I am also having this problem ("failed to copy vbios to system memory"),
and I tried all four kernel options recommended above. It is worth
mention that I have a hybrid graphics system on my Sony Vaio Z series.

Note, in my xorg.conf, when I want to test the nvidia, I switch identifiers.
The intel card seems to work fine.

The title of this bug exactly describes the bug I am having but the description refers to the dodge functionality. Gabe's comment is the bug I am seeing. This behavior is not a duplicate of bug #928719. So to be clear here is the bug: I go to System Settings -> Appearance -> Behavior and choose "Auto-hide the Launcher. When I do this the launcher retracts off-screen as it should. When I move the pointer all the way to the left of the screen I see a faint grey "shadow" perhaps 5 pixels wide but the launcher itself never appears. It only appears when I hit the super key. This means that on my laptop, the default setting is a bug. I have an up-to-date Oneiric installed from a daily build after it went beta. I tried to assign a script to the key event read (correctly) as "KbdBrightnessDown" (also "...Up"). After assignment, pressing this key results in the OSD Notify image being displayed just as it was before assignment and my custom action is not called. I am using the 2011 MacBookAir and in this case trying to have said key run my own brightness script as the default action does nothing.
