[Bug 1832087] Re: Intel WIRELESS-AC 9260 (2526:0010) Wi-Fi doesn't work on kernel > 5.0.0-16

2019-07-16 Thread You-Sheng Yang
@phil995511, bug 1830961 fails recent kernel build, so v5.2 is not
available. And, actually backport-iwlwifi-dkms has all the mandatory
changes to enable iwlwifi devices, while mainline kernel may not. So I
would still recommend you to use backport-iwlwifi-dkms instead.

[Bug 1836706] [NEW] linux-aws builds modules which are not shipped

2019-07-16 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification]

== Impact ==

The build of AWS kernels currently is set up in a way that, like the
generic kernel, builds a larger number of modules than it actually
provides in the main modules package. However, unlike the generic
kernel, it does not provide a linux-modules-extra which contains all
those built modules.

So there is no way for users to get modules which were deemed
unnecessary in the AWS cloud space. But this also causes problems in
cases where out of tree modules are being tried to compile. Those will
configure themselves based on the provided config and then might depend
on functionality which is provided in some module that is not part of
the non-extra set.

== Fix ==

To fix this, but also to get all of the kernels aligned, the AWS kernel
should start to provide a linux-modules-extra which contains all those
modules not shipped in the main modules packages. Since the default
linux-aws meta package is supposed to only install the minimal set,
there needs to be a linux-modules-extra-aws meta package which keeps the
extra modules in sync with the kernel.

== Testcase ==

sudo apt-get install linux-modules-extra-aws

This should download and install additional kernel modules.

== Risk of Regression ==

Low, this will start to ship an additional package which is not
installed by default.

[Bug 1836708] [NEW] Please package libbpf (which is done out of the kernel src) in Debian [for 19.10]

2019-07-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
Debian packages libbpf and so far does so out of the kernel source [1].
There is some movement to separate that from the kernel source [2] but this
isn't ready yet. So far it is just a sync of the subtree out of the kernel
sources.

Since we do not share our kernel packaging we will not get this for-free
without doing anything.
If there will be an ITP about it in Debian I'll let you know and we can abort
this, but unless that really happens I wanted to ask if you could as well build
the libbpf* packages for 19.10 and onward?

Note: this is not the same bpf lib as [3] despite the similarity in
names.

Reasoning:
BPF becomes more and more important in general and is used in the kernel for
many things. In the case that brought it to my attention it will be a PMD of
DPDK that will need it to control XDP [4]. And XDP in general is an interesting
and rising feature for network acceleration - I'd think it would be helpful to
have this package around in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1836708] Re: Please package libbpf (which is done out of the kernel src) in Debian [for 19.10]

2019-07-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Due to some accident on bug 1826410 it was closed by scripts/automation every
now and then.
To avoid this APW recommended to create a new bug and make the old bug a dup.
This was done and this is the clone that from now on shall be worked on without
these stray updates.

[Bug 1836707] [NEW] LXD Storage pool on an NFS share strange user mapping

2019-07-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi

Ref: 18.04 LTS

I originally posted this problem on JUJU discourse
(https://discourse.jujucharms.com/t/lxc-with-nfs-storage-pool-fail-
bootstrap-and-deploy/1654) but then move to LXD issue
(https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/5962).

The problem is when an LXD container has a storage pool on an NFS share
is dir mode creating files either touch, vim, ... the UID of the file is
set to nobody but chown of the file to root fixes the problem.

I am in the process of testing 19.04 and 19.10 as well.

Matthew

[Bug 1836707] Re: LXD Storage pool on an NFS share strange user mapping

2019-07-16 Thread Colin Watson
This isn't a bug against Launchpad (i.e. the launchpad.net site itself).
Judging from the history of https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/5962, it
seems as though Stéphane's view was that it's a kernel bug, so
reassigning there.

reproducible anymore.

If you need more testing later as you indirectly said in #27 just let me
know i keep that testing instance around.

[Bug 1836711] [NEW] Launchpad mirror prober complains about freshness for files in the current archive

2019-07-16 Thread Mattias Wadenstein
Public bug reported:

The launchpad mirror checker complains that our mirror is out of date
for some components:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+mirror/ftp.acc.umu.se-archive

"The Disco Dingoi386One week behind"

When looking into the logs I find this:

Mon Jul 15 10:29:02 2019: Found that
http://ftp.acc.umu.se/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gvfs/gvfs_1.40.1-1ubuntu0.1_i386.deb
exists. Updating MirrorDistroArchSeries of ubuntu disco-security i386
main freshness to One week behind.

But that file still exists in my upstream:

ftp-deb@poincare:~% rsync -rvn
church...@archive.syncproxy.ubuntu.com::ubuntu/pool/main/g/ | grep
gvfs_1.40.1-1ubuntu0.1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r--124,272 2019/07/09 13:40:00
gvfs/gvfs_1.40.1-1ubuntu0.1_i386.deb

This upstream should be canonical with regards to archive content, so
the mirror prober probably needs fixing.

