[Bug 1904134] Re: Mouse no longer functions reliably after latest update

[Bug 1904265] [NEW] Deterministic bluetooth disconnects after login and bluetooth restart
Public bug reported: Hello everyone, a few months ago I upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 and since then, I'm into some bluetooth connection issues. I'm a KDE user currently using Ubuntu 5.4.0-53.59-generic 5.4.65, still the reported issue also appears with plain ubuntu 20.04, even a clean live USB version of ubuntu 18.04 reproduces it such that it is independent of any KDE library. I've noticed the following bug already a few months ago, still I would like to wait and see if it might be resolved with a new kernel update or something else. Since it still persists, I now would like to report it to the devs. I found no similar reported bug but if it already has been reported, I'd like to excuse for reporting a duplicate. So, I'm using a Logitech bluetooth LE mouse and with ubuntu 18.04 (actually on any distro based on 18.04 that I tested), everything works fine and without any problems. Still with 20.04, I'm into the following bug that I would like to report. After starting ubuntu, the bluetooth connection to the mouse works (i.e. pointer is moving) and after about 30-40 seconds it stops moving and freezes for about 10-15 seconds and thereafter works again and stays working. The same issue can be reproduced by executing (for instance on a live ubuntu) sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart which stops the bluetooth connection for a few seconds (as expected), immediately it works again but after additional 30-40 seconds, the connection breaks for another 10-15 seconds and thereafter works flawlessly. I checked all configuration files from the /etc/bluetooth/ directory, everything is the same between 18.04 and 20.04 and even modifying the parameters does not change anything at all. As a conclusion of my testing I strongly guess it has either anything to do with a different kernel version or a with a changed bluetooth library between 18.04 and 20.04. So in summary: Expected behavior: Bluetooth connection shortly breaks after 'sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart' and does not break again after 30-40 seconds (as it is the case with ubuntu 18.04) Actual behavior: Bluetooth connection breaks again after reestablishing the connection I'm hoping that this issue can easily be fixed and please let me know if you need any further information :-) ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: bluetooth disco -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904265 Title: Deterministic bluetooth disconnects after login and bluetooth restart To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1904265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1904270] [NEW] ubiquity does not support existing LUKS encrypted partitions
Public bug reported: The ubiquity installer, including both the text version on the Ubuntu Server live CD and its GUI version does not support using existing LUKS encrypted partitions. That means out of the box it wants to completely wipe all existing partitions, this is a serious failure for what's now the default installer in Ubuntu 20.04. There is a workaround that involves running 'cryptsetup luksOpen' before running the installer, so that it can see the LVM LV's that are on the encrypted device and use them. But even doing this won't work properly because the installer stuffs up the /etc/crypttab and initrd. You have to manually create /etc/crypttab and initrd. This is a major failure since the installer doesn't support re-using partitions that it itself created. Steps to reproduce: - get a system with a blank disk, or just create a new Virtualbox VM - install Ubuntu 20.04 on an encrypted LUKS partition (using the options in the ubiquity installer), creating a / (root), /home and swap LV on top of the LUKS partition/LVM volume group - boot the system to verify it starts, then restart into the installer again - try to re-use the existing partitions, you can't unless you follow the manual workaround below: **Workaround** **Ubuntu 20.04: Extra Steps for Re-Using Existing LUKS Encrypted Partition** (replace nvme0n1p8 with your encrypted LUKS partition) - BEFORE starting the installer (if in Ubuntu or Kubuntu live CD desktop), or at the first step (if using Ubuntu Server text-based live CD installer): # open existing LUKS partition ( cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/nvme0n1p8 nvme0n1p8_crypt - Then, either do this at the end after the installer has run, or boot into a live CD environment (e.g. Kubuntu) and do: cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/nvme0n1p8 nvme0n1p8_crypt mount -o subvol=@ /dev/mapper/MainVG-root /mnt/ mount /dev/nvme0n1p7 /mnt/boot/ mount --rbind /dev/ /mnt/dev/ mount --rbind /sys/ /mnt/sys/ mount --rbind /run/ /mnt/run/ mount --rbind /proc/ /mnt/proc/ chroot /mnt /bin/bash -l blkid | grep crypto_LUKS # Example: /dev/nvme0n1p8: UUID="8cb9831a-692e-4b0e-936f-72529a3ed56d" TYPE="crypto_LUKS" PARTUUID="139f23d2-a0ff-4f4f-b41f-8083964ac894" apt install vim vim /etc/crypttab # Add a line for the encrypted partiton, e.g: # nvme0n1p8_crypt UUID="8cb9831a-692e-4b0e-936f-72529a3ed56d" none luks # # MAKE SURE There's a newline at end of /etc/crypttab # update the initramfs update-initramfs -u -k all umount -l /mnt # Optional, probably not needed grub-install --recheck /dev/nvme0n1 grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: ubiquity (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-53.59-generic 5.4.65 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-53-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.12 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Sat Nov 14 21:30:33 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-11-02 (11 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04.1 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200731) SourcePackage: ubiquity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904270 Title: ubiquity does not support existing LUKS encrypted partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1904270/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1904265] Re: Deterministic bluetooth disconnects after login and bluetooth restart
