[Bug 1906720] Re: Fix the disable_ssl_certificate_validation option

2021-01-20 Thread Robie Basak
Please add a regression analysis as required by
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure.

In particular, please take some steps here to make sure that we don't
accidentally disable certificate validation across the board - since
that would have severe consequences, we're messing with "should we check
the certificate" code, and the problem wouldn't be detected just by
checking this bug is fixed.

That's the most obvious possible issue to me, but please consider and
add anything else relevant.

[Bug 1878041] Re: installation fails creating user on large multipath system - multipathd show command times out in curtin log with 163 paths

2021-01-20 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Hi, can you try again with suiquity-channel=edge/lp1878041 please? If it
fails, and it's possible, can you attach the .crash file here? Error
reports to the tracker get truncated in ways that make them a bit less
useful for this sort of thing (it is also hard to find a specific
report).

The initramfs failure sounds worrying, can you file a separate bug about
that?

[Bug 1911463] Re: Can no longer successfully download Flash during postinst

2021-01-20 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
hm, I actually don't like the new version numbering - it is very
confusing. Since this is a straight backport of 1.8.8, suddenly using
1.8.7ubuntuX.Y.1 seems weird - this implies that this is based on 1.8.7,
which it is not (as the changelog entry only mentions a straight
backport). In such cases where 1.8.8ubuntuX.Y.1 can't be used, I think
Gunnar's 1.8.8~ubuntuX.Y.1 is the proper way to go. Let me sync those.

[Bug 1912464] [NEW] Minor release upgrade - 19.11.6

2021-01-20 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
now that DPDK 20.11 is properly in Ubuntu 21.04 it is time to consider
backporting the fixes to our active releases. As usual upstream provides LTS
minor releases for their .11 versions.

Due to some delay by no more doing every interim release in -dev
(only.11 are worthwhile to be considered by dependent projects) and due
to some CVEs in 19.11.3-0ubuntu0.2 this has accumulated quite some
changes.

This bug tracks an update for the DPDK packages in:
- Focal 19.11.3 -> 19.11.6
- Groovy 19.11.5 -> 19.11.6
Ready as of late December 2020.
17.11.x (Bionic) is no more getting such releases by upstream and 20.11
(Hirsute) is new and up to date.

This update includes bugfixes only following the SRU policy exception
defined at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/DPDK.

No new features added, a classic stable release with a bunch of fixes
aggregated and enhanced testing by the companies being part of the DPDK
community.

[Impact]

Stable release update so not directly applicable; see the exception policy
document linked above.
For Reference - former cases are here:
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk/+bug/1817675
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk/+bug/1836365

[Major Changes]

As listed by upstream

For Focal:
19.11.4 https://doc.dpdk.org/guides-19.11/rel_notes/release_19_11.html#id7
19.11.5 https://doc.dpdk.org/guides-19.11/rel_notes/release_19_11.html#id11

For Focal&Groovy:
19.11.6 https://doc.dpdk.org/guides-19.11/rel_notes/release_19_11.html#id14

[Test Plan]

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/DPDK#SRU_TestVerify
TODO: attach a log of executing said tests from a ppa with the upload
TODO: if there are any non passing tests - explain why that is ok in this case.

[Regression Potential]

Upstream performs extensive testing before release, giving us a high
degree of confidence in the general case. There problems are most likely
to manifest in Ubuntu-specific integrations, such as in relation to the
versions of dependencies available and other packaging-specific matters.

[Bug 1911463] Please test proposed package

2021-01-20 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello feren, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pepperflashplugin-nonfree into bionic-proposed. The package
will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/1.8.8~ubuntu18.04.1 in a few hours, and then
in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1908284] Re: [snap] chromium headless crashes at startup on non-desktop system

2021-01-20 Thread Olivier Tilloy
I can reliably observe the problem on a system without a desktop
environment, and I can confirm that installing ubuntu-desktop-minimal
and then reinstalling the snap makes the problem go away.

