[Bug 1904134] Re: Mouse no longer functions reliably after latest update

2020-11-14 Thread Bill Farina
One other thing that I've noticed is that the mouse pointer gets really
laggy and sort of spastic when it passes over an open window. It's when
it's being laggy that it seems to crash and disappear.

[Bug 1904265] [NEW] Deterministic bluetooth disconnects after login and bluetooth restart

2020-11-14 Thread g
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

a few months ago I upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 and since then, I'm into
some bluetooth connection issues. I'm a KDE user currently using Ubuntu
5.4.0-53.59-generic 5.4.65, still the reported issue also appears with
plain ubuntu 20.04, even a clean live USB version of ubuntu 18.04
reproduces it such that it is independent of any KDE library. I've
noticed the following bug already a few months ago, still I would like
to wait and see if it might be resolved with a new kernel update or
something else. Since it still persists, I now would like to report it
to the devs. I found no similar reported bug but if it already has been
reported, I'd like to excuse for reporting a duplicate.

So, I'm using a Logitech bluetooth LE mouse and with ubuntu 18.04
(actually on any distro based on 18.04 that I tested), everything works
fine and without any problems. Still with 20.04, I'm into the following
bug that I would like to report. After starting ubuntu, the bluetooth
connection to the mouse works (i.e. pointer is moving) and after about
30-40 seconds it stops moving and freezes for about 10-15 seconds and
thereafter works again and stays working. The same issue can be
reproduced by executing (for instance on a live ubuntu)

sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart

which stops the bluetooth connection for a few seconds (as expected),
immediately it works again but after additional 30-40 seconds, the
connection breaks for another 10-15 seconds and thereafter works
flawlessly.

I checked all configuration files from the /etc/bluetooth/ directory,
everything is the same between 18.04 and 20.04 and even modifying the
parameters does not change anything at all. As a conclusion of my
testing I strongly guess it has either anything to do with a different
kernel version or a with a changed bluetooth library between 18.04 and
20.04.

So in summary:
Expected behavior: Bluetooth connection shortly breaks after 'sudo
/etc/init.d/bluetooth restart' and does not break again after 30-40 seconds (as
it is the case with ubuntu 18.04)
Actual behavior: Bluetooth connection breaks again after reestablishing the
connection

I'm hoping that this issue can easily be fixed and please let me know if
you need any further information :-)

[Bug 1904269] [NEW] Apply full upgrade - fails with no error message

Public bug reported:

After installation and reboot of Hirsute Lubuntu daily ISO 13.11.2020
the apply full upgrade windows appears - after entering the password
nothing occurs.

I then ran "Discover" which shows 12 updates available - but will not update
again no errors.
I have attempted this on 3 boxes - all same results.

I also noted that if I change my "software source" from the mail Ubuntu
server to my local server (in this case Iceland) and then run "Discover"
there are then no updates available.

Not sure if this is a bug in the updater or a problem with the "main"

[Bug 1904270] [NEW] ubiquity does not support existing LUKS encrypted partitions

2020-11-14 Thread Tim Edwards
Public bug reported:

The ubiquity installer, including both the text version on the Ubuntu
Server live CD and its GUI version does not support using existing LUKS
encrypted partitions. That means out of the box it wants to completely
wipe all existing partitions, this is a serious failure for what's now
the default installer in Ubuntu 20.04.

There is a workaround that involves running 'cryptsetup luksOpen' before
running the installer, so that it can see the LVM LV's that are on the
encrypted device and use them. But even doing this won't work properly
because the installer stuffs up the /etc/crypttab and initrd. You have
to manually create /etc/crypttab and initrd.

This is a major failure since the installer doesn't support re-using
partitions that it itself created.

