[Bug 260753] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties space backgrounds not available

2008-08-23 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

2) The version of the package you are using:
Installed: 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu4.1

3)What you expected to happen
Expect all images from /usr/share/backgrounds to be available as
possible background options in gnome-appearance-properties.

4) What happened instead
space*.jpg images are not available to be set as backgrounds.

Also placing images in that directory does make them appear for
selection either.

Use case:
Peter runs a small company. He has 3 corporate wallpapers. He wants
to put them in a global folder so that employees can choose one they prefer.

There are a lot of reports of improved performance with using 2.6.30rc
kernels in combination with newer versions of intel drivers from the
x-org edgers PPA's in Jaunty and Karmic.

It was affected on the day of the release, packages from karmic are
*official* and have been backported via PPA and do fix the problem.
Right now it's the waiting time to decided what will qualify for SRU.
It is Ubuntu policy not to include new versions of software after the
release.

Noone forced you to upgrade to Jaunty. Hardy is LTS and still
supported. If you want stable and long-term machine use LTS releases.
If you upgrade on day of the Release well you should expect that not
everything will work as *you* wish it to work. Look how KDE 4.0 worked
out and you have installed Jaunty 9.04.0 - point 0 version!

2009-06-13 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Maybe your pbuilder is out of date? Look at the top of your build-log:

Remove the following packages:
build-essential
g++
g++-4.4
gcc
gcc-4.4
libstdc++6-4.4-dev

Upgrade the following packages:
cpp-4.4 [4.4.0-5ubuntu1 (now) -> 4.4.0-6ubuntu2 (karmic)]
libgcc1 [1:4.4.0-5ubuntu1 (now) -> 1:4.4.0-6ubuntu2 (karmic)]
libgomp1 [4.4.0-5ubuntu1 (now) -> 4.4.0-6ubuntu2 (karmic)]
libstdc++6 [4.4.0-5ubuntu1 (now) -> 4.4.0-6ubuntu2 (karmic)]

dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: build-essential
dpkg-buildpackage: warning: Build dependencies/conflicts unsatisfied; aborting.
dpkg-buildpackage: warning: (Use -d flag to override.)
E: Failed autobuilding of package

And I've just built in in the Karmic PPA and it succeeded on all three
arches. (Same debdiff, just lowered the version number cause it's ppa,
just in case).

[Bug 379533] [NEW] curl-config --libs gives too many libraries

2009-05-22 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: curl

I'm packaging a library (libsword) which uses libcurl.

When I compile my package dpkg-shlibdeps gives me these
warnings that dependency on the following libraries (there are others but they
are irrelevant for this report) could be avoided:

libgcrypt.so.11
libtasn1.so.3
libidn.so.11
libldap_r-2.4.so.2
liblber-2.4.so.2
librt.so.1
libgnutls.so.26
libgssapi_krb5.so.2

I started investigating and found that upstream is using `curl-config --libs` to
figure out link flags. On my system it gives this:

$ curl-config --libs
-lcurl -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt -lgssapi_krb5 -lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls

(No clue why gssapi_krb5 appears twice anyhow...)

I thought that's a bit harsh if I want to link against curl I don't quite
understand why I have to recursively link against all that

So to double check I've looked at the pc file shipped with curl:

$ cat /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libcurl.pc | grep Libs
Libs: -L${libdir} -lcurl
Libs.private: -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt -lgssapi_krb5 -lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls

This got me puzzled. The output from curl-config matches the static-linking
instructions from .pc file.

So I went to look into the curl-config code to see if it is possible to get
output which matches the "Libs:" standza of the pc file (edited $cat
/usr/bin/curl-config):

--libs)

if test "Xyes" = "Xyes"; then
  echo ${CURLLIBDIR}-lcurl -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt -lgssapi_krb5
-lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls
else
  echo ${CURLLIBDIR}-lcurl
fi
;;

--static-libs)
echo ${exec_prefix}/lib/libcurl.a -lidn -llber -lldap -lrt
-lgssapi_krb5 -lgssapi_krb5 -lz -lgnutls
;;

*)

The else condition is never executed so the output always has all those extra
libs.