This is a regression that appeared when switching to using the
gnome-3-28 extension.

After removing again ubuntu-desktop-minimal and all its dependencies,
and reinstalling the snap, the snap still works, so the root of the
problem is not really a missing dependency, but more likely user
files/folders created when installing those packages or when installing
the snap (configure hook maybe).

[Bug 1912468] [NEW] OpenAFS emergency release 1.8.7

2021-01-20 Thread Holger Motzkau
Public bug reported:

On 14 Jan 2021 08:25:36 AM UTC Unix epoch time reached 0x6000 breaking
generation of Rx connection IDs, and AFS stopped working on all systems running
openafs 1.8.x, including 1.8.0~pre5-1 currently the latest available version

[Bug 1899288] Re: Python3 can't co-exist with Oracle's VirtualBox on 20.10

2021-01-20 Thread Sergio Callegari
Still true of the deb packages provided by upstream for Virtualbox
6.1.18.

The problem is really with the packaging on their side which does not
target ubuntu 20.10. In fact, they say so by indicating that they have a
deb up to 19.10 and 20.04.

I guess there is little that ubuntu can do if Virtualbox does not want
to package a deb for ubuntu 20.10 that is not an LTS. Most likely,
they'll stick to 20.04 and start supporting newer ubuntu at 21.10 in
preparation for the 22.04 LTS release.

On the other hand, I believe that ubuntu could help a lot here by making
the current virtualbox always available in testing version on a PPA.

[Bug 1779657] Re: apt autoremove not removing old kernels

2021-01-20 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Sean:

What you quoted is the part that tells apt to not remove kernel _meta_
packages. Individual kernels are automatically removed subject to the
kernel autoremoval helper script output in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d
/01autoremove-kernels; which keeps up to 3 kernels around.

Note that this stops working if you manually install a certain kernel
version, as it only works for automatically installed kernel versions.

[Bug 1912469] [NEW] Doubleclick on a keyword (if more than 2 words are highlighted) with a subsequent wheel action triggers a scroll of the screen, the current scroll is lost, how to avoid this?

2021-01-20 Thread Ulrich Stefenelli

Hi,

usually if a keyword is doubleclicked all other occurrences are highlighted.
However if more than 2 keywords are highlighted then a subsequent mouse-wheel

Is it a feature or a bug?
How can I keep the current scroll position?

per check ledmon in focal, it does run as a daemon.

I got access to a machine that can use ledctl from ledmon to control the

AI: try to build vroc raid on it, and check if the raid status will
cause the led pattern change in certain statuses of the raid (ex:

[Bug 1907421] Re: [UBUNTU 21.04] vfio: pass DMA availability information to userspace

2021-01-20 Thread Frank Heimes
Hi Matthew,
I'm updating the hirsute entry to Fix Committed, since the 5.10 kernel is in
hirsute-proposed
and the requested patch is included:
Ubuntu-5.10.0-12.13
v5.10
So we are good with 21.04/hirsute.

And it's great that see that you've managed to get it accepted via upstream
stable, since this provides a lot of confidence about the fix that we need for
an LTS SRU - and since we have a process in place to pick up stable (upstream)
updates, that will find (semi-automatically) it's way into 20.04/focal's Ubuntu
kernel 5.4 soon.
So this is highly appreciated.

However, to avoid any regression for people who upgrade from an Ubuntu release
n to n+1 (in this case 20.04/focal to 20.10/groovy) one requirement of our SRU
process is to get the patches in to the Ubuntu releases/kernels starting from
newest to the oldest Ubuntu release the patch needs to be applied to.
Hence me trying to get the patch applied to the groovy master-next tree, based
on kernel 5.8, which failed (LP comment #2) (since we knew it's already in 5.10
which is the target for 21.04).
Well, I can retry to apply the patch to groovy master-next, since the groovy
master-next tree evolved over time, but I guess it still does not apply - hence
me asking for a backport (#2)
Btw. even if 5.8.y ran out of upstream stable support, we still look at the
5.9.y stable updates for inclusion into 5.8. So tagging the fix for stable
5.9.y would be an option, too.

