Status in autofs package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Unable to use ld.conf methods (LD_LIBRARY_PATH, LD_PRELOAD) to locate

Context: HP ThinPro 7.1 Service Pack 8 (latest) is still based on
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Use Case: Thin Client -- HP will not allow Customers to install
anything to OS
partition, e.g. to /usr. automount installed from Canonical's
repository but to
  /usr on a flash drive e.g. /media/GenericFlash_sdb1/usr

the string: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/autofs appears in the binary.

[Bug 1891867] Re: zfs not correctly imported at boot

2020-08-18 Thread Didier Roche
Please run apport-collect to attach logs so that we can debug your setting.
@baling: why subscribing zsys to this bu? There is no mention of zsys being
used here, it seems directly a manual zfs setup.

[Bug 1891801] Re: watchdog should start after basic.target

2020-08-18 Thread Christoph Roeder
My setup looks like this:

- two nodes cluster with drbd
- 3rd node qdevice (net)

You`re right, sbd should start before watchdog.
This was also my first attempt as you suggested above to add
"After=watchdog.service".
But this creates an order cycle in pacemaker:
---
Aug 18 06:36:29 drbd01 systemd[1]: multi-user.target: Found ordering cycle on
pacemaker.service/start
Aug 18 06:36:29 drbd01 systemd[1]: multi-user.target: Found dependency on
sbd.service/start
Aug 18 06:36:29 drbd01 systemd[1]: multi-user.target: Found dependency on
watchdog.service/start
Aug 18 06:36:29 drbd01 systemd[1]: multi-user.target: Found dependency on
multi-user.target/start
Aug 18 06:36:29 drbd01 systemd[1]: multi-user.target: Job
pacemaker.service/start deleted to break ordering cycle starting with
multi-user.target/start
---

Btw. sbd starts fine with this modification

[Bug 1856608] Re: [Regression] usb usb2-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

2020-08-18 Thread Jeremy Nixon
@mruffell

> Reproduced on the test kernel? The one that I built in the ppa?

Yes 100% sure, took the laptop out of suspend on both kernels.

> We need to know what device is plugged into "port 2" of that hub, i.e.
"usb 4-2". Can you try determine what the device is?

Believe me I've tried. Have identified the function of every other host
controller on the system except for the one marked *-usbhost:1 in the
attached lshw bus output, which is also the origin of the error. All my
inserted devices (USB & Card Reader) appear on the *-usbhost:0 branch.
The laptop has a single USB 3.0 port, but when a device is inserted it
always appears on the USB 2.0 controller.

Even Windows 10 seems to have trouble loading drivers for this, so maybe
some hardware wasn't made to spec. If there was something on the system
that was actually malfunctioning then I might have more to go on.

[Bug 1891987] [NEW] epson stylus photo rx560 is detected, added, but when printing, task is ending up immediatelly with success

2020-08-18 Thread Didier Roche
Public bug reported:

Tried with both manufacturer and gutenprint driver:

1. plug an epson stylus photo rx560 via usb
2. add the driver (manufacturer first, retried with gutenprint) autodetected
our gtk ubuntu specific application.
3. Tried to print with multiple apps: the task is queued and then immediately
terminated with success. Nothing is printed.

[Bug 1890858] Re: AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

2020-08-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
# Clarify why it happens on your setup #

Binding unix sockets is what the denial is about and there isn't too
much in libvirt doing that.

In Focal all these should be systemd socket files that are taken over by
the service once started. Maybe in the setup of these is a difference.

If you could attach the full output of the following (if it changes then prior
and post triggering the issue).
$ systemctl status $(basename -a $(dpkg -L libvirt-daemon-system | grep -e
.socket -e .service | xargs) | xargs)

I'm stabbing in the dark here still, but we need to start somewhere.

[Bug 1890858] Re: AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

2020-08-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
# Clarify how to fix it #

Your rules out of logprof are interesting.

