I don't think Fn+F8 for changing displays is or will be supported. If you
have an nvidia card I suggest you use nvidia-settings to setup your
secondary display.

Only 1MB got freed, Xorg is still eating up 243MB. BTW, my graphics card
has "only" 128 MB, so it cannot be that memory shown as used by Xorg is
actually memory from the graphics card.

Cheers!

Re: [Bug 98783] Re: MASTER: memory leak

2009-01-07 Thread Francisco
The problem is that the people that can work on the problem think that there
is no problem, since measuring memory use is not something easy, and any
badly written app (typically it was flashplayer, but I already tried
disabling it) can leak pixmem. So until somebody of us identify which is the
culprit, and it can be different for any of us, there's no way this is going
to be solved.

The fact is that now my X server is using ~300m and if I quit the session
(all X programs except gdm), it will still be using almost all that memory,
go figure.

Now, you say that with another graphics card you don't have the same
problem, maybe that is the root of all evil, are you using the same version
of the nvidia driver? Most reports have been with nVidia, and since some of
the reports are "false positives" it may well be a driver problem.

I have the same problem (sort of) with intrepid, kernel

[Bug 71697] DPMS monitor off timeout gets multiplied by 60

2006-11-13 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

Steps to reproduce:
open K menu > System Settings > Monitor > Energy
set Turn off monitor after to say, 1 minute (any setting will do)
click Apply
# it will now work for this section
Turn off computer ( maybe only logout will do)
Turn on :)
open K menu > System Settings > Monitor > Energy
see the setting changed to 1 hour (or 60 times whatever you had set)

The ~/.kde/share/config/displayconfigrc is set correctly and does not get
changed.
The displayconfig-restore script works correctly at the very startup of the kde
section. By the end of the startup process, something I was not able to
determine what, changes the xserver setting to 60 times what it was.

[Bug 141498] Re: asus acpi unsuported model

2008-02-12 Thread Francisco
This a bug. Ubuntu is loading the old and deprecated asus_acpi module

A temporary fix would be to add asus_acpi to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist,

[Bug 65791] Re: DPMS timeout restored incorrectly on login

2006-12-05 Thread Francisco
Hi John, greetings for nailing the bug! I wouldn't have the time not
even to try.

By taking a look on the code, it seems the multiply by 60 thing crept in when
they added the capability to get the system settings. The hardwired constants
DFLT_STANDBY, DFLT_SUSPEND and DFLT_OFF are meant to be minutes, so there are
those "60 *" to make then seconds. But the system settings are already in
seconds! So, my fix would be:
 - make those constants mean seconds (multiply then by 60)
 - take out those "60 *" and let it set the timeouts

[Bug 72372] Safely remove does not work if you have ttf files in the device

2006-11-18 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-kio-plugins

If the device has any .ttf (true type font) file for which there has been
generated
a thumbnail, kio_thumbnail keeps hanged to these files and so safely remove does
not work. You can check this with: fuser -v /media//*.
Maybe other file types will trigger the problem, but so far I've seen it only
with ttf files.

[Bug 72372] Re: Safely remove does not work if you have ttf files in the device

2006-11-18 Thread Francisco
After some testing, I see that kio_thumbnail eventually exits after about
7 minutes. Only after that, safely remove work again.

[Bug 468790] Re: Microphone doesn't work anymore after upgrade to Karmic

2009-11-01 Thread Francisco
As I said, there are no capture controls in alsamixer.

Open alsamixer, press F4, nothing shows up, not a single bar or boolean
control.

I'm trying to update alsa-driver to 1.0.21 directly from upstream to see
if it is fixed already. Otherwise I'll have to downgrade.

2009-11-01 Thread Francisco
I am not a sound hacker, but usually Mic is exposed both as playback and
as capture. It used to be like that from feisty to jaunty, at least.

BWT, 1.0.21 is still broken.

I had that package already installed, in fact the bug was generated
against that version. I didn't know it was more recent than the official
stable release. All 3 versions show the same behaviour then.

