[Bug 395116] [NEW] Pidgin massive synchronization notifications halt metacity
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity How to reproduce the bug: 2 computers ( one with ubuntu using metacity - 1 MSN account ) - Add on MSN account as many contacts as you can. Probably 200-300 contacts. This account is set up in Pidgin and works perfectly on one computer. The contacts are stored on the local contact list and the server as well. - Disable the account on the first computer, and log in via Pidgin on another computer. The system should retrieve contacts from the server and add them to the local list. - While logged in, on the second computer, delete all the contacts of the specific account. Log out. - Go back to the first computer and log in. Now Pidgin will pop up one synchronization notification for every contact that is on the local contact list of the first computer, but not on the server; asking whether the contacts on the local contact file should be sent back to the server. - The user has to click YES or NO for every single window. There is no option for massive accepting or refusal. - After 25 or so notification pop ups at the same time (the user has no opportunity to click so fast, so that's going to happen for sure), the graphical environment will stop responding. - Problem can be solved temporarily by logging into the console and killing pidgin - Problem can be solved permanently when deleting the local contact database, so that Pidgin doesn't worry about the contacts syncing (or might there also be an option in Pidgin preferences, no idea) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/pidgin Package: pidgin 1:2.5.7-1ubuntu1~pidgin3.8.10 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: pidgin Uname: Linux 2.6.27-14-generic i686 UnreportableReason: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package ** Affects: pidgin Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Pidgin massive synchronization notifications halt metacity https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/395116 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 175227] Re: 2.6.22-14-rt halts during boot on some computers, without the nosmp noapic nolapic kernel options
Yes. Using just the NOAPIC option doesn't solve anything, computer halts as described above, unless keys are pressed. I forgot to keep a log of that, if you need it let me do it. Using just the nosmp option, causes a lot of errors, mainly "Unable to locate IOAPIC for GSI 10" also for GSI 11, 16 . Then "hda lost interupt" and then it doesn't mount the root file system and gives me a commandline which I can't do much within. Using just the NOLAPIC option, boots quiet fast, but when the X boots, it gives an error message "Failed to initialize HAL" and then no ethernet, no wireless working etc. I attach the logs concerning the nolapic boot. ** Attachment added: "dmesg-nolapic.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10829118/dmesg-nolapic.log -- 2.6.22-14-rt halts during boot on some computers, without the nosmp noapic nolapic kernel options https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175227 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I detected the error one month ago, on Ubuntu Edgy amd64. Let's say I have a website on an FTP server. I used the (gnome) 'Places > Connect to server' menu to connect to my server as FTP. I got a nautilus window displaying remote files, and I also opened a window with the local files. Then I copied and pasted the files from my local folder to the remote server . The files to be uploaded already existed on the remote server, so there were 198 files all to be replaced by their new versions. It asked me: Files exist. Replace them? I selected yes to all... And then. The stupid, look at what it did: It popped up a window saying "preparing transfer". Then it deleted all the old files first, while preparing the transfer, and AFTERWARDS started putting the new version of theirs one by one. The result was that the site was more or less down for two hours and about two hundred of visitors got a file not found error (it is a popular site). ** Affects: gnome-vfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Gnome-vfs FTP file transfer : wrong order replacing files on a remote FTP server https://launchpad.net/bugs/84469 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry. This was a mistake, it refers to what happens in my network settings panel, as described in #77256. What you asked is the following: - Right click on the NM icon, on the taskbar - Enable wireless connection - When I click on the icon of NM, I get the tag of "Wireless Networks", but there are no networks below it, but the menu separator. At the same moment, the 'iwlist scan' command lists plenty of networks - Then there are two options, 'Connection to another wireless network' and 'Create another wireless network'. [Bug 77101] Realtec HD soundcard cannot record
