[Bug 2089262] [NEW] Removal of Xdiagnose from universe for 25.04

2024-11-21 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:

Xdiagnose installation recently failed in a dpkg issue (LP:2084825).
That was addressed but raised the question: Do we still need this
package?

It has mostly been idle through the decade and there are very few
mentions to it in the whole Internet.

The program xdiagnose itself showed Xorg log (it doesn't anymore since
the logs go now in .local/share/xorg instead of /var/log), allowed to
file a bug report which is essentially just calling Apport, and had a
couple of configuration options to tweak the kernel arguments;
Exhaustively:

*1st checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”drm.debug=0xe plymouth:debug”
*2nd checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash”
*3rd checkbox probably only configures Whoopsie.
*4th checkbox toggles GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text
*5th checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="vesafb.invalid=1”
*6th checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nopat"

It would be furthermore used by Xorg's bug reporting Apport hook if
present; In practice that is seldom the case.

As development and the distribution itself shift away from Xorg to
Wayland, it is not worth to keep this package in the archive.

[Bug 2065423] Re: Update AppArmor template to allow confined runc to kill containers

2024-11-21 Thread Andreas Hasenack
In jammy's containerd-app upload, I'm seeing a lot of churn in the
debian patches. For example, patches 0004 and 0005 are being removed
again, but they were not being applied anyway via d/p/series. This is a
mistake in previous uploads. These two patches were added in
1.7.2-0ubuntu1[1], then first removed in 1.7.2-0ubuntu2[2] (files and
d/p/series), then READDED in 1.7.12-0ubuntu2~22.04.1[3] probably by
mistake, as just the patch files were added, but not mentioned in
d/p/series. And now in this current upload the patch files are being
deleted again, without mentioning it in d/changelog.

Since this is about mistakes in previous uploads, but that do not affect
the build, I'll take it as is, but let's please watch out for such
mistakes in the future, as it makes the review much harder and therefore
more time consuming.

2024-11-21 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Hello Sebastian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted containerd-app into jammy-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/containerd-
app/1.7.19-0ubuntu1~22.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Just FYI, happened about two weeks ago and yet again today.
This time I tried to turn off the screen and on again (vis settings ->
display). But turning on again is blocked by the UI saying "Changes can not be
Applied" "This could be due to hardware limitations". Was worth a try for a
mitigation, back to reboot for now :-/

2024-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Ah BTW, 4 out of 4 times this happened so far it was the same screen out of the
5.
1 more screen is the very same model, and 2 more are the previous years gen of
the same model - so quite similar.
This gets suspicious as that seems more than by chance.
It is the bottom left in the setup of 5 screens.

Out of my reported setup, this one:
DP-4 connected 1920x1080+514+1920 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
600mm x 340mm

2024-11-21 Thread Miriam España Acebal
Hi Markus,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Inspecting the logs, I saw the following in your
/var/log/mysql/error.log:

2024-11-12T06:57:30.047910Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010262] [Server] Can't start server:
Bind on TCP/IP port: Address already in use
2024-11-12T06:57:30.047952Z 0 [ERROR] [MY-010257] [Server] Do you already have
another mysqld server running on port: 3306 ?

It seems you have something using the same port as the one needed by
MySQL... Could you check it by running:

sudo ss -tulpna | grep :3306

and send us that information?

On the other hand, could it be possible you're using a MySQL snap at the
same time (which is not recommended)? Usually, I might have a clue
inspecting the Dmesg.txt file, but in this case it doesn't collect that
information.

In the meantime, I will mark this bug as "Incomplete." Please set it as
"New" when you provide the requested information. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1980991] Re: /usr/sbin/on_ac_power incorrectly reporting ac power status

2024-11-21 Thread Ghadi Rahme
Interesting, when fixing the script I relied on the mode the USB ports
are in (which they should always be in source mode for a desktop machine
but apparently each vendor does things differently).

The USB port being in sink mode means that it is configured to power the
system and not power peripherals.

It seems that systemd devs were aware of this behavior in some machines
and added an extra check that verifies battery status.