I have compared them with the one in the package in regard to unix/dgram
rules which is what the denial is about. The only entry your example has
on top is the following:

  network unix dgram,

Could you please try to:
1. revert /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd to the content delivered by the
package in 20.04
2. retry and verify the issue triggers
3. restart libvirtd (systemctl restart libvirtd)
4. retry and verify the issue triggers still
5. add this line above to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd where the other
network rules are
6. sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd
7. restart libvirtd (systemctl restart libvirtd)
8. retry and verify the issue triggers still (or is it fixed now?)

#3 ensures that restarting the service without a change does not by accident
resolve the issue
#6+#7 ensures that the apparmor profile with the change is reloaded and the
rule is good

Please report how that test worked for you.
Hopefully that is the one entry we need, otherwise we need to continue looking
for differences,

[Bug 1890858] Re: AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

2020-08-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Tommy, thank you already for your effort.

I have realized that my answer was rather long, so let me split it into:
- what does happen
- why does it happen
- how to fix

in the following three answers.
Keeping the replies to those separate as well might help to get things right
without confusing everyone :-)

[Bug 1890858] Re: AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

2020-08-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
# Clarify what does happen #

Tracing and Profiling virsh should (tm) not change anything.
The Denial that was reported looks like:
  apparmor="DENIED" operation="bind" profile="libvirtd" comm="libvirtd" ...

So virsh might connect to libvirtd daemon, but then the daemon does something
that is denied.
If the issue is reproducible in your setup, then a good next step would be.

Assumption: let's say "virsh list" reproducibly causes the apparmor denials in
dmesg
1. attach strace to the libvirt daemon process (check `systemctl status
libvirtd` for the pid)
2. run "virsh list"

Report:
- the apparmor denial that was caused
- the strace output of the daemon

I'd hope we can find the call of libvirtd in that strace that causes the
denial.

[Bug 1891950] Re: Missing some French translations

2020-08-18 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
That's an upstream issue. We can't do much about it on the Ubuntu side.
The problem seems to be that they ship older translation files in the
tarball they make available for the distros compared to the translation
files in the repo.

Would suggest that you report the problem here:

[Bug 1891998] [NEW] Fix non-working Goodix touchpad after system sleep

2020-08-18 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
After system sleep, Goodix touchpad doesn't work anymore.

[Fix]
Add a delay after issuing SET_POWER_ON command.

[Test]
With the patch applied, Goodix touchpad still works after system sleep.

[Regression Potential]
The original delay between SET_POWER_ON and RESET was increaed to 60ms,
so the the driver becomes much more forgiving on power management. Hence
I am not seeing any major potential regression risk here.

[Bug 1892010] [NEW] [SRU][F/OEM-5.6/Groovy] Fix acpi backlight issue on some thinkpads

2020-08-18 Thread AaronMa
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On some ThinkPads, the BIOS reported invalid acpi backlight implement .
Then backlight can't be changed because OS use acpi backlight by default.

[Fix]
Check acpi backlight mode, disable it if invalid.

[Test Case]
Verified on 3 models of thinkpad include Intel/NV/AMD GPU with positive results.

[Regression Potential]
Low
Most ThinkPads now use native backlight control by default.
Check the false acpi mode correctly.

[Bug 1892011] [NEW] lubuntu 18.04.5 freezes during many functions

2020-08-18 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

** Summary of problem (Lubuntu 18.04.5 live)

On executing `ubuntu-bug`, `apport-collect` or a number of functions
that appear to use decent networking bandwidth, my (ibm thinkpad) r50p &
t42p laptops freeze.

Ctrl+Alt+F4 or no keyboard function seems helpful to try and work out why.
The only keyboard function that still works is SysRq to reboot/turn off etc.

These boxes are running Lubuntu 18.04.5 LTS in LIVE only. These issues do not
occur when same is done with 18.04.4 in same way with LIVE, where no video
issues occur either.

