[Bug 867992] Re: Disabling "show menubar by default in new terminals" does not work in gnome-terminal

2011-10-05 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
Unchecking the "Show menubar by default in new terminals" in the profile
setting does not prevent the menubar from appearing when gnome-terminal
is started and only has an effect on whether the "Show Menubar" checkbox
in the context menu is checked by default. That checkbox works properly
to show/hide the application menu when toggled.

[Bug 995018] Re: [needs-packaging] Please include HexChat

2012-08-02 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
I've setup a PPA with packages of HexChat for releases from Natty to Quantal.
Version 2.9.1 is currently available in it.

It is available there : https://launchpad.net/~gwendal-lebihan-
dev/+archive/hexchat-stable

Please let me know if you encounter any issues with it.

2012-08-03 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
@Daniel Gimpelevich : Thanks, for these remarks.
I've included the patch for bug 933822, I'm now reviewing the other patches in
order to include the relevant ones.

About the control file, I think the Provides and Replaces fields should
be added in case HexChat gets included in the official Ubuntu repos. As
long as the package is only available via PPA, I don't think I should
add them.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-18 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
No, compiz is not the default window manager in Mint 12, it's mutter.
More than that, compiz is incompatible with gnome-shell (actually, when using
gnome-shell, mutter is the only window manager you can use, as gnome-shell is a
mutter plug-in).

  TEMPORARY SOLUTIONS #1 by wei2912

This "fix" is meant to prepare your system. Try this "fix" before trying
out the others to make sure if the problem still persists.

First, upgrade your system. If it works, report your graphics card.

  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Simple commands to upgrade all packages. Maybe a fix for a driver of
your graphics card/integrated graphics has been released, and thus you
should try this first to determine if it is a driver-related problem.

If it still doesn't work, get drivers for your graphic cards (If you don
't have additional drivers get those drivers. If you do have additional
drivers uninstall them instead - please state which one you did in the report).

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-01 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
Is anyone not using MGSE and still having this issue ?
I'm trying to figure out whether this is a bug in gnome-shell or in MGSE.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-02 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
I think we need to clearly separate the 2 (at least) different issues
mentioned above :

   1. The crash : when gnome-shell completely crashes, making window
borders disappear and all iteractions with the desktop impossible; in
this case, sometimes gnome-shell automatically reloads, sometimes it
does not => This is the issue this report was originally about

   2. The freeze : when interactions with the desktop become impossible,
but the look of the desktop remains the same; in this case gnome-shell
never reloads (and some interactions are sometimes possible, like
Alt+F2) => This looks to me more like bug #892316

In order to help identifying where the problem comes from, please try to
post your comments on the bug report which seems to be the closest one
to your issue.

Thank you all for your very complete reports on this.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-03 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
@Wei En : I don't think bug #892316 should be merged with this one : my point
precisely was that it is *not* the same bug
On the contrary bug #889703 is for me a duplicate of this one (when panels and
windows decoration disappear, that usually means that gnome-shell has crashed)

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-03 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
In attachment is a patch for *part* of this bug.
I don't think it will prevent all crashes, but it will prevent some of them,
specifically the ones happening when opening the menu (and maybe some others).

Please give feedback and indicate whether you are still experiencing
some crashes (and if so, when). The when part is very important as it is
what helps most in identifying the origin of the problem.

** Patch added: "mgse-menu.diff"

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-04 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
To apply the patch, download the file then open a terminal and go to the
folder where you downloaded the file, then run :

sudo patch /usr/share/gnome-
shell/extensions/m...@linuxmint.com/extension.js mgse-menu.diff

Once it's done, restart gnome-shell.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-04 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
Hmm, weird, I tested and it worked fine.

Another solution then : you'll find in attachment the updated
extension.js file for mgse-menu.

Just replace /usr/share/gnome-
shell/extensions/m...@linuxmint.com/extension.js by this one.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-05 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
@Fibonacci : The bug occurred with the patch applied ? Is there any
specific action you did when it crashed ?

As I said when posting the patch, I don't think it will fix all crashes,
but I need some specific informations on when the crashes occur to be
able to reproduce them and hopefully fix them as soon as possible.

@dmdsoftware : though it is not the only cause of crash, gnome reflexion
seems to cause some issues when used together with MGSE. You may want to
try disabling it.

[Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes

2011-12-05 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
@Dominique Callaert : thanks for the info. Nice to know the patch at
least fixes some of the crashs.

@Fibonacci : I'm not sure what kind of information could be useful right
now. I don't know where the issue can come from, and I personaly do not
experience any crash since I wrote the patch. I'll try to post some
scripts here with some debugging output in order to see if we can
determine if there is a common factor as to when the crashs occur. I'm
starting to think that there maybe a bug in gnome-shell itself (though I
hope there isn't)

[Bug 729490] Re: The update icon missing

2011-11-13 Thread Gwendal LE BIHAN
By design, only one update manager can run at a time.
Even though the icon is not there in every account, you can still launch
mintUpdate manually from the menus.
Also the update icon would be useless in a guest account as it does not have
sudo permissions.