Currently on_ac_power has no such checks and completely ignores batteries.
I will update the script to also check for batteries and battery status before
returning that the system is in offline mode.

Thanks!

[Bug 1481442] Re: [HP Pavilion dv6-6145eo Entertainment Notebook PC] Laptop monitor turns off during boot

2024-11-21 Thread Ben Mark
This bug report showcases the technical depth and precision required to
troubleshoot specific issues in a system, reflecting a methodical
approach that resonates with the backstage operations of showbiz
https://showbizztodayz.com/. Just as a production's success depends on
resolving technical glitches—like sound, lighting, or screen
malfunctions—before the curtain rises, addressing system bugs is
critical for ensuring smooth performance in software. The proposed
workarounds are akin to improvisational fixes in a live show, ensuring
functionality despite underlying issues. However, much like in
entertainment, a permanent solution (in this case, a patched kernel or
driver update) would elevate the overall performance, leaving both users
and audiences satisfied with a seamless experience.

[Bug 2089320] Re: Secure boot variables full, unable to boot

2024-11-21 Thread Julian Andres Klode
I guess after the 2nd boot? secureboot-db I believe has been updated and
now contains current revocations which are quite big but also necessary,
it installs them at boot (possibly the service runs when Maas is booting
it's deploying side of things, idk).

Particularly, it revokes a lot of Windows boot loaders due to
BlackLotus.

[Bug 2086795] Re: New DNSSEC root trust anchor

2024-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

   * ICANN has generated the next DNSSEC root trust anchor, KSK-2024.

   * ICANN's current plan is that it will be required around 2026-10-11
     to 2027-01-11, but the sooner it's updated, the more unmaintained
     installations will have it when the time comes.
   *
https://lists.dns-oarc.net/pipermail/dns-operations/2024-November/022711.html

   * On one hand it is "only" annoyance as e.g. named uses them as
     hints and will on start check those hints and spam you
     warnings to the logs.

   * On the other hand this will break. Mid term the old addresses
     will stop to work (by 2026/2027) that is the strong
     deadline until this should be updated everywhere.

  [ Test Plan ]

   * In the past on updates the self check on hints of named
-    were quite useful here (see bug 2045297) but this time
+    were quite useful here when it was updating to the new
+keys (see bug 2045297). But this time we are not so very
+late (which is good) and thereby that simple test does not
+work yet (not so good).

- TODO - check what the old test does not (expect nothing)
  TODO - we can likely only compare against the upstream checksums this time
then?
+ TODO - maybe use the readout tool against the content from upstream and
verify it's content matches

  [ Where problems could occur ]

   * This isn't code, purely a data file for services that need to know
     about dns root servers. Thereby there is no code in the package itself
     that would fail, but potential regressions would be in the dependencies.
     Those are (and we can more consciously look out for those):

  Reverse-Recommends
  ==
  * dnsmasq-base [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * dnsmasq-base-lua [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * ldnsutils [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * libbellesip2 [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * unbound
  * unbound-host

  Reverse-Depends
  ===
  * bind9
  * dnsviz
  * hash-slinger [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * knot-resolver [amd64 arm64 armhf]
  * libgetdns10 [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * libreswan [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * opendkim [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * pdns-recursor [amd64 arm64 ppc64el s390x]

   * At the same time I think we'd not need to do super advanced tests with
     custom setups of each of them. Those that are reverse dependencies and
     have tests (bind9, libreswan) will be ran by autopkgtest and given the
     change, that should IMHO be sufficient.

  [ Other Info ]

   * This is a native package and we are not doing anything special
     The same landed in Debian
     => https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1076995

- * Given that this is changing only data and that we likely need
-to expect updating this more or less regularly I appreciate all
-the packaging improvements Debian made like improving readme
-and the generation of the key from the verified XML at build
-time. Hence I'd (just like Debian did) go for a backport
-of the most recent version, over just picking the key content.
-That is easier to review, easier to maintain, and as long
-as there are no build issues better to ensure all active
-releases are on the same state.

Would be nice to get a fix backported, rather than those of us
constrained to use LTS having to wait another two years. Though I don’t
know if there’s a policy that only certain types or urgencies of bugs
get that.

