[Bug 242233] [NEW] /etc/apt/sources.list error setting Argentina Country

2008-06-22 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

1)8.04
2)any package
3)Install package via "apt-get install package-name"
4)No installation package

I just install Ubuntu server 8.04, and I set "Argentina" as my country
during the installation process.

No any packaes can be installed via "apt-get install packages-name". I
receive a message that the packages (any package I try) as been obsolet
or removed.

I note that the file "/etc/apt/sources.list" make the references with a
"ar" at the beginning like: "http://ar..mmm.zzz"; as the locations or
URL.

I reinstall using "United State" as country location and installations
via "apt-get install" are working well.

IT does not happend with older verions of Ubuntu server. I did not
verify seting other countries.

marcelo

[Bug 347718] [NEW] DNS PROBLMEMS

2009-03-23 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I am a member of the Ubuntu Uruguay community . In www.ubuntu.org.uy
many users are asking how to connect the 3G modems in order to use the
services of the local ISPs: ANCEL - CLARO - MOVISTAR. The network
manager wizard lets you configure the connection graph for the local ISP
but can not navigate because DNS does not work. The network manager
overwrites /etc/resolv.conf and delete the DNS or put bad DNS and not
work. I hope this will be resolved for Ubuntu 9.04 because many new
users are not able to run modems and desist from using Ubuntu.

Thank you,

networ manager erase or change the DNS by others that do not work. The
only way to fix it is to manually enter the DNS in / etc / resolv.conf
and then make a chattr + i / etc / resolv.conf. The connection
parameters are fine, the problem is that the program deletes the DNS
previously seted with the graphic wizard.

[Bug 50897] wireless driver hangs for a bit missing data packets (ex: during ping)

2006-06-24 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

I have 4 Laptops with Ubuntu 6.06; two working 100% fine (they get 100%
replies from ping):

Machine 1- Compaq R4000 (AMD64 but intalled i386) working 100% with
experimental driver for broadcom.

Machine 2- Thinkpad T41p works 100% fine with ipw2200.

Working so so showing the problem:
Machines 3 and 4: Toshibas M50-MX2 with Atheros AR5005G

See Forum: "[wireless] Ubuntu 6.06 - packetloss using wireless"

Debian seems that also shows that problem:

For my Toshiba M50-MX2 with Atheros AR5005G traffic hangs for 5 to 10 seconds
(packets are lost) and than it recovers by itself. Browsing gets a little
irritated as it gets stuck for every two or 3 pages loaded. ping shows this
probrem very well (30 to 40 % of UDPs are lost.
there is no report in "dmesg".

[Bug 209162] Re: dbus seems to crash on resume after suspend taking networkmanager and pidgin with it

2008-04-07 Thread marcelo
In my case, I have pidgin crashing everytime I resume from suspend.
When I resume, however, the network manager is working fine.

The case when the network manager is NOT fine is when I have a panel
crash, e.g. the one with adding more locations to the clock. It is known
that there is a bug that crashes the panel when the user tries to add a
location from the list. Well, when I have the crash-from-the-location,
and the panel crashes, the network manager disappears. Everytime the
panel crashes in this way, I keep losing the network manager.

[Bug 214622] [NEW] Can not change username in users-admin

2008-04-09 Thread marcelo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

[Hardy Beta] I am trying to change my username. I go to System -> Admin
-> Users and Groups, unlock it with the sudo password, click on my user
and go to Properties.

When I get to the properties of my user, the username field appears in
gray and not available to be modified. The rest of the fields are open
to modification, but I need to change my username and it is not possible
like this.

I am reporting this as a bug because I also had to change my username on
my Gutsy installation, and it worked without problem, the username field
was open for modification and I simply changed it. Under Hardy, the
username field is not available to be modified.

I have gnome-system-tools updated as of today April 9th which is
2.22.0-0ubuntu7.

[Bug 214622] Re: Can not change username in users-admin

2008-04-09 Thread marcelo
Thanks for the replies.
To clarify the subject: I do not want to change the username as in $home. Just
want to change the login name to the session.
For example: under Gutsy, I originally had username "marcelo" with login name
"marcelo". My home directory is /home/marcelo.
To enter gnome in gdm I had to use login name "marcelo". For practical reasons,
I had to change my login name to "mespinoz" which is the login name I have in
my other computer in the office. So I went to System->Admin.> Users and groups,
and change the login to "mespinoz", buit the home directory is still
/home/marcelo and the group is "marcelo" and so on.
I wanted to do the same in Hardy, and I can not do it.
I simply want to change the login name to the session, not the home directory
or the group. Under Gutsy it went very easy.

