[Bug 1827452] Re: null pointer dereference in uvcvideo
Update again. The kernel maintainers have been helpful but prefer NULL checking to be done in the drivers, not in the kernel. I've explored further with some test builds and it turns out the NULL is actually on the dev config interfaces (usb.c:281 current line). During initialization the Logitech C920 sometimes unplugs/deactivates itself. Apparently many Logitech models do this if you search the issue - Windows included. Shame to have such a great quality camera paired with such subpar firmware. Anyway I'm trying fix uvc_driver.c to verify devices are still plugged in before calling usb_ifnum_to_if. It won't fix webcams or devices that unplug themselves (or get unplugged) during initialization but it will protect the USB subsystem so you can plug it back in again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827452 Title: null pointer dereference in uvcvideo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1827452/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Neither of these lines would allow malware to write to that location. However they do provide some danger. The first rule allow firefox to ptrace it self, this could potentially be exploited by injected shell code to further take control of firefox if say the code gains control of the render process. It won't however allow removing confinement or attacking other processes the user might be running. The second rule allows firefox to load and run code from that location. But doesn't allow firefox to write to it. So if there is malware on the system that can write to that location it could have firefox run it. But if something manages to hack/inject code into firefox it won't be able to put code there. Dealing with this in apparmor comes down to making sure the rest of the system confinement is correct, preventing said malware from writing to that location. Or you could potentially use IMA to further restrict and only allow signed files from this location. The reason this is more dangerous than allowing /lib/*.so or other system locations is the users home directory can be written by other processes run by the user. And on most systems, most user processes are running unconfined hence malware that exists on the system and isn't confined could write to it. Again this isn't some much a problem with having the rule in the apparmor profile but have sufficient policy on the system. > When will the fix be added officially to the Firefox Apparmor profile? > these can be added fairly soon. https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/merge_requests/684 though that is just landing it upstream and I am not sure when the next ubuntu upload will be -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1777070 Title: firefox plugin libwidevinecdm.so crashes due to apparmor denial To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1777070/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1904321] [NEW] does not work as it should " systemctl edit service"
Public bug reported: 1. `systemctl edit service(elasticsearch)` That creates file `/etc/systemd/system/elasticsearch.service.d/override.conf` And I've added following section there: [Service] LimitMEMLOCK=infinity LimitNPROC=32768 LimitNOFILE=25 3. [Bug 1848326] Re: [cosmic+] error booting with prime-select intel: prime-select does not update initramfs to blacklist nvidia modules
I'm facing the same problem with Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS and GeForce 310M, using an old Samsung QX310. Without these drivers, the preinstalled intel driver works fine. But with "prime-select intel" I boot into a black screen. To go back into the DE, first I have to press Ctrl+Alt+F4 and then input my login and password. Sometimes it takes a few tries. [Bug 1887294] Re: [nvidia] Display freeze and kernel crash on GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
I don't know how clear it was before, but it's the same for me -- it happens when I connect or disconnect a monitor. It's a TV screen, and doesn't turn off automatically, so I make it turn on and off (using an RS232-based protocol over a separate cable). When turned off, the TV appears as disconnected from the computer, the desktop layout changes, etc. The problem happens whether or not I have another, normal monitor connected. One difference is that it won't actually shut down if I issue the shutdown command over SSH (or press the power button), it starts the shutdown process but then hangs. This should be a pretty normal use case for laptops, so I'm surprised that not more people see it. Maybe it appears on desktop GPUs only, or that it resets when the computer is suspended (as would often happen after disconnecting a monitor laptops). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887294 Title: [nvidia] Display freeze and kernel crash on GeForce GTX 1060 6GB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-440/+bug/1887294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1891324] Re: Groovy Gorilla GRUB won't install to MBR
In my particular case, my motherboard is EFI but can boot legacy or MBR. I built it in 2013. Its an Asus Z77 and at this time has 7 SSD's for testing different OS's. It has a bug whereby if one uses GPT EFI boot and I move the cables to another drive for testing the EFI drive will no longer boot. There are no more EFI firmware updates. There is no issue for legacy boot. So all drives are partitioned MBR except Ubuntu 20.10. I didn't even know about the bios-boot partition and GPT until installing 20.10 and I saw the three partitions. That's when I manually tried to partition it MBR which 9 out of 10 times comes up with a warning about not booting and the drive is partitioned GPT. Once in a while there will be a warning but it will remain MBR but after completion it will boot but not complete loading the OS. I suspect most people don't even know about the bug and have not reported it because they just let Ubuntu format the drive automatically. If they're using legacy boot and don't examine the partitions they have no idea how it was partitioned. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1891324 Title: Groovy Gorilla GRUB won't install to MBR To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1891324/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 838381] Re: The cursor in active terminal window stops blinking after ten seconds.