[Bug 1900121] Re: firmware upgrades remove the ubuntu boot loader from EFI boot vars

2021-01-20 Thread ErgoWang
Hi Marius.
I spent some time following the steps and testing them, but the phenomenon
you describe didn't happen. After charging battery to 12% and updating by
"fwupdmgr upgrade", computer restart -> show "Check power failure, please insert
the power source or charge the power" -> power on normally.

Except for the information you provided, I'd like to confirm other details:
Have you ever entered BIOS (or Setup) and pressed "F9". It will excute "Load
default"(or "Setup default").Althrough it seem insignificant, that may cause
the issue you mentioned.

By the way, althrough you charge battery to 12%, the bios upgrades
still failed due to low power. When the battery is above 50% ,bios will
update successfully.

[Bug 1912472] [NEW] Display freezes randomly - high CPU usage

2021-01-20 Thread Tristan Boureau
Public bug reported:

Randomly, system freezes with high CPU usage (cooling fan goes high when
the problem happens) since update to Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS.

Same problem with X11 and Wayland.

Display freezes and keyboard or mouse inputs won't change anything.
Caps and num lock won't react either.

Ctrl+alt+anything doesn't solve the issue.

Only possibility is then to force reboot using power button.

After reboot, I could find in logs :
gnome-shell
libinput error: client bug: timer event6 debounce short: scheduled expiry is in
the past (-15ms), your system is too slow

Problem happens in any situation, for example while videoconferencing
with any software, or using LibreOffice Writer, sometimes with Firefox.

The only common fact seems to be that Firefox is always opened.

[Bug 1892361] Re: SRIOV instance gets type-PF interface, libvirt kvm fails

2021-01-20 Thread Robie Basak
Hello Peter, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nova into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/2:21.1.1-0ubuntu2
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal.

[Bug 1910432] Re: dirmngr doesn't work with kernel parameter ipv6.disable=1

2021-01-20 Thread Robie Basak
> We should look out for potential regressions when connecting to
servers with exclusive IPv4 or IPv6 connectivity, to make sure the
server is not getting marked as 'dead' due to missing one of the
versions.

+1. Please do this during SRU verification, as well as checking that
dual stack works as expected. I accept though that the code path being
added is only when errno == EAFNOSUPPORT so scope for regression is very
limited.

The Hirsute release pocket currently has 2.2.20-1ubuntu1, same as
Groovy. So I can't accept 2.2.20-1ubuntu1 into Groovy, since then the
Hirsute release pocket would be a lower version than what is in Groovy.
I suggest you use 2.2.20-1ubuntu1.20.10.1 based on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging.
Alternatively this problem will be resolved as soon as 2.2.20-1ubuntu2
in hirsute-proposed migrates.

Please fix the Groovy upload, or otherwise ping when fixed. I see no
reason to block right now on accepting the Focal upload, but it would be
nice to get both into proposed and then released at once, so users don't
regress when upgrading from Focal to Groovy.

[Bug 1907421] Re: [UBUNTU 21.04] vfio: pass DMA availability information to userspace

2021-01-20 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
You also mentioned qemu in the description, I think what is related (by title
and it has your name) is the following series + one fixup:

77280d33b s390x: fix build for --without-default-devices
37fa32de70 s390x/pci: Honor DMA limits set by vfio
cd7498d07f s390x/pci: Add routine to get the vfio dma available count
7486a62845 vfio: Find DMA available capability
3ab7a0b40d vfio: Create shared routine for scanning info capabilities
408b55db8b s390x/pci: Move header files to include/hw/s390x
53ba2eee52 linux-headers: update against 5.10-rc1
84567ea763 update-linux-headers: Add vfio_zdev.h

That is in qemu 5.2 - and if that "is it" then in Hirsute things are already
fixed by now.
But that is quite a list and for backports we will need to reduce that to the
minimum that is needed. Did you check if you can (or have even a branch
somewhere) backport these on top of 4.2 and/or 5.0 ?

