[Bug 1736765] Re: latte-dock crashes after upgrade to Plasma 5.11.4

Hi again,

today a new update was installed. After upgrade it was impossible to
launch Latte Settings. It crashed every time. Deleting files in

installation script.

[Bug 1182784] Re: Install with non English language fails on Keyboard: "ubi-console-setup failed with exit code 141" or "Installer Crashed"

2015-01-15 Thread Ales
Same in Kubuntu 14.10.
Firstly I got "ubi-console-setup crashed", then the whole installer crashed and
won't start again - just black screen. Finally I made it to work by pressing
ESC on boot, selecting directly "Install" in the text menu and keeping the
English US keyboard.

2015-05-11 Thread Ales
> Peter Chibunna (peterchibunna) wrote on 2015-05-08:

I can confirm that. Any attempt to install/remove/purge anything results:
"kde-telepathy-minimal : Depends: kde-config-telepathy-accounts (>= 0.9.0) but
it is not installed"
"Unmet dependencies"
then ends without doing anything.

Running "apt-get -f install" doesn't help.

[Bug 1451728] Re: kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error

2015-05-11 Thread Ales
Finally I had to remove package "kde-telepathy" using Muon Package
Manager.

"apt-get" works again, "apt-get autoremove" put away rest of Telepathy.
Too bad but I use it only occasionally so it's no big deal for me and I'm
waiting for the fix.

[Bug 1197395] Re: /run/user/$ID/pulse owned by root and not by the user

2013-10-20 Thread Ales
Fixed by deleting the directory '/run/user/1000/pulse'.
Then I had to kill vlc (VLC media player) process that was waiting endlessly
saing "Failed to create secure directory (/run/user/1000/pulse)".
But I think after reboot it will be the same again.

[Bug 1243825] Re: wont resume when awakened from suspend

2013-10-26 Thread Ales
Same here: HP ProBook 4525s. After upgrade to Kubuntu 13.10 I got
problems with suspension to RAM. Computer doesn't wake up very often.
The HDD LED blinks, the main power switch shines but the screen is
black. I don't know if it is possible to connect via ssh. I'm going to
try it next time.

Sometimes it even doesn't go to sleep. Screen turns black but the fan
doesn't stop and nothing more happens. Plus I have trouble connecting
the external monitor. Before that upgrade everything worked just fine.
Maybe something with video drivers?

[Bug 1242137] Re: brightness control keys don't work after upgrade to 13.10

2013-11-04 Thread Ales
I have AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430. lshw says HD 5430/5450/5470. I
removed the proprietary fglrx driver and it seems to work again:

How to do that:

# sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev*

# sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf

# sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-video-
intel libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 libgl1-mesa-
dri:i386

# sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Then reboot the computer.

Source: http://xpressrazor.wordpress.com/2013/05/31/fix-catalyst-driver-
in-ubuntu-13-04/

So the problem is probably something in the video driver.

[Bug 1531439] [NEW] Freeze after kernel upgrade to 4.0.23

2016-01-06 Thread Ales
Public bug reported:

After the recent kernel upgrade 2.4.0-23 the computer freezes (see the
screenshot) and I'm not able to login neither into a graphic mode nor
the text console.

When I try previous kernel 4.2.0-22 the result is the same even if it
worked before.

When I go to the recovery mode (Grub menu > Advanced options > Linux
4.2.0-23-generic (recovery mode)) and just select "Resume normal boot"
it boots as normal and I can login into KDE. But I guess it is in some
non accelerated graphics mode.

[Bug 1525721] Re: Can't use hardware decoding (vaapi) with fglrx: Assertion `buffers' failed

2016-01-11 Thread Ales
Thank you for your replay. After BIOS update:

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
says:

   M74 Ver. 01.16
   11/26/2015

Unfortunately no improvement, it doesn't work anyway. The only change
is, that mpv doesn't give "SIGABRT" but "Aborted".

[Bug 1531439] Re: Freeze after kernel upgrade to 4.0.23

2016-01-11 Thread Ales
Thank you for you replay.

I've done this: In non accelerated mode after recovery boot switch to
X.Org X server display driver, restart, switch back to fglrx, restart
and it works. So I guess the reinstall of fglrx was needed.

I updated the BIOS but obviously the problem is not reproducible (after
fglrx reinstallation it works).

I don't think it's related to BIOS but rather to a hybrid graphic card i
have (Intel Haswell + AMD Radeon R5 M255).

My another bug regarding hardware acceleration:

[Bug 1539046] [NEW] libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied

2016-01-28 Thread Ales
Public bug reported:

After some update (unfortunately I'm not sure what) if I try to play a
videofile (e.g. mpv movie.mkv) I get this error:

libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied

I think from this message is not very clear why is that.

I figured out I was not in "video" group: "id user_name"

I had to do this: "usermod -aG video user_name " and then restart X
(logout, login). After that it works again.

So I suspect there is some problem there. Why libGL cannot be used
without membership in video group or why a regular user is not in video
group.

