Just to add some more information to this, if you edit the Wireless Connection you're using and check the "Available to all users" box at the bottom, the network will connect automatically when booting. You still might get asked to unlock your keyring for other applications trying to access it (like Gnome-Do or something else), but the network should connect in the background. [Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly
#2: I agree with what "none" said. The stop button may be useful when you need to stop a nautilus action, but not when you're just sitting there browsing a folder. Ideally the button would be removed and a "stop" button could appear somewhere whenever Nautilus is "working". #3: Despite criticism from others, I agree with David. I think proper icons and tooltips negate the need for space-consuming labels. #4: Definitely agree. I'm looking at David's mockups and I still see icons for "Computer" and "Home". Shouldn't these be removed and both of them placed in the "Places" sidebar on the left? That seems to make the most sense. Or maybe leave the "Home". I also agree with the later assessment? Do many people use the Zoom icons? Couldn't the icons be removed and the actions placed in the View menu? I have a question too. Is there a need for Reload? I feel like everything appears instantaneously in Nautilus. [Bug 95853] Re: Delete file in Nautlus - no warning
Just putting in my 2 cents: Wouter's suggested idea is a fantastic compromise. [Bug 567662] [NEW] Gnome Do memory leak
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-do I did a fresh install of Ubuntu Lucid Beta 2 on my desktop this week and gnome-do has been working, but sometimes after an hour of two of using my computer, I notice things are running slowly. I check my System Monitor to find gnome-do is using up to 1.3 GB of my memory (and growing). I'm attaching the output of gnome-do --debug > do-debug.txt, which I have set up to automatically start when my computer starts. I killed gnome-do when it was using about 450 MB of memory (and slowly growing). I am using a few plug-ins and I wonder if this isn't plug-in related, but I'm not sure. If it matters, I have been using the updated Do Core Team PPA version of gnome-do on this computer before installing Lucid, and the gnome-do version is the same as is in the Lucid repositories I think. I had no problems on 9.10 with the Do Core Team PPA that I'd ever noticed. Please let me know if I can provide you with any more information. [Bug 568161] [NEW] Empathy does not remember previous status
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy I start Empathy and it automatically connects to all my accounts. My status is set to the generic "Available". [Bug 528770] Re: Rhythmbox does not detect Sansa Clip+ (CLIPP or Clip Plus) automatically
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: rhythmbox The Sansa Clip+ (CLIPP or Clip Plus) digital audio player (mp3 player) is not properly detected in Rhythmbox unless a .is_audio_player file is placed in the root of the device. The digital audio player is detected by Nautilus (or hal?) as a USB device. From lsusb: Bus 001 Device 006: ID 0781:74d0 SanDisk Corp. Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect Sansa Clip+ digital audio player 2. Open Rhythmbox 3. Expected: Rhythmbox lists my device in the left pane so that I can add new music to it 4. Observed: Rhythmbox does not detect my digital audio device I have tried adding 0x74d0 to /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi under the Sansa Clip and Sansa Fuze heading (since they are basically all the same player), but this did not solve the problem. I found elsewhere that adding a (blank) .is_audio_player file to the root of the player allows it to be detected by Rhythmbox. This may be a hal or hal-info bug. I also realize this is probably a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/505645 I just made a separate bug report so that I could easily upload apport-bug info. I think this would fall under a papercut. Subscribing them to see what they think. My thoughts: Restart and Shutdown should not bring up a 60 sec timer by default. Something like 10 sec should be default. And more importantly, this countdown should be able to be disabled via a GUI option, somewhere besides gconf. [Bug 371742] Re: Shared folders are not shared after install samba and session restarts
This experience is actually greatly improved in Karmic from what I remember in 9.04. I love that an alert pops up after installing samba informing you that you need to restart your session and it gives you the option to restart. My issue is that even after clicking the "Restart" session button, my session was never logged out or restarted. That warning message just went away, leaving me under the impression that I was ready to go. When I tried to access my share from another Ubuntu machine, I couldn't connect properly (my password continued to come back as "invalid"). Once I manually restarted my session on the original computer (by logging out and back in), I was able to log into the share properly. -- Shared folders are not shared after install samba and session restarts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371742 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 485099] [NEW] F-Spot Edit buttons difficult to find