Also if this shall be an SRU we would need a testcase, is there anything
that can be isolated as test instructions?

[Bug 1912248] Re: virtualenv on xenial: easy_install syntax error

2021-01-20 Thread Philip Roche
This is being tracked in setuptools upstream too

https://github.com/pypa/setuptools/issues/2541

The cause is that python-virtualenv is pulling in setuptools 51.3.3

`virtualenv -p /usr/bin/python3 venv/py3 --verbose`

```
```

But 51.3.0 dropped support for python 3.5 which is what ships with
Xenial.

The fix would be to pin setuptools to `<51.3.0`.

[Bug 1908119] Re: Update and SRU 1.90.8

2021-01-20 Thread Robie Basak
> Security team was happy to have this in, but we preferred to go
through the SRU process in order to have better regression analysis.

That's pretty convincing, since a security update would trump the SRU
process anyway. And it does make sense to use the SRU process for time
to bake in proposed, a more visible opportunity for users to flag
issues, and so forth.

However, I want to make sure that we don't end up in a gap where the
security team think that the SRU team consider it fine and the SRU team
think that the security team think it's fine so nobody actually gives it
the necessary consideration for regression risk. To avoid this kind of
issue, I prefer to avoid basing decisions on hearsay in bugs.

Can I ask, if we're going to accept this on the basis that the security
team require it for security purposes, that the security team review the
upload and then note +1 in this bug?

The reproducer for this fix is using i386 builds of grub-install, which

Thus in practice this is verification-done. If very desired, one could
by hand rebuild grub-install tooling as an i386 binary to try to run it
on older releases.

[Bug 1801267] Re: regina-normal crashes on startup

2021-01-20 Thread Ben Burton
Hi - FYI, after rereading the docs, my understanding is that I should
change verification-needed to verification-done also, since bionic was
the only release that actually needed verifying (and this was done
successfully). So I've just done this now. - Ben.

Hmm, I tested with libseccomp2_2.5.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1_test4_amd64.deb

realised I should have added I'm now using focal not bionic for my

[Bug 1912256] Re: Missing channel binding prevents authentication to ActiveDirectory

2021-01-20 Thread Robert Schneider
I should maybe add the following detail:

Channel binding, from all I can tell, is only available via TLS (even
conceptually). That is, the issue mentioned in the bug report only
happens when using ldaps.

In certain cases, it is therefore possible to work around the lack of
channel binding by _not using TLS_. Typically, you'll have to set minssf
to >=1 if TLS is not used, due to security settings of the LDAP server
(AD DC).

[Bug 1912248] Re: virtualenv on xenial: easy_install syntax error

2021-01-20 Thread Philip Roche
I have found the following workaround on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial

Do not install setuptools on virtualenv creation:

`virtualenv -p /usr/bin/python3 venv/py3 --verbose --no-setuptools`

Install a supported setuptools version after virtualenv creation and
activation:

`python3 -m pip install --upgrade 'setuptools; python_version >= "3.6"'
'setuptools<51.3.0; python_version < "3.6" and python_version >= "3.0"'`

> Ignoring setuptools: markers 'python_version >= "3.6"' don't match your
> environment
> Ignoring setuptools: markers 'python_version < "3.0"' don't match your
> environment
> Collecting setuptools<51.3.0
> Using cached setuptools-50.3.2-py3-none-any.whl (785 kB)
> Installing collected packages: setuptools
> Successfully installed setuptools-50.3.2

or by adding the following to your requirements.txt

```
setuptools; python_version >= "3.6"
setuptools<51.3.0; python_version < "3.6" and python_version >= "3.0"
```

This results in `python3 -m pip list`:

> pip20.3.3
> setuptools 50.3.2
> wheel 0.36.2

[Bug 1911440] Re: Build using distro minilzo

2021-01-20 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Installed using subiquity focal iso, and btrfs filesystem for the whole
drive.

