[Bug 930148] Re: Dodge windows is down but what about making the launcher autohide only on maximised apps ?

2012-04-15 Thread Carl Ansell
Adding autohide on window maximise would fix bug 873541.

At present, a new user will either see misaligned window controls on
fullscreen windows (bug 873541), or an empty desktop if they set the
launcher to always hide.

Surely fullscreen windows that appear 'broken' isn't a good thing for a
new user to see, particularly in an LTS release. If this was added, it
would fix this bug, at least until a more elegant solution could be
implemented.

[Bug 869814] Re: impossible to close a program when not in focus

2011-10-09 Thread Carl Ansell
I have updated the description to explain steps to reproduce. This can
be reproduced 100% of the time.

** Summary changed:

- impossible to close a program when not maximized
+ impossible to close a program when not in focus

** Description changed:

When a window isn't maximized, the "close-minimize-maximize buttons
don't appear. It's half a problem for window that can be maximized but
for those that can't (like System Settings) it's pretty annoing...
Ctrl+Alt+Q works but it isn't exaclty intuitive...
+
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Open a maximized window
+ 2. Open an unmaximized window
+ 3. Attempt to close the maximized window
+
+ What is expected:
+ The maximized window can be closed
+
+ What actually happens:
+ The window controls remain hidden

[Bug 845906] [NEW] Ubuntu intermittently fails to boot

2011-09-09 Thread Carl Ansell
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Oneiric Beta 1, fully updated. Sometimes at startup, after the
GRUB2 menu, the system hangs at a blinking cursor with no hard drive
activity. This does not happen 100% of the time, but it can take 5 or 6
attempts to get Ubuntu to boot any further.

I have no idea which package this bug would be against or where to find
crash reports (if there are any). Let me know if any more information is
needed.

[Bug 845906] Re: Ubuntu intermittently fails to boot

2011-10-21 Thread Carl Ansell
** Description changed:

- Ubuntu Oneiric Beta 1, fully updated. Sometimes at startup, after the
- GRUB2 menu, the system hangs at a blinking cursor with no hard drive
- activity. This does not happen 100% of the time, but it can take 5 or 6
- attempts to get Ubuntu to boot any further.
+ Since updating to the 3.0.0-12-generic kernel, my system as been unable
+ to boot. This has occurred in both an update to Oneiric beta, and now
+ the full fresh install, which I have installed 5 times to be sure.

- I have no idea which package this bug would be against or where to find
- crash reports (if there are any). Let me know if any more information is
- needed.
+ To fix it I have had to make the boot partition smaller than 127 (or is
+ it 137)GB, the limit that an old BIOS can read to boot from. This was
+ not an issue in the 3.0.0-11-generic kernel or earlier, and reverting
+ back to the old kernel allowed a successful boot from a partition >
+ 127GB.
+
+ To recap, booting from a partition that passes the 127GB mark on the
+ drive causes a boot failure in 3.0.0-12-generic, but not
+ 3.0.0-11-generic or earlier.

[Bug 834204] Re: New Software Center icon unclear at normal size

2011-09-03 Thread Carl Ansell
I like the white and orange version - it gets rid of the 'brown paper
bag' look completely, and white is more fitting with a high end
'designer bag' feel.

@mpt Are the white sparkles really necessary? I would think that adding
logos from the available software (like the old logo) would give a
clearer representation of what can be found in the USC.

[Bug 840663] [NEW] Removing firefox installs chromium browser.

2011-09-03 Thread Carl Ansell
Public bug reported:

Using an up to date install of Oneiric, removing Firefox automatically
installs Chromium, and vice versa, meaning it is impossible not to have
either one of these packages installed.

Expected behaviour is to remove firefox without installing any
additional packages.

Reproduced this on every install of Oneiric I have across 3 PCs, and can
be reproduced by simply attempting to remove firefox.

2011-04-21 Thread Carl Ansell
I have just been able to reproduce this. As above the icon appeared

reinserting the icon into the launcher, the icon now appears correctly.

It seems like the bug only occurs until the first log out, and does not
occur again.