But again, I tried to make a single compressed file with all I found

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

First: sorry for my poor english.
I did not write down the text on the windows saying that it was impossible to
upgrade because of some errors.
What I can remember is that it will execute "dpkg --configure -a". Also, it
asked me to full e report and include the files in "/var/log/dist-upgrade/" and
thats what I'm doing.
I was using kubuntu 9.04, but when i execute "lsb_release -rd" it says i'm
using ubuntu 9.10.

2009-12-17 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

unos segundos me desconecto.

Solo me pasa
cuando entro a esa página.

[Bug 1264336] [NEW] Change the length of the timeline

Public bug reported:

Hello,

The timeline in Resources actually shows only 60 seconds. I want to be
able to change that (to any value, 10 minutes, 3 minutes, ... whatever).

How can I make that?
That would be a great functionality, please add that.

Regards.

[Bug 1608044] [NEW] wifi not detected

2016-07-30 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

I am having many issues to get Ubuntu 16.04.01 LTS to recognize my
wireless card (Intel 3160). I have reinstalled the OS many times, but I
have the same problem all the time. A couple of days ago, the first time
I installed, it worked, but it just stopped working yesterday, so I
decided to reinstall the whole system (repartition included). I have
Ethernet connection. Please, keep in mind that I am totally newby, so I
don't know how to install a package after downloading it. Thank you in
advance for your valuable help!

[Bug 1608044] Re: wifi not detected

2016-08-01 Thread Francisco
Hi Joseph,

Thank you for your interest and your time! I have just found the
solution thanks to the tip of another user! I have removed the battery
from my laptop and turned it on again. I suppose the BIOS needed to be
reseted... The important thing is that it worked!

Thank you again!
Regards,
Kisko.

[Bug 1636033] [NEW] Graphics driver setback to Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256 bits)

2016-10-23 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

I've been experiencing brightness control issues and I ended up "upgrading" my
graphics driver through Intel Graphics Update Tool for Linux
https://01.org/linuxgraphics. Running their application setback my graphics
driver (previously Intel Ivybridge) to Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256
bits). I've tried several solutions I found on askubuntu and other forums, but
nothing seems to work. Fortunately I stumbled upon your xdiagnose tool and
tried running it. It seems my system is not using hardware acceleration.
I'll be happy to share any additional information you might need for solving
this. I'm including some of my commands from bash_history in a file.
I'm running Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Output to $ apt-cache policy xorg:

[Bug 1180925] [NEW] Audio not working in kernel 3.8.0-21-generic

2013-05-16 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

After an update, I restarted my system only to find that the audio
headphones were not working in latest kernel, 3.8.0-21-generic. I
unplugged them and the integrated speakers were also not working. It's
my first bug to report and I'm not sure how to do this. The bug is
really similar to the stated here: http://askubuntu.com/q/294016/47254
and therefore similar (not sure if equal) to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1169761

However, it has some differences:

When I play anything anywhere, it just does not work. Not audio jack nor
integrated speakers. I followed the instructions in that AskUbuntu
question, choosing an older kernel through the GRUB and now the audio is
working perfectly for me in the kernel 3.8.0-19-generic . In the newer (
3.8.0-21-generic ) it would only list Dummy output in System
Settings->Sound->Output->Play sound through, and not even the "Test
sound" would work.

I know this report is incomplete, please tell me which commands to run
(to write the output here) to check the errors in a basic way. I will
try with HDMI in a few hours when I get back home.

Workaround:

- Reboot and in GRUB select Advanced options (how to boot into grub:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1565450)

- Chose Ubuntu with older kernel

Version: Ubuntu 13.04
Laptop model: Sony Vaio VPCEH13FX
Audio: Intel® High Definition Audio (specs
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/specs/VPCEH13FXL_mksp.pdf )

[Bug 1180925] Re: Audio not working in kernel 3.8.0-21-generic

2013-05-29 Thread Francisco
After upgradint to the latest version, the audio is working.
Furthermore, if I boot in the (now older) kernel 3.8.0-21-generic, I can
listen to the audio now.