Public bug reported: using Ubuntu Edgy, on a three-months old laptop ACER 5102, AMD64 x2. My sound card is detected by Windows as Realtec HD. I have the following problems in Linux * Right balanced sound! When Ubuntu starts, only the right speaker works. If I go to the mixer and play with the balance, after two or three times I move the bars, the sound gets balanced to both speakers. I tried to solved this, but using a rexima command in one of the scripts, but it was the one that works only when I get into the terminal. I will have to find the init script that works when I get to gnome * The worst problem is this one: I can't get sound in! Microphone and line in gives no input to programs such as Audacity, Ekiga etc, so I have to log in to Windows in order to make recordings and talk to VoIp phone. If this helps, Windows appears to recognise the sound card as TWO devices. [Bug 1005174] Re: HUD Service high CPU usage with Firefox
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 968533 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968533 The issue is still active and it is not a duplicate. I confirmed with Firefox 23 on Ubuntu 12.10. Lately the unity menu integration does not come as an addon. So, the previous solution (to disable that if ones has high CPU load) does not work. I found another solution, which is not optimal, but solves the problem to a certain usable extent. The problem was that there were hundreds of bookmarks in the bookmarks menu and the bookmarks toolbar. Some of them were dynamic RSS bookmarks, which means that they kept growing by the time. So HUD had to index all these bookmarks. The solution was to move all the useless bookmarks from the bookmarks menu to the "unsorted bookmarks". The latter do not appear in the menu and therefore do not have to be indexed by HUD. After I did this, still HUD requires a little bit of loading, but it is much faster and, most important, does not halt the entire system. I still believe there is an issue with HUD here: the entire adventure with the hundred features indicates to me that HUD's indexing is sub-optimal: it keeps re-indexing the same things that have already been indexed before, probably there is no (sufficient) caching or so. Another possibility could be a limit on the number of the bookmark items being indexed by HUD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1005174 Title: HUD Service high CPU usage with Firefox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-appmenu/+bug/1005174/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1027539] Re: Lubuntu installer crashed on installing grub
During the installation, the installer suddenly asks "Choose a different device to install the bootloader on" suggesting /dev/sdb (which is actually the USB stick). Before the user has a chance to respond, there is another dialog "Installation is complete. You need to restart the computer in order to use the new installation". which is actually covering the dialog before. If you grub and move the restart dialog, you get this strange window effect. ** Attachment added: "IMG535.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1027539/+attachment/3232270/+files/IMG535.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1027539 Title: Lubuntu installer crashed on installing grub To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1027539/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1027539] Re: Lubuntu installer crashed on installing grub
So, let's say you know that /dev/sda is the right partition to go ahead with, this is what you get " Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' has failed. This is a fatal error". The same happens if the user choosed /dev/sdb as well. Computer is unusable after a possible restart. ** Attachment added: "second Screenshot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1027539/+attachment/3232271/+files/IMG536.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1027539 Title: Lubuntu installer crashed on installing grub To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1027539/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1320020] Re: [Inspiron 1470, Realtek ALC272, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all
Same here. Just installed Ubuntu 14.x LTS to avoid issues with my Broadcom 43142 (I tried Fedora first. This is a less-than-a-week old Asus X555LN that had W8.1 installed from factory and completely removed from the Hard Drive. * Secure Boot has been disabled. * No dual boot here. * Sound worked fine in Windows 8.1, Fedora 22 (unfortunately, WLAN did not and that's why I decided to try this Ubuntu LTS) and Windows 7 (I decided to try W7 just to do a Dual Boot but then I desisted and installed Ubuntu). * Sound works fine through headphones. * Toggling between speakers and headphones does not resolve the issue. * doing $ alsa force-reload does not resolve the issue. * Disabling auto-mute via $ alsamixer does not resolve the issue. $ lspci | grep Audio shows 00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT HD Audio Controller (rev 0b) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Lynx Point-LP HD Audio Controller (rev 04) $ pulseaudio shows E: [pulseaudio] pid.c: Daemon already running. E: [pulseaudio] main.c: pa_pid_file_create() failed. Still looking for any additional information/entries at forums/tuts to try. Please advise if this thread will be followed up on and if we can expect any resolution.
