[Bug 2056257] Re: unexpected header length in /proc/net/snmp

2025-03-05 Thread Christian Ehrhardt
Due to HWE kernels this is interesting to Jammy and later.

AFAICS it is not even applied in Plucky right now (which is another
indicator of this being a nice fix, but not overly breaking or important
for anyone) which might also explain why it stayed without further
attention or priority.

Let me check how easy or not that applies to the different releases...

That looks like a configuration error. You are essentially telling your
computer to contact the server named HTTPS via http.

how much memory does your machine have? Is this a real or virtual
computer?

[Bug 2056257] Re: unexpected header length in /proc/net/snmp

** Changed in: net-snmp (Ubuntu Oracular)

** Changed in: net-snmp (Ubuntu Noble)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: net-snmp (Ubuntu Noble)
   Status: New => Triaged

** Tags added: server-todo

** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+  * kernel changed /proc/net/snmp format, due to that net-snmp can't
+parse it anymore.
+
+ * The fix is adding compat to the new without removing the
+parsing for the old format
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ * since it probes this in the default config it is easy to trigger
+
+ $ apt install snmpd
+ $ tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep snmpd
+ Mar 6 06:38:08 f snmpd[6147]: systemstats_linux: unexpected header length in
/proc/net/snmp. 237 != 224
+ Mar 6 06:38:08 f snmpd[6147]: message repeated 2 times: [ systemstats_linux:
unexpected header length in /proc/net/snmp. 237 != 224]
+ Mar 6 06:39:08 f snmpd[6147]: systemstats_linux: unexpected header length in
/proc/net/snmp. 237 != 224
+ Mar 6 06:43:08 f snmpd[6147]: message repeated 4 times: [ systemstats_linux:
unexpected header length in /proc/net/snmp. 237 != 224]
+ ... [will repeat once per minute, you might not see all due to supression of
repetitions] ...
+
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ * Kernels <6.7 would already have worked and their code path did not change
+ * Kernels >=6.7 would so far have failed and not provided the data as it was
+supposed to do. With the fix that changes. Hence people might find
+unexpected new info in their snmp data after the fix
+ * But in general this is limited to the parsing of /proc/net/snmp
+regressions should be local to that
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+ * To me (not an snmp user) this just appears to be log-spam,
+cumbersome but not critical and the reason why everywhere
+this had quite some delay. An actual snmpd expert user might be
+able to outline how the lack of this parsing further handicaps
+the supposed value of the tool (and thereby raise the urgency
+a bit)

Got the route cause..

Issue is happening at DNS resolution..

[Bug 2100968] Re: no access rights to files after successful onedrive mount

2025-03-05 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/welcome-to-support-and-help/49951, or for
more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

( this is not an installer bug; esp. not ubiquity; but I don't know what
package to change it to sorry. I'm marking it incomplete as it appears
the OP is after support/solution more than fix )

2025-03-05 Thread Leo Lin
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  Some HP ZBook Ultra Mobile Workstations have a sensor to wake up the
  system on human presence. This behavior is not always desirable (e.g.
  during suspend tests), and currently there’s no way to disable it.

  [ Fix ]

  Cherry-pick the following patch series, which has been in the linux-
  next:

  [PATCH 0/3] Adjust behavior for HPD sensor[1]

- This introduce a new sysfs file
+ This introduces a new sysfs file
  (/sys/bus/pci/drivers/pcie_mp2_amd/*/hpd) to toggle the HPD sensor, and
- disable the HPD sensor by default. Users may enable it manually by

  [ Tests ]

  1. Suspend the system.
  2. Move objects across the built-in camera. The system should not wake up.
  3. Check camera functions normally.

  [ Where the problems could occur ]

  The worst case is the human presence sensor no longer works. If for some
  reason the camera needs this sensor in order to function normally, then
  this may cause regression in camera.

[Bug 2100996] [NEW] [p-m] Please remove from Plucky, obsolete upstream and will be removed from Testing

2025-03-05 Thread Simon Quigley
Public bug reported:

https://github.com/salemove/jaeger-client-ruby - this repository is now
archived.

Additionally, the build in plucky-proposed FTBFS due to explicitly
requiring an older version of Ruby.

