept my computer underclocked (using the CPU frequency scaling applet for the GNOME panel). After using that way for a while (maybe for a few months to a year), I tried again a few months ago with normal CPU settings. The rebooting problem was fixed (presumably by some update): the CPU speed would now be throttled when the computer overheats (kicks in at about 82 degrees C), avoiding a reboot (when it hits 100 degrees). (Of course, the underlying problem of slow fans remains.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751689 Title: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/751689/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
