[Bug 262132] [NEW] Inkscape and Evolution windows jump when maximized
Public bug reported: The Inkscape bug has already been reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/easytag/+bug/208079 But when using Compiz and running Evolution, if I open a new window (to have, say, Email and Calendar at the same time), the same thing happens to Evolution. To describe it in detail: When the window is maximized, if I click on the menu-bar, the window will jump up and down. This make clicking anything almost impossible, and the only way to unmaximize the window is by holding Alt and drag the window with the mouse. When unmaximized, there is no jumping. [Bug 299376] [NEW] Firefox crashes when running some Java apps
Public bug reported: Hello. I use Firefox 3.0.3 under Ubuntu 8.10. I often use a webpage for managing my parental leave. In Sweden this is done by logging at a webpage by using a system called BankID (similar to loggin in to a bank). Anyhow, since upgrading to 8.10 (32 bit), the java applet on this webpage (http://www.forsakringskassan.se/inloggning/privatpersoner/index.php then click on "BankID") hangs firefox! I've tried with Sun java plugin 6 and 5, both crash! And I've tried with IcedTea on Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit. In this case I can log in, but not "sign" (also hangs) when I've finished with my business. Now, I've tried with Firefox 3.0.3 and Sun java plugin 6 on Opensolaris, and this works! From what I can see, both OSes use the same version of the java plugin (1.6.0-10 b33) and Firefox 3.0.3; but something is obviously different! I don't know where to find any logs from Firefox, but since it hangs I'm not sure if any logs are produced. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Firefox crashes when running some Java apps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/299376 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278318] Re: video tearing with textured video on intel card
I just tested the patched driver and it solves the problem for me. After disabling textured video in xorg.conf, mplayer, totem-gstreamer and vlc use the overlay port and the screen tearing is gone. So with this patch enabled again I think we'll be able to consider this bug as solved. Flash does also still have video tearing for me, but I think it simply doesn't use xv but videos still play fine and don't suddenly stop for me as j described. I also don't see the initial screen flicker that has been reported. tghazali: After installing the new driver, you can disable textured video in your xorg.conf. To do this, simply add Option "TexturedVideo" "false" in the Device section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf like this: Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Option "TexturedVideo" "false" EndSection Finally, thanks to all the people posting great workarounds here and of course to Bryce Harrington for solving this thing! -- video tearing with textured video on intel card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278318 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278318] [NEW] video tearing with textured video on intel card
Public bug reported: Textured video seems to be enabled in the intel driver now in intrepid and a patch that made it possible to disable it has been removed. This leads to severe video tearing in all video players I tried: mplayer, totem, vlc. The only workaround for me at the moment is to use mplayer and instruct it to use the xv port that isn't textured. This also seems to confirm, that it is indeed textured video that is causing the problem. I'm using a netbook with a Mobile 945GME Express Integrated Graphics Controller. [Bug 249458] [NEW] Suspend on LID close does not work
Public bug reported: I have a Clevo M540N laptop, running Ubuntu 8.04. Suspend and resume works OK if I do it from the gnome-menu, or press the power-button and then choose suspend. But if I close the LID, it doesn't work. Usually, the first time I try to suspend by closing the LID, it works. But the second time, it either doesn't do anything, or crash (kernel crash). I suppose it crashes, since I get a black screen and pressing CapsLock doesn't light up the corresponding screen. I never use the Fn+F4 button for suspending, but it seems this causes crashing as well... I'm not sure this is a problem with acpid, or gnome-power-manager, or something else. [Bug 305030] Re: Failed to print document - can't prompt for authorization
I have a similar problem with IPP printing that requires authentication, and I think it's the same bug (or related at least). I set up the printer (IPP) and the first time I printed I was prompted for a password, but it worked. After this, however, I got the authentication error described above. After som digging, I have it kind of working by doing this: 1. Changing the URI in /etc/cups/printers.conf from DeviceURI ipp://:631/printers/printer1 to DeviceURI ipp://USER:PASSWORD@:631/printers/printer1 2. Removed myself from the lpadmin group. Now I can print using lpr or Acroreader (which uses lp/lpr), but I still can't print from Evince! Adding the USER:PASSWORD in system-config-printer does not work, but manually editing /etc/cups/printers.conf did. As a first try, I commented out the "AuthInfoRequired" line, but it crept back in when I restarted Cups! Another thing which may or may not be related is that I can't change the printer settings for this printer that require authentication. [And yes, I tried it while still begin in the lpadmin group...] If I use the Cups web interface, it works however. [Bug 487764] [NEW] Underscore in filenames cause infinite delays in listing icons/files in a "file browser" window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I had previously reported problems with file manager (Nautilus 2.28.1), in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. Files that are viewable in the command line 'ls' command, using the bash shell, are not viewable in Natilus, and also have the bad behavior of causing the 'spinning cursor' to come on and stay indefinitely (> 5 minutes). The problem seems to be triggered by filenames with underscore characters inside. To reproduce: Open Natilus via Places->Home Folder The file Proj is a symlink to ~/Documents/Projects, also listed as a shortcut ral...@sagan:~/Proj/Origami$ mv space_shuttle2.pdf SpaceShuttle.pdf [files now viewable in Nautilus) ral...@sagan:~/Proj/Origami$ mv SpaceShuttle.pdf space_shuttle2.pdf No files in the ~/Proj/Origami are viewable in Nautilus, and the spinning cursor comes on a stays on. Once I rename the files back to the form with no underscore, there is no problem. [Bug 392836] Re: grub not adding correct uuid to grub.cfg