There does not seem to be any new upstream versions compared to the one
in Plucky. It will also be removed from Debian Testing soon, due to the
exact same FTBFS.

Please remove ruby-jaeger-client from Plucky, both the release and
proposed pockets, and add it to the sync blocklist.

Hi Tim,
From currently test, any platform add this patch a89c82249c37 ("PCI: Work
around PCIe link training failures"). might happen this issue. Just hot
remove/hotplug onboard nvme device will reproduce this issue.
I will check with our test engineer whether the ubuntu test environment is
reserved.
Thanks,

[Bug 2097693] Re: Occasional crashes referencing btcoexist

2025-03-05 Thread Angelo
I upgraded soon after 24.04.1 was available.

I have a number of backups that go back before it started, but I did not
make them on a consistent schedule, and I exclude a lot of system files.
However, I do have the logs. I cannot find any evidence of when I did
the last do-release-upgrade. The latest version of Linux 5 in the logs
I see is:

5.15.0-116-generic

So maybe I never had 5.17

It doesn't appear to be available for noble. Is there a way I can use
the jammy repos to install the version I previously had?

Also, since I don't know how to trigger the problem, how can we debug
the issue? What are the next steps?

This seems like a very hard problem to solve.

[Bug 2100949] Re: Ubuntu 24.04.02 LTS bugs

2025-03-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The Bluetooth issue with Mediatek MT7921 chips is being tracked in bug
2100771.

Please choose one of the remaining issues that this bug should focus on.
Each bug report should only describe one issue.

** Package changed: bluez (Ubuntu) => ubuntu

** Changed in: ubuntu
   Status: New => Incomplete

** Description changed:

- Bluetooth/WiFi Unavailable:
-
- Occasionally, the system fails to recognize Bluetooth and WiFi adapters.
- Running rfkill list sometimes shows soft-blocked devices, even after manually
enabling them.
- Restarting the Bluetooth/WiFi service or rebooting temporarily fixes the
issue, but it reoccurs randomly.
  System Freezes Completely:

  The system randomly becomes unresponsive, requiring a hard reboot.
  No specific pattern or high resource usage is observed before the freeze.
  Switching to a TTY session (Ctrl + Alt + F3) sometimes works, but not always.
  Dock Disappearing:

  The GNOME dock randomly disappears, leaving only the top bar visible.
  Running gnome-shell --replace or restarting the GNOME session brings it back,
but the issue reoccurs.

[Bug 2100655] Re: [nouveau] Second monitor shows only cursor visible when using Wayland with Nouveau driver - Switching to Xorg solved issue

2025-03-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1978905 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1978905

Thanks. It looks like this is one of those cases where Nvidia is the
primary GPU with Intel secondary:

Mar 05 12:51:48 Goliat gnome-shell[2271]: Added device '/dev/dri/card2'
(nouveau) using non-atomic mode setting.
Mar 05 12:51:48 Goliat gnome-shell[2271]: Device '/dev/dri/card1' prefers
shadow buffer
Mar 05 12:51:48 Goliat gnome-shell[2271]: Added device '/dev/dri/card1' (i915)
using atomic mode setting.
Mar 05 12:51:48 Goliat gnome-shell[2271]: Created gbm renderer for
'/dev/dri/card2'
Mar 05 12:51:48 Goliat gnome-shell[2271]: Created gbm renderer for
'/dev/dri/card1'
Mar 05 12:51:48 Goliat gnome-shell[2271]: Boot VGA GPU /dev/dri/card2 selected
as primary

If your secondary monitor is plugged into the secondary GPU (Intel) then
that requires special support which was added in Mutter 46.5 and 47
which was only released in Ubuntu 24.10. Although even that was only
tested with the proprietary Nvidia driver and not with Nouveau.

Debugged in:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2295#note_2232915

So that would make this a duplicate of bug 1978905 fixed in Ubuntu
24.10, assuming the fix that works for nvidia-drm also works for
nouveau.

Hi Hunter,

I am very sorry for the late response.

This package is mainly maintained by Debian Rust team, can you forward
this bug to Debian Bug Tracker? Some Debian developers disagree with
adding `rustc` to the Provides field of the package, maybe we can open a
conversation on that.

is highly likely a duplicate of LP#2093352.