[Bug 833058] Re: Muon-updater doesn't ask for password

2016-01-29 Thread Ales
Happened to me on Kubuntu 15.10 after upgrade to Plasma 5.5.3 and Frameworks
5.18.0
using kubuntu.org's ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports.

The message was: "This operation cannot continue since proper
authorization was not provided."

Plus some weird problems for instance cannot suspend to RAM without the
authorization.

It turned out that the package of PolicyKit-Kde was gone. I had to
install it back: sudo apt-get install polkit-kde-1.

[Bug 1318570] [NEW] Disabled touchpad on again after wake

2014-05-12 Thread Ales
Public bug reported:

I have set "Disable touchpad when mouse is plugged in" in System

waked up, touchpad is ON again. If I plug out and plug in the USB dongle

if a mouse is plugged.

[Bug 1243825] Re: wont resume when awakened from suspend

2013-11-15 Thread Ales
Addition: it turned out that removing proprietary video driver was not
enough. Some problems disappeared but my laptop still sometimes didn't
wake up from sleep. So I tried to upgrade kernel to 3.12 and now it
looks like everything is all right again. I hope it will remain that way
for a while.

So in my case the problems were solved by 1. removing proprietary video
drive, 2. upgrading kernel.

How to upgrade the kernel: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2013/11

myshare -fstype=nfs4,soft,intr 192.168.1.1:/

I made the directory /media/myshare in advance.

First a stopped service: "service autofs stop" and run "automount -f -v" to see
its messages.
Than I tried to access /media/myshare. ls is OK, mc from console too but when
I do it with nautilus I get " failed to mount /media/.hidden" and nothing else
happens. What is interesting, sometimes the first attempt works but the second
fails and myshare directory is deleted!

This is the situation on Ubuntu 12.04. At the same time the same
configuration works perfectly on Kubuntu 12.04 with Krusader and
Dolphin. Any ideas or workarounds?

Note: what is wrong with autofs? There is an old "syntax error" bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/autofs5/+bug/488696) that I
had to fix first and now this one I don't know what to do about.

[Bug 887933] [NEW] KDE taskbar (the bottom panel) doesn't respond occasionally

2011-11-09 Thread Ales
Public bug reported:

After upgrade from Kubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 the bottom panel started to
freeze every now and then. It stops working for about 1 or 2 minutes.
During this time I can't switch windows (but ALT+TAB works), can't
switch workspaces (but CTRL+F1 - F4 works), I'm unable to start the
launcher (but ALT+F2 works) or the calendar or anything else. The whole
bottom panel is out of order for some time. After a while it works again
and I can see that all previous clicks are quickly processed.

The problem repeats several times a day but I haven't found any
regularity or a reason why it happens.

I upgraded KDE to 4.7.3 from ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa, but it didn't help.

[Bug 874266] Re: Wireless led indicator always "off"

2011-11-11 Thread Ales
Hi,

same here. HP ProBook 4525s and Broadcom BCM4313. I think that different
driver is used. When I click on the network manager I can see "Driver:
brcmsmac" which is probably open source driver. When I want to install
the proprietary one it tells me it can't be installed.

It worked fine in 11.04. After upgrade to 11.10 it stopped working and
when I tried clean installation of Kubuntu 11.10 it doesn't work as
well. Wifi works but with brcmsmac and LED indicator is off.

I can confirm that. Kubuntu 11.10, HP ProBook 4525s, Broadcom BCM4313

After this "apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source" proprietary driver
SEEMS to work but it doesn't.
On the network manager I can see "Driver: brcmsmac" which is probably open
source driver.

[Bug 340208] [NEW] network speed increases with CPU usage

2009-03-09 Thread Ales Tamchyna
Public bug reported:

There has been a lot of discussion about slow network (Ethernet)
connection in Ubuntu 8.04 and higher:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-networking-3/slow-internet-after-upgrade-to-ubuntu-8.04-637922/
http://www.zyxware.com/articles/2008/08/01/slow-broadband-in-ubuntu-hardy-speed-up-your-internet-connection
http://www.chrisamiller.com/blog/2008/11/26/slow-internet-on-ubuntu-810/

In my case, none of those solutions worked. But I noticed that
increasing CPU usage increases the connection speed and using the CPU at
maximum makes the connection work completely fine. I am connected with
100 Mbit speed. Normally, downloading speed gets as low as 30 Kbit/s,
with the CPU busy it works at 100 Mbit/s. The speed is not slower in
LAN, only in Internet connections.

This behaviour can be reproduced at any time.

[Bug 340218] Re: Automount of maxtor 300GB Extern USB HDD failed

2009-03-09 Thread Ales Tamchyna
I think this is not a bug. Most likely cause is that the drive really
wasn't cleanly unmounted in Windows and since Linux (unlike Windows)
respects the filesystem state, it won't mount it. You should have tried
the first suggestion: disconnect the external devices by clicking on the
'Safely Remove Hardware' Icon in the Windows taskbar. This will probably
solve your problem. Note that this is not an error or a bug, but
reasonable and excpected behavior.

as I have written in the report, even for the second time connect to the
same server the segfault did not repeat. since that time I have not
encoutered other segfaults.

