Correct - the kernel part of AppArmor hasn't been ported to 2.6.26 yet.
The userspace part has already been updated to svn rev 1289.

This is due to the apparmor profile for mysqld that disallows the mysqld
process to read files in /var/www.

You can emulate the load data infile SQL statement with the mysqlimport
utility and use the LOCAL option (so that the file is sent to the mysqld
rather then mysqld opening the file directly).

Another option is to update mysqld apparmor profile to allow read access
to your file. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor for more
information on this.

[Bug 145267] Re: Add rubygems bin to PATH

2008-07-31 Thread Mathias Gug
I had a look at your implementation and it looks interesting. However I
wonder if the usage of the update-alternative system is necessary as it
brings additional complexity (as already pointed by Lucas above).

Another option would be to simply force symlink binaries from
/var/lib/ruby1.*/bin/ to /usr/local/bin/, that way the last installed
gem always wins.

The main point being that the gem command should installed everything in
/usr/local/ - it can be considered as a program installed by the local
administrator. It should not touch anything in /usr (which is reserved
for dpkg).

So rather than trying to figure out ways to make dpkg and gem know about
each other, it seems easier to make sure that they won't interfere (dpkg
works in /usr, gem in /usr/local).

If you think that update-alternatives is still worth using, I'd suggest
you use the --altdir and --admindir options, so that you don't step on
the update-alternatives system configuration (using
/usr/local/etc/gems/alternatives and /usr/local/lib/gems/alternatives
respectively). Going down that road, it may also be useful to extend the
gem command to provide a way to switch from one alternative to the other
so the end user won't have to learn about the update-alternative system.

I had a look at it. Here are my comments:

 * debian/changelog:

You've renamed all of the entries from hwtest to checkbox. You should
only rename when the rename actually happened (probably at
 0.1-0ubuntu13).

The package upgrade doesn't work. There seems to be an issue with the
hwtest.postrm script.

dn:
supportedSASLMechanisms: LOGIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: PLAIN
supportedSASLMechanisms: DIGEST-MD5

I've used the following options in slapd.conf:

TLSCACertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem
TLSCertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/t-sasl.vmnet.pem
TLSCertificateKeyFile /etc/ssl/private/t-sasl.vmnet.key

and the following options in .ldaprc:

TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem
TLS_CERT /home/mathiaz/t-client.vmnet.pem
TLS_KEY /home/mathiaz/t-client.vmnet.key

I've use a properly PKI to create the certificates:

cacert.pem is a self-signed certifcate. t-sasl.vmnet.pem and
t-client.vmnet.pem are certificate signed by cacert.pem.

Using a self-signed certificate on the client won't work (ldapsearch
doesn't send self-signed certificates).

[Bug 296916] [NEW] Please sync sysstat 8.1.6-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-11-11 Thread Mathias Gug
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sysstat

Please sync sysstat 8.1.6-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

The only change made in Ubuntu has been accepted in Debian:
  * Merge the following change from Ubuntu:
- remove call to execvp() as it's not needed and has potential
  security problems.

Changelog since current jaunty version 8.1.2-2ubuntu1:

sysstat (8.1.6-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.

 -- Robert Luberda <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sun, 09 Nov 2008 09:11:06 +0100

sysstat (8.1.6-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
+ Daily data files format has changed again.
+ NFS v4 support added to sar -n (closes: #434442);
+ All sysstat commands are made consistent with how parameters are
interpreted: "COMMAND " now generates a report continusouly,
"COMMAND 0" causes an error, "COMMAND 0" displays a report
  since system startup (closes: #475707);
+ Option -S added to sadc, which replaces previous options -I or -d. Existing
 defaults file should be updated.
  * Standards-Version: 3.8.0 (no changes).
  * Merge the following change from Ubuntu:
- remove call to execvp() as it's not needed and has potential

2008-11-19 Thread Mathias Gug
According to the log files, slapd has been successfully installed twice
before the failure. Did you try to compile openldap from source and
installed it in /usr/local before the failed attempt?

[Bug 44194] Re: wpasupplicant doesn't start when the network start

2008-12-01 Thread Mathias Gug
Reopening this bug in wpa_supplicant. It seems that the issue is with
the ifupdown script from wpa_supplicant. If the script cannot be run
early in the boot process it should fail gracefully and leave the
interface unconfigured until the networking init script is run. Could
the wpa_supplicant ifupdown script be run in debugging mode (set -x) to
figure out why it fails?

I've also reverted the udev rules change to wait for the networking init
script to have run. It breaks the boot process as we're trying to
configure network interfaces as soon as they're discovered.

On the wpa_supplicant front, none. However it raises issue with iscsi

I don't know. That's why I suggested to run the ifupdown script in
debugging mode in order to gather more information about the failure. I
don't have access to an environment to do such testing, thus the
suggestion I made in this bug.