Enabled compression via force-compress=lzo mount option in fstab.

Rerun btrfs defrag tool to recurrsievely compress /boot with lzo.

Upgraded to new grub, and dpkg-reconfigure it just in case.

Rebooted. in grub console, check package version

grub> echo $package_version
2.04-1ubuntu26.8

Completed boot just fine.

Thus I think grub2 in focal with btrfs lzo compression still boots fine.

[Bug 1891810] Re: Missing openat2 syscall, causes problems for fuse-overlayfs in nspawn containers

2021-01-20 Thread Steve Dodd
Attached is a trivial test case, needs to be run in a container by a
container manager that uses seccomp for syscall filtering (e.g. nspawn.)

It should either silently succeed or print "openat2: Function not
implemented" ; if seccomp combined with the container manager (e.g.
nspawn) blocks the openat2 call, it will instead print "openat2:
Operation not permitted."

[Bug 1912484] [NEW] Please remove kore ppc64el/riscv64/s390x binaries from hirsute

2021-01-20 Thread Lukas Märdian
Public bug reported:

Please remove binaries built from src:kore for the ppc64el/riscv64/s390x
architectures from hirsute-universe.

The binary package names are:
kore 3.3.1-1
kore-dbgsym 3.3.1-1

The release/arch that should get targeted for removal is:
hirsute/ppc64el
hirsute/riscv64
hirsute/s390x

Upstream only supports `amd64 armhf armel arm64` as of version >= 4.0 (due to
using specific syscalls) and the Debian maintainer dropped support for all
other architectures. See:

[Bug 1912246] Re: gnome-shell freezes randomly after upgrading to groovy

2021-01-20 Thread Ian Johnson
Well for the short bit that I've been using the system after disabling
all the extensions through the Extensions app, I have not experienced
any freeze. I will report back after the end of the day if I see any
more freezes though.

Interestingly, after disabling all Extensions, I have no more dock
unless I press the "super" button in which case it momentarily appears
on the left, is this intended? I guess I seem to remember "stock gnome"
had a dock that was permanently on the screen...

[Bug 1891810] Re: Missing openat2 syscall, causes problems for fuse-overlayfs in nspawn containers

2021-01-20 Thread Steve Dodd
OK, this is getting complicated. seccomp 2.5.0 and systemd-nspawn both
have bugs which when combined cause most/all syscall filters to actually
be disabled! See
https://github.com/seccomp/libseccomp/issues/273#issuecomment-668458070

So I think your new packages are probably OK, but as they pull in 2.5.1
my system is breaking because the version of systemd-nspawn I'm using
(default version from focal) is apparently still old enough not to
include openat2() (Yes, reading upthread it seems I knew all of this in
August and have managed to forget it over the last few months!)

I will backport/patch systemd-nspawn and re-test these packages when
time permits..

[Bug 1910537] Re: HDMI audio not working on Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video mixer)

2021-01-20 Thread Hadmut Danisch
I think I've found the problem.

@Uldis: please check and verify

It doesn't work with a video with

Channel(s) : 1 channel
Channel layout : C
Sampling rate: 44.1 kHz

but it works when playing a video with

Channel(s) : 2 channels
Sampling rate: 48.0 kHz

So maybe it's the sampling rate. Probably Linux outputs a sampling rate
conforming with the current source, and the ATEM seems to expect 48kHz, while
accepting everything on HDMI1, but getting it scrambled and distorted, since
there's not enough data (8% missing), while the input on HDMI2-4 simply doesn't
match the expectations.

[Bug 1904988] Re: [SRU] set defaults to be sslv23 not tlsv1

2021-01-20 Thread Robie Basak
Hello Hua, or anyone else affected,

Accepted python-eventlet into xenial-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-
eventlet/0.18.4-1ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-xenial.

Thanks Marc!

