[Bug 2078533] Re: Realtek b851 Wifi Card Doesn't work
OK, I got it fixed but I'm not 100% sure how it was fixed. Earlier I followed your instruction (Turned it off, disconnected power, held power button for 30 seconds), turned it on and it wasn't working. I then went into the BIOS, reset to defaults and tested it but the WiFi card was still not working. Today I decided to open the laptop up to try and find the CMOS battery, but it looks like you need to disassemble about 90% of this laptop just to get to the CMOS battery (I'm assuming it's behind the motherboard like some other ASUS laptops, because it's not visible when I open the cover). I then decided to close it up without fully disassembling it and write back to you what I'd done so far, however I noticed that the WiFi was suddenly working. [Bug 2031969] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: Suspend & Power off
Also with kernel 6.6.17 problems have shown up at some point, as so often before with this issue. Completely random. Resume did not work. But deactivating intel_iommu seems to be the solution. Works great, no matter if 6.6.17 or 6.8.0. [Bug 2078494] Re: After upgrade to 24.04.1 LTS pg_upgradecluster fails
I'm afraid I can't add much to the original report - it's too long ago, and I can't backtrack to try to repeat the exercise. The Noble upgrade installed PG16 and created the new cluster with a new port number above the normal, and all looked ok until I ran "sudo pg_upgradecluster 14 main", at which point I got the previously-reported errors. I tried to re-install the package, but that left me with the same problem. So I fixed it by manually changing the port numbers for the '14' cluster and then the new '16' cluster; then created myself as a new administrator, then created empty databases; and then remade the databases from the relevant datadumps. All then worked fine, so I dropped the old '14' cluster - which is why I can't backtrack to repeat the exercise. The critical point in the error is 'The program "postgres" is needed by pg_ctl but was not found in the same directory as "/usr/lib/postgresql/14/bin/pg_ctl"'. But in needing to get my database systems up and running again, I didn't check that, and wouldn't have been entirely sure what exactly to do anyway, given versioning problems. pg_upgradecluster should perhaps check such potential errors earlier, and be precise about what it needs. There is a 'postgres' in /usr/lib/postgresql/16/bin, but "14/bin" has been removed in the purge of '14', so I can't check it ... [Bug 2080715] Re: Add PowerShell to APT repository
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. [Bug 2002358] Re: Screen turned off after seconds of inactivity, fixed by xset -dpms; bug depending on kernel version?
I've noticed on Ubuntu 24.04 this appears to occur due to a mismatch between how Xorg blanks the screen and the configuration gnome-settings- daemon applies. If you go into GSD -> Power -> Screen Blank and set it to "Never", then go to Privacy & Security -> Blank Screen Delay -> Never, xset q still reports Screen Saver: prefer blanking yes, allow exposures: yes, timeout 600 cycle 600. In other words, changing the configuration in GSD does not actually turn off the screen saver in Xorg. However, this issue does not appear to impact Wayland. I was able to figure this out because my AMD box on Wayland doesn't have this problem, only my NVidia box on Xorg. A workaround is setting putting "xset s off" in your .bashrc or .xinitrc, but that still means that the configuration in GSD won't actually control your screen blank. ** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2002358 Title: Screen turned off after seconds of inactivity, fixed by xset -dpms; bug depending on kernel version? [Bug 2080355] Re: Kernel trouble, with some trace, 6.8.0-44-generic
**I have a bunch of other problems, that **could** be related? #2078572, #2078564,#2078571. And the system crashes almost daily. 'Crash'? I tried to look through the previous dmesg, kern, journalctl, whatnot. Nothing to be seen. The system simply stops responding to any input, except of a looong pressing of the power button (it's in principle a tablet PC). After shutdown, which it sometimes does, mostly not (then it gets stuck after everything IS off; see journalctl), until I press the power button. And if it does shut down respectively 'restart', it doesn't. No power button action can bring it back; only waiting for half an hour, and then mostly the application of the power supply (it is set start with coming up of the power supply in the BIOS). All pretty much getting on my nerves. As I wrote, I don't know if any of these are in some way