[Bug 2089230] [NEW] Sync mhash 0.9.9.9-10 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-11-21 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:

Please sync mhash 0.9.9.9-10 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * debian: Backport patch for building with gcc14

This patch is namely 0018-mhash-0.9.9.9-cast-temp-64bit.patch, which
is present now in the -10 version as 0019-pointer-cast.patch.

Therefore the package can be safely synced. A local build with
dpkg-buildpackage was fine.

Changelog entries since current plucky version 0.9.9.9-9ubuntu1:

mhash (0.9.9.9-10) unstable; urgency=low

  * Use secure URI in Homepage field.
  * Update standards version to 4.7.0, no changes needed.
  * Clean mhash.pc (closes: #1048670)
  * Patches:
- mv configure.in to configure.ac and autoupdate
- explicit pointer cast (closes: 1075269)
- call a callback that needs to be called (closes: #777190)

[Bug 2089232] [NEW] audio corruption since kernel >6.8, solved temporarily by restarting pipewire

2024-11-21 Thread bluppfisk
Public bug reported:

After a period of time, it seems utterly random but can be provoked by
seeking forward/backward in videos (e.g. Youtube, VLC media player ...),
all audio will sound metallic and corrupted.

The quick "solution" is to restart pipewire (`systemctl --user restart
pipewire`), but this comes at the expense of my microphone no longer
working in active applications (e.g. Chrome) until I restart them.

I had experienced this bug before with mainline kernels for Ubuntu
24.04. I then put it down to those kernels not being optimised for
Ubuntu, and reverted to the official 6.8 kernel.

However, since upgrading to Ubuntu 24.10 which ships with the 6.11
kernel, the issue has returned, so I believe I can single out the kernel
as the culprit.

System:
- Meteor Lake chipset with integrated audio

Symptom:
- "Metallic" or "robotic" sound, across all applications, with no discernable
cause

Ways to reproduce:
- There may be many hours between occurrences
- It seems to occur more frequently when seeking in video
- It *seems* to occur more frequently on battery and power saving mode

[Bug 2089233] [NEW] Focal update: v5.4.285 upstream stable release

2024-11-21 Thread Manuel Diewald
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream

   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream

Hi Jay,

On second thought, I'll include the fix in Plucky to proceed with the
SRUs as fast as possible. Later, when the fix arrives in Debian, we can
manually resync dnsmasq. This way, we unlock this.

I hope this helps you and the Ironic community. Sorry for the comings

[Bug 2062118] Re: autopkgtests fail on s390x (segfault)

2024-11-21 Thread Pragyansh Chaturvedi
I spent some time on this, as the tests in utest/ were segfaulting.
Turns out this is an endianness issue in libtraceeevent.
In libtraceevent/src/event_parse.c, we have:

```
/**
 * tep_alloc - create a tep handle
 */
struct tep_handle *tep_alloc(void)
{
struct tep_handle *tep = calloc(1, sizeof(*tep));
if (tep) {
tep->ref_count = 1;
tep->host_bigendian = tep_is_bigendian();
}
return tep;
}
```

So on s390x, tep->host_bigendian is TEP_BIG_ENDIAN, but
tep->file_bigendian stays the default value (TEP_LITTLE_ENDIAN)

Then in libtracefs/src/kbuffer_parse.c, we have:

```
enum {
KBUFFER_FL_HOST_BIG_ENDIAN  = (1<<0),
KBUFFER_FL_BIG_ENDIAN   = (1<<1),
KBUFFER_FL_LONG_8   = (1<<2),
KBUFFER_FL_OLD_FORMAT   = (1<<3),
};
#define ENDIAN_MASK (KBUFFER_FL_HOST_BIG_ENDIAN | KBUFFER_FL_BIG_ENDIAN)
...
static int do_swap(struct kbuffer *kbuf)
{
return ((kbuf->flags & KBUFFER_FL_HOST_BIG_ENDIAN) + kbuf->flags) &
ENDIAN_MASK;
}
```

kbuf->flags is populated based off the tep_handle object. So the tests
fail because libtraceevent thinks the files it opens are stored in
little endian format, while actually it is the other way round.