This only occurs on i386 laptops where I need to use `forcepae
--forcepae` to get the Lubuntu 18.04 LTS to boot, though I've only found
this occurs on two boxes

- ibm thinkpad t42p (pentium m, 2gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2; rv350/m10
gl)
- ibm thinkpad r50p (pentium m, 1gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2; rv350/m10
gl)

A slightly more modern ibm thinkpad t43 (pentium m, 1.5gb ram, radeon
x300) does NOT have this issue, but doesn't require `forcepae` to boot
(t43 has 18.04 installed though GA kernel)

** To re-create this bug

1. Boot r50p or t42p using required "forcepae --forcepae" option on linux
kernel line
2. open terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T
3. enter "apport-collect 1891790"

I'd expect this to work & not crash/lock system. In uploaded picture the
only extra step was loading 2 terminals, one with with `watch -n 'dmesg
|tail'` o the other window.

This has been attempted many times over last ~3 days, or step 3 was
originally `ubuntu-bug linux` which likewise locks/crashes.

It's not always identical... At times firefox doesn't start, the picture
is of the furthest I got with firefox started before hand & me already
logged into launchpad.. but bug hasn't been filed in >10 attempts from
either box.

** Background

In scanning many problems reported on support forums after Lubuntu's
18.04.5 release, such as

- thinkpad x31
https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/reviving-thinkpad-x31-problems-with-messed-up-screen/1457/
- thinkpad t42
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2448800&p=13979514#post13979514
- thinkpad t41
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1266918/latest-updates-to-lubuntu-18-04-4-lts-32-bit-create-almost-impossible-graphics-i

I started doing some exploration using my boxes I found were also
impacted

- ibm thinkpad t42p (pentium m, 2gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2; rv350/m10
gl)
- ibm thinkpad r50p (pentium m, 1gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2; rv350/m10
gl)

This led to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1891790
(where I do mention this problem)

** other details

I have a photo attached showing a little of the crash from a `watch -n 1
'dmesg |tail`. The text in the terminal is hard to read due to other bug
I mentioned (what I was exploring that made me keep coming up on this
issue). Photo can also be seen via
https://photos.app.goo.gl/uZDAEmtZk95nx8vs9 (photo is t42p)

I tried to `sudo apt install openssh-server` hoping to `ssh` into the
laptop from elsewhere and have easier to see messages, however the `apt
install` causes an crash like `ubuntu-bug`, `apport-collect` etc.

The crash (as in lockup of video) occurs faster on the r50p ?? Other
than it having less RAM (1gb of half t42p) I can't see why I keep having
the r50p always crash far earlier/easier.

I have noted a linux kernel crash file appears in /var/crash,however
`ubuntu-bug` of that file causes lockup. With bad display (due other
bug) it's hard to view (and usually I `scp` file to the r50p but it's
down as involved in this testing)

I may have filed on the wrong package, maybe it relates to xorg-server??
but I can't see that being able to stop me from switching to a text
terminal (ie. ctrl+alt+f4) which is why I've filed against linux kernel.

Both systems are reliable with Lubuntu 18.04.4 or before, and are used
by me. The r50p I always have running & is only rebooted when I use it
for QA testing (rarely). The t42p isn't running all the time but is
still used (it has dead USB ports so ISO was booted off hdd by installed
`grub`)

[Bug 1892013] [NEW] libzip needs update and build agains proper libssl-dev not libcrypt

Public bug reported:

Currently libzip in ubuntu very old (1.2.1).
Also libzip have to be builded with cmake with proper encryption library like

libzip builded against libcrpyt(libxcrypt) seems doesnt support AES256 at all.

[Bug 1892014] [NEW] 18.04.14.7 regression: no alt_shift_toggle in XKBOPTIONS

2020-08-18 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Up to ubuntu-mate-18.04.1.iso, everything was fine. Starting with
18.04.2, XKB_OPTIONS does not contain "alt_shift_toggle" anymore and we
cannot switch the keyboard layout to e.g. Greek using Alt+Shift.