Steps to reproduce:
- get a system with a blank disk, or just create a new Virtualbox VM
- install Ubuntu 20.04 on an encrypted LUKS partition (using the options in the
ubiquity installer), creating a / (root), /home and swap LV on top of the LUKS
partition/LVM volume group
- boot the system to verify it starts, then restart into the installer again
- try to re-use the existing partitions, you can't unless you follow the manual
workaround below:

**Workaround**
**Ubuntu 20.04: Extra Steps for Re-Using Existing LUKS Encrypted Partition**
(replace nvme0n1p8 with your encrypted LUKS partition)

- BEFORE starting the installer (if in Ubuntu or Kubuntu live CD desktop), or
at the first step (if using Ubuntu Server text-based live CD installer):
# open existing LUKS partition (
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/nvme0n1p8 nvme0n1p8_crypt

- Then, either do this at the end after the installer has run, or boot into a
live CD environment (e.g. Kubuntu) and do:
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/nvme0n1p8 nvme0n1p8_crypt
mount -o subvol=@ /dev/mapper/MainVG-root /mnt/
mount /dev/nvme0n1p7 /mnt/boot/
mount --rbind /dev/ /mnt/dev/
mount --rbind /sys/ /mnt/sys/
mount --rbind /run/ /mnt/run/
mount --rbind /proc/ /mnt/proc/
chroot /mnt /bin/bash -l
blkid | grep crypto_LUKS
# Example: /dev/nvme0n1p8: UUID="8cb9831a-692e-4b0e-936f-72529a3ed56d"
TYPE="crypto_LUKS" PARTUUID="139f23d2-a0ff-4f4f-b41f-8083964ac894"
apt install vim

# nvme0n1p8_crypt UUID="8cb9831a-692e-4b0e-936f-72529a3ed56d" none luks
#
# MAKE SURE There's a newline at end of /etc/crypttab

[Bug 1904266] Re: calamares data entry; cursor jumps to end of field making editing difficult

2020-11-14 Thread Leó Kolbeinsson
I can confirm that this occurred on 2 boxes that I tested on Lubuntu
21.04 "Hirsute Hippo" - Alpha amd64 (20201113)

I noted that if I erased the host name suggested by Calamares then I
could enter my preferred hos tanem as usual. This only occurred if I
tried to add a prefix to the host name without stroking it completely
out first - hope this understandable explanation.

[Bug 1447664] Re: 14e4:1687 broadcom tg3 network driver disconnects under high load

2020-11-14 Thread Janno Sannik
Just letting know that "iommu=pt" fixed my problem on HP Elitedesk 705
G2. There was not even a talk about test benching anything since I could
not even download a 100MB file using 300Mbit/s internet connection. It
would lose connection without any logs. It however would recover with
ifdown/ifup.

This is not ubuntu, but (up to date) proxmox-ve v6.2-15 using kernel
5.4.65-1-pve which is based on debian.

[Bug 1904271] [NEW] Python 3.9 package is missing dependency on tzdata

2020-11-14 Thread Christian Heimes
Public bug reported:

Python 3.9 introduced the stdlib module "zoneinfo". The module either
uses the operating sytem's tzdata database or the tzdata Python package.
See https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0615/ for more information.

Debian's and Ubuntu's python3.9 package is missing a dependency on
tzdata. This breaks the zoneinfo module in a minimal container:

$ docker run -ti ubuntu:groovy /bin/bash
# apt update
# apt install -y python3.9
# dpkg -l python3.9

[Bug 1904265] Re: Deterministic bluetooth disconnects after login and bluetooth restart

2020-11-14 Thread g
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

Actual behavior: Bluetooth connection breaks again after reestablishing the
connection

- I'm hoping that this issue can easily be fixed and please let me know if
- you need any further information :-)

[Bug 1902427] Re: systemd pauses for unspecified reason

2020-11-14 Thread ralphb
The issue was indeed /etc/fstab, which contained a UUID inserted by the
installer. Removing the UUID by the actual device name removed the 1:30
minutes delay.

You might argue that this is a bug by itself, but it's good enough for
me.

