[Bug 260740] Re: lyx stops responding when tried to view the pdf format

2008-08-25 Thread Dara Adib
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

1. How did you create the .lyx file? Did you use LyX? LyX is a document
processor, a GUI frontend to LaTeX, and therefore unrelated to
programming other than as a method to prepare documentation.

2. Please explain what you are using the LyX file for. Is the LyX file
documentation for your C program, or is it part of the program? In other
words, what are you expecting to do with the LyX file?

3. If you run the command "lyx *.lyx" (without quotes) in the terminal,
replacing * with the filename, what is outputted?

Please attach your LyX file so we can take a look at it. This will help
us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 234590] Re: lyxpreview2bitmap.py crashed with NameError in extract_metrics_info()

2008-08-25 Thread Dara Adib
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 228067 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228067

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 228067, so it is being marked as such. This bug was
fixed in Intrepid on July 11 with the successful building of binary
packages of LyX 1.5.5-1. The same bug in Ubuntu 8.04 Backports (Bug
#242648), was fixed on July 2.

If you still have a problem, please add a comment. Feel free to continue
to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 200699] Re: lyx2lyx crashed with LookupError in read()

2008-08-25 Thread Dara Adib
I do confirm that this does occur with the following line alone:
\usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc}

The reason for this is the option class that occurs for the package
inputenc. This has nothing to do with converting LyX files, rather it
has to do with the conflict in options: latin9 from LyX and utf8x from
user setting.

[Bug 261312] [NEW] lyx should recommend cm-super for vector fonts

2008-08-25 Thread Dara Adib
This bug has been fixed for the most part in Intrepid, which is running
warzone 2.1.0~1.beta4-2. According to upstream:

"[In Warzone 2.1 beta 4] The multi player code has been improved
severely since beta 2, but running out of sync is
still possible. Though it barely happens anymore, and the differences
tend to be significantly smaller."

Note: The bug reporter was running warzone2100 2.1.0~0.svn3330-1, which
is even before beta 2 was released.

The only solution for Ubuntu 8.04 and previous versions is to backport
warzone 2.1.0~1.beta4-2 or later versions in the future. If you wish to

[Bug 297812] Re: Can't write \nicefrac fractions

2008-11-18 Thread Dara Adib
Do you have the package texlive-latex-extra installed, which should
provide the file /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/units/nicefrac.sty
exist on your computer? Please install it if you haven't and try
reproducing the error.

texlive-latex-extra is currently suggested by LyX.

It should probably be recommended instead, as recommended packages are
installed by default in Ubuntu 8.10, but are not required dependencies.

According to the Debian Policy Manual:

Recommends

This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.

The Recommends field should list packages that would be found
together with this one in all but unusual installations.

Suggests

This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with one
or more others. Using this field tells the packaging system and the user
that the listed packages are related to this one and can perhaps enhance
its usefulness, but that installing this one without them is perfectly
reasonable.

recommends a 76 MB -doc package): http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-

Temporarily add the line "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jaunty

[Bug 179139] Re: Intel Wireless Restrictions: ipw2100, ipw2200 are not Free

2009-05-06 Thread Dara Adib
This bug highlights a problem with the Ubuntu main licensing terms that
should be addressed.

The Ubuntu license policy[1] states:

All application software included in the Ubuntu main component:
Must include source code. The main component has a strict and non-negotiable
requirement that application software included in it must come with full source
code.
Must allow modification and distribution of modified copies under the same
license. Just having the source code does not convey the same freedom as having
the right to change it. Without the ability to modify software, the Ubuntu
community cannot support software, fix bugs, translate it, or improve it.

However, the Ubuntu component description[2] makes an exception,
stating: "The licences for software applications in main must be free,
but main may also may contain binary firmware and selected fonts that
cannot be modified without permission from their authors. In all cases
redistribution is unencumbered."

This is problematic for the free software install option on Ubuntu
(which installs only main and universe packages), as well as free
derivatives of Ubuntu like gNewSense.

What about CC-BY-SA 3.0? Debian does consider 3.0 to be free according
to DFSG, but not previous versions.

[Bug 264529] Re: Kernel Panic, not able to boot on live cd--from kernel update to 2.6.27-2

2008-10-20 Thread Dara Adib
I confirm the bug for kernel 2.6.27-7.11 (the bug might have been fixed
in 2.6.27-7.10, though). I will test later with kernel 2.6.27-7.12.

@Steve
As the kernel panics don't appear on any logs (I assume it is too early to be
logged since the kernel hasn't accessed the filesystem yet), I will get back
with the previous lines later.

[Bug 279434] Re: please sync warzone2100 2.1.0~1.beta5-1 from Debian unstable

2008-10-28 Thread Dara Adib
Intrepid is going to be released in two days, but perhaps it is possible
to get the package uploaded to -proposed afterward considering that the
update is a bugfix for 2.1 (development version of Warzone2100 which is
already in -release), and not likely to introduce new bugs.

[Bug 264529] Re: Kernel Panic, not able to boot on live cd--from kernel update to 2.6.27-2

2008-10-01 Thread Dara Adib
Confirming this bug. Setting as high importance since it has a severe
impact on a small (estimated) portion of Ubuntu users.

At about the same time as the bug reporter, I got this kernel panic on
Ubuntu Intrepid 64-bit. However, I can successfully boot into my system
if I reset the computer one or two times.

Though I never experienced this problem on Ubuntu 8.04, the bug for
which the reporter was referring to is Bug #196046.

I'm going to try setting the default Grub settings to an older kernel
and see what happens.

[Bug 264529] Re: Kernel Panic, not able to boot on live cd--from kernel update to 2.6.27-2

2008-10-10 Thread Dara Adib
The kernel panics were gone with the 2.6.27-5 kernel that was released
in Ubuntu about a week ago. However, the 2.6.27-6.9 kernel released in
Ubuntu about 3 days ago was a regression and brought back the kernel
panics. Since kernel 2.6.27-7.10 was released in Ubuntu today, I will
test with this new kernel and see if the bug still exists or is fixed.
