[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones
John, thank your for your help. I was able to build and run a patched kernel. And even get the sound back, but only after a modification in the patch. I noticed Mike created the patch for your machine, but named it "Samsung Galaxy Book Ion (NT950XCJ-X716A)". This is incorrect because NT950XCJ-X716A is my 15-inch machines, but you said you have a 13-inch machine. Could you please let us know what is your model (via `sudo dmidecode -s baseboard-product-name`) ? [Bug 1854588] Re: gdebi-gtk calls pkexec inappropriately
The problem is not in firefox or mate, it's in gdebi-gtk, and specifically in GDebiGtk.py, line 619: os.execv(pkexec_cmd, pkexec_args+gdebi_args) This replaces the current process with a pkexec call. This is not a valid usage of pkexec, as pkexec requires the parent process to not be init (ppid!=1). To reproduce the issue without firefox, one can just run `setsid gdebi- gtk package.deb`. In a similar bug report for update-manager (LP: #1020115), this flag was used instead of os.execv: flags = GObject.SPAWN_DO_NOT_REAP_CHILD https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/update-manager/main/view/head:/UpdateManager/backend/InstallBackendSynaptic.py#L63 Is gdebi still maintained by Ubuntu developers, or should we report this in Debian? [Bug 1892621] [NEW] No login screen when waking from sleep
Public bug reported: This is similar to, but not identical to #1374830. I am running a Lenovo P1 with an external monitor. Generally the laptop lid is closed and I am relying just on an external monitor, mouse and keyboard. *Sometimes*, when waking the machine from sleep either: a. It does not wake the external monitor at all, or b1. It wakes the external monitor, but all I get is a mouse cursor on a black screen. Letting it time out and invoke the screensaver then enables me to login, or b2. As b1, but the screensaver does not start. I then have to open and shut the laptop lid in order to wake the external monitor properly. This whole behaviour is more common when the sleep has been of long duration, e.g. overnight. [Bug 1882998] Re: openvdb6.2 is non functionnal on Focal due to jemalloc
Thanks. In my opinion this could warrant fixing in 20.04 LTS because: - it's a regression from 18.04 LTS, so certain applications and usage patterns will break as users try to upgrade (which is what happened to me). - it affects several packages, specifically: libopenimageio, libopenvdb and python3-openvdb. libopenimageio is widely used, and python3-openvdb is currently not able to be imported because of this issue. Any other libraries that depend on openvdb will also be affected. - there's no need to upgrade to openvdb 7.x, and no code changes are required to the current 6.2.1 release either. It needs to be compiled with -DCONCURRENT_MALLOC=Tbballoc added to the CMake command line, and there's a patch available for this small change already. - this wouldn't be a high-risk update. I ended up working around my problem by setting the following environment variable that causes jemalloc to be loaded at process start, so it doesn't try to load itself later on in response to a dlopen() call. LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libjemalloc.so.2 I've never worked directly with Ubuntu packages, but will take a look at the SRU Procedure and see if I can put something together. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1882998 Title: openvdb6.2 is non functionnal on Focal due to jemalloc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jemalloc/+bug/1882998/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1892620] Re: power management incorrect wifi & bluetooth power off handling
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1892620/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1891681] Re: Can not disable screen locking after suspend in ubuntu 20.04 (gnome-flashback)
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + When suspending the computer, screen lock activates even if it is + disabled. + + [Test Case] + + 1. Disable screen locking by running the following command: + gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled false + 2. Log into GNOME Flashback (Metacity) session. + 3. Suspend the computer and then wake it up back. + 4. There should be no lock screen, the desktop should be seen as before suspend. + + [Regression Potential] + + See https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- + flashback/-/commit/fd4855c406106750 for the upstream fix. + + The fix is trivial: when gf_prefs_get_lock_enabled() returns false, + listener_lock_cb() is not called. In any case, potential regressions + would be limited to screen locking code. + + [Original Description] + Hello! I updated from 18.04 to 20.04 and since then unable to disable lock screen, despite it was disabled in 18.04. Corresponding setting in the gui does not take effect, so does gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled false or xset s off. I also tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 (the setting was sddm, and i changed it to gdm3) with the same effect. After suspension i get picture with purple fossa and password field, in which i can not change keyboard layout with keyboard, but only with mouse. My session is gnome-flashback (3.36.3-0ubuntu1) metacity (1:3.36.1-1). The lock screen does not appear after screensaver (i use xscreensaver). However once this lock screen stopped to appear, but at the same time the system started to enter suspend mode randomly and quite often. After rebooting the lock screens came back. Also the sound volume is set to "mute" sometimes after suspend. journalctl -xe starting at the beginning of suspension (unfortunately it is in part in russian) in the attached file. I asked this on askubuntu and was advised to file a bug here. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1265613/can-not-disable-screen-locking- after-suspend-in-20-04 Thanks in advance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1891681 Title: Can not disable screen locking after suspend in ubuntu 20.04 (gnome- flashback) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-flashback/+bug/1891681/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1861610] Re: 'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL'
Hello guys another update from me. I saw that tjis thread is shared across multiple distro forums and because I tested 4 I would like to post it here for feuture reference. Ubuntu - working but with grub parametres from comment #96, sadly no gestures are available (nor will be by libinput and touchpad-gestures library because they just can't reckognize them) Mint - same as linux Redhat - working but clicks are inverted for me lol (nothing on settings can chnage it but I guess that you can change it somehow tbh didnt want to bother with it) Kali - same as ubuntu but the touchpad is VEEERY snesitive and everything will trigger touch, multiple times while i was writing something i was iterulted by a click and this cannot be changed. For some reason ubuntu is better. Also it cant support gestures only click and pointera. I got in contact with libinput creator and after some testibg we realised that it can onky capture point devices and click events, nothing multitouch. Also every gestures on xinputlist are displayed as n/a Arch - My biggest surprise and I was so happy to boot it on arch because it works flawlessly. Not only that touchpad works (with hack) buz the gestures of scrolling got automatically reckognized, i tried as much as i can to trigger accidental clicks but couldnt do it, only thing is that it comes with touch to click disabled which was a quick fix.I think that it is compatible with libinput or other gestures because its reckongized as ELAN not just pointer device. This will be my main distro on this laptop. Hope that this was helpfull i'll also link other newer lenovo devices that I test so that this problem does not limit to thinkbooks. However, the behavior is not totally random. Chances are much better if I shut the computer down and then power it on after a few seconds compared to hitting the reboot button. I am using manjaro linux, but also tried ubuntu and fedora, it's the same on all distros as well as on the 5.6 kernel. I have been wondering if it is possible to completely restart the touchpad until it works, but I could not find out which component need to be restarted for that and how to do it. This would be a great functionality to fix all kinds of hardware bugs. Another idea would be to find out what makes the touchpad go into the working or not working state. I would be pleased for any ideas. @gannon1 Mike, I didn't have luck with the exact steps in comment 15, but the wiki written by Conner was very solid.
