Addition: it turned out that removing proprietary video driver was not enough. Some problems disappeared but my laptop still sometimes didn't wake up from sleep. So I tried to upgrade kernel to 3.12 and now it looks like everything is all right again. I hope it will remain that way for a while.
So in my case the problems were solved by 1. removing proprietary video drive, 2. upgrading kernel.