[Bug 137418] Feisty 7.04 synaptic or apt-get not working behind firewall

2007-09-04 Thread marcelo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 in my computer at work. The computer is
behind a internet firewall (http://9.9.9.9:3128).
The problems was:

I have to log into the proxy server using a DOMAIN + username + server +
port

Ive tried to configure in this ways:
  - Menu : system > preferences > proxy
  - Synaptic: preferences > proxy server > proxy http [9.9.9.9 + 3128] +
authentication [ DOMAIN\username + password]
  - Exporting the string http+proxy to the environment

Nothing was working. In all cases, was returning: 407 Proxy
Authentication Required

But in last search, i found the package
http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/web/ntlmaps

This is a local proxy that listen in a local port (in my case: 1080)
that connects to proxy 9.9.9.9:3128 using NT authentication (DOMAIN +
USER + PASSWORD)

But after installing the package using the link above, i need to follow
these steps:

%%%

1 - Change the file /etc/ntlmaps/server.cfg using the following
parameters:

LISTEN_PORT: 1080
PARENT_PROXY: 9.9.9.9
PARENT_PROXY_PORT: 3128
NT_DOMAIN: DOMAIN
USER: myuser
PASSWORD: mypasswsord

#Note: NT_HOSTNAME is empty!

2 - Change the file /usr/share/ntlmaps/main.py. The last parameter of
the calling of function findConfigFileNameInArgv was changed:

conf =
config_ntlmaps.read_config(config_ntlmaps.findConfigFileNameInArgv(sys.argv,
'/etc/ntlmaps/'))
#note the fixed string '/etc/ntlmaps/'

3 - Execute the following command in a terminal:
export http_proxy=127.0.0.1:1080

4 - Execute another command to restart the ntlmaps server:
/etc/init.d/ntlmaps stop
/etc/init.d/ntlmaps restart

%%%

Finally i could use my apt-get via terminal.

Best regards!

[Bug 186382] Re: [nvidia 169.xx] gtk window decorator somtimes draws decoration ugly or not at all

2008-04-03 Thread marcelo
I confirm that I have been able to fix the "pink shadows" issue with the
following sequence of actions today:

- update kernel to 2.6.24-14
- uninstall nvidia-glx-new (sudo apt-get remove nvidia-glx-new)
- install NVIDIA installer 169.12 WITH kernel modules (tried first without
modules, it does not work)

after this, shadows are now black and consistent.

I think the kernel update was the key, becase I had tried before with
the NVIDIA installer with no success.

I have exactly the same problem described by the OP on a VAIO VPCF111FB. Before
kernel 2.6.32-19, the touchpad was detected as if it was a wheel mouse.
Touchpad options in kcm-touchpad were grayed out (disabled), but it worked all

[Bug 554297] Re: Hal FDI shmconfig missing alps touchpad

2010-04-10 Thread Marcelo
Before Lucid Beta1 (or Beta2, I'm not sure), my alps touchpad was detected as a
ps/2 mouse. It worked ok, including scrolling, but I couldn't fine tune it
using KDE System Settings, because it reported no touchpad was detected and
related configuration options were grayed out.
Now I'm running Lucid Beta2 and KDE System Settings reports there is an
AlpsPS/2 ALPS touchpad connected. Configuration options are enabled, but non
seem to work. I can't get scrolling working anymore. Maybe it is related to the
problem reported in this bug?

[Bug 412730] Re: Printer Applet infinite notification: Printer may not be connected

2009-09-26 Thread Marcelo
I have this problem also, but my printer applet is not unresponsive. I can
delete the job from it.
The cups error log at the print server shows the following:

E [27/Sep/2009:01:07:02 -0300] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized
E [27/Sep/2009:01:22:18 -0300] encrypt_client: Unable to encrypt
connection from 192.168.0.1!
E [27/Sep/2009:01:22:18 -0300] encrypt_client: A TLS fatal alert has
been received.

I have noticed that the URI for the auto-configured printer is
ipp://w.x.y.z:631/... and this is what is not working. If I manually
configure a network printer using a URI like ipp://w.x.y.z/... (omitting
the port), it works. However, this is a bad workaround for me, because
the cups server IP address is dynamic and eventually changes. The auto-
configured printer does not work.

