I noticed you are also not loading the synoptics module, maybe this is
the problem?

[Bug 242578] Re: touchpad enable/diable button on re enable breaks scroll slider and slow to reactivate mouse

2008-06-29 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. There was no package set on your bug but not to worry, it
seems that it may be an issue with 'Xorg'. I have set the package for
you so that the appropriate people will be notified.

Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and
X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual
uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Also
try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your
display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from
this attempt. Thanks in advance as this bit of work will greatly help
the developers.

After the needed information is attached to the bug, set the status to
'new' and the bug will be reviewed again.

2008-06-29 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW]

I have classified this bug as a bug in [lineakd] which appears to handle
such things.

Also you might want to boot the live cd and peek at the xorg.conf file

[Bug 226359] Re: nvidia-glx-new twin-view corrupt display at top of second monitor

2008-07-03 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
ahaha! I found a repo to create the issue in more dramatic ways.

In nvidia-settings, click "X Server Display Configuration". If you have
2 monitors, you can drag them on top of each other to display either the
whole display or parts of the display on both monitors. (see attachment)
Then put the screens back next to each other as they were and apply.
This cause what ever was not on the screen to become black and 'bugged'.
(see screenshot to come after this post)

What fixed it before did nothing this time: Resetting the preferences by
launching "compiz-config-manager" found in System -> Preferences and
labeled Advanced Desktop Effects Settings. Click on the "Preferences"
button and then on the "Reset to defaults" button.

To be continued...

[Bug 226359] Re: nvidia-glx-new twin-view corrupt display at top of second monitor

2008-07-03 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
I disabled 'Visual Effects' in the Appearance Manager and I got another
interesting artifact. (attached) Note that the 'fill screen' has a
tiled effect right where there was black before, including the very top
of the screen, where it is not so noticeable in the screenshot but I can
clearly see the effect.

To be continued

[Bug 226359] Re: nvidia-glx-new twin-view corrupt display at top of second monitor

2008-07-03 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Setting the monitor on the right's position to 'right of' got rid of the
black on the right, thankfully. But the original black bar on top is
back again, mocking me. :)

The problem must be in something that is changed by nvidia-settings
about the desktop size I feel like there is enough info here for
someone who knows what their doing to fix this... too bad I'm just not
one of those people...

Someone with more knowledge about the meaning of errno=16 here needs to look at
this. Possibly means 'Device not ready' but that doesn't really help us go any
further.

[Bug 224460] Re: apt-cache shows misleading dependency information

2008-11-14 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
The only use of showpkg over show is the reverse depends listing it
seems.

Perhaps showpkg could be deprecated and then removed in the future
rather than fixed now. If the reverse depends listing were to be added
to show, there would be no reason for the two separate functions to
exist. In both cases of fixing or deprecating, anyone who uses apt-
cache as part of a script will need to update their scripts if we are to
produce a 'fix' for this bug.

Note: Technically the showpkg tells the type of dependency with the
first number in parentheses [Ex: libgcc1 (2 1:4.1.1)], but to human
readers that stumble upon showpkg rather than show will be confused. I
think the real issue is that users make the mistake of using showpkg
when they should just be using show.

mvo? I do believe the buck stops with you, I will be satisfied with
whatever decision you make.
