[Bug 357989] [NEW] [LENOVO 7658CTO] hibernate/resume failure

2009-04-08 Thread Ben Bromley
Public bug reported:

I hibernated and unplugged the ac power while it was hibernating, and
then when I turned on my computer 10 minutes later, it went into normal
bootup process. When it got to where it would resume from hibernate, it
said something like "Starting normal bootup" after "Waking up". So I
assume something went wrong with the wakeup and it aborted into a
regular startup.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous hibernate and prevented it from
resuming properly.

[Bug 55902] Re: Gnome should have an smb4k type utility

2006-09-22 Thread Ben Bromley
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have the
possibility of being implemented if you would submit a
specification for this.

You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs page
(https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If that is the
case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about your
comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec following the
steps described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications

[Bug 302] Re: firefox hangs with flash plugin installed on certain sites

2006-10-07 Thread Ben Bromley
I have the same problem on the Edgy version of firefox, which is Beta 2.
I'll go to a site with flash on it, such as espn.com, and it will hang
until killed when I'm running the debugger, but will usually just crash
automatically when not running the debugger.

[Bug 82715] Re: network-manager in feisty is broken

2007-02-11 Thread Ben Bromley
My network connection manager says "eth2:avahi", and it refuses to say
that I am connected to the internet. However, with an "ifdown eth2" and
then an "ifup eth2", I am able to connect to the internet. I have both
a broadcom internal chipset, at eth1, which I never use, and an Aironet
external card, which is on eth2 and wifi0. Also, network-manager sees
my wireless network, but will not connect to it when I click on it.

[Bug 582976] [NEW] Gwibber won't open

2010-05-19 Thread Ben Bromley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gwibber

Gwibber was open and running fine, but then stopped updating. Attempts
to manually update the stream failed. I then closed Gwibber, but it
would not reopen. I used ps aux to see if gwibber-service was still
running, which it was. I forcibly killed gwibber-service, and then
tried to start Gwibber again from the command line. This is what I got:

[Bug 1827790] Re: Dell XPS 13 9380 - Screen brightness flashes

2019-09-12 Thread Ben Bromley
I am running Ubuntu 19.04 with an XPS 13 9380 with Intel graphics. I
installed the kernel mentioned above, and the problem is still
occurring. I do a dmesg everytime I see it happen, but I don't see a
consistent message every time it happens. I am more than willing to do
any and all testing you all need, so if you think of something I could
do to further investigate, let me know!

I can post the full multi-day output of journalctl --user if that would
be useful to you all.

[Bug 1827790] Re: Dell XPS 13 9380 - Screen brightness flashes

2019-09-15 Thread Ben Bromley
Huh, I wonder if this is a Gnome Shell issue and not a kernel issue
after all. After switching to Ubuntu Mate, and uninstalling the kernel
mentioned above, I have not had a flicker yet. Anecdotally, I have also
heard of people installing KDE on an XPS 13 9380 and also not having
this issue.

But just to confirm, I think the patched kernel did improve the amount
of flickering.

[Bug 1827790] Re: Dell XPS 13 9380 - Screen brightness flashes

2019-09-16 Thread Ben Bromley
Alright, here we go.

I have the kernel listed above installed: Linux shadeball
5.2.0-9-generic #10~bfo110511 SMP Tue Jul 16 13:17:28 CST 2019 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I then went into the Power settings and turned Dim Screen When Inactive
to off, Blank Screen to Never and so far there have been basically no
flickers. There may have been one or two, but I can't confirm that I saw
them and cannot reproduce them.

I have tried it both on AC power and on battery, and with success on
both.

Thank you so much!

I also hit Fn-A, which I saw somewhere (sorry to not have the link) that
would disable adaptive brightness.

[Bug 1888574] [NEW] Dark mode highlight is too similar to text color

2020-07-22 Thread Ben Bromley
Public bug reported:

Hi all!