Reading the changelog, I see:

$ ~/source/ubiquity$ git show 786a5325ef
+console-setup (1.178ubuntu6) cosmic; urgency=medium
+
+ * keyboard-configuration.{config,templates}: There is no good default for
+layout toggling, stop pretending there is. Console users can set one
+with dpkg-reconfigure or editing /etc/defaults/keyboard (LP: #1762952)

I'm guessing that ubiquity duplicates some code from console-setup, and
LP: #1762952 caused this regression.

To reproduce:
1) Start ubuntu-mate-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso
2) Select Ελληνικά (Greek) and start installing Ubuntu using the default options
3) Right after the keyboard layout step, run:
$ grep XKBOPTIONS /etc/default/keyboard
XKBOPTIONS="grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
4) Verify that you can switch to Greek with Alt+Shift

Starting from ubuntu-mate-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso (.1=OK, .2=BAD), we cannot
switch to Greek using Alt+Shift anymore:
$ grep XKBOPTIONS /etc/default/keyboard
XKBOPTIONS="grp_led:scroll"

Does ubiquity really expect the users to run `dpkg-reconfigure console-
setup`?

Note that selecting Greek in the syslinux menu produces the correct
XKBOPTIONS, yet ubiquity overwrites them later on with the wrong ones.

[Bug 1762952] Re: Alternative shortcut for layout switching Alt+Shift unexpectedly set by default

2020-08-18 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Hi, this fix caused a regression in ubiquity: LP: #1892014

Ubiquity doesn't put alt_shift_toggle in XKBOPTIONS anymore, so we
cannot switch to e.g. Greek using Alt+Shift, after going through a
normal installation (or even in the live session).

Are users expected to manually run `dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-
configuration` right after a GUI installation of Ubuntu?

E.g. ubuntu-mate-18.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso is affected while 18.04.1
isn't.

Should this issue be resolved in console-setup or in ubiquity?

[Bug 1876506] Re: eoan to focal upgrade hangs when lvm snapshot is present

2020-08-18 Thread Julian Andres Klode
** Also affects: memtest86+ (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Upgrading on LVM systems with snapshots hangs
+
+ [Test case]
+
+ - Install VM with eoan
+ - Upgrade memtest86+ to focal
+
+ This hangs, when it shouldn't.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ The change to memtest86+ closes file descriptor 3 when invoking update-grub
like other callers do, which fixes the issue. File descriptor 3 is the debconf
socket. If update-grub would need to communicate with debconf, it couldn't
anymore. But seeing that we do this everywhere else, this should be fine.
+
+ [Original bug report]
+
When upgrading from 19.10 (w/ LVM + encypted disks) to 20.04, the
installer hangs when trying to probe an LVM snapshot volume created
  before the upgrade.

  Steps to reproduce:

- lvcreate -s -L 20G -n preupgrade /dev/vgubuntu/root
+ lvcreate -s -L 20G -n preupgrade /dev/vgubuntu/root
  do-release-upgrade -d

The installer will hang after the following message:

  /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem.
  Found Ubuntu 19.10 (19.10) on /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-preupgrade
  done

  Resolution:

Killing the grub-mount process which is probing the LVM snapshot seems
to unhang the installer and allow the upgrade to complete without issue.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Upgrading on LVM systems with snapshots hangs

  [Test case]

- - Install VM with eoan
- - Upgrade memtest86+ to focal
+ - Install VM with eoan, LVM
+ - Create snapshot of root
+ - Upgrade memtest86+ to focal (download deb and apt install it is enough)

  This hangs, when it shouldn't.

  [Regression potential]
The change to memtest86+ closes file descriptor 3 when invoking update-grub
like other callers do, which fixes the issue. File descriptor 3 is the debconf
socket. If update-grub would need to communicate with debconf, it couldn't
anymore. But seeing that we do this everywhere else, this should be fine.

