[Bug 1769792] Re: Keyboard and Touchpad do not work after suspend/resume

2018-11-22 Thread Sami Sieranoja
I have the same or very similar problem, with Fujitsu Lifebook E557,
Ubuntu 16.04,18.04 and 18.10.

After resume from suspend, touchpad doesn't work at all. Keyboard works
somewhat, but some keys are randomly "repete". Reboot doesn't
help, but need to to turn the machine off and on again.

Using the following workaround I can get it to work, but with limited
functionality:

sudo modprobe -r psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps

The problem with this fix is that two finger scrolling is no longer
possible with the touchpad and the laptop has no other way to scroll.

[Bug 1286816] [NEW] brightness control breaks after 13.04 -> 13.10 upgrade on lenovo e325

2014-03-02 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 13.04 to 13.10 brightness control on unity no
longer works. When pressing the brightness control keys, the brightness
"progress bar" is shown, but the change has usually no effect.

Sometimes it does change to from 100% brightness to very dim (0%?), but
doesn't change back. Usually it has no effect. In 13.04 it worked fine.

This is very similar problem with these bugs:

[Bug 1001000] Re: gnome-shell high cpu usage

2012-12-18 Thread Sami Sieranoja
I have the same (or very similar) issue with my system. For me the high
CPU usage is related especially to resuming from suspend. After resuming
the system is very unresponsive for around 1-2 minutes, with gnome-shell
taking 80-100% cpu. After that the cpu usage slowly decreases, but stays
around 20% when idle.

[Bug 1127913] [NEW] kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend

2013-02-17 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Public bug reported:

Many times (this has happened to me at least 20 times) when I resume from
suspend the system is very unresponsive and 'sudo iotop' shows kswapd0 taking
99% IO. Only rebooting the machine fixes the problem. (I have tried logging
off. It doesn't help).

After rebooting the machine and two times suspending (for a few seconds)
and resuming the machine I was unable to reproduce the bug, so maybe it
needs a longer suspend or uptime or something.

Here's swap/memory usage info about my system after reboot:

[Bug 1127913] Re: kswapd (kswapd0) takes 99% IO after resuming from suspend

2013-03-10 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Disregard my last comment.

For 21 days my system run fine, but now I ran into this bug again.

At the time this problem occurred, I ran the following commands to produce
debug info:
free > free.txt
cp /var/log/syslog .
sudo iotop -b -n 20 > iotop.txt
sudo iotop -b -n 20 > iotop2.txt

For example, the contents of free.txt:
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem: 404953210647402984792 0 1168 143196
-/+ buffers/cache: 9203763129156
Swap: 20479961893072 154924

It shows that there are 3G free memory, but still almost 100% of swap is
used.

Also output of iotop shows kswapd taking large amounts of IO:
sjs@zen:[~/debug2] $ grep kswapd iotop.txt

I have also attached my syslog. I resumed the computer from suspend at Mar 10
19:16:02. I waited for around 20 minutes for the IO load to go down, but it
didn't, so I rebooted my computer.

I will test the upstream kernel, but it will probably take several weeks
to determine if they fix this problem or not..

[Bug 876457] [NEW] sound skips under io load. protocol-native.c: Requesting rewind due to end of underrun.

2011-10-17 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Public bug reported:

The problem appears after upgrading 10.04 to 11.10.

Enclosed are pulseaudio syslog entries produced by running:
grep -E '(pulseaudio|alsa-sink)' /var/log/syslog > pulseaudio.log

To reproduce the bug, create io load spike by running:
cat medium_size_file_not_in_filecache > /dev/null

.. while playing song with mplayer or rhythmbox.

I tried changing scheduler to deadline, but it didn't have much effect.
echo "deadline" | sudo tee /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler
echo "deadline" | sudo tee /sys/block/sdb/queue/scheduler
echo "deadline" | sudo tee /sys/block/sdc/queue/scheduler

I get the skipping even if the file played is (most likely) in
filecache. I tried to ensure this by running cat song.flac > /dev/null
just before playing the song.

[Bug 876457] Re: sound skips under io load. protocol-native.c: Requesting rewind due to end of underrun.