related, but I can confirm that the drive is okay, and so is the hardware: There is W10 installed in parallel, and it works, sorry to say, perfectly okay, shuts down, reboots, mounts the same drives, stays responsive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080355 Title: Kernel trouble, with some trace, 6.8.0-44-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2080355/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2080737] [NEW] One out of two times, the bluetooth audio doesn't register
Public bug reported: Since the release update from 22.4 to 24.4.1, everything else unchanged, my bluetooth audio fails in one out of two cases. Usually, I used to turn it on by turning on my Bose Solo 5. Then, it was set to be the primary audio drain. It is clear that a defect exists, because: 1. The panel shows the buetooth as connected to Bose Solo 5, including the 'connect' icon. 2. It is impossible, however, to "Disconnect", irrespective how often I click the "Disconnect". Also when I switch off the Bose system, it remains "connected" until the system is shut down or crashes. 3. Neither in the audio drain selection, nor in the PulseAudio Volume Control is the Bose System 5 to be seen. One of of two cases, after starting the system, it works okay (like it had been doing for years with earlier kubuntu distributions). So far I was not able to detect circumstances under which it would (not) work. I attach a screenshot showing the 'connected' status, while the drain remains inaccessible. [Bug 2080739] [NEW] installer manually partition, next button is grayed out
Public bug reported: During the 24.04.1LTS installer, on the manually partition page, the next button is greyed out if your hard-drive already had a legacy-boot version of Ubuntu on it. If there is not already a uefi partition on your hard-drive, then the Next button is never enabled, and all the options of choosing a drive on which to install the boot sector are also greyed out. Hence the only way to get past this page is to go back, and choose "standard install" instead of "manual partition". That workaround works (but then it formats your whole hard drive, which is not ideal!) Also, there should be a way to create a UEFI partition from this screen, but there isn't. These are both showstoppers for encouraging new users onto Ubuntu. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080739 Title: installer manually partition, next button is grayed out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2080739/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2080740] [NEW] There is no way to add a UEFI boot partition on the Manually-Partition page of the installer
Public bug reported: On the Ubuntu 24.04.1LTS installer, on the Manually-Partition page, there is no way to set up a partition to host the UEFI boot loader, if it doesn't already exist. When you add a new partition, the only formats available are EXT4, etc. But what format should we choose for the UEFI boot partition? There doesn't seem to be one (or if there is, it's certainly not at all clear). This should be fixed. It's a show-stopper. It prevents you getting past the manual-partition page, unless you are lucky enough to already have such a UEFI partition on your HDD. (I've also raised a related bug 2080739 about when this UEFI partition is missing, the NEXT button on the manual-partition page is permanently disabled.) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080740 Title: There is no way to add a UEFI boot partition on the Manually-Partition page of the installer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2080740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2000063] Re: rdp password changes if autologin
I have discovered a workaround that prevents the password from changing after a reboot. However, it involves storing the passwords in an unencrypted format. In my case, this is not a significant issue since the system is only active for a few minutes while I work on it, but I would not advise this method for companies and their employees who may also be facing this issue. [Bug 2080741] [NEW] dpkg continues to need configuring upon installs maybe