I believe you are running Edgy with that latest version of ssh, is that

yes, that is correct.

[Bug 340208] Re: network speed increases with CPU usage

2010-03-13 Thread Ales Tamchyna
Hello,

I dig some more testing and I found out that I experience this 'bug' in
other operating systems as well, so it's obviously a hardware issue, not
a bug.

[Bug 1721637] Re: can't open system settings(Ubuntu 17.10), icon is visible but settings don't display

2018-04-07 Thread Ales Kvapil
I started settings after installation and it worked. But when I clicked
on Users tab, it freezed. So I clicked wait twice and then force close.
Then I reinstalled and settings didn't work anymore.

I reinstalled gnome, disabled tweak extensions, removed .config and
.cache and .local from home dir. After that gnome settings started to
work again. From my testing there was some bug in .local settings as
this was that that finally helped me.

Same issue, Ubuntu 18.04.1, reinstalled about a week ago. Pressing the
lock shortcut "freezes" the screen - clicking it doesn't do anything,
but whatever I had open remains shown. Locking it "again" show to login
page, but the dock is visible and can be interacted with. Using 2
displays.

[Bug 1394338] Re: gnome-terminal's menu is missing "File/Open Tab"

2016-05-06 Thread Ales Cepek
The only explanation for removing the menu item "File/Open Tab" is, that
maintainers of gnome-terminal do not use Gnome terminal themselves. Also
in 3.18.3 (Ubuntu 16.04) if I expand the terminal size to maximum
(double click on the menu bar) it would not return back to its previous
size when double clicked again.

I do not know much about Ubuntu. I switched to Ubuntu from Debian few years
ago just to have the same system as our students (we used to have Linux in
our curricula). And as I experience some queer minor problems with Ubuntu
16.04, the more and more I am considering return home to Debian ;-) ... but
definitely not before current semester is closed.

2012-04-23 Thread Ales Katona
All swing Java applications have this problem if they decide to use
native look. This includes netbeans, Jitsi (the SIP communicator) and
possibly quite a lot of others.

I think that perhaps that change shouldn't affect the text color
(although border was also changed??). I plan to look into JDK/swing's
sources for theming info with native gtk look and see what they read as
what, but am quite busy with other things atm.

Ubuntu developers should make sure, that they understand a difference between
Super Cow and Handycapped Cow. If they want to preserve the actual cow, they
should change the string about apt and cow in this proposed way `This APT has
Handycapped Cow Powers!`. Poor cow

[Bug 1063091] Re: Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding

2012-10-12 Thread Ales Katona
After some additional testing it seems that the tablet works in a random
manner (some reboots it does, most it doesn't but it doesn't seem to be
related to it being plugged in USB on boot).

When it works I get this xinput list result:
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PIXART USB OPTICAL MOUSE id=9[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger touch id=14 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger pad id=15 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Pen stylus id=16 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Pen eraser id=17 [slave pointer (2)]

and evdev on event14 works (note tho, I didn't get /dev/input/events for
id > 14 for some reason)

But it should've worked on the pen device because this is the touchless
version of the tablet.

When it doesn't work I get this xinput list result:
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PIXART USB OPTICAL MOUSE id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPadid=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger touch id=9[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom Bamboo Connect Finger pad id=15 [slave pointer (2)]

while still not having event15 in /dev/input (9 us there)

I think the touch devices are probably dummy and that's what causing the
problems.

[Bug 1063091] [NEW] Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding

2012-10-06 Thread Ales Katona
Public bug reported:

My Bamboo Connect CTL-470 tabled (cable version) doesn't work in the latest
12.10 beta2.
The kernel recognized it and creates two new input devices. I can see it also
in the Xorg input list but not in the ubuntu settings/wacom. I can also see the
device in Inkscape, however it cannot be used or turned on. The pen does light
up the light on the tablet, but no mouse movement is registered from it.

Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch)

I expected the tablet to work, it didn't. I'm reporting this under the X
driver since the kernel seems to have recognized it properly in DMESG:

[Bug 616308] Re: Problem go to suspend with USB device connected

2010-08-12 Thread Ales Strelka
So I found that my problem is lirc_igorplugusb module in lsmod ( attached ).
I tried to kill him :

x...@xbmclive:~$ rmmod lirc_igorplugusb
ERROR: Module lirc_igorplugusb is in use

Next step which I did :
I stopped lirc :
r...@xbmclive:~# sudo /etc/init.d/lirc stop
* Stopping remote control daemon(s): LIRC [ OK ]

and tried again stop lirc_igorplugusb module :

r...@xbmclive:~# rmmod lirc_igorplugusb
Killed

after this I used pm-suspend. On the screen I can see :

PM:Syncing filesystemsdone
PM:Preparing system for mem sleep
Freezing user space processes...( elapsed 0.00 seconds ) done
Freezing remaining freezable tasks...( elapsed 0.00 seconds ) done
PM:entering mem sleep
Suspending console(s) ( use no_console_suspend to debug )

and still no suspend .