2011-10-17 Thread Sami Sieranoja
I also checked that pulseaudio is running as realtime:
sjs@zen:[~] $ ionice -p $(pidof pulseaudio)
realtime: prio 4

I temporarily disabled pulseaudio by running:
echo "autospawn = no" > ~/.pulse/client.conf
pkill pulseaudio

And then I run mplayer while also creating i/o load by cat:ing an 8Gb file:
 mplayer -cache 90333 song.flac
...
AO: [pulse] Init failed: Connection refused
Failed to initialize audio driver 'pulse'
AO: [alsa] 48000Hz 2ch s16le (2 bytes per sample)

.. And sound is perfect. There are no skipping whatsoever in sound,
although the system becomes slightly unresponsive in other aspects. So
this must be somehow pulseaudio problem and not just a general system
problem.

[Bug 877547] [NEW] dash "run a command" feature runs wrong command if command is typen too fast

2011-10-18 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Public bug reported:

I opened the unity "run a command" feature with keyboard shortcut
(binded to " r", instead of normal alt-f2). Then I typed skype
and hit enter (quite fast). Instead of running skype, it run xkill,
which was the first command to show in the history. Before i hit enter,
the word "skype" was visible, but the search results were not up to date
yet.

I think this was the first time I used this "run a command" feature
after booting, so the search might have been slower than normal. So, its
hard to reproduce the bug by typing "skype", but it is easy to reproduce
by typing just one letter (like "z") and hitting enter (very fast).
Instead of running whatever would come up with the search, it runs the
previous command in history.

[Bug 952524] [NEW] changing mouse sensitivity in system settings has no effect on trackpoint (lenovo e325)

2012-03-11 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Public bug reported:

TO REPRODUCE:
1. Open mouse and touchpad settings in System Settings
2. Put sensitivity and acceleration to max.
3. Doubleclick on the face

RESULT: Trackpoint is as slow as it was before. This leads to me having
to use more pressure on the trackpoint, which causes my fingers to hurt
after a while.

EXPECTED RESULT: Mouse pointer should move faster while using
TrackPoint.

My computer "Thinkpad Edge E325" is Ubuntu Certified, so I would expect
this kind of feature to work.

WORKAROUND: On the following page I found a script that allows to change
sensitivity:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:How_to_configure_the_TrackPoint

A value of 165 (instead of 180) was perfect for me. The default is 128.
#!/bin/sh

T=`find /sys/devices/platform/i8042 -name name | xargs grep -Fl TrackPoint`
SERIO_DIR="${T%/*/*/name}"

sudo sh -c "echo -n 180 > $SERIO_DIR/speed"
sudo sh -c "echo -n 180 > $SERIO_DIR/sensitivity"

[Bug 952538] [NEW] When menubar and tool bar disabled, emacs window is resized to on row

2012-03-11 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Public bug reported:

TO REPRODUCE:
1. write the following into .emacs in order to disable toolbar and menubar:
(menu-bar-mode -1)
(tool-bar-mode -1)
2. run emacs23

RESULT: Window is slowly resized into containing only one row. It cannot
be manually resized to larger size.

EXPECTED RESULT: A normal sized window is opened.

[Bug 952512] Re: one application (chromium) missing in task switcher

2012-03-11 Thread Sami Sieranoja
Unfortunately I am unable to test this because the chrome icon
reappeared on the task switcher after using the system for a while
(around 10-30 minutes). I didn't use the workspace switcher at all.

I'm not sure if this issue is related, but if I move a terminal window
from one workspace to another and then go back to the old workspace,
terminal is still visible on the task switcher. But choosing it on the
task switcher has no visible effect. Also the indicator tot the left of
the launcher item is the same (solid triangle) on both workspaces. The
terminal window does not cross the workspace border.

If a user chooses "quit", but the program doesn't quit, it is clearly a

but it's a bug nevertheless.

[Bug 2068773] Re: Sticky keys accessibility feature breaks after pressing control key twice

2024-06-07 Thread Sami Sieranoja
On second thoughts, this might be a feature, to keep control key locked.
It seems that pressing control key twice again gets one back to normal
state. But the bug is that this feature is not documented in the help
page and I didn't find instructions for this anywhere. And the same
thing doesn't work with alt key in case of alt-tab, so it's not
consistent for all modifiers. Some visual feedback for the state change
would also be nice. Its very confusing when one activates this by
accident.
