[Bug 390974] Re: Quanta Plus does not start anymore

2009-06-22 Thread Bruno Patri
kdeinit: Aborting. No write access to '/home/michael/.ICEauthority'.

This sometimes happen when you launch a graphical application with sudo.
You can try to remove .ICEauthority or to give it back the right
permissions:

sudo chown michael: .ICEauthority

Try to remove the quanta configuration files :

mv ~/.kde/share/apps/quanta  ~/.kde/share/apps/quanta.bak
mv ~/.kde/share/config/quantarc ~/.kde/share/config/quantarc

and the re-launch Quanta.

[Bug 380011] Re: KDE translations: French words same as English are overriden by another language

2009-05-27 Thread Bruno Patri
I've checked Kmail translations in Launchpad and in language-pack-kde-fr
source package.

Upstream template from Stable branch (kde 4.2.2) : 2703 strings,
translation complete

Launchpad translations : kmail template has 2702 strings, it seems to be
identical to upstream (minus one string ?)

language-pack-kde-fr-base : only 2476 strings ! &Message, &Urgent and
many other strings are not in this template !

[Bug 274673] [NEW] [Intrepid KDE] "activities" and zoom features have been removed

 But I have no problems with it in KDE 4.1.1 and it's a great feature to have
different "activities" (desktops) displaying different sets of widgets
(containments).
I'm very disappointed that it has been removed, so please restore this feature

"confusing" and "rather useless" that it should be removed (please read the

[Bug 235810] Re: French translation of "gcc --version" is nonsense

2008-06-02 Thread Bruno Patri
Thanks for your bug report.
Unfortunately there's many errors in French translations of GNU apps (including
gcc). I suggest to use such command line tools with LANG='C' or to remove
corresponding *.mo files (in /usr/share/locale).
If you want to help to improve those translations, please see the Translation
Project: http://www.traduc.org/Projet_de_traduction

many strings modified in Launchpad and I didn't have any time to revert those

I didn't check if this works better in 4.1.2. I'm quite frustated that
this feature have been removed, but I ubderstand Harald's point of
view, and other distros have made the same choice. Hope this will be

[Bug 47181] Re: broken localisation support

2008-09-11 Thread Bruno Patri
This bug seems to be fixed in Hardy (adept 2.1.3). If some items are
still in English in context menu (e.g. Request reinstall) it's probably
because there's some untranslated strings in libapt-front.

This bug report was about adept 2.*, Intrepid will use adept 3.0.

[Bug 261816] Re: nvidia: Multiple versions in DKMS

2008-09-12 Thread Bruno Patri
I had the same kind of issue this morning with nvidia module (kernel
2.6.27-3-generic and nvidia 177.70 update), with this message during the
kernel update :

nvidia (177.68): Unable to locate
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia/177.68/source/dkms.conf
DKMS tree must be manually fixed

(this is because /usr/src/nvidia-177.68 no longer exists)

nivdia-177.70 module was built but not installed.

I've fixed this with dkms, from the command line :

sudo dkms install -m nvidia -v 177.70 -k 2.6.27-3-generic

The package comes from Ubuntu Intrepid repositories.

It shouldn't be a problem for GNOME users (I assume that python-gnome2 is

[Bug 346369] Re: We can't make sense of the strings to translate

2009-03-26 Thread Bruno Patri
Hi Michael, the tinurl doesn't work any more because one string has
changed since the bug report.

The first string was :

Do not focus on map when starting

We found an explanation about "focus-on-map" in Gnome's devlopper doc :

Setting focus_on_map to FALSE hints the desktop environment that the
window doesn't want to receive input focus when it is mapped.
focus_on_map should be turned off for windows that aren't triggered
interactively (such as popups from network activity).

and the other string was (this one has been changed since the bug
report, and that's quite obvious now) :

Sandbox upgrade using aufs

Thanks a lot for trying to solve this issue Savvas. I know how to deal
with gettext templates.