[Bug 1836713] [NEW] upgrade of openvswitch packages resets alternative binaries to auto

2019-07-16 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

Upgrading and existing openvswitch installation which has been manually
configured to use the DPDK alternative binary using:

  sudo update-alternatives --set ovs-vswitchd /usr/lib/openvswitch-
switch-dpdk/ovs-vswitchd-dpdk

results in the ovs-vswitchd being reset back to 'auto':

Setting up openvswitch-switch (2.11.0-0ubuntu2~cloud0) ...
update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/openvswitch-switch/ovs-vswitchd to provide
/usr/sbin/ovs-vswitchd (ovs-vswitchd) in auto mode

The prerm maintainer scripts always remove the alternatives, which purges any
manual setting done of the binaries.

[Bug 1810926] Re: initscript status check is too fragile

2019-07-16 Thread Andrea Ieri
Yeah I agree, service masking is a corner case and it's just making things more
confusing.
I also got misled by the haproxy_status function, which doesn't actually seem
to ever be called (although I still think some return codes are wrong).

My bug report stemmed from seeing on a production server that Pacemaker
was not be able to detect that haproxy was down. Since my initial
analysis (RC=0 simply if PIDFILE exists) was wrong and I can't analyze
the original issue any further, I think this report could be closed.

On the other hand, what Karl found out is still valid: it is a corner
case, but `test -x $HAPROXY || exit 0` isn't really correct. If the
initscript is to be LSB compliant[0], RC=0 must be reserved for success.
The fact that the binary isn't executable doesn't say anything about
whether the process is running, and would make the start action fail.

[if the initscript is not meant to be LSB compliant it should not be
used as a Pacemaker RA, but that's a separate issue]

** Description changed:

  Hi

  Ref: 18.04 LTS

I originally posted this problem on JUJU discourse
  (https://discourse.jujucharms.com/t/lxc-with-nfs-storage-pool-fail-
bootstrap-and-deploy/1654) but then move to LXD issue
  (https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/5962).

The problem is when an LXD container has a storage pool on an NFS share
is dir mode creating files either touch, vim, ... the UID of the file is
set to nobody but chown of the file to root fixes the problem.

I am in the process of testing 19.04 and 19.10 as well.

Seems to have worked. We need to SRU this now.

** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
  eoan:

  livecd-rootfs | 2.599

  bionic:

  livecd-rootfs | 2.525.27

Images currently being built have non-functional snaps. Seeding never
  finishes, and the journal contains:

  Jul 15 13:52:16 ubuntu snapd[944]: stateengine.go:102: state ensure
error: devicemgr: cannot proceed without seeding "core"

+ [ Fix ]
+
+ Explicitly seed 'core', since snapd still requires it currently.
+
+ [ QA ]
+
+ Boot a desktop ISO to the live session. Snap seeding is slow, so wait a
+ couple of minutes. Check that the seeded snaps (e.g. gnome-calculator)
+ are available in the Shell.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Image builds could start failing. They'll now have core where they
+ didn't before, so that is a size increase.
+
+ [ Original report (rest of) ]
+
  seed.yaml doesn't contain core:

- ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /var/lib/snapd/seed/seed.yaml

2019-07-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Tags pushed and uploaded to B/D unapproved for the SRU Team to do a
final review and accept.

I also marked Cosmic as Won't Fix as it will be out of support before
this SRU completes.

Further I added libvirt Tasks where the next step is for rafaeldtinoco
to find if/what we'd need to make the added qemu feature more
accessible/usable by higher levels (Bionic/Disco).

2019-07-16 Thread Dave Jones
It would be nice to start building compressed arm64 kernels for eoan,
but it may have to wait a bit as the core boot-env won't yet handle this
correctly (that doesn't matter for core-16, but core-18 has arm64
images).

[Bug 1828500] Re: snapd fails always in Optimised Ubuntu Desktop images available in Microsoft Hyper-V gallery

2019-07-16 Thread Tobias Koch
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Failing to do error checks on `snap-tool info` calls while determining
+ the bases of snaps can lead to inconsistently-seeded images as reported
+ in the original bug report below.
+
+ * This affects all stable releases which use automatic detection of the
+ base snap during image builds.
+
+ * The changes proposed introduce extra error checking which should
+ result in a build error, if the `snap-tool info` call fails, thus
+ preventing distribution of a broken image.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * It may be tricky to reproduce the exact error on demand. But it should
+ be clear by looking at the code path in
+
+ https://code.launchpad.net/~tobijk/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd-
+ rootfs/+merge/370096
+
+ that the scenario described below may arise.
+
+ * A way to test that the changes have no *negative* impact on
+ functionality is to run a script such as
+
+ https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/wQknctr6ys/
+
+ and compare it against the expected result
+
+ https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/N8PXRJJV9b/
+
+ (In this case both core and core18 should have been seeded.) and
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The regression potential for these changes is low, as they only add
+ extra error checking but do not change the existing logic.
+
+ --- Original Bug Report ---
+
Alway fails in both 18.04.2 and 19.04
Reporting the bug failed too yesterday.
- As a consequence LivePatch and everything else fails that is based on snapd.
+ As a consequence LivePatch and everything else fails that is based on snapd.
This makes system unusable. This is a supported configuration.