Waiting until S40networking is run brings up an issue with iscsi
devices. The current way of handling iscsi devices is to treat them as
local devices by making sure that all iscsi devices are created before
local filesystems are mounted (S35mountall.sh and S30checkfs.sh). That
requires ifupdown scripts to be run as soon as network interfaces are
discovered instead of S40networking.

soren and Keybuk discussed this issue [1] (16:40 - 16:49). Their
proposal is to fix the ifupdown scripts so they work early in the
process. In the case of open-iscsi, the iscsi utilities had to be moved
from /usr/{bin/sbin} to /bin,/sbin.

If this is not possible ifupdown scripts should exit gracefully so that
the network interface is left unconfigured and will be configured later
by S40networking.

I've discussed this issue with dustin and soren on irc [2] (16:16):

[2] http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2008/11/20/%23ubuntu-server.txt

soren's point is that delaying network interface configuration to
S40networking is too late in the boot process and against what Ubuntu
has been trying to achieve with the boot process.

Although the udev rule changes fixes the issue encounter with
wpa_supplicant it breaks the iscsi use case (and other network devices
such as nbd). I've thus reopened this bug to track its status in jaunty.
If you think a new bug should be filed let me know.

[Bug 300033] Re: package slapd 2.4.11-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2008-12-04 Thread Mathias Gug
As pointed out by Adam, slapd is looking for libraries in
/usr/local/lib/. Your compilation and installation of openldap from
source put libraries and binaries in /usr/local/ which takes precedence
over system installed ones. Try to remove the locally compiled version
of openldap and update the library cache. It should fix your system
installed package.

[Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't

2009-05-12 Thread Mathias Gug
** Description changed:

  --Impact--
I'm running mythtv on jaunty with mysql-server-5.0 version
5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu5. During boot mysql starts, then mythtv starts,
then mysql restarts and mythtv gets confused.

This is caused by some portions of a debian patch that is applied on top
of MySQL. It has not been accepted yet at upstream MySQL. The MySQL
server is receiving a SIGHUP which the behavior is changed because of
  the debian patch.

Here are some relevant syslog sections:

Note that mysqld_safe is finds one mysqld process still running after it
is supposed to have crashed. mysqld_safe then kills that process and
starts another. This only seems to happen once during boot - it doesn't
keep restarting mysqld in normal use.

  --Addressing--
This has *not* yet been addressed in the karmic branch, but it has been
verified that a PPA resolve the problem. MySQL hasn't changed yet in karmic,
so this can easily be brought to karmic if viewed to properly solve the problem.

- --Test Case - Myth
- To reproduce this, you can boot up off of a fresh install of Mythbuntu 9.04
(which includes MySQL and mythtv-backend preinstalled). Check /var/log/syslog
and you will see errors regarding mysql getting restarted because of a hanging
process. Depending on the speed of your system, this may or may not cause
problems with mythtv-backend because of the race condition inherent in this
problem.
+ The problem comes from the fact that mysqld_safe starts mysqld and then
+ waits for its crash. However installing a trap for SIGHUP makes the wait
+ command return immediately when a SIGHUP is received by mysqld_safe.
+ This mysqld_safe proceed to kill the remaining mysqld process (which
+ hasn't crashed). The proposed fix is to add a wait command to the trap.

- -- Test Case - non-Myth
- sudo killall -HUP mysqld_safe # should cause mysql to reload its
config, but causes it to restart instead.
+ -- Test Case
+ 1. Install mysql-server-5.0 and watch the log. Record the PID of mysqld.
Issue a status command to see how many flush tables have been done:
+ $ sudo /usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf status
+ Uptime: 36 Threads: 1 Questions: 1 Slow queries: 0 Opens: 12 Flush tables: 1
Open tables: 6 Queries per second avg: 0.028
+
+ 2. From a terminal:
+ sudo killall -HUP mysqld_safe
+
+ 3.
+ a. WIthtout the patch: mysqld_safe reports that a mysqld process is stuck,
kills it and restarts it. This can be verified by checking that mysqld has new
a PID.
+ b. With the patch: mysqld is *not* restarted. mysqld has the same PID. Only
the refresh command is sent to mysqld. This can be verified by checking that
the number of flush tables has been incremented by one.

  --Regression Potential--
- This type of patch has implications if users were dependent on the behavior
of this debian/ubuntu specific patch to issue a mysql refresh via a SIGHUP.
+ There isn't any change in behavior. Signals are still handled the way they
were before.

+--exec $DAEMON -- $OPTARGS --writepid /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
+$DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
+--config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf || STATUS=1
 }

Ubuntu used to modify the way the daemon were started:

+STATUS=0
 # Check to see if it's already started...
 if test -e /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid ; then
log_failure_msg "Already running (PID file exists)"
- STATUS=0
 else
   $DAEMON $OPTARGS --writepid /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
- $DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
- --config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf || STATUS=1
+ $DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
+  --config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf $script_security < /dev/null || STATUS=1
 fi
+log_end_msg $STATUS

However in the proposed merge, the old Debian behavior is restored:

-start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --oknodo \
---pidfile /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
---exec $DAEMON -- $OPTARGS --writepid /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
-$DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
---config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf || STATUS=1
+STATUS=0
+# Check to see if it's already started...
+if test -e /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid ; then
+ log_failure_msg "Already running (PID file exists)"
+else
+ $DAEMON $OPTARGS --writepid /var/run/openvpn.$NAME.pid \
+ $DAEMONARG $STATUSARG --cd $CONFIG_DIR \
+  --config $CONFIG_DIR/$NAME.conf $script_security < /dev/null || STATUS=1
+fi
+log_end_msg $STATUS

Could the Ubuntu changes be ported to the new way Debian uses to start
daemon?