Public bug reported: I have had this going on for 3 months, nearly every time I install a package with "apt install package" it says dpkg needs to be configured. This latest one was while trying to do this: https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports It needed 'dpkg --configure a', it always needs that for installing a new package that way now. I also sometimes have a screen freeze where mouse cursor is not shown and nothing works except screen showing what was last displayed, I have to force power off and restart and it like always has to clear orphaned inodes. Here is another bug report I did for reference. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492993 Feel free to ask if you have any questions or further things you want. I am on regular Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS Desktop Pro on an upgraded Lenovo Thinkpad T460. For example, an OPF file (which is part of many digital books) is an XML file, but is often encoded as text/plain. I want to open it with kxmleditor (always), so I right click, "open with", and choose ~"always do this" so that any time I click on an OPF again it opens in kxmleditor. This is fine, but now all of a sudden ALL text/plain files open in kxmleditor (even foo.txt, etc). This is clearly wrong, and counterintuitive. Even if the mime type *is* correct, there are different kinds of XML (for example) that I might want to open in different applications. I think the strategy should be that "open with" looks to see if it has a mapping for the file type *first*, and then only secondly at the mime type. Additionally, when you click "always do this", there should be a dialog that says: Which of the following should always be opened with _kxmleditor_: [ ] all text files [X] all .opf files [Save] [Cancel] Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kdebase/+bug/139346/comments/1 On 2008-11-27T13:57:03+00:00 David Faure wrote: Yes, we should dynamically create a mimetype if the current extension isn't known. [Bug 2080182] Re: System hangs after GDM login with 6.8.0 kernel
Thank you for the response! I ran memtest from the GRUB boot menu and let it run for 3 passes - it reported no errors. Next I booted into an Ubuntu 24.04 live ISO and to my surprise the desktop environment hung after login, just the same as on my live system! I flashed an Ubuntu 22.04 live ISO and had the same result when booting into it. This is perhaps unsurprising as it looks like the newer 22.04 ISOs are using kernel 6.8.0-40, as I saw when inspecting the bundled vmlinuz image in the one I flashed. I could, however, edit the GRUB command-line on live ISO boot and switch to single-user mode, which was functional. From there, I ran "short" self-test via smartctl for 1 minute and it reported no errors. Here are the statistics shown: Spin_Up_Time 0 Start_Stop_Count 0 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 11 Power_On_Hours 15314 Power_Cycle_Count 907 Unsafe_Shutdown_Count 87 Host_Writes_32MiB 82277 Workld_Media_Wear_Indic 11812 Workld_Host_Reads_Perc 0 Workload_Minutes 3658413212 Available_Reservd_Space 0 Media_Wearout_Indicator 0 End-to-End_Error 0 I also ran fsck on my root ext4 partition on the HDD and it reported that it was clean. I did see in the smartctl output that a firmware update from Intel was recommended, so I flashed and ran the firmware update tool provided at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26491. This reported that there were no Intel devices attached though, so I guess that might have been a false positive. How would you recommend proceeding? Did I miss some diagnostics on memtest or smartctl, or do these results indicate that the hardware is more or less functional? The fact that the system hangs on the new kernel version even from the live ISO, but does not have any issues with the old kernel version (even with all other system files the same), seems to indicate to me that it really is a conflict with the new kernel, and not a hardware issue or problem with corrupted files. But, I could be wrong. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080182 Title: System hangs after GDM login with 6.8.0 kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2080182/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2080744] [NEW] Kernel 6.10.2 Illegal Instruction from Botan 2.19.3 at KeepassXC 2.7.9
Public bug reported: ## Overview KeePassXC crashes on illegal instruction with installed dependency libbotan-2-19 in interaction with later kernels such as 6.10.2. Kernel 6.8.0-44 is not affected. May become an issue when later kernel arrives. ## Steps to Reproduce 1. Install later kernels as Ubuntu will have them such as 6.10.2: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/?C=N;O=D 1. Run `sudo apt install keepassxc` to get keepassxc and related dependencies 2. Run `keepassxc` from command line to see errors 4. Run `journalctl -xe` to see if system saw what happened 5. Further investigation by building from source code with libbotan-2-dev, and running keepassxc from git tag 2.7.9 did not help. 6. [Bug 2080745] [NEW] Subiquity curtin apt-get insatll fails from cdrom files