  [Original bug report]

When upgrading from 19.10 (w/ LVM + encypted disks) to 20.04, the
installer hangs when trying to probe an LVM snapshot volume created
  before the upgrade.

  Steps to reproduce:

  lvcreate -s -L 20G -n preupgrade /dev/vgubuntu/root
  do-release-upgrade -d

The installer will hang after the following message:

  /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem.
  Found Ubuntu 19.10 (19.10) on /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-preupgrade
  done

  Resolution:

Killing the grub-mount process which is probing the LVM snapshot seems
to unhang the installer and allow the upgrade to complete without issue.

[Bug 1892014] Re: 18.04.14.7 regression: no alt_shift_toggle in XKBOPTIONS

2020-08-18 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I was undoubtedly involved in the fix of bug #1762952.

Why is there a need to switch keyboard layout during the installation?

As regards post-install, i.e. at first boot/login, the desktop
environment ought to provide some default shortcut for switching input
sources.

[Bug 1888101] Re: 'unsupported protocol' error when using PyMySQL

2020-08-18 Thread Luis Alfredo Contreras
Hi, I had the same issue but I found a solution.

I was creating a docker container based on ubuntu 20.04 and Python3.8.2.
It installed openssl by default. The version from 2020-Mar-31 12:41:55
openssl-1.1.1f.tar.gz was giving me an this error: ssl.SSLError: [SSL:
UNSUPPORTED_PROTOCOL] unsupported protocol (_ssl.c:1108). After looking
for solutions, I found this link: https://cloudwafer.com/blog
/installing-openssl-on-ubuntu-16-04-18-04/. In that link, you can find
how to install openssl from the source. It shows you how to install the
version from 2019-May-28 13:26:28 openssl-1.1.1c.tar.gz. First I built
my container as originally and logged in and I followed the steps in the
link. It solved my problem. The latest version from March 2020 was
causing the issue.

I added the lines of code below when building the docker container to
automate the steps. See:

RUN apt install build-essential checkinstall zlib1g-dev -y
WORKDIR /usr/local/src/
RUN wget https://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-1.1.1c.tar.gz && tar -xf
openssl-1.1.1c.tar.gz
WORKDIR openssl-1.1.1c
RUN ./config --prefix=/usr/local/ssl --openssldir=/usr/local/ssl shared zlib &&
make && make install
COPY ./openssl-1.1.1c.conf /etc/ld.so.conf.d/
RUN ldconfig -v && mv /usr/bin/c_rehash /usr/bin/c_rehash.backup && mv
/usr/bin/openssl /usr/bin/openssl.backup
ENV
PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games:/usr/local/ssl/bin"

* Note that I created the openssl-1.1.1c.conf file before building the
container. The file is copied from the same directory where the dockerfile is
saved. Create the file with that name and paste this inside: /usr/local/ssl/lib

I hope this helps.

1) the offering will be based on Ubuntu 20.04

2) it is okay for us to use clang-8

3) we will rerun the workload to check if this combination works fine.

Does that answer your requesting and let you proceed.

[Bug 1891767] Re: Nautilus not showing video thumbnails

2020-08-18 Thread Saurav Sengupta
Sorry, can't relate times exactly. It was after I installed all the
libav and gstreamer libraries, and it happens every time. Personally, I
don't see a connection with the logs, but it seems to me that the issue
has started after Nautilus was upgraded to 3.37.90. The older ones
(e.g., 3.37.3 or 3.37.1) didn't have the issue.

[Bug 1891790] Re: lubuntu 18.04.5 text unreadable on old thinkpads (radeon, HWE 5.4 kernel only)

2020-08-18 Thread Chris Guiver
I've finally managed to file
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1892011
over the locking-up/crashing I've mentioned in this report..