So if upstream is using curl-config extra libraries are linked and
dpkg-shlibdeps yells at packagers.

If upstream is using libcurl.pc just -lcurl is linked and dpkg-shlibdeps is not
shouting.

IMHO this is a bug in curl-config. If it's not I'll try to figure out how to
switch upstream of my package to use pkg-config for curl.

[Bug 362194] Re: gnomesword2 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

2009-05-24 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Gnomesword is no longer developed. It has been renamed into Xiphos see
xiphos.org

Crosswire packaging team is working on updating Sword, Xiphos, Bibletime
and Bibledit in Debian and Karmic. You can try our packages from the PPA
https://edge.launchpad.net/~pkgcrosswire/+archive/ppa

We have Hardy - Jaunty there.

Please check if the problem persist with Xiphos from the ppa.

[Bug 385053] Re: upgrade-from-grub-legacy writes to MBR even if the instance of grub it is replacing isn't there

2009-07-08 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Confirming.
On macs grub is usually installed on to the partition. Now after running
upgrade-from-grub-legacy i now have 2 grubs one in mbr and the other on the
partition. And it means that I have 2 same linux entries in rEFIt menu now
instead of usual one. I hope this bug will be looked at if
upgrade-from-grub-legacy will be used during Jaunty -> Karmic upgrades cause
all users will not be happy if suddenly they have MBR overwritten or having two
Grubs

[Bug 566776] [NEW] can't install in pbuilder Setting up xulrunner-1.9.2 (1.9.2.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2)

2010-04-19 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xulrunner-1.9.2

I logged into pbuilder

$ apt-get install xulrunner-dev

Dpkg then hangs at

Setting up xulrunner-1.9.2 (1.9.2.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2) ...

With xulrunner-bin process taking up all system resources:

  PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND

29774 root  20   0 33784  112   32 R   98  0.0   3:48.10 xulrunner-bin

I then kill it and get:

Setting up xulrunner-1.9.2 (1.9.2.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2) ...
Terminated
dpkg: error processing xulrunner-1.9.2 (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 143

I've left it xulrunner-bin running for 3 hours on my quite modern laptop so
there is definatly something strange going on.

Please advice if you need any further information.

It always was in sid. It got removed from testing though due to
python-2.4 removal. New upload in sid does solve it. In FTBS on the
non-Ubuntu release arches. So it should probably be synced instead.

[Bug 575161] [NEW] fortran `getlogin' implicitly converted to pointer

2010-05-04 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcc-4.4

I'm compiling a crosstoolchains from i686&x86_64 linux-gnu to
i686-w64-mingw32 & x86_64-w64-mingw32 (4 in total).

I'm using ubuntu gcc-4.4-source (4.4.3) as provided by ubuntu in lucid
as well as binutils-source from lucid with latest upstream of mingw-w64
crt/target headers.

The x86_64 build fails on launchpad with the following debian error:

Function `getlogin' implicitly converted to pointer at
/build/buildd/mingw-w64-2.20.1+2.1/gcc/libgfortran/intrinsics/getlog.c:85
Function `getlogin' implicitly converted to pointer at

The code in questions is:

http://repo.or.cz/w/official-

The gcc-4_5 branch defines mingw as posix environment see

http://repo.or.cz/w/official-
gcc.git/blob/gcc-4_5-branch:/libgfortran/intrinsics/getlog.c

that's the only difference I have found in the recent gcc branches.

Is this a bug or did debian qa script got it wrong?

[Bug 571999] Re: package wine1.2 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade when both wine and wine1.2 are installed

2010-05-06 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Something tells me people were using wine old self-hosted ppa or
switched to the daily ppa. Cause I remember I had this issue when I
upgraded to lucid during development. But I knew that I was using
"upstream" self-hosted packages instead of karmic's wine.