Taking a second look at my workaround, I realize now that the "Settings Editor" is actually xfce4-settings-editor so this presumably only applies to Xubuntu or a system which otherwise has xfce as the desktop environment. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838381 Title: The cursor in active terminal window stops blinking after ten seconds. [Bug 838381] Re: The cursor in active terminal window stops blinking after ten seconds.
I thought I would add the workaround I found which applies to Xubuntu 18.04 but possibly others: To make the cursor keep blinking in GTK-based applications (which includes gnome-terminal, xfce4-terminal, gedit, pidgin and many others): 1. Open Settings Editor from the Settings menu. 2. Select the xsettings "channel" on the left side of the interface. 3. Click New. 4. The name of the property needs to be /Gtk/CursorBlinkTimeout 5. Set it to be an integer property. 6. Specify a very large number (but less than 2 billion). 7. Click Save Here's hoping the GNOME group somehow ceases to exist in the near future. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838381 Title: The cursor in active terminal window stops blinking after ten seconds. [Bug 1893753] Re: libnginx-mod-http-lua 0.10.11 not compatible with NGINX 1.18/1.17
Because of this issue libnginx-mod-http-lua is completely broken in several versions of Ubuntu. Upgrading lua-nginx-module to 0.10.15 fixes the issue, and I have suggested two patches that would make libnginx-mod-http-lua usable again: - hirsuite: https://code.launchpad.net/~knyar/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+git/nginx/+merge/393789 - focal: https://code.launchpad.net/~knyar/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+git/nginx/+merge/393790 Note that the latest version of lua-nginx-module is 0.10.19, however upgrading to it is more tricky than upgrading to 0.10.15. Beginning at version 0.10.16, lua-nginx-module requires the lua-resty-core library (https://github.com/openresty/lua-resty-core) to be available, and I have not been able to find it packaged in Ubuntu. There are several options on how to package that lua library (either as a separate Ubuntu package, or together with libnginx-mod-http-lua), which is probably something that Ubuntu nginx maintainers should decide. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1893753 Title: libnginx-mod-http-lua 0.10.11 not compatible with NGINX 1.18/1.17 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1893753/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1713650] Re: Can't Alt+drag windows at all any more
Gnome now differs from every single other window manager. I understand that alt+drag interferes with some former mac users' workflows, but really, we've been here for 20 years and they just arrived... why should we change our workflows to suit theirs? Can we please revert to the default, and make this a tick-box option upon installation, or in keyboard settings? (Ie. [Bug 576602] Re: Fancontrol relies on the module load order
This affects me too on Asus z97P, since at least ubuntu 13.10 (when I bought this system). I sometimes hear fans not spin down after booting, and have been "rebooting until success" for the last 7 years... lucky it isnt too often I get the wrong order, maybe once in 10 boots or so. Since adding a new GPU recently made this problem worse, and I needed the it87 driver compiled from unofficial sources to support my board (IT8606 chip) in 20.04, I stumbled on this bug via the lm-sensors github. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/576602 Title: Fancontrol relies on the module load order To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lmsensors/+bug/576602/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1902352] Re: apt-get -u upgrade yields "-bash: /usr/bin/snap: No such file or directory"
Thanks. Clearly there's a shell script somewhere running 'snap'... Please run this command to check those other files: grep -r snap /etc/apt/apt.conf.d and tell us if you get any results. Also, just to be sure, please purge snapd: sudo apt purge snapd and then reboot. That will remove any more such leftover config files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1902352 Title: apt-get -u upgrade yields "-bash: /usr/bin/snap: No such file or directory" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1902352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