[Bug 1901922] Re: [SRU][Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1] No sound output device on startup

2020-11-14 Thread Florian Beier
I can confirm that the updated packages fix the issue for me (Groovy on
a ThinkPad T14 w/ Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U). However, the LED on the keyboard
for muting the microphone (on the F4 key) doesn't work for the internal
microphone. It works as expected when another microphone is present and
selected as input device (I plugged a headset into the audio jack).

In my case unplugging and puggling the headphones makes no difference at
all, and doesn't pop up anything.

[Bug 1904278] [NEW] [SRU] Uplift to upstream v3.36.3.1 microrelease

2020-11-14 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:

Upstream have released v3.36.3.1 which includes a CVE security fix
together with bug-fixes for this v3.36 series

Proposed changelog
- Fixed handling of pinned, invalid TLS certificates: CVE-2020-24661
- Build bug fixes
- Client library now installed to private lib sub-directory
- Allow downstream packagers set their package's version number
- Numerous bug fixes and user interface improvements
  * drop existing patches except for Bump-client-test-timeout-to-300s.patch
which has been refreshed to remove fuzz.
  * Bump-client-test-timeout-to-300s.patch - add same timeout for engine
tests to allow slower architecture builds to complete
  * d/control.in - update maintainer to Ubuntu Developers
  * d/control.in - remove Debian specific build dependency firmware-linux-free
  * Update build rules based on v3.38 bullseye package
- d/rules drop --as-needed from linker flags (no longer needed in bullseye)
- d/rules strip Ubuntu -Bsymbolic-functions, the tests are failing otherwise
  * d/rules add CHECK_HOME statements for test build to resolve test failures
due to dconf permission denied noise

Test build: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntubudgie-dev/+archive/ubuntu
/geary-test/+packages

TBD - add SRU template

Currently the build fails on armhf and arm64 - possibly this issue?

Maybe try changing `which=news` to `which=both` in the configuration

I also use frontend=text but that's just a personal preference.

Can confirm. I also tried to manually invoke the setting:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options

Doesn't work, too. My current workaround is using setxkbmap directly:

$ setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps

[Bug 1903920] Re: Warning message about cryptsetup during boot

2020-11-14 Thread Mathieu Dubois
We linked to the same discussion on askubuntu.com (I replied you there).
My hope when reporting this is that we don't have to do the workaround
you described after each kernel update.

Did you open another bug report ? In this case, I will mark this one as
a duplicate.

** Description changed:

I have noticed that since upgrade to 20.04.1 (from 18.04), a warning
message appears during boot: "cryptsetup: WARNING: Option 'size' missing
in crypttab for plain dm-crypt mapping cryptswap1. Please read
  /usr/share/doc/cryptsetup-initramfs/README.initramfs.gz and add the
correct 'size' option to your crypttab(5).".

AFAICT, there is no problem however. I use ecryptfs to encrypt my home
directory but I don't think it's related (since the message is related
to swap). This message used to appear during updates under 18.04 but I
never paid attention to it. I probably use the same setup since 16.04.

  Others have reported the problem
  (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1109463, https://medium.com/@anirudha
  /fixing-cryptsetup-wating-for-encrypted-source-device-swapfile-error-on-
  linux-boot-ubuntu-20-04-5483e0dcf9e9). From what I read:

    - The answers indicate to edit /etc/crypttab and add a value for size but I
don't know what value to use.
    - It seems that before 20.04, just editing /etc/crypttab was enough but
some users say that they need to manually regenerate the initramfs image after
each update which is boring.

I have asked the question at
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/693615 and @bernard010
suggested to open a bug report.

I have found anything worth in dmesg though.

- As I said everything seems fine (boot proceed normally, I can use the
+ As I said everything seems fine (boot proceeds normally, I can use the
computer) but I expect that there is a way to permanently make this
  warning disappear.

[Bug 1901335] Re: Repository version of Sigil won't run on all Ubuntu 20.04 systems.

2020-11-14 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Hi,

I just tried, and here sigil runs seamlessly on focal.