My fix was to change `tep->host_bigendian = tep_is_bigendian();` to
`tep->host_bigendian = tep->file_bigendian = tep_is_bigendian();`

We can make a default assumption that the host and FS endianness is
same. If it is different, the user must set the correct endianness using
the event-parse-api (tep_set_file_bigendian)

I am not sure if this must go upstream as well, and even if this would
be the right fix. But it does fix the tests

```
Run Summary:TypeTotal  Ran   Passed Failed Inactive
  suites11  n/a  00
   tests   36   36   35  10
 asserts 16407066 16407066 16407064  2  n/a
Elapsed time =   22.623 seconds
```

   * In the past on updates the self check on hints of named
     were quite useful here when it was updating to the new
     keys (see bug 2045297). But this time we are not so very
     late (which is good) and thereby that simple test does not
     work yet (not so good).

  TODO - we can likely only compare against the upstream checksums this time
then?
  TODO - maybe use the readout tool against the content from upstream and
verify it's content matches
  TODO - while the named check and fetch will not serve as a verification, it
still is something we want to ensure is still working after the update

  [ Where problems could occur ]

   * This isn't code, purely a data file for services that need to know
     about dns root servers. Thereby there is no code in the package itself
     that would fail, but potential regressions would be in the dependencies.
     Those are (and we can more consciously look out for those):

  Reverse-Recommends
  ==
  * dnsmasq-base [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * dnsmasq-base-lua [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * ldnsutils [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * libbellesip2 [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * unbound
  * unbound-host

  Reverse-Depends
  ===
  * bind9
  * dnsviz
  * hash-slinger [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * knot-resolver [amd64 arm64 armhf]
  * libgetdns10 [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * libreswan [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * opendkim [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x]
  * pdns-recursor [amd64 arm64 ppc64el s390x]

     => https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1076995

+ * This is structurally a similar update to the past bug 2045297
+
   * Given that this is changing only data and that we likely need
-    to expect updating this more or less regularly I appreciate all
-    the packaging improvements Debian made like improving readme
-    and the generation of the key from the verified XML at build
-    time. Hence I'd (just like Debian did) go for a backport
-    of the most recent version, over just picking the key content.
+    to expect updating this more or less regularly I appreciate to
+get all the packaging improvements Debian made like improving
+readme and updating the generation of the key from the verified
+XML at build time to the new rfc.
+Hence I'd (just like Debian did) go for a backport of the most
+recent version, over just picking the key content.
     That is easier to review, easier to maintain, and as long
     as there are no build issues better to ensure all active
     releases are on the same state.

  The corresponding Debian bug is .

  (Some software can automatically update the trust anchor, as long as
  it's running and connected to the Internet often enough; some cannot.)

[Bug 2089012] Re: virtio-net slowdown and error message ens3: bad gso: type: 1, size: 1448

2024-11-21 Thread pnomblot
Hello All,

I confirm the bug on
  Nutanix AHV el7.nutanix.20220304.511 running Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
5.15.0-125-generic
with
  Ethernet controller: Red Hat, Inc. Virtio network device

I also confirm that disabling "Generic Segmentation Offload" solv the
issue. For exemple   :

  ethtool -K ens3 gso off

in case we use ens3 interface.
I hope this info can help.

Many thanks

[Bug 2075477] Re: SRU: Backport LLVM 18.1.8 to Ubuntu LTS

2024-11-21 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
We do periodic toolchain updates like this one here, so essentially it's
not wrong to request this. However I do agree with Simon and I'd prefer
the llvm packages to be built in a clean, security-only PPA so that we
can do a binary copy to -proposed. For both series these will be
essentially NEW packages, but I would still prefer them to appear in
both -updates and -security, due to their nature (and the nature of
packages that could depend on them).

In general this can go through -proposed (for more exposure and
testing), but with the idea in mind that this will go to -security. So,
as mentioned above, we'd need to have it built in a PPA with only
security enabled - and then synced from that.

[Bug 2087565] Re: Update gnome-control-center to 46.5

2024-11-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  This is a minor point release update for Gnome Control Center, which has
  a minor release exception:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME.

