[Bug 373889] Re: can no longer send files from nokia phones to PC via bluetooth
You can add Nokia 6120 classic to the list. I have the same problem in Hardy as well, though I'm not sure whether it's because of the phone model or because I haven't set bluetooth up correctly. -- can no longer send files from nokia phones to PC via bluetooth https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 373889] Re: can no longer send files from nokia phones to PC via bluetooth
Thanks Ben The relevant line from lsusb is: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode) which is the same as the OP has. Incidentally, if anyone can tell me what I need to get it working in Hardy, I'd be grateful. I'm ok about applying patches and recompiling if that's what it takes. [Bug 373889] Re: can no longer send files from nokia phones to PC via bluetooth
philipp: Mine is already set up that way, and I still can't send files from the phone to the computer. The phone takes about half a second to decide that it can't do it. Ben: Thanks. I'd already discovered that I can browse the phone via bluetooth. Unfortunately, I can't copy files to it using Nautilus (but I can copy *from* the phone with Nautilus). If I use the usb cable, I can copy both ways, but only to the add-on memory card, not the phone's "C drive". [Bug 409559] Re: version 1.6.0_15 is available
The repository version of Firefox gets upgraded each time Mozilla puts out a new one, even on older versions such as Hardy. I think that the same thing should happen with Java. [Bug 568127] [NEW] xserver crashes on EeePC 900 - Lucid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg X runs for a short while (some minutes, sometimes longer, then crashes to a blank screen. Pressing an arrow key reveals a command-line screen. Attempting to run 'startx' gets a message that x is still running. Rebooting is the only remedy. This is a minimal install with Openbox and xdm. Earlier in the development cycle, it was very solid. The upgraded packages were libdrm-intel1, libdrm-nouveau1, libdrm- radeon1, and libdrm2. I removed - downgraded, rather - the first three and kept libdrm2. Just testing 20100427.1 installation. I decided to emulate what a newcomer might do: namely, try to install by double-clicking on the installer icon, find it doesn't work and then try the --no-migration- assistant option. However, if I do that, migration-assistant is still active and can't be killed. Therefore, the installation still chokes on the "unable to unmount" stage. The only way around it is to reboot. [Bug 569952] Re: Cannot disconnect Nokia 6120c in USB mode using "safely remove drive"
The same thing happens with kernel version 2.6.34-rc5. I tried doing "apport-collect" with this kernel running, but Launchpad complains about a non-standard kernel version. ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have successfully used "safely remove drive" to disconnect my Nokia 6120c SD card in Karmic. That was a while ago, after first release. I'm currently running the Lucid RC version with all updates applied. [Bug 524938] Re: Remove binary "opensync-plugin-syncml" from lucid
@Beniamino It's possible, though probably not recommended, to get the Karmic versions of the packages libsoup-2.2, libsyncml0 and opensync-plugin-syncml and install them manually. That's what I've done. I hope that eventually a later version becomes available through backports or a PPA. I don't have the technical expertise to run a PPA, otherwise I might offer to. [Bug 562742] Re: r8169 ethernet MAC address changes in 2.6.32 kernel
After behaving well for a couple of days or so, the mainline kernel has been throwing errors on this over the last several hours, particularly not activating the ethernet chip at all (lights on switch blink slowly). I had noticed that my working ethernet connection was labelled "eth1" instead of "eth0". I altered that in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent- net.rules, removed dhcp3 leases and rebooted. That's when the problem started. Whether that's what caused it, or whether that was a coincidence and a buggy update was the culprit, I have no idea. @Antonio I agree with your comment about the regular user. Even finding the info can be a bit tricky. I was playing with Debian Stable yesterday and I noticed that grub2 in Lucid would not use UUIDs for its menu entries. Lucid also uses /dev/sdX notation. [Bug 524761] [NEW] /etc/environment not being read in Lucid
Public bug reported: When I boot up, the /etc/environment file isn't being read, meaning that the default $PATH variable is very short, and any other items that I've added don't get added to the environment. This is happening on my EeePC 900 which is running Lucid with lxde and openbox. It's not happening on my Toshiba Satellite A10 which is running Xubuntu. Therefore, I suspect that it's something to do with lxde/openbox. My current workaround for this is to add a file, 98environment, to the /etc/X11/Xsession.d directory. Then I removed all lxde elements from the main installation, with the exception of lxterminal, which does not depend on any other lxde files, plus my temporary 98environment script mentioned above. /etc/environment is now being read successfully in this installation as well. [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)
The laptop acquired an extra 512MB of RAM yesterday, and I thought it might be useful to reinstall Xubuntu with all updates and see what happens. Installation method was to install a command-line system first, then install Xubuntu-desktop plus do other updates before rebooting and logging into the Xubuntu desktop. Unfortunately, the system froze twice. The first time after 1-3/4 hours and the second a lot sooner - probably around 30 minutes, maybe less. I've run the laptop for many hours at a time while using lxde/openbox or openbox on its own. I've tried using just the xfce4 package as well and it seems to be fine, though this might need a bit more testing. Therefore, I'm inclined to conclude that one or more of the Xubuntu- desktop components is/are interacting with xserver-xorg-video-intel to cause the freezes. -- [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Geir Lucid is already on the laptop, with lxde and openbox as desktop environments. I can make an image of the installation (so that I can put it back later) and then install Xubuntu-desktop and do some testing. Uptime was 6.5 hours with no freezes. I even turned on Xubuntu's window compositor to see if that would make a difference, and nothing happened. Not being sure that something I'd previously installed was affecting the results, I did a fresh install of Xubuntu and ran another test. Same result. Uptime of nearly 4.5 hours, including some use of the window compositor, and no freeze. I am noticing some visual artifacts: occasional streaking (white background with pixellated colour) and bits