[Bug 1791403] [NEW] postfix 3.3.0 unable to create missing queue directories

2018-09-08 Thread bamyasi
Public bug reported:

# postfix check
/usr/lib/postfix/sbin/post-install: Error: /etc/postfix/postfix-files is not a
file.
postfix/postfix-script: warning: unable to create missing queue directories

No errors were reported during postfix installation. However, no
'postfix-files' file was created in /etc/postfix/ and /etc/postfix
/postfix-files.d/ folder is also empty after the installation.

This also causes a barrage of warning messages in the postfix logs,
e.g.:

/var/log/mail.log:

[Bug 1581597] Re: hplip causes scanimage -L to return the same hp scanner as two devices

2018-09-08 Thread Sergio Callegari
Looks like I cannot anymore use printer URIs with the ?zc=HPxx
instead of the ?IP=xx.yy.zz.ww syntax anymore.

Not so easy to say, because the documentation says nothing about printer
uris and hplip changelogs are a bit too "terse".

If this is the case, then yes, the bug is gone... but at a cost in the
sense that a useful feature is removed (now you need to instruct your AP
to always give the same IP address to your printer, otherwise it will
stop printing, since it can be recognized only by IP and not by product
code).

2018-09-08 Thread Sergio Callegari
Please ignore previous post, just found that ?zc=HPXXYYZZ URIs still
work. Only my printer was sleeping and late to answer...

Thus, BUG IS STILL PRESENT as of hplip 3.17.10 (in fact
3.17.10+repack0-5).

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

I have a wifi connected HP multifunction printer that includes a scanner
  Officejet 4500.

cups is configured to recognize this printer "by name" as in

  hp:/net/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?zc=HPxx

calling scanimage -L causes the scanner associated to the printer to be
returned twice, once with a by-name url and once with a by-address url,
  namely as

  device 'hpaio:/net/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?zc=HPxx' is a Hewlett-
  Packard Officejet_4500_G510n-z all-in-one

[Bug 1581597] UdevDb.txt

2018-09-08 Thread Sergio Callegari
apport information

** Attachment added: "UdevDb.txt"
   https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581597/+attachment/5186362/+files/UdevDb.txt

** Description changed:

I have a wifi connected HP multifunction printer that includes a scanner
  Officejet 4500.

cups is configured to recognize this printer "by name" as in

  hp:/net/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?zc=HPxx

calling scanimage -L causes the scanner associated to the printer to be
returned twice, once with a by-name url and once with a by-address url,
  namely as

  device 'hpaio:/net/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?zc=HPxx' is a Hewlett-
  Packard Officejet_4500_G510n-z all-in-one

  device
  `hpaio:/net/officejet_4500_g510n-z?ip=nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn&queue=false' is a
  Hewlett-Packard Officejet_4500_G510n-z all-in-one

  This is somehow confusing.

[Bug 1761844] Re: Very large emojis displayed in subject line and in the email list

2018-09-08 Thread Wal
Just in to be fair to Canonical or even Thunderbird Developers and their
people it is impossible to test an application for every bug that may
arise. How would you see and test an emoji email would you even think of
it. There are so many things that take place when you start your email
client. I am sure emoji's in emails would be the last thing they would
think of testing.

To give you an example just look at Microsoft and Windows 10 or 7 how
often do updates get released and something breaks. I'm sure Microsoft
do their best to test their updates but sometimes these things just slip
through because of a conflict with the app or the operating system.

Having said that Thunderbird 60.1 will be released any day now and this
bug has been fixed in that release. You will be able to update directly
from your current email client to the new one.

[Bug 1791367] Re: Airplane mode key on Asus ZenBook Flip UX561UD laptop not working in gnome-shell (X or Wayland) but working on console (Cosmic 18.10)

2018-09-08 Thread Mario Vukelic
** Description changed:

Please forgive if filed for wrong package. Problem occurs in X and
Wayland sessions but not on console, so does not seem to be kernel.

Repro on Asus UX561UD with Ubuntu 18.10 up to date:
  1. Log into Gnome X or Gnome Wayland session
  2. Press Fn+F2 which is the airplane mode key

-> Airplane mode should turn on but nothing happens

  3. Switch to console with Ctrl+Alt+F3
  4. Log into console
  5. Press Fn+F2 again
  6. Switch back to GUI session with Ctrl+Alt+F2

-> Airplane mode is on, icon appeared in Gnome task bar

  Same for turning it off.

No difference when booting 18.04.1 live image

- This laptop seems not the only one with this problem. I got the idea of
trying the console trick from ArenaL5's answer on Askubuntu, but unfortunately
there is no solution there:

Please let me know whatever I can do to help debug this.

All other Fn+Fx special keys on this laptop work (display brightness,
touchpad off, sound etc.) except for keyboard backlight, but that works
with Ubuntu 18.04.1 and I will file a separate bug for this

This is the same in X and Wayland session. In case it matters, Nvidia

[Bug 1791409] [NEW] LIRC not working on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-09-08 Thread Greg
Public bug reported:

It appears that the LIRC 0.10.0-2 package for Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) is
not working correctly. The usual configuration menu to select your
remote does not come up after installing the package.

