[Bug 1876758] Re: Menu bar missing for various applications

2020-07-28 Thread roots
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Meanwhile, due to the above and other
issues and because I need the system for productive work, I have
switched to mate. However, I just logged into a Gnome Flashback Metacity
session and to my big surprise recognized that the missing menu bars are
actually located in the bottom (gnome-)panel, instead of at the top of
the application's window. I am not sure if they already were there when
I initially reported the bug, because I usually use auto-hide for that
panel and only rarely raise it.

I have attached the dump as requested.

[Bug 1889159] [NEW] Problems with secondary display & mouse cursor

2020-07-28 Thread Jochen Barth
Public bug reported:

since 2020-08-27 the secondary display (1600x1200) (attached via analog
vga cable) of my Thinkpad-T60 model 2007-qpg (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400)
does shows some pinkish content on the right fifth.

Unattaching the display, using the laptop display does work, but mouse
cursor (see below) has the same problem.

Furthermore the mouse cursor is - instead of the usual arrow - a
vertical dotted line of 16 pixel with approx. 4 pixel spacing. Changing
mouse cursor layout in settings does not help.

Since this laptop always worked without any flaw, I assume a software
bug.

[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)

2020-07-28 Thread mlx
@hui.wang - yes, I have seen this a few times in Focal since upgrading
about a month ago. I didn't look at the logs closely, but the message
that appears repeatedly after the interface fails is "eth0: kevent 0 may
have been dropped" I think, and bug #1647397 may be related/identical.

User from that bug ascribes the cause to the use of bridge, and this is
my case. @Matt, are you also running the interface in a bridge?

[Bug 1888983] Re: Suspend notification wakes external monitor.

2020-07-28 Thread lb design
Created a new issue on gitlab.gnome.org #3021

The notification wakes my external monitor only to present itself then suspends
the laptop leaving the monitor to restart it's 30 min. turn off cycle. My
monitor is set to go black as I set in gnome-settings, then turn of after 30
min set on the monitor itself.

I might word that better. The external monitor goes black on inactivity
and is on it's way to sleep only to be waken up by the suspend
notification. Then it goes black again and have to wait 30 min before it
goes to sleep.

The error is not shown in any of those logs. It might have been repaired
already in which case this bug can be closed. But if you want to be sure
then try opening the 'Disks' app and do a "Check Filesystem".

[Bug 1872159] Re: booting with splash hangs when external monitors are connected

2020-07-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please tell us if this also works around the problem:

1. Edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncomment:

   #WaylandEnable=false

   so it is now:

   WaylandEnable=false

2. Reboot.

[Bug 1888585] Re: seahorse crash: glib-watch.c:195: timeout_update: Assertion `!t->dead' failed

2020-07-28 Thread Elias Rudberg
> * Is this reproducible?

I don't have an exact way to reproduce it but it happens hundreds of
times each day, presumably for many different users, as seen at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/

However, although the "seahorse (seahorse) glib-watch.c → 195 →
timeout_update → Assertion `!t->dead'' failed." error is listed there at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/ as one of the most frequent crashes, it has
no bug report assigned to it there. How can we associate the error at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/ to this bug report?

I see that the importance was set to "low" -- is that really a good idea
given that this is one of the most frequent crashes at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/ ?

[Bug 1888691] Re: [uc20] rpi4 does not boot with armhf on recent 5.4 kernel snaps

2020-07-28 Thread Juerg Haefliger
5.4.0-1015-raspi works just fine on armhf classic so there's nothing
wrong per se with the kernel and DTBs. The fact that this works on a
different Pi makes be believe that it's a DTB issue. Is this the
gadget/kernel out-of-sync refresh issue? Is the Pi trying to boot the
1015 kernel using the 1013 DTBs?

[Bug 1889178] [NEW] Volume OSD stutters game

2020-07-28 Thread Strick Mcfingle
Public bug reported:

>From https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/3020
===

Affected version

Ubuntu 20.04
GNOME Shell 3.36.3
Don't know if Wayland or XOrg is applicable

Bug summary

The volume OSD on Ubuntu 20.04, which I assume is a GNOME notification based on
a reddit thread I read, when adjusting volume will stutter any game I am
playing and will completely freeze my computer when I'm in a certain fullscreen
application.
Multiple people have this issue; some the volume OSD will stutter their game
some it will minimize their game when adjusting the volume.
I made a bug post on r/GNOME but I found this gitlab and thought it might be
more appropriate to file an issue here on gitlab.
Link to my post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/hz9jcj/gnome_notification_like_ubuntu_volume_osd_is/

Steps to reproduce stutter:

Start up any game like CS:GO for example, it's completely free to play.
If you own Minecraft that works too it's way faster to load.