This is just a wishlist bug, but the dark mode in Gedit on Ubuntu
doesn't work well for me. In dark mode, the highlight color and the text
color are very similar, and the lack of contrast makes it difficult to
the see text. Perhaps changing the highlight color to purple or
something else to enhance contrast would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

[Bug 596553] Re: MUSIC

2010-06-20 Thread Ben Bromley
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Bug 596581] Re: Package Manager

2010-06-20 Thread Ben Bromley
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in update-manager.
(With many applications, you can report a future bug directly on the
appropriate package by opening the application's "Help" menu and choosing
"Report a Problem". https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs)

[Bug 596410] Re: Please sync libucimf(2.2.9.1-2), fbterm-ucimf(0.2.6-1), ucimf-openvanilla(2.10.6-1) and openvanilla-modules(0.8.0.14+dfsg1-1) from Debian

2010-06-20 Thread Ben Bromley
As you have shown, packages for this software exist in Debian already.
Ubuntu has semi-automatic tools to sync new packages from Debian so it
will most likely appear in the next Ubuntu release. Thank you for taking
the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Also, the first three packages are already in the repository for the
Ubuntu Maverick (10.10) release. I would assume that once openvanilla-
modules leaves NEW in Debian, it will be sync'd as well.

[Bug 596581] Re: Package Manager

2010-06-21 Thread Ben Bromley
What looks like has happened is that your /etc/apt/sources.list has an error in
it. Specifically, on line 54 of that file, the word "sudo" appears where it
shouldn't. To remove that "sudo" from your /etc/apt/sources.list, first type
"gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" (without the quotation marks) into the
terminal. Then scroll down to line 54, where the sudo is, and remove it. That
line should like somewhat like this: deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
lucid universe .

Since this does not appear to be a bug report, we are closing it and converting
it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are
facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if
they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

[Bug 596912] Re: Thunderbird crashes/Seg Faults on load

2010-06-21 Thread Ben Bromley
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please try to obtain a backtrace following the
instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace and upload the
backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. You will need to install
the thunderbird-dbg package prior to running the backtrace. This will
greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

[Bug 580076] Re: Problems with multiple Streams

2010-08-14 Thread Ben Bromley
I think I have the same bug in Gwibber 2.31.5 on Maverick. I have two
twitter accounts and they both appear in one stream. One of them has my
tweets and mentions highlighted and mentions appear as popup
notifications; this does not happen for the other account.

[Bug 1891405] Re: Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 [168c:003e] Subsystem [1a56:143a] Regular wifi crashes on XPS 13 9380

2020-08-30 Thread Ben Bromley
Unfortunately, after about a week the wireless crashes started again. I
reinstalled, and they are not present on the live image as far as I can
tell, though I only used it briefly. Installing the updated firmware
from the PPA this time did not resolve the problem. I tried the most up-
to-date version of Fedora 32, and so far I do not have this crashing
problem.

[Bug 1939211] [NEW] Screen flickering after upgrading from 5.8 kernel to 5.11 kernel

2021-08-07 Thread Ben Bromley
Public bug reported:

Hello!

After the upgrade to the 5.8 series kernel to the 5.11 series kernel, I
have noticed some screen flickering. I had the same problem previously
on Fedora after upgrading to the 5.0 series kernel, but this was not
present on Ubuntu 20.04 on either the 5.4 or 5.8 series kernels. On
Fedora, it was fixed by turning off panel self-refresh on my Dell XPS 13
9380. I can try that again here if you all think it would be a useful
piece of information. In the Fedora bug, it was reported that this
problem is fixed in the 5.13 kernel. Let me know whatever else I can do.

Thanks!
Ben

[Bug 1939211] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9380] Screen flickering after upgrading from 5.8 kernel to 5.11 kernel

2021-08-09 Thread Ben Bromley
I have disabled PSR by adding the kernel parameter to /etc/default/grub
and running sudo update-grub before rebooting. It has been a few hours,
and the screen flickering has not recurred as of yet. I'll keep you
updated if that changes.