Saw some other mentions of this issue as well on the forums:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2396923

This handy blog post shows a workaround of installing an older version
(0.9.0) from xenial to get it to work:

[Bug 1791407] [NEW] Thinkpad L570 UEFI destroyed after BIOS update

2018-09-08 Thread Josef Raschen
Public bug reported:

A BIOS/UEFI update was offered via notification on a ThinkPad L570. In
the "Ubuntu Software" tool clicking to start update first seems not to
work as the update always reappeared when clicking the reload button in
the menu bar. After trying this several times, a popup window was shown
and asks to reboot to finish the update. In parallel I was running the
normal "Software Updater" tool so maybe the popup window came from
there. I triggered the reboot, during reboot, on top of the Lenovo-Logo,
some lines of text appeared (I do not remember the content), then the
display went black and the System starts to beep short every 2 or 3
seconds. After about one minute I manually switched off the system via a
5 second press on the power button. Since then the system is dead: Only
the cooling fan is running, the display stays black (no Lenovo logo
etc.), no beep, nothing. So, I think the UEFI was not flashed correctly.

Release: 18.04
System: Lenovo ThinkPad L570 (Model 20J8)

Sorry, in this state of the system I cannot give any more details about
the system (I am not even sure if the fwupd package is involved in
this), but I just wanted to warn so that others do not run into the same
trap.

[Bug 1790594] Re: The system is not able to detect the touchsreen

2018-09-08 Thread Scorpion
Thanks to owner of the repository we found the solution adding this to the
drivers/platform/x86/silead_dmi.c:
First this section
but is optional if i understood right the important things is to have a DMI
match:
static const struct property_entry mediacom_w700_props[] = {
PROPERTY_ENTRY_U32("touchscreen-size-x", 884),
PROPERTY_ENTRY_U32("touchscreen-size-y", 632),
PROPERTY_ENTRY_STRING("firmware-name",
  "gsl1686-surftab-wintron70-st70416-6.fw"),
PROPERTY_ENTRY_U32("silead,max-fingers", 10),
PROPERTY_ENTRY_BOOL("silead,home-button"),
{ }
};
The the DMI_MARTCH section:
  {
/* Mediacom WinPad 7.0 W700 */
.driver_data = (void *)&surftab_wintron70_st70416_6_data,
.matches = {
DMI_MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "MEDIACOM"),
DMI_MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "WinPad 7 W10 - WPW700"),
},
},

[Bug 1783209] Re: No display plugins found.

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I get the same error message when attempting to run gol from growl-for-
linux 0.8.5-3 on Ubuntu Cosmic. However, I was not able to reproduce the
issue on Debian Sid, so it may be an Ubuntu-specific bug.

I have not yet tried a rebuild, did you try one with the debuild tools,
or just configure/make? The former would rebuild the package including
any added patches, though I haven't checked.

[Bug 1791413] [NEW] Help application hangs when playing a video in NVIDIA hardware using the open source driver on a live session.

2018-09-08 Thread JORGETECH
Public bug reported:

-Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

-Package version: 3.26.0-1ubuntu2

-What I expected to happen:

The videos about "Getting started with GNOME" should play without
issues.

-What happened instead:

Instead of playing the videos the help application hangs until the
WebKit process (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/webkit2gtk-4.0/WebKitWebProcess) crashes.

I was able to reproduce this bug with NVIDIA hardware using the open
source driver inside a live session, using AMD hardware causes no issue
at all.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2018-09-08 Thread dvo
Thanks @Daniel von Vugt for your comment.

Meanwhile I experienced the issue again with the "Workspace Indicator"
extension not being installed, so this cannot be the culprit in my case. Yet
while trying to switch workspaces I briefly saw again that silly Psensor popup
window "Authentication is required to update SMART data from /dev/sda".
Quitting Psensor removed the blockage right away, to this is the extension to
blame.
Where/how best to report this apparent Psensor bug?

I had already unticked Psensor's Preferences -> Providers -> 'Enable
support of udisks2' (as suggested as a workaround elsewhere), but this
did not help. Now I've also unticked Preferences -> Providers -> 'Enable
support of hddtemp daemon'. Since meanwhile all HDD related sensors are
disabled in the Psensor preferences I am rather confident that the very
annoying blockage is gone. (If not, I'll uninstall Psensor, since Gnome
3 is unable to properly deal with its strange behavior.)

[Bug 1753525] Re: Wacom tablet not recognized in Settings > Devices

2018-09-08 Thread mika via ubuntu-bugs
since upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 I have this issue.

gnome desktop on xorg

intuos CTH-480M-S

on startup tablet is in absolute mode, i have to open settings wacom
tablet -> stylus not recognised;

if just clicking on tablet tab button, the tablet switches back to the
set setting (relative).

I had restarted with an older kernel & it was the same so I'd thought it
is a ubuntu issue related top 18.04. I 'll double check that though.