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected focal ** Description changed: Hello everyone, a few months ago I upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 and since then, I'm into some bluetooth connection issues. So in summary: Expected behavior: Bluetooth connection shortly breaks after 'sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart' and does not break again after 30-40 seconds (as it is the case with ubuntu 18.04) Actual behavior: Bluetooth connection breaks again after reestablishing the connection - I'm hoping that this issue can easily be fixed and please let me know if - you need any further information :-) + I'm hoping that this issue can easily be fixed and please let me know if you need any further information :-) + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.4 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 5435 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC2: ubuntu 5435 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC1: ubuntu 5435 F pulseaudio + CasperMD5CheckResult: pass + CasperVersion: 1.445.1 + CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 + LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200731) + MachineType: HP HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx + NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm-256color + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 EFI VGA + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz file=/cdrom/preseed/username.seed maybe-ubiquity quiet splash nomodeset --- + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-42.46-generic 5.4.44 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-5.4.0-42-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-5.4.0-42-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.187.2 + Tags: focal + Uname: Linux 5.4.0-42-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 05/07/2019 + dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde + dmi.bios.version: F.20 + dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: 8478 + dmi.board.vendor: HP + dmi.board.version: 70.55 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: HP + dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsyde:bvrF.20:bd05/07/2019:svnHP:pnHPPavilionGamingLaptop15-cx0xxx:pvrType1ProductConfigId:rvnHP:rn8478:rvr70.55:cvnHP:ct10:cvrChassisVersion: + dmi.product.family: 103C_5335KV HP Pavilion + dmi.product.name: HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx + dmi.product.sku: 4CA30EA#ABD + dmi.product.version: Type1ProductConfigId + dmi.sys.vendor: HP ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904265/+attachment/5434304/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1904265 Title: Deterministic bluetooth disconnects after login and bluetooth restart To manage notifications about this bug go to: https:

[Bug 1903483] Re: "Caps Lock is also a Ctrl" setting stops working when connecting an external keyboard
Can confirm. I also tried to manually invoke the setting: $ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options "['ctrl:nocaps']" Doesn't work, too. [Bug 1903920] Re: Warning message about cryptsetup during boot
We linked to the same discussion on askubuntu.com (I replied you there). My hope when reporting this is that we don't have to do the workaround you described after each kernel update. Did you open another bug report ? In this case, I will mark this one as a duplicate. ** Description changed: I have noticed that since upgrade to 20.04.1 (from 18.04), a warning message appears during boot: "cryptsetup: WARNING: Option 'size' missing in crypttab for plain dm-crypt mapping cryptswap1. Please read /usr/share/doc/cryptsetup-initramfs/README.initramfs.gz and add the correct 'size' option to your crypttab(5).". AFAICT, there is no problem however. I use ecryptfs to encrypt my home directory but I don't think it's related (since the message is related to swap). This message used to appear during updates under 18.04 but I never paid attention to it. I probably use the same setup since 16.04. Others have reported the problem (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1109463, https://medium.com/@anirudha /fixing-cryptsetup-wating-for-encrypted-source-device-swapfile-error-on- linux-boot-ubuntu-20-04-5483e0dcf9e9). From what I read: - The answers indicate to edit /etc/crypttab and add a value for size but I don't know what value to use. - It seems that before 20.04, just editing /etc/crypttab was enough but some users say that they need to manually regenerate the initramfs image after each update which is boring. I have asked the question at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/693615 and @bernard010 suggested to open a bug report. I have found anything worth in dmesg though. - As I said everything seems fine (boot proceed normally, I can use the + As I said everything seems fine (boot proceeds normally, I can use the computer) but I expect that there is a way to permanently make this warning disappear. [Bug 1897185] Re: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login
Update: this is still acting up, even after the kernel update and Intel microcode updates of Nov 11 and Nov 12 respectively. Given those updates, I tested to see whether this bug is still there. Unfortunately, it is. This is a ThinkPad T570, docked, using external HDMI display (via the dock) as primary. Also external Lenovo keyboard and mouse, obviously. By simply re-selecting the proprietary nVidia driver for the discrete graphics, the system goes into suspend as soon as the login password is entered. These drivers worked just fine until the Ubuntu update issues in September. I tried 2 different versions of the nVidia driver; both continue to cause this bug as has been the case since I opened this bug report. I have also seen this bug triggered by automatic loading of the Dropbox app (which I am keeping turned off until this is fixed); by a Logitech USB wireless mouse (on a T480 configuration); and after a few occurrences even by just the loading of the gnome shell. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1897185 Title: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1897185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1903421] Re: crash at end of installation procedure
A UEFI partition seems to be a requirement when installing 20.10. Create a 50 to 100 Megabyte partition using Gparted and flag it as boot and esp. Then select this partition and change it to EFI System Partition. Finally select a root partition and perhaps a data or home partition. I installed grub to /dev/sda.