These boxes (r50p & t42p) are used regularly by me (r50p is ALWAYS on &
up) and run Lubuntu 18.04.4 LTS normally in test (both actually have
debian installed and not a Ubuntu flavor)

Also note: I booted Kubuntu 18.04.5 on r50p and it has the same video issue
described in this report. The issue is not specific to Lubuntu & LXDE.

** Summary changed:

- lubuntu 18.04.5 text unreadable on old thinkpads (radeon, HWE 5.4 kernel only)
+ k/lubuntu 18.04.5 text unreadable on old thinkpads (radeon, HWE 5.4 kernel
only)

** Description changed:

  ** Summary
Screen is unreadable much of the time with black badly-tuned-digital-tv type
fragments covering image. As you action things (use a menu, click on a
different window etc) the black fragments move (though often only parts of
screen; not all of screen)

  ** Background

This was looked into because of a number of support requests and I
detected a pattern. All users are using the HWE kernel, and issue
didn't occur using 18.04.4, though I personally only tested the live
  daily (during the development cycle).

  - thinkpad x31

https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/reviving-thinkpad-x31-problems-with-messed-up-screen/1457/
  - thinkpad t42
  https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2448800&p=13979514#post13979514
  - thinkpad t41

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1266918/latest-updates-to-lubuntu-18-04-4-lts-32-bit-create-almost-impossible-graphics-i

  (and I believe others before I recognized the pattern & started noting;
I ignored initially as I had no issues with t43, not having used the
t42p or r50p in QA testing for awhile - a scan of my QA-testing live
will show when I tested with each box in first line of comments). I've
also seen this on very different boxes to old thinkpads too.

  My boxes impacted

  - ibm thinkpad t42p (pentium m, 2gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2;
rv350/m10 gl)
  - ibm thinkpad r50p (pentium m, 1gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2;
rv350/m10 gl)

  ** 20.04/HWE kernel only

If I live QA-test using the 18.04.4 ISO or released image, no issues
occur (using 5.3 kernel & it's packages). Likewise I have no issues
using the GA (4.15) kernel in testing (the r50p was used more regularly
in testing in prior bionic cycles, alas not much in 18.04.5
development/recently; expecting same results with thinkpad t43 which
  does not have this issue)

This report should possibly be filed on xserver-xorg. I've only
experienced it with old radeon thinkpads (but screen on box makes it
  difficult to explore)

(Filed online as I've been struggling to file this on actual box)
+
+ I get the same issue when using Kubuntu 18.04.5 live on r50p

Booted final Kubuntu 18.04.5 LTS RC in live mode.

I get the same response (didn't even get to enter any commands, as the

  - ibm thinkpad r50p (pentium m, 1gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2;
rv350/m10 gl)

A slightly more modern ibm thinkpad t43 (pentium m, 1.5gb ram, radeon
x300) does NOT have this issue, but doesn't require `forcepae` to boot
(t43 has 18.04 installed though GA kernel)

  ** To re-create this bug

  1. Boot r50p or t42p using required "forcepae --forcepae" option on linux
kernel line
  2. open terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T
  3. enter "apport-collect 1891790"

I'd expect this to work & not crash/lock system. In uploaded picture the
only extra step was loading 2 terminals, one with with `watch -n 'dmesg
  |tail'` o the other window.

This has been attempted many times over last ~3 days, or step 3 was
  originally `ubuntu-bug linux` which likewise locks/crashes.

It's not always identical... At times firefox doesn't start, the picture
is of the furthest I got with firefox started before hand & me already
logged into launchpad.. but bug hasn't been filed in >10 attempts from
  either box.