being left out of type. I've attached a small screenshot of the latter. Interestingly, the letter affected varies from instance to instance, but when it happens, the same letter is affected universally throughout the page. Often, a screen refresh or scrolling up and down will fix it. I think that the xorg-edgers drivers may be heavier on RAM than the standard ones. ** Attachment added: "visual artifacts with xorg-edgers drivers" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38354447/Screenshot-type.png -- [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Geir Standard Xubuntu Lucid froze after 5 hours of uptime. If it's of any relevance, I was playing Freecell when it happened, and I was trying to move a group of cards from the left-hand-most pile. On previous occasions, this action has caused freezes. I was playing Freecell at various times during the test, so am unclear why it took so long for the freeze to occur. The batchbuffer files are attached. I was unable to get all of them by ssh because trying to get the i915 stuff caused a complete lockup. Further tests: I installed the xorg.conf file from https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447892, comment 41, so as to see what happens if I use the VESA driver. Without the addition of acpi=off to Grub, the laptop hangs at a blank screen with a cursor once it's got past the initial XFCE mouse screen. If I add acpi=off to the kernel line, then it boots completely and behaves much the same as the Intel driver. That is, I still get these unexpected screen blackouts at more or less 3/4 hour to 1 hour intervals. Moving the mouse (usb) does not revive the screen but pressing an arrow key or touching the touchpad does. No data is lost, but it's a bit disconcerting. Crash happens when I have added a .ics file as a "foreign file" and it's on an nfs volume which I have forgotten to mount. If the file gets damaged, then orage will crash even if the file is accessible. If the file is intact and I mount the nfs volume, orage behaves normally. [Bug 524761] Re: /etc/environment not being read in Lucid
@Julien Lavergne I've been experimenting with lightweight installations built up from a command-line install. I have been using lxdm, xdm, qingy and sometimes no login manager. I did some further experimentation, namely installing lxdm with no- recommends on an openbox-only install, and the same problem appeared. I've just found that qingy creates the same or a similar problem, so I've removed it. (I imagine, though, that this would be outside of your area of concern.) So, essentially, the problem of /etc/environment not being read occurs when I have lxde-core/lxde-common or lxdm (or qingy) installed. -- /etc/environment not being read in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 524761] Re: /etc/environment not being read in Lucid
@Julien I need to clarify what I wrote. lxdm can be installed but not the active login manager, and /etc/environment is read correctly. It is only when it is the default/active login manager that the problem arises. -- /etc/environment not being read in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 524761] Re: /etc/environment not being read in Lucid
@Julien These are the results of my own tests: lxdm installed --no-recommends is now allowing $PATH to be read from /etc/environment. lxde-core/common installed with the --no-recommends option is now allowing $PATH to be read from /etc/environment, both with and without lxdm installed. I'm not sure what happened earlier to cause me to think that there was a problem with lxde on its own. I wasn't using fancy login scripts to login without a desktop manager - just "startx". Maybe a stray configuration file that I hadn't removed was the culprit, though that's only a guess. Anyway, all is working properly now. -- /etc/environment not being read in Lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 522375] Re: Lucid: "memory protection from ptrace spying" not enabled?
Update: I downloaded the source code of the latest Gringotts from the developer's site and compiled it on my Hardy box. The same problem occurs: "Memory protection from ptrace spying" is marked with a red button, and overall security level is marked "low". There is no configure option to enable or disable this protection. Therefore, I think we can say that this is an upstream issue. -- Lucid: "memory protection from ptrace spying" not enabled? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 526180] Re: grub-common conflicts with grub-doc
I've noticed the same thing. I'm wanting to install grub in Lucid, because grub2 is too enthusiastic about installing to the MBR when I've already got another Ubuntu install in another partition which uses grub. But when I install grub into Lucid, I still end up with grub2 because of this dependency. I don't see why grub has grub-common as a dependency. It doesn't in Hardy, and yes, grub2 is an option even in the Hardy repositories. -- grub-common conflicts with grub-doc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/526180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)
@Ben Yes, there is a workaround. 1) Add "acpi=off" (without the quotes characters) to kernel line in Grub. It should end like this: acpi=off quiet splash 2)Edit /etc/modules and add a new line: "apm power_off=1" I'm still getting the screen suddenly go blank from time to time, but I restore it by pressing an arrow key or by touching the touchpad. [Bug 477256] Re: [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM)
I'd like to clarify a couple of things, if I may. I think that desktop effects are already turned off. I'm not that familiar with Xubuntu, and I'm just running with the default settings. The compositor is turned off in the Window Manager Tweaks application. Is there something else I need to do as well? I've never had the computer hang if I leave it and do nothing, even when logged in. I seem to have to be doing something active such as scrolling through documents or changing tabs in Firefox. How long would I need to leave inactive it to be sure? So far, the new settings have meant I can actually use the computer for several hours. There is still this mysterious sudden blanking of the screen, but it's not a freeze or xserver crash and touching the touchpad or pressing an arrow key reactivates it. By the way, I had to uninstall the xorg-edgers version of xserver-xorg- video-intel because it wouldn't let me boot with acpi=off. On boot up a rapidly blinking text message would appear and the computer hung. I didn't make a note of it, unfortunately. -- [i855] Xserver freezing on Toshiba Satellite A10 (Intel 82852/855GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I understand that updating is going to cause problems. I have been playing with Debian Testing and I've found that the updated syncML plugin (0.39) doesn't work with the other 0.22 plugins.