Public bug reported: First of all I am not sure that is about a bug or misunderstanding of a concept. I am trying to make a custom ISO w/ autoinstall to automatically install Ubuntu Server 24.04.1 LTS onto our machines. We of course need to install some extra apt packages as part of the customization. The problem is, this installation needs to be done entirely offline (mostly with rj45 unplugged), so I can't just add them to the apt package list and have subiquity magic take care of everything. Briefly: - Extract iso. I'll call the extracted dir 'iso'; - Add the packages to iso/pool/universe/path/to/package.deb; added also deps (apt-get --print-uris --yes install "$package" | grep ^\' | cut -d\' -f2); - Then to add them to the Packages and Packages.gz file that lists all the available packages by calling; - Update the the Release file; - Create a gpg key and sign the Release file; - Add the public key (gpg) to trusted keys in ubuntu-server-minimal.ubuntu-server.squashfs. - resumm md5 (cd image && find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 md5sum | grep -v "\./md5sum.txt" > md5sum.txt) For testing purpose I downloaded traceroute. user-data looks like: #cloud-config autoinstall: version: 1 source: id: ubuntu-server shutdown: poweroff packages: - traceroute identity: realname: 'UntouchedWagons' username: ubuntu password: 'secret' hostname: local-host locale: en_US.UTF-8 keyboard: layout: us timezone: "Europe/Athena" storage: layout: name: lvm sizing-policy: all ssh: allow-pw: true install-server: true authorized-keys: - some-keys I've also tried variations and combinations of the above where I've also specified a "late-commands:" or "network:" section, detailed late. [Bug 2080747] [NEW] upgrade failed while calculating upgrade
Public bug reported: Attempted the upgrade four times. From: Description:Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS Release:22.04 to 24.04 Upgrade Command: pkexec do-release-upgrade -m desktop -f DistUpgradeViewKDE I expected the normal upgrade to ocurr. While building a package list ( I think ) an error window popped up saying: "Could not calculate the upgrade", along with a suspected cause of 'Unofficial software packages...', and instructions to use the tool 'ppa-purge'. [Bug 2080635] Re: Wrong Battery Reading after Wake from S3 Sleep
Hi Paul, Let's have a look. ubuntu-noble$ git log --grep "thermal: core: Change PM notifier priority to the minimum" origin/master-next commit 80123fe6fcc3f72ee6fbe7bc6c64043b9e4c91e1 Author: Rafael J. Wysocki Date: Fri Jun 14 17:26:00 2024 +0200 thermal: core: Change PM notifier priority to the minimum BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2075154 commit 494c7d055081da066424706b28faa9a4c719d852 upstream. It is reported that commit 5a5efdaffda5 ("thermal: core: Resume thermal zones asynchronously") causes battery data in sysfs on Thinkpad P1 Gen2 to become invalid after a resume from S3 (and it is necessary to reboot the machine to restore correct battery data). Some investigation into the problem indicated that it happened because, after the commit in question, the ACPI battery PM notifier ran in parallel with thermal_zone_device_resume() for one of the thermal zones which apparently confused the platform firmware on the affected system. While the exact reason for the firmware confusion remains unclear, it is arguably not particularly relevant, and the expected behavior of the affected system can be restored by making the thermal PM notifier run at the lowest priority which avoids interference between work items spawned by it and the other PM notifiers (that will run before those work items now). [Bug 2067657] Re: Cursor response to touchpad sporadically becomes laggy
I have the same issue. Mostly, the touchpad works great, no issues, but then at times, it becomes laggy, having a delay, so it is not responsive, and I can feel it being sluggish moving the cursor around and definitely losing the precision. I believe the OS does not need to sleep and wake up for this issue to occur, I think I also encountered the issue when I freshly booted the OS, then used it for a couple of hours, maybe locking the screen, unlocking (but not putting the laptop to sleep). Currently running 24.04.1 LTS on Thinkpad T14s Gen 4, and it still happens. Also can confirm that with an external mouse it does not happen. (I also have an Apple Magic trackpad, not sure if it affects it too, so if I find out I will report on it) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2067657 Title: Cursor response to touchpad sporadically becomes laggy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2067657/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