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: f-spot I've been using F-Spot on and off for a year to import photos from my camera and I never realized that it had the ability to do any sort of editing aside from rotating the image. The reason is that even after double-clicking a photo in F-Spot, the "Edit" buttons that can be used to apply effects and adjust the photo's colors are hidden and can only be accessed by clicking on a drop-down menu on the left and selecting "Edit", where "Tags" is selected by default. If The GIMP is to be removed from the default Ubuntu install and F-Spot is expected to comprise the default image editing abilities of Ubuntu, this usability issue needs to be addressed. I'm not sure if this issue is specific to the Ubuntu version of F-Spot or if it is the default behavior of the application. [Bug 485144] [NEW] gnome-volume-control not respecting "Input" with bluetooth headset attached
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media I'm not entirely sure if this is a gnome-media bug or a pulseaudio bug (or something else), so I'm filing it under both. Here's my situation. I'm on a desktop with a set of regular old headphones/mic. I set everything up in gnome-volume-control and the mic and headphones work great. Then, when I attach a bluetooth headset (which attaches great on Ubuntu 9.10 btw), I'm now able to select my bluetooth headset for input and output. This also works great! The problem I run into is when I try to set gnome-volume-control to use my headphones/mic while the bluetooth headset is still connected to my system. Even though I specify that I want the Input and Output to be from my sound card and not bluetooth, applications receive my bluetooth headset's input. The output still goes to my regular headphones. [Bug 565189] [NEW] Install boot loader chooses wrong drive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity I am attempting to install Ubuntu Lucid Beta 2 on my desktop, where I have 2 hard drives installed sda (a junk drive) and sdb. I currently have Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows XP installed on sdb (also my boot drive in BIOS) with GRUB. When the partition manager came up in Ubiquity, I chose to Erase sdb completely and replace the entire drive with a fresh Ubuntu Lucid partition. This all went as planned (although it was odd that my sda drive was selected by default when the partition manager started, instead of sdb, my boot drive). As I finished up everything in Ubiquity, I checked the "Advanced" button on the final "Ready to Install" screen only to see that it was set up to install GRUB on sda, my non-boot, otherwise untouched drive, and not on sdb, where I was installing Ubuntu. I expected: Ubuntu would install GRUB on the same drive as the rest of the installation or on the drive that's marked as my "boot" drive and leave my sda junk drive alone. This sounds an awful lot like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-1-gnome/+bug/540247 It may be a duplicate. As pointed out in a bug 35876 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/metacity/+bug/35876), this bug appears to be two-fold. 1. [Bug 586174] [NEW] Banshee corrupts certain music files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee I purchased the album Lungs by Florence + the Machine from AmazonMP3. The first time I downloaded it, I tried pyMazon. It worked well, but as I started listening to the album in Banshee, I noticed some noise distortion after I listened to a song or two (sort of like squeeks, listen to attached mp3). I quit Banshee and tried to listen to some of the songs in Totem. The ones that had squeeked in Banshee, also squeeked in Totem, but others that I hadn't played using Banshee worked fine. I thought maybe a file or two had been corrupted during download, so I re-opened Banshee and started playing the rest of the album. Low and behold, some of the songs that had just played fine in Totem now had squeeks in Banshee. When I quit Banshee and opened the same song in Totem, it now had the squeeks there also. Now I started thinking maybe I had *somehow* missed the squeeks the first time listening in Totem and that the entire album had been corrupted somehow during download with pyMazon. Unfortunately, I hadn't had a chance to make a back-up of the files and now they ALL had squeeks in them. Forunately, I got the AmazonMP3 store to re-open the download for me. I deleted the original (now corrupted) album. This time I downloaded using the actual AmazonMP3 installer (for Windows) via Wine (since I can't get AmazonMP3's native downloader to work with Lucid). After re-downloading the album, I made a back-up of the files right away. I started by opening a bunch of the songs individually in Totem and Rhythmbox. They had no squeeks, so I chalked up my problem to a corrupted download from pyMazon. However, today I wanted to listen to the album again, so again I opened Banshee. The first song played fine. The second song (one which I'm confident I had checked in Rhythmbox and Totem just a few days ago) started squeeking. I quit Banshee and opened up the file in Totem, and it squeeked there too!! I then ran md5sums on the original and the back-up of the song that squeeks and a song I'm positive I haven't played yet in Banshee ("09 - Cosmic Love.mp3" is the song that squeeks): jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Music/Amazon MP3/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum "09 - Cosmic Love.mp3" 261ab6c0b58811a41706001c8874f00c 09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Downloads/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum "09 - Cosmic Love.mp3" 00da0f56c209d65ec25fe2397c088a53 09 - Cosmic Love.mp3 jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Music/Amazon MP3/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum "12 - Blinding.mp3" 9280f68424d5d132830b559041ed8ca3 12 - Blinding.mp3 jonat...