[Bug 2100024] Re: apparmor: SGX EPC passthrough, cannot add memory module=sgx-epc

2025-03-05 Thread Lukas Märdian
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
+ * SGX EPC passthrough, cannot add memory module=sgx-epc
+ * Despite having SGX enabled on the host, a VM wont run with the
memory-backend-epc module.
+
+ * This is fixed (upstream) by allowing QEMU access some additional
+ files, if SGX memory model is configured for the domain:
+
+   1) /dev/sgx_vepc needs to be RW
+   2) /dev/sgx_provision needs to be RO
+
+ (This was already done in the SELinux driver before but was missing in
+ AppArmor.)
+
+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ - Setup SGX on host machine
+ - Setup virsh and then configure vm, add XML tags for SGX in CPU and add
memory-backend-epc module:
+
+
+   16384
+
+
+
+ - Run the VM, it should NOT show this error:
+ "Error starting domain: internal error: QEMU unexpectedly closed the monitor
(vm='ubuntu24.04'): 2025-02-21T17:27:05.276761Z qemu-system-x86_64: invalid
object type: memory-backend-epc
+ "
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+  * This change modifies src/security/virt-aa-helper.c – should anything
+ go wrong we could see generic AppArmor denials, blocking arbitrary
+ functionality.
+
+ [ Other Info ]
+
+  * Upstream bug: https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/issues/751
+  * Upstream fix:
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/commit/291186daa39c7be8ac2960130dfd70cc8c62bb99
+
+ --- original bug report ---
+
  Hello, I am trying to find out why my VM wont run with the memory-backend-epc
module. Despite having SGX enabled on my host.
  I did a little bug issue on the upstream which was just merged into upstream:
https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/issues/751

  I am wondering if this can be backported to the stable release as well?

  I also have the question here :
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1542027/sgx-passthrough-to-qemu-vm-
  ubuntu-24-04/1542366#1542366

  For more information on the bug itself:

  Software environment
  - Architecture: x86_x64
  - kernel version: 6.8.0-53-generic
  - libvirt version: libvirt 10.0.0
  - Operating system: 24.04 LTS (Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS)
  - Hypervisor and version: QEMU 8.2.2

  Following the official documentation I add the module

  ```
-
-   16384
-
-
+
+   16384
+
+
  ```

  But run into this error:

  ```
  Error starting domain: internal error: QEMU unexpectedly closed the monitor
(vm='ubuntu24.04'): 2025-02-21T17:27:05.276761Z qemu-system-x86_64: invalid
[Bug 2100887] Re: SRU: time_t overflow on certain architectures (100% CPU)
2025-03-05 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I've done a number of SRUs in the past and would have thought this bug
would certainly qualify.  Not sure if the SRU criteria have changed in
the last few years but when I read
https://documentation.ubuntu.com/sru/en/latest/reference/requirements/#reference-
what-is-acceptable-to-sru the bar seems to be much higher than what I
used to remember.  While 100% CPU is certainly very, very unfortunate, I
am not sure it qualifies as "severe regression".
Asking for guidance before I prepare the SRU template.
[Bug 2100937] [NEW] apt install --mark-auto does not retain auto mark
2025-03-05 Thread Jarno Suni
Public bug reported:
e.g.
1) sudo apt install ppa-purge
2) sudo apt-mark auto ppa-purge
3) sudo apt install --mark-auto ppa-purge
Expected result:
ppa-purge is marked as auto
What happend:
ppa-purge is marked as manual
If line (2) is omitted, I think the result should be manual, even if it
is unintuitive. At least I need a way to retain the auto/manual status
when I install a package (without --reinstall) a version of which is
already installed no matter which auto/manual status the previously
installed package has. i.e. I want an option to retain the auto/manual
status of the old package when I use "apt install pkg/target_release",
because I want auto-removing work as expected thereafter. It is
debatable what should the status be, if there was no package installed
before.
BTW ppa-purge relies on "apt install" marking packages with the right
auto status, but it doesn't seem to work now. We need clear
documentation about when auto status is changed.