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/blob/46.5/NEWS

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-
  center/-/compare/46.4...46.5

  [ Test Plan ]

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GnomeControlCenter

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  gnome-control-center is used by Ubuntu Desktop and Edubuntu.
  It is a critical app for viewing and changing a huge variety of settings for
these desktops.
+
+ The new version has changes on those panels
+ - About (hostname)
+ - Apps (epiphany webapps)
+ - Accessibility (repeat key)
+ - Color (shot detail, actions buttons)
+ - Date&Time (auto timezone, resizing)
+ - Online Accounts (account provider translations)
+ - Region&Language (system language)
+ - Wacom
+
+ So the regression testing should focus on the corresponding pages

[Bug 2055200] Re: tests-in-lxd is broken with latest autopkgtest version

2024-11-21 Thread Nick Rosbrook
This log shows the tests-in-lxd test passing now:
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
jammy/jammy/amd64/s/systemd/20241120_155239_e1b7a@/log.gz.

The autopkgtest run overall fails due an existing failure in networkd-
test.py, but that is unrelated. Unfortunately that test comes and goes
in flaky-ness.

[Bug 2089273] Re: Add soundwire support for AMD platforms

2024-11-21 Thread Leo Lin
** Description changed:

- Add non-sof soundwire support to AMD platforms
-
  [ Impact ]

  This patch series introduce soundwire support for AMD platform, as well
  as code reorganization in preparation for that.

  [ Test ]

  1. Install the test kernel
  2. Install proper alsa-ucm-confs
  3. Confirm the audio function normally on the DUT with 1) AMD soundwire and
2) existing Intel platforms using soundwire. Might include:

  * Checkbox audio test plan
  * Built-in speaker and built-in mic
  * Audio function when headphone is connected to the DUT.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

  Patches needed, other than 3 SAUCE patches that planned to upstream in
  6.13 cycle, are listed in [1] to [8] below.

  Soundwire used to appear mostly on Intel platforms and is almost always
  in combination with sof. To support AMD, it has to be refactored into a
  more generic framework (or at least that's what AMD people did). This
  happens in patch series [1][2] and [3], extracting soundwire code from
  the sound/soc/intel directory to a more generic location, as well as
  rename/refactor things to better fit the ASoC context. This will impact
  all other soundwire platforms and if not done correctly, regression risk
  may be high.

  The all other patch sets other than [5] are AMD specific, so
  theoretically the impact is limited to AMD platforms with soundwire,
  which are rather uncommon.

[Bug 2089012] Re: virtio-net slowdown and error message ens3: bad gso: type: 1, size: 1448

2024-11-21 Thread Jon Kohler
Ok gotcha. Perhaps someone from Ubuntu side can help illuminate when
that would be available, I'm not familiar with the release cadence here.

We're certainly open to back-n-forth discussions here if this commit
doesn't fix the issue, or other issues remain, but given what we went
through on other kernels, I'm fairly sure this is our culprit.

[Bug 2089236] [NEW] Remove NBS 32-bit postgresql extension packages, part 5

2024-11-21 Thread Adrien Nader
Public bug reported:

This is a follow-up to #208800{3,4,5,6} as I've identified a few more
affected packages.

I'm copying Jeremy's original description at the end of this
description.

The affected packages are:

- pgpointcloud
- pgnodemx
- pgmemcache
- pglogical
- pgfincore
- pgextwlist
- mobilitydb

I ran the following to check for reverse-dependencies:

for p in pgpointcloud pgnodemx pgmemcache pglogical pgfincore pgextwlist
mobilitydb; do
(reverse-depends -a armhf -r plucky -R -l src:${p}; reverse-depends -a armhf -r
plucky -R -l -b src:${p}) | grep . && echo $p
done

Only pglogical has reverse-dependencies:

- pgl-ddl-deploy: source package, asked for removal in #2088006
- pglogical-ticker: source package, asked for removal in #2088006
- postgresql-16-pglogical-ticker: binary package, which source is
pglogical-ticker above

There is a special package: mobilitydb which is a new package and never
got out of proposed (also postgresql even if it's not in the name).