Now enter a game and move mouse around while adjusting volume or move
character while adjusting volume and observe stutter.

Now the freeze, I used technic launcher which requires a Minecraft
account; but technic launcher is ran as an executable jar file so I hope
that helps; maybe it can also reproduced by running a jar file eg a game
in fullscreen. However I know these steps work on the technic launcher

How to reproduce freeze:

Download the technic launcher jar file to desktop
Right click jar file and allow executing of file as program under permissions
Double click the jar file to run it
Log in
Install empty forge 1.12.2
After installed run that modpack (empty forge 1.12.2)
Head into options and enable fullscreen
Adjust volume and observe freeze (I'll try to capture this in OBS if I can)

What happened

After reproducing the steps above the game stutters every time the
volume OSD is drawn.

What did you expect to happen

The volume OSD should draw without lagging anything.

Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.

I will download obs and record it happening then post to youtube and provide a
link. This will take some time.

2) Any video game. I used Minecraft 1.16.1 and CS:GO
3) Volume OSD shows up and doesn't stutter game
4) Volume OSD shows up and stutters game

I attatched a short video showing the stutter while in a singleplayer
world of Minecraft.

OK, your disk is corrupt, which is also not a software bug sorry :(

Reinstalling Ubuntu (and wiping the old disk contents) might fix it. If
reinstalling does not fix it then you may need to replace the SSD.

Looking at the code it seems the assertion that was triggered is in the

this as a duplicate of bug #1820584 for avahi.

[Bug 1875292] Re: Double click on window titlebar pass through to what's below

2020-07-28 Thread Arham Amouei
I am facing a similar problem, but unlike the case of the bug reporter,
in my case it happens when "double-click on top bar of window to
minimize" feature is not enabled. I have never enabled that feature.

My original description of the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888975

I'd like to emphasize that in my case if right behind the titlebar there
is another window (not desktop), the double click on the titlebar is not
transferred to that window or to desktop.

2020-07-28 Thread Alberto Milone
** Description changed:

+ SRU Request:
+

+
+ 1) Call the deprecated "ubuntu-drivers autoinstall".
+
+ 2) Enable the -proposed repository, and install the new ubuntu-drivers-
+ common (0.8.4~0.20.04.3).
+
+ 3) Check that the command does not crash ubuntu-drivers.
+
+ 3) Restart your computer, and see if everything works correctly when

[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)

2020-07-28 Thread Seamus Ryan
I can confirm I am also seeing a very similar set of circumstances:

-Hardware name: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus Rev 1.3 (DT)
-5.4.0-1015-raspi #15-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 10 05:34:24 UTC 2020 aarch64 aarch64
aarch64 GNU/Linux
-The "tunnel" in my case is using Wireguard to a server hosted externally.
-Wireless continues to work
-eth0 drops (can get arp but not packets)
-Reboot is the only fix

-Happens randomly, haven't been able to pinpoint the actual cause in my
case

[Bug 1889182] [NEW] Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x0

2020-07-28 Thread Karen Cockerill
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version 20.04.1 LTS (was previously running 18.04.4 LTS and upgraded to
try to resolve this issue)
Intel Corporation Wireless-AC 9260

Problems with WiFi connection slowly grinding to a halt. From /var/syslog (see
attachment for further info from the log):
Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x200.

This occurred first a couple of days ago presumably following an update. The
logs /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log filled up with the disk repeated
attempts to restart the WiFi.
I upgraded to the latest release of Ubuntu hoping to fix the problem. Also
worth mentioning that I don't think its a hardware problem as wiFi works when I
boot up from a USB pen drive.

** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Extracts from /var/log/syslog & /var/log/kern.log"

[Bug 1889181] Re: ubuntu-drivers: fails with the deprecated autoinstall argument

2020-07-28 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello errors.ubuntu.com, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubuntu-drivers-common into focal-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/ubuntu-drivers-common/1:0.8.4~0.20.04.3 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: ubuntu-drivers-common (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-focal

[Bug 1889166] Re: mir: build failure on s390x

2020-07-28 Thread Alan Griffiths
Looking at the code, it is written correctly and handles the case where
strncpy() "truncates before the terminating nul". It is unfortunate that
this triggers a warning.