Unsubscribed ~ubuntu-sponsors.

For SRU verification, would checking that eventlet can correctly connect
to each the various protocol versions be appropriate?

[Bug 1910537] Re: HDMI audio not working on Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Pro ISO (video mixer)

2021-01-20 Thread Hadmut Danisch
BTW: what would pulseaudio / ubuntu pass out on HDMI if I do play two
audio sources, one with 44.1 and one with 48 kHz, at the same time?

Any tool or method to check what's going out to HDMI?

[Bug 1911440] Re: Build using distro minilzo

2021-01-20 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
The above was done using bios / i386-pc.

For grub2-signed verification, I should do this all again using UEFI
with secureboot on.

[Bug 1911440] Re: Build using distro minilzo

2021-01-20 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Using above system used for focal validation, did a do-release-upgrade
to normal groovy series, installed grub from groovy-proposed. perform
dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc, and reboot.

in grub console checked package version

grub> echo $package_version
2.04-1ubuntu35.2

and it booted correctly. Thus groovy-proposed is verified.

[Bug 1912491] [NEW] Incorrect processing of network name and time messages from operator leads to multiple issues

2021-01-20 Thread Adrianna Pińska
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 20.04.1 LTS
modemmanager version: 1.12.8-1
modem-manager-gui version: 0.0.19.1-2

What I expected to happen: SMSes in the GUI have correct timestamps; the
operator name is reported correctly in the GUI; USSD communications work
correctly in the GUI and through the mmcli interface.

What is actually happening: SMSes in the GUI have no timestamps; the
operator name disappears from the GUI; USSD communications randomly fail
both in the GUI and on the commandine. I understand that the maintainers
of this package are not responsible for the GUI application, but below I
explain my rationale for filing this bug against this package and why I
think these issues are related.

I use modemmanager and modem-manager-gui to manage a GSM modem in my
Thinkpad. In 18.04 everything worked correctly, but since I upgraded to
20.04 I have noticed multiple issues which I believe may have the same
underlying cause:

1. Received SMSes logged in modem-manager-gui no longer have timestamps.
This may be the same issue as is reported here in the Fedora package,
since the upstream version appears to be the same:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1839752

2. When I start up modem-manager-gui, I can see the operator name
displayed correctly in the info tab, but after some time it disappears,
and I see "Searching" as the value in the "Registration" field.

3. This is the most critical issue and the primary reason that I'm
reporting this. When I interact with any USSD menu, I experience
intermittent "Invalid USSD message received" errors which disrupt any
sufficiently long chain of USSD interactions and make it near-impossible
to complete certain tasks via USSD. It's only through extensive trial
and error that I found that sometimes it's possible to retry the same
reply successfully, although this is very sensitive to timeouts. After
initially observing this behaviour in modem-manager-gui I tried to use
the mmcli interface on the commandline to access these USSD menus, and
found the same erratic behaviour. This is why I'm filing this bug
against the modemmanager package.

The exact error messages are always in this format:

error: couldn't send response in USSD session:
'GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.ModemManager1.Error.Core.Failed: Invalid USSD
message received: '^NWNAME: "MTN-SA","","65510"

^NWTIME: 21/01/20,13:13:31+08,0''

My layperson's hypothesis is that these are messages from the operator
containing the name of the network and the system time of the network,
but modemmanager is not expecting them and therefore not processing them
correctly for some reason, which is why 1) the network name and time is
not being set in modem-manager-gui and 2) USSD communications are being
disrupted by unexpected messages.

I'd be happy to help to debug this further if there is any other
information that I can provide.

[Bug 1889196] Re: infinite loop on start if misconfigured

2021-01-20 Thread Krister Swenson
I experience the infinite loop on boot about half the time. The OP
speaks of "misconfiguration because of user error", yet I'm not the type
to twittle with the system when it's not broken, so I'm not sure how
this misconfiguration happened.

Does anyone know of a workaround?

When the machine does boot I can get this error message from