[Bug 1836717] [NEW] Ubuntu-18.04.2 nightly system update caused plymouth initramfs failure

2019-07-16 Thread paranioid factoid
Public bug reported:

After last night's system update, gdm3 can no longer start a display
server. Looking into it, I found there was a failure building a new
initramfs. Running kernel 4.18.0-25-lowlatency. Here's the error
message. Have to type it in by hand as I'm using a pseudotty console on
the affected machine.

# update-initramfs -u -v

[blah blah]

Calling hook plymouth
Adding binary /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/plymouth//script.so
E: /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/plymouth failed with return 1
Removing /boot/initrd-img-4.18.0-25-lowlatency.dpkg-bak
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-4.18.0-25-lowlatency with 1
#

Please note the double slash between "plymouth//script.so" which is in
the text of the error message.

I did attempt to reinstall plymouth.

# apt-get install --reinstall plymouth-*

which worked, in that it reinstalled, but did not succeed in rebuilding
the kernel initramdisk.

[Bug 1836718] Re: lubuntu install crashes

2019-07-16 Thread Paul White
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of-life on April 25, 2019.

(and specifically Lubuntu some time earlier)

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then
find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu/Lubuntu version,
please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in and
change the bug status to Confirmed.

[Bug 1836713] Re: upgrade of openvswitch packages resets alternative binaries to auto

2019-07-16 Thread James Page
This is a somewhat tricky issue as the alternative removal is done in
the prerm script of the currently installed package version; so we can
fix it for future updates, but the act of fixing it will cause any -dpdk
based installations to revert back to the non-dpdk version of the
binary.

[Bug 1836154] Re: [18.04 FEAT] zKVM: Add hardware CPU Model - qemu part

2019-07-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
directly picking changes for Disco:
- at first works fine until f2a7d157 "add z14 GA2 model"
  context misses S390_FEAT_GROUP_MULTIPLE_EPOCH_PTFF in
target/s390x/gen-features.c
The define of default_GEN14_GA2 is easily added, but I wonder if the change
before being
ddf5d18a "mepochptff: warn when no mepoch and re-align group init" might also
need:
84176c79 "s390x/cpumodel: default enable mepoch for z14 and later"
I'll try to build it without, but let me know what you think about that.

- further as we have known already d05be57d needs
  - target/s390x/cpu_features.c -> target/s390x/cpu_features_def.inc.h
  - DEF-FEAT -> FEAT_INIT
  No questions on this one.

[Bug 1530391] Re: Tried to install into a GUID partition table, but failed

2019-07-16 Thread sudodus
@Areeb Yasir,

When booted live-only, I wiped the casper-rw partitions's upper
directory except the home subdirectory, and things started to work again
in Lubuntu daily :-)

I don't know exactly what was causing the problem, but this action
solved it. (But we do not know if you have the same problem even if the
symptoms look the same.)

Actual behavior:

Description:

This problem affects all releases from xenial up to eoan!

The rather central functionality to add entries via DOI rather than
copy&pasteing every singe field stopped working in versions 3.8.2 and below
because doi.org and several publishers removed support for http in favor of
https. See jabref bug report: https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/2879
This issue has been resolved in version 4.0.0. and following.

Please advance the ubuntu package do version 4.x (published Oct 4, 2017

[Bug 1836715] Re: selftests/powerpc: Remove Power9 paste tests

2019-07-16 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

- we can now move forward and remove the broken paste_unaligned /
paste_last_unaligned test in selftests/powerpc
+ we can now move forward and remove the broken paste_unaligned /
paste_last_unaligned test in selftests/powerpc.
+
+ From the commit message:
+ Paste on POWER9 only works to accelerators and not on real memory. So
these tests just generate a SIGILL.

+ not ok 1..3 selftests: paste_last_unaligned [FAIL]
+ selftests: alignment_handler
+
+
+ (On Power8 these two test will be skipped)
+
+ == Fix ==
+ * 525661ef (selftests/powerpc: Remove Power9 paste tests)
+
+ As Cosmic will reach EOL soon, and we don't have alignment test in
+ Xenial we only need this for Bionic.
+
+
+ == Test ==
+ Patch tested on a P9 node "baltar" and these two tests were removed as
expected.
+
+ Note that this patch will need to be tested with the fix (7e0cf1c9) in
+ bug 1836720 altogether to solve the test compilation issue.
+
+
+ == Regression Potential ==
+ Low.
+ Code change limited to testing tools for Power9 and just removing broken
tests.