I solved this problem.

The problem was a pidgin plug in for lastfm service, it generates a
conflict with rhythm box last plug in.

"pidgin-lastfm" is the plug in that originated this problem.

[Bug 466105] [NEW] Sound fails in KDE 4.3.2 + pulseaudio when a sound is played before another finishes

2009-10-30 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: phonon

When a sound is played by a KDE application (KDE system notifications included)
before another sound finishes playing, the second one almost always fails. It
may simply not be played, or it can produce random noises, or it can interrupt
the sound that was playing before.
Pulseaudio is installed and is set as the preferred device for all sound
sources in Systemsettings and xine backend is being used.
The sound card is a Turtlebeach Santa Cruz (Sound Fusion CS46xx).
This did not happen in Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.2.x.

[Bug 466105] Re: Sound fails in KDE 4.3.2 + pulseaudio when a sound is played before another finishes

2009-10-31 Thread Marcelo
Also, sound is cracking and glitching when playing music/videos and loud noises
often remain echoing after finishing playing sounds. Sometimes music/video
playback is mute until I pause and continue the playback.
The microphone also stopped working after the upgrade to 9.10.
I can hear the microphone if I uncheck "Mute" in the mixer, but can't record
any sounds with it (skype, audacity, qarecord and other applications that
record from the microphone will not "hear" it). Capture is checked both in the
microphone and in the capture channels of the mixer.
These problems occur with KDE and non KDE applications (like skype, audacity
and mplayer), so it is not a phonon/KDE problem as I had previously though.

[Bug 1318090] Re: Bluetooth will not pair with Lenovo Bluetooth Keyboard

2019-08-08 Thread Marcelo
I get it resolved this way in my Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS. I followed up the
link posted before by cbsuh in the first comment but I can show you how
to pair it quickly and safe:

Be sure you have the tool hcidump installed. If don't, sudo apt install
bluez-hcidump

Run hcitool scan and search for your device.
In my case:
hcitool scan
Scanning ...
XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX ThinkPad Compact Bluetooth Keyboard with
TrackPoint

Next, run "sudo hcidump -at | grep -i passkey" and wait till you see the
line with the passcode you'll have to enter with your keyboard and press
enter.

Now, go to your Bluetooth devices list (when you see your device
listed), and after select it, choose Setup, Pair device and Next (in the
dialogue)

After a few seconds later, you will see the passcode number so enter it quickly
and press Enter. You have to slide the lid of the right several times to put
the keyboard in Discoverable mode.
For me, it did not work at first time, but yes at the second time.

In my case:
sudo hcidump -at|grep -i passkey
bdaddr XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX passkey 159066

The command prints out a lot of output, so with the grep you only pay
attention to what's important.

And, now it's paired.

[Bug 1660027] [NEW] Kernel Problem: Incorrectly detected the touchpad in Acer Aspire E5-574

2017-01-28 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

I have a Acer Aspire E5-574-592s and my touchpad is not working with
Ubuntu 16.04.

I followed this procedure:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#generalinfo

Section: "In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from
the Touchpad)"

I checked by connecting an external mouse to see if that works or not.
And it worked.

So I followed the step 2: If yes, execute at a terminal:

[Bug 1577257] [NEW] Styllus buttons can not be configured on wacom tablet

2016-05-01 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

The functions assigned to a wacom tablet's stylus buttons using SystemSettings
-> Input Devices -> Tablet (translated from portuguese, names in english might
not be exactly those) are ignored by the system and buttons 2 and 3 always
produce a left-click. Everything else about the tablet works fine (pressure
sensitivity, assigning functions to the tablet's express buttons, etc.).
If xserver-xorg-input-wacom-lts-wily is removed, the wacom tablet is not
detected as a tablet anymore (as expected) and does not show up in
SystemSettings -> Input Devices -> Tablet, but it can still be used as a mouse
and, in this case, the stylus buttons work as middle-click and right-click.
I'm running Kubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (fresh install) with the kubuntu backports PPA
enabled. KDE Version is 4.14.13.
The wacom tablet is a Intuos Pro Small (PTH-451).
xserver-xorg-input-wacom-lts-wily version is 1:0.30.0-0ubuntu3~trusty1.

I have just found out that I can boot 10.10 from a USB stick on the VAIO
VGN-P688 if I enable the acpi=off option. This was not required to
install 9.10 on this computer.