Jeremy's description:

Please remove the postgresql extension packages on armhf since they are
no intentionally no longer built.

[Bug 2089141] Re: Opensc smart cards do not work in the snapped browsers

2024-11-21 Thread Nathan Teodosio
The module is there in the newest Chromium stable 131.

Chromium does not have the graphical interface for that, it seems the
way to configure that is with NSS3 tools.

So, not tested:

  snap connect chromium:pcscd
  apt install libnss3-tools
  modutil -dbdir sql:.pki/nssdb/ -add "OpenSC" -libfile
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opensc-pkcs11.so

[Bug 2089259] [NEW] GCC14 C++ CTAD failure due to ambiguous overload

2024-11-21 Thread Paul Fee
Public bug reported:

While using a C++ compile time fixed_string library, I encountered an
issue with Ubuntu's version of GCC 14.

I tried a number of combinations:
* GCC-13, C++20: Pass
* GCC-13, C++23: Pass
* GCC-14, C++20: Pass
* GCC-14, C++23: Fail

Same results on both Ubuntu 24.04 (g++-14 14.2.0-4ubuntu2~24.04) and
Ubuntu 24.10 (g++-14 14.2.0-4ubuntu2).

Testing on another distro (OpenSUSE Tumbleweed,
gcc-c++-14-2.1.x86_64.rpm) all combinations passed.

Distro compiler versions reported by "g++-14 -v"
Ubuntu 24.04: gcc version 14.2.0 (Ubuntu 14.2.0-4ubuntu2~24.04)
Ubuntu 24.10: gcc version 14.2.0 (Ubuntu 14.2.0-4ubuntu2)
Tumbleweed: gcc version 14.2.1 20241007 [revision
4af44f2cf7d281f3e4f3957efce10e8b2ccb2ad3] (SUSE Linux)

I've stripped down the code in question to produce a minimal
reproducible example (see attachment).

Since the code works with GCC-14 on another distro, is Ubuntu's package
lacking upstream updates?

[Bug 2089245] [NEW] New usptream release 550.135

2024-11-21 Thread Kuba Pawlak
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
These releases provide both bug fixes and new features, and we would like to
make sure all of our users have access to these improvements.

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

[Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NVidiaUpdates

Certification test suite must pass on a range of hardware:
https://git.launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-sru/tree/units/sru.pxu

The QA team that executed the tests will be in charge of attaching the
artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. nVidia
maintainers team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this
has happened.

[Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned system level tests are attached to this bug.

[Bug 2083479] Re: 24.04: single screen gets stuck and no more updates (5 monitor setup with i915 and DisplayLink)

2024-11-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Two more details
First, on shutdown the splash screen (Ubuntu + Lenovo in my case) is visible
again on the display that was formerly off

And then a really stupid issue, I mentioned above I disabled the screen
in setting. Well it comes back up disabled, and it can still not enable
it due to "Changes can not be Applied" "This could be due to hardware
limitations". So if you are out there - do NOT try this as a test and
get stuck as well :-)

[Bug 2089274] [NEW] rapidjson fails to build from source on plucky due to `-Werror=stringop-overflow` in unittests

2024-11-21 Thread Octavio Galland
Public bug reported:

During compilation of unit tests the following error arised:

```
cd /<>/obj-x86_64-linux-gnu/test/unittest && /usr/bin/c++
-I/<>/include -isystem /usr/src/gtest/include -isystem
into a region of size 12 [-Werror=stringop-overflow=]
  | ~~^~
```

This seems to occur in the latest version of upstream when using
gcc-14_14.2.0-8ubuntu1, due to unit tests being built with the `-Werror`
option, and a `stringop-overflow` warning being raised in
`test/unittest/itoatest.cpp`.

Upstream GCC has received multiple reports on spurious `stringop-
overflow` warnings (e.g.
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=101134) and this has
already been reported to the upstream rapidjson project as well
(https://github.com/Tencent/rapidjson/issues/2003). Given that both
projects are aware of the issue and that this is an issue in the code
for the unit tests, I think it makes sense to disable this specific
warning when building the test suite.