I can't imagine how it could be looking for libpython3.6m.so, when sigl in
focal was built against python 3.8.

Can we double checkout that you are actually running the sigil I expect
you to? Please run

sha256sum /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sigil/sigil

and try to run that binary instead of plain `sigil`

[Bug 1904286] [NEW] Updated UBUNTU to 20.04 : No sound when HDMI connected [System Product Name, Realtek ALC887-VD, Green Line Out, Rear] No sound at all

2020-11-14 Thread Annick Egurbide
Public bug reported:

I have loudspeakers connected on green output, on motherboard, and TV connected
with HDMI in another room.
With UBUNTU 18.04, I had to change manually sound output in parameters, sound
board.
I have just upgraded to UBUNTU 20.04. Change output seems now automatic. When I
connect TV with HDMI, I have sound on TV, but no more possibility to have sound
with loudspeakers connected to PC. I must disconnect HDMI cable to find again
sound on PC. And change manually sound output in parameters, sound board
doesn't work.
Thanking you in advance for your help.

[Bug 1897185] Re: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login

2020-11-14 Thread Tim Wetzel
Update: this is still acting up, even after the kernel update and Intel
microcode updates of Nov 11 and Nov 12 respectively. Given those
updates, I tested to see whether this bug is still there. Unfortunately,
it is.

This is a ThinkPad T570, docked, using external HDMI display (via the
dock) as primary. Also external Lenovo keyboard and mouse, obviously. By
simply re-selecting the proprietary nVidia driver for the discrete
graphics, the system goes into suspend as soon as the login password is
entered. These drivers worked just fine until the Ubuntu update issues
in September.

I tried 2 different versions of the nVidia driver; both continue to
cause this bug as has been the case since I opened this bug report.

I have also seen this bug triggered by automatic loading of the Dropbox
app (which I am keeping turned off until this is fixed); by a Logitech
USB wireless mouse (on a T480 configuration); and after a few
occurrences even by just the loading of the gnome shell.

[Bug 1903421] Re: crash at end of installation procedure

2020-11-14 Thread Michael Dooley
A UEFI partition seems to be a requirement when installing 20.10.

Create a 50 to 100 Megabyte partition using Gparted and flag it as boot
and esp. Then select this partition and change it to EFI System
Partition. Finally select a root partition and perhaps a data or home
partition. I installed grub to /dev/sda.

Installation on two laptops proceeded without crashing after creating a
UEFI partition.

[Bug 1904297] [NEW] update notifier disruptive popup

2020-11-14 Thread Marcus Eugen
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 20.04

Update notifier keeps interrupting every hour or two by appearing on top
of work.

Nobody in their right mind would do this intentionally so it must be a
bug.

Button to switch to manual update or much less frequent updates is
missing.

The irritatingly disruptive update notifier has made Lubuntu unusable
for me.

The bug is still there in Ubuntu 20.10. I'm even almost certain it was
fixed and re-appeared recently.

Can you please run `ls /lib/udev/rules.d/*pm-nvidia.rules`, and remove

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-11-14 Thread Pop Michael
@Baq Domalaq thank you for your help, but i couldn't make it to work. At
filename it is (builtin) so i tried your method, but i can't download
the file from #179 bcuz there's no file , just a page with some code
lines that are also on #171. Anyway , when i typed "apt-get source
linux-image-$(uname -r)" in root mode it says "You must put some 'deb-
src' URIs in your sources.list" which i don't understand what it means.
Fixing this touchpad issue on linux seems to be beyond my knowledge. :)
Thanks anyway

[Bug 1901338] Re: upgrade to latest stable release fails

2020-11-14 Thread Don Harter
This should be closed. I found out that I had packages from a ppa
repository which were duplicates of standard ubuntu packages. So this
bug report should not even been submited.

Useful commands to solve this problem were:
for name in `dpkg -l | gawk -e '{print $2}'` ; do apt-cache policy $name; done
| grep ppa
ppa-purge ppa:ubuntugis