I am running a system with 1 IDE drive (Intrepid), 1 SATA (Windows XP), 1 SATA (Jaunty) and 1 USB external drive which I am using to test Karmic. The Windows drive has the Windows MBR and all others have GRUB with the USB drive having GRUB2. The Jaunty drive also has a separate Boot partition. After Karmic installation all systems would boot from GRUB2 except for my current production system, Jaunty. My initial workaround was just to set the BIOS to boot from this drive first. After experimentation I have found that I must set the "search" specification in the GRUB2 menu to the UUID of the Boot partition and remove the "/boot" from each of the "linux" and "initrd" lines to get Jaunty to boot. -- grub not adding correct uuid to grub.cfg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392836 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 425112] Re: error: cannot open `/dev/sdb' while attempting to get disk size - grub2 update
I had a similar problem with 4 drives, the last being an external USB hard drive. Under Jaunty it is named sdd (by os-prober) while under Karmic it is named sdh (again using os-prober); however, the device.map for Karmic still lists it as sdd. I changed device.map under Karmic to sdh (for grub drive hd3) and ran update-grub without errors. [Bug 445367] Re: os-prober entries do not use correct /boot device
I am having the same problem but without LVM. I am using two SATA drives, the first with Windows and the second with Jaunty with a separate /boot partition and one external USB disk on which Karmic is installed with no separate /boot partition. In Karmic I have created a 06_custom level script in /etc/grub.d in which I have changed the UUID on the search command line to that of the /boot partition for Jaunty and removed "/boot" from the "Linux" and "Initrd" lines. Without removing the execute bit from the 30 level script I just ignore the generated menu entries for Jaunty which follow the Karmic entries. This also gives me the opportunity to do a quick test of any changes to Grub2 by trying the 30 level menu entries to see if they still fail. -- os-prober entries do not use correct /boot device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445367 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 482394] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 - filebrowser busy cursor stays on in certain directories
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I have a comparatively long directory name, and an exceptionally long filename. 1) I'm using ubuntu 9.10 2) Nautilus 2.28.1 (package version 1:2.28.1-0ubuntu1) seems to go nuts when it encounters the long filenames with lots of embedded spaces. 3) I expect to get a full list of Icons showing filenames. 4) What I get instead, is a partial list of the files with shorter names, and a spinning 'busy cursor' that never goes away. This happens whether I am in List View, Compact View, or Icon View. If I do a stop/reload, nothing at all is displayed. 5) Workarounds: I can pop into a shell, and list the files, and the text of the filename renders properly. When I rename a file in the shell window, Nautilus seems to pick it up, but it still keeps the busy cursor on, and refuses to display the other files. , but I shouldn't have to rename files just so Nautilus will work. Long directory example: ~/Pictures/Advertisements/Next50YearsHolland$ Long filename: Screenshot-Amazon.com\:\ The\ Next\ Fifty\ Years\:\ Science\ in\ the\ First\ Half\ of\ the\ Twenty-first\ Century\ \(9780375713422\)\:\ John\ Brockman\ TOC\ 1\ -\ Mozilla\ Firefox.png I rename the long filename to "TOC1.png", and Nautilus displays it properly. The reason I'm filing the bug is that Nautilus shouldn't hang when it encounters a challenging (long) filename. It seems that during system initialization the USB memory card readers (SD, SF, etc), of which there are 4, are either given their designations before the USB disk, which then becomes sdg, or afterward, in which case the external disk becomes sdc. as a circumvention of the "cannot open..." error messages I use gparted to get the disk designations, then rename the pre-defined /boot/grub/device.map[-sdc or sdg] entry appropriate to the configuration. I have attached hwinfo listings of the two configurations taken 15 minutes apart. ** Attachment added: "Good configuration" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34710808/hwinfo-OK -- update-grub reports error on inexistant device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 719112] Re: Alternate install to non-primary drive results in grub MBR error
I think there's a misunderstanding. After telling the installer to install on /dev/sdb (and make it bootable), it asks "Can I install grub on boot drive?" (or words to that effect) with no further details. If you say "Yes", it installs onto /dev/sda. Not the drive you just installed on and made bootable. There is no hint to the user that the way around this is going back a screen to do a semi-automatic grub install to the desired partition. If this is working as intended, feel free to keep this closed. Perhaps a note can be made in the documentation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/719112 Title: Alternate install to non-primary drive results in grub MBR error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/719112/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 686076] Re: Grub fails to recognise Ubuntu 10.10 on a separate hard disc. Windows 7 is recognised OK
I have the same problem, with GRUB updated to January 9th updates. I installed Natty on SDB7, with my production Ubuntu 10.10 on SDB1 and another Ubuntu 10.10 (SuperOS) on SDB5. Grub for both SDB5 and SDB7 was installed on SDB while GRUB for SDB1 (production) is installed on SDA where Windows also resides. On each of the last two updates of Grub in Natty, Grub has been installed on SDA instead of SDB, while at the same time the "grub-update" does not find my production (SDB1) system. Fortunately the Natty "update-grub" does find the SDB5 Ubuntu 10.10 installation from which I can re-install the 10.10 version of Grub on SDA to be able to boot into my production system from which I can then re-install Grub to SDA, reboot from there into Natty and re-install Grub V2 to SDB. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/686076 Title: Grub fails to recognise Ubuntu 10.10 on a separate hard disc.