@jonathan-laptop:~/Downloads/Florence + The Machine/Lungs$ md5sum "12 - Blinding.mp3" 9280f68424d5d132830b559041ed8ca3 12 - Blinding.mp3 What the hell? If you want to hear it, listen to the attached excerpts. I'm using the default Banshee 1.6.0-1 packaged with Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with plugins: application indicator, lyrics, ubuntu one music store, wikipedia, audio cd, audiobooks, file system preview, internet radio, play queue, podcasts, ipod support, karma support, mass storage media player support, mtp media player support, internet archive, last.fm, bookmarks, bpm, cover art, daap, importers for amarok etc, library watcher, multimedia keys I also have the boxes checked (in Edit->Preferences): Write Metadata to files, Write ratings and play counts to files. Perhaps the problem is related to those 2 boxes? I also think it may have something to do with the "+" symbol in either the Artist ID3 tag or the file path. I have played other music in Banshee in the last couple of days and this seems to be the only album affected that I've found. Regardless, I definitely think this is a major bug. Please let me know what more information I can provide. My Banshee application also intermittently starts to freeze/hang occasionally. I think it was actually doing that when I was playing one of the songs that ended up getting squeeks in it earlier. It looks like perhaps it's working on my 9.10 installations because I've already changed it from Tags -> Edit in the dropdown menu and just left it there. That menu remembers the selection even after F-spot is closed. My concern was with the default 10.04 installation. As I just ran F-spot for the first time in Lucid and the "Edit" menu is automatically displayed, that's all I really wanted. From what you're saying, it also looks like this is the case with 9.10. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store The music I purchase should be easily accessible from my computer to back up and move around however I please via Nautilus. Currently the only way to access the mp3 files is to go to the web version of Ubuntu One or to look in my .local folder, where many new users will not know to look (nor should they have to go searching in dot-folders to find music they just purchased). This is a significant problem for new users who are not familiar with Ubuntu One's web interface (or those who do not know they can look their to find their music). [Bug 540056] Re: "Switch off" is not valid en_US
I think "Power Off" or "Power Down" would be much better descriptions than "Switch Off". "Turn off" would also work, but it's a bit colloquial. "Turn Off..." would also be kind of weird without the word "computer" or some other descriptive noun afterwards. I feel the word "Power" reminds the user that they'll be shutting their computer completely off. Agreed that "Switch Off" just sounds odd (to me it sounds very European/British) and it will not translate well, at least to U.S. users. -- "Switch off" is not valid en_US https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540056 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 544626] [NEW] "Browse" button on "My Downloads" page redirects to 7digital home page
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox-ubuntuone-music-store When viewing the "My downloads" page in the u1ms in rhythmbox, clicking the "Browse" link at the top u1ms navigation bar will load the normal 7digital home page. The only way to get back to the u1ms is to right click and select "Back". I tried several other combinations, and this appears to be the only one that gets you to the 7digital home page. [Bug 544452] Re: Can't return to Ubuntu One Music Store from 7Digital
Did you try right clicking on the page and clicking back? I mean it's not a solution, but it will at least help you get back... -- Can't return to Ubuntu One Music Store from 7Digital https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544452 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 403135] Re: Notification area icon wrongly rendered/has a black background (multiple apps)
I seem to recall this (or something strikingly similar) being a bug with the murrine engine. [Bug 428249] [NEW] Banshee column sizes are not preserved
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee Every time I open Banshee, the main columns are a different size (specifically it seems the "Music Library" column containing a list of Artists and a list of Albums). I resize them and play my music. When I quit Banshee, and start it up again, the columns are resized again (seemingly to a random size). No one else uses my computer, so it's not an issue of someone changing it. I did notice that if I just quit Banshee, restart it, quit again and restart again, that column seems to be getting progressively wider. I've attached screenshots from when I opened Banshee earlier from Before (Banshee1) and After (Banshee2) I resized the columns (to where I'd like them to stay). ** Affects: banshee (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Banshee column sizes are not preserved https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/428249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