I downloaded software-sources-075.1 (from karmic repo) source package
and tried to examine the code. I really dont know much about Python, but
I found some errors in SoftawarePropertiesKDE.py, for example to have
the "Add source" dialog translated i had to modify those lines (653) :

text = _('Enter the complete APT line of the repository that
you want to add as sourceThe APT line includes the type, location
and components of a repository, for example "%s".') % example
text=utf8(text)

There's also a problem in this file with translate-widget functions but I
really don't understand how this could work.

[Bug 149730] Broken localization in software-properties-kde

2007-10-06 Thread Bruno Patri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-properties-kde

Hi,

I'm using Gutsy with the latest laguage-packs (locale is fr)

Most of the strings in Software-properties-kde appears in English,
although all required templates are translated in French. Software-
properties-gtk is correctly translated.

It seems to be the same for other languages, according screenshots in
Bug #122301.

[Bug 149754] Broken localization in speedcrunch and possible patch

2007-10-06 Thread Bruno Patri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: speedcrunch 0.8

Hi,

Speedcrunch is always in English in Gusty, although there's complete
translations for 18 languages in the source package.

If you add the line :

src/*.qm usr/share/crunch

at the end of the debian/install file in the source package, the binary
package is build with all the translations.

This bug may also affects Debian users.

[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

It couldn't work with kernel 2.6-22-13 since there's no vesafb module in
/lib/modules/2.6.22-13-generic/initrd (just like in previous releases)

Brian, are you sure that veasfb is compiled as module in this new
version?

[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

2007-09-11 Thread Bruno Patri
According Ben collins comment in bug #120747 vesafb is now built into
the kernel. But in the shell script /usr/share/initramfs-
tools/hooks/kernelextras, there is :

for x in ${MODULESDIR}/initrd/*; do
x=${x##*/}
x=${x%.*}
case ${x} in
'*')
break
;;
*fb)
fbcon=y
;;
esac

force_load ${x}
done

# And add vga16fb for usplash to use as well
manual_add_modules vga16fb

if [ ${fbcon} = "y" ]; then
force_load fbcon
fi

Since there is no more *fb module in the ${MODULESDIR}/initrd/
directory, fbcon and its dependencies are not loaded.

[Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy

2007-09-11 Thread Bruno Patri
I forgot to mention that when I remove the conditional loading of fbcon
module and rebuild my initramfs with 'sudo update-initramfs -u', my
framebuffer console works again and the device /dev/fb0 is actually
created (with vga=791 in GRUB options). But it's probably a dirty
hack... May be this should be done in the /usr/share/initramfs-tools
/init-top/framebuffer script.

[Bug 139141] Re: Gutsy: Firefox fails to load, yellow window with rubbish

2007-09-12 Thread Bruno Patri
I don't think this is a Firefox issue.
I'm using Kubuntu Gutsy and Firefox (localized in French) and I didn't have
this problem. Usually this kind of bug in Firefox is due to incompatible
add-ons. You should try to launch Firefox with the command line :

firefox -safe-mode

It will disable all add-ons. If it works, try to uninstall each add-on,
one by one to find the faulty one.

I'm agree that in most cases, "support" is an ugly Anglicism and it should be
translated by "prise en charge", "gestion", "assistance", depending on the
context. But, IMHO, "support" could be acceptable here for these reasons :
- menus items have to be short, and it's hard to find something that is not
wordy, maybe "aide et soutien"... ;
- according to Sebastien "support technique "is commonly used in French, you
can consider that's a mistake, but you also can consider that's an evolution of
the language ;
- in French dictionaries (http://www.cnrtl.fr/lexicographie/support, for
instance); this is not the usual meaning of "support", but it used to be
(etymology).

libadept.po wich seems to be unused, and of course adept** templates.
Adept is fully translated in French) on my Feisty and my Gusy systems.