  ** Background

In scanning many problems reported on support forums after Lubuntu's
  18.04.5 release, such as

  - thinkpad x31

https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/reviving-thinkpad-x31-problems-with-messed-up-screen/1457/
  - thinkpad t42
  https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2448800&p=13979514#post13979514
  - thinkpad t41

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1266918/latest-updates-to-lubuntu-18-04-4-lts-32-bit-create-almost-impossible-graphics-i

I started doing some exploration using my boxes I found were also
  impacted

  - ibm thinkpad t42p (pentium m, 2gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2;
rv350/m10 gl)
  - ibm thinkpad r50p (pentium m, 1gb ram, amd/ati mobility firegl t2;
rv350/m10 gl)

  `grub`)
+
+ Same issue is occurring with Kubuntu 18.04.5 ISO booted live (it's the
+ final RC which I believe is identical to released system)

  [Regression Potential]

   * It is possible that there may be regressions in this roll-up, the
most likely candidate being the port from libslab_handle_g_error to the
built-in GLib logging framework in MATE Control Center.

   * That said, these fixes have been well tested by the Ubuntu MATE QA
team using our testing PPA for Focal and via uploads to the Groovy
archive; many issues are confirmed as fixed.

  [Other Info]

-  * The Ubuntu MATE QA team have been tracking numerous papercut issues

the upstream CI/CD which includes Ubuntu Focal and Groovy as well as
  other prominent distributions.

   * All updates have already been uploaded to Debian unstable.

   * Some of the issues resolved have not resulted in an associated LP bug

[Bug 1890881] Re: qemu-user-static 1:5.0-5ubuntu4 in groovy does not start armhf container

2020-08-18 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hmm, I can recreate the issue myself.
So I thought - yeah onto bisect !

But I fail to get a self built /usr/bin/qemu-arm-static into this.
I wanted to see if 5.1 from git would work and then bisect from there.
But no matter what I try it keeps breaking on the same error.

/me starts to wonder where in the chain of KVM host, qemu-arm-static in
the guest, systemd-nspawn in the guest that binary really would need to
be.

At least
$ sudo apt remove qemu-user-static
$ sudo systemd-nspawn -D /var/lib/machines/armhf-focal  -M armhf-focal -b
Spawning container armhf-focal on /var/lib/machines/armhf-focal.
Press ^] three times within 1s to kill container.
execv(/usr/lib/systemd/systemd, /lib/systemd/systemd, /sbin/init) failed: Exec
format error
Container armhf-focal failed with error code 1.

So the qemu-static binfmt is used as I'd have assumed.

Init is systemd which is:
$ sudo file /var/lib/machines/armhf-focal/lib/systemd/systemd
/var/lib/machines/armhf-focal/lib/systemd/systemd: ELF 32-bit LSB shared
object, ARM, EABI5 version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter
/lib/ld-linux-armhf.so.3,
BuildID[sha1]=3ca7712fe69ab99bb55585c35af762a2491fc856, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0,
stripped

But even if I delete ALL /usr/bin/qemu* binaries it still does the same.

$ sudo systemd-nspawn -D /var/lib/machines/armhf-focal  -M armhf-focal -b
Spawning container armhf-focal on /var/lib/machines/armhf-focal.
Press ^] three times within 1s to kill container.
systemd 245.4-4ubuntu3 running in system mode. (+PAM +AUDIT +SELINUX +IMA
+APPARMOR +SMACK +SYSVINIT +UTMP +LIBCRYPTSETUP +GCRYPT +GNUTLS +ACL +XZ +LZ4
+SECCOMP +BLKID +ELFUTILS +KMOD +IDN2 -IDN +PCRE2 default-hierarchy=hybrid)
Detected virtualization systemd-nspawn.
Detected architecture arm.

Welcome to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS!

Set hostname to .
Caught , dumped core as pid 3.
Exiting PID 1...
Container armhf-focal failed with error code 255.

The target in /var/lib/machines/armhf-focal/ only has core dumps of
qemu_systemd and bash completions. It can't come from there either.

I beg your pardon for not being a nspawn+mmbootstrap expert but WTH
where would I need to place my new qemu binary that I need to test ?

@Rafael - if you see where I'm blocking my own insight please feel free
to speak up and let me know :-)