[Bug 511023] [NEW] Sync joystick 20051019-9 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-01-21 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Public bug reported:

Please sync joystick 20051019-9 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Inputattach is now recomemended by the package. LP bugs fixed in debian.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 20051019-5ubuntu1:

joystick (20051019-9) unstable; urgency=low

  * Handle the various buffer sizes expected in kernels 2.6.27 to 2.6.30.8
(2.6.28 changed the value of KEY_MAX, which changed the definition of
a joystick-related ioctl; 2.6.31 fixed the problem by handling any
buffer size - see ec8b4b7085605e801a7740a2c3c33256aebe249c in the
kernel git repository, which was also shipped in 2.6.30.8). Correctly
closes: #536013. Thanks to Krzysztof A. Sobiecki for help determining
the actual cause of the behaviour seen in jstest!
  * Avoid treating positive return values from ioctl() as errors; kernels
starting with 2.6.32 return buffer sizes in some cases (see
999b874f4aa39b7abf45662ff0900f943ddb2d02 in the kernel git
repository).
  * Standards-Version 3.8.3, no change required.
  * initscript stops in level 1 as well as 0 and 6. Note that the
initscript will be going away soon, see #540680.

joystick (20051019-8) unstable; urgency=low

  * Avoid failing with an exit code of 1 in the initscript; thanks Sean
Finney! Closes: #537804

joystick, as suggested by LI Daobing.

joystick (20051019-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Add Sahara Touch-iT213 support; thanks Claudio Nieder! LP: #338746
  * Package evtest and inputattach separately. Closes: #301009
  * Ship force-feedback tools. LP: #131422
  * Add initscript to save and restore calibration data. Closes: #144766
  * Switch from cdbs to dh 7.
  * Rewrite debian/copyright.
  * Rewrite manpages.
  * Standards-Version 3.8.2, no change required.
  * Allow mapping axes without mapping buttons, and remap calibration data
when remapping axes; thanks Krzysztof A. Sobiecki! Closes: #529865
  * Avoid segfaulting when the button map reported by the kernel is
incorrect; hopefully closes: #536013.
  * Add version to the dvb-utils conflict, since the version in Lenny is
just a transitional package there is no conflict.

[Bug 511023] Re: Sync joystick 20051019-9 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-01-22 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Stephen Kitt: You beat me a bit =)

Well debian's inputattach is patched so it's fresher then Ubuntu's.
Currently it looks like inputattach is in main and this will bring in
binary joysticks package and binary calibration tests package into main
as well. In total all debs build from Debian joystick are about 50kB.

I guess this will need to go though a mini main inclusion bug. I could
update ubuntu inputattach to debian's revision. if there are some
other issues.

Debian maintainer also wants to move to udev from init script for
joystick.

What was the reason for stripping out joystick and creating src
inputattach?

[Bug 511023] Re: Sync joystick 20051019-9 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-01-22 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
Mini-main inclusion report:

Proposal: remove inputattach (main) package from the archive and replace
by joystick (universe) package.

Rational: The package replaces another package we currently support and
promises higher quality and/or better features, so that we can drop the
old package from the supported set.

There is no canonical upstream for this code. Inputattach(main) was
created by splitting it out of the joysticks src package from debian
(diff is 0) to provide support of COM mice.

After that debian maintainer continued to support inputattach by adding
bugfixes, together in that sourcepackage he also maintains joysticks
code (again no upstream) by adding bugfixes and new joystick types.

There are no know past or present security issues with this package.

There is reasonable demand for binaries build out of the joysticks
package as can be seen from ubuntu bugs and debian changelog. It
provides COM mice & joystick support at it's current best possible way
on Linux.

Dependencies already present in main. Input on the archive is
minimalistic cause total size of debs is ~50kB on one arch.

In short - brings better COM mice support, removes burden from MOTU of
merging each revision of joystick's package.

Please consider replacing inputattach with joysticks.

[Bug 511023] Re: Replace inputattach (main, unmaintained) with joystick (universe, maintained)

2010-01-22 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
By is "diff 0" I mean at the time of fork which is unpatched version of
inputattach in debian's joysticks orig.tar.gz.

This action will fix Bug #338746, Bug #285493, Bug #248291 cause those
fixes haven't been ported to our inputattach package yet.