This is a setting set in /etc/mysql/my.cnf. You should be able to update
the language option in the file to point to
/usr/share/mysql-5.1/mysql/english/.

2009-06-17 Thread Mathias Gug
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

I haven't been able to reproduce your issue by disabling apparmor.
According to the apt log files:

As you can see /home/jean-claude/mysql is no longer part of the new profile,
which explains why mysql fails too start. Having the dpkg-old file means that
there has been a prompt about a modified configuration file during a package
update. Depending on the answer the locally modified file may have been
overwritten.

Please update your apparmor profile to take into account the custom
datadir location and mysql should start working again. Thus I will mark
this bug invalid.

[Bug 328874] Re: getent group crashes winbindd on domain controller

2009-06-19 Thread Mathias Gug
For successful verification two things need to be done:

1. make sure that the patch fixes the bug.

This can be considered done as mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/328874/comments/10.

2. make sure no regressions are introduced.

Considering that the code change is in winbindd, the proposed package should be
tested in winbbind environment. Access to a Windows NT/200x PDC is needed.
Configuring a system to use winbindd (pam+nss) to authenticate users from the
NT domain would be a successful test.
See http://us6.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/winbind.html for
more information.

Another pointer for regression testing is to get the package through the
qa-regression-testing tests from samba - although it doesn't cover
winbindd (yet):

[Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't

2009-06-19 Thread Mathias Gug
Thanks to the careful and detailed analysis of Stephane in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=527623, it seems that
there are two issues:

==
SIGHUP, SIGQUIT, SIGINT ignored after package installation

After an apt-get install SIGHUP (as well as SIGQUIT and SIGINT) is
ignored by mysqld_safe. This is due to the fact that apt blocks SIGHUP,
SIGQUIT and SIGINT which is propagated to dpkg, the maintainer shell
scripts, the mysql init shell script and finally mysqld_safe (a shell
script). However SIGTERM is not.

What are the consequences? A mysql refresh command cannot be sent to
mysqld by sending a SIGHUP to mysqld_safe.

Since SIGTERM is not ignored mysqld_safe can properly shutdown mysqld.

It seems that this issue is not related to the bug described here and
new bug should be opened instead.

===
SIGTERM may be ignored when bash is the default shell (/bin/sh)

If /bin/sh points to bash (not the default configuration), SIGHUP (and
other signals) will *always* be ignored by mysqld_safe after the first
SIGHUP has been sent to mysqld_safe. This is a change in behavior
brought by the new upload.

The consequences are similar to the ones mentionned above with the added
case that SIGTERM will also be ignored. While this is more problematic,
it should be noted that the mysql init script tries *first* to shutdown
mysqld via mysqladmin, and uses SIGTERM on mysqld (and not mysqld_safe)
if it fails, and then SIGKILL on mysqld (and not mysqld_safe) if SIGTERM
fails.

Before the upload the behavior was that on every SIGHUP (regardless of
the shell), mysqld_safe would kill mysqld (via SIGKILL) and restart
mysqld. Since mysqld was killed with SIGKILL a proper shutdown was *not*
done, which could lead to data corruption.

The proposed upload removes a potential data corruption for mysqld
except in the case where bash is used as the default shell (/bin/sh).

In this non-default configuration (bash as the default shell):

  * sending a SIGHUP to mysqld_safe would lead to:
- before (ubuntu10): mysqld killed with SIGKILL and restarted (potential
data corruption)
- after (ubuntu10.2): refresh the first time, nothing on subsequent
signaling.
This is the bug reported here and the upload provides an improvement.

  * sending a SIGTERM to mysqld_safe would lead to:
- before (ubuntu10): proper shutdown of mysqld
- after (ubuntu10.2): proper shutdown of mysqld if no SIGHUP has been sent
before, nothing if a SIGHUP has already been sent to mysqld_safe.
This is a regression.

However it should be noted that the mysql init script doesn't send
signals to mysqld_safe when stopping mysql and is run before the
sendsigs script during the system shutdown process (rc6).

You can run the following commands from a terminal:

To test:

 1. install the samba-client package
 2. try to connect to the remote system from the command line:

smbclient //remote_system/share_name

If the share requires a specific username/password, try using the "-U"
parameter (for example, use "-U ntdomain\\user").

According to the mysqld apparmor profile, /home/mysql is not included.
However datadir is set to /home/mysql in datadir.cnf. You need to update
mysqld apparmor profile to allow access to /home/mysql/.
