[Bug 1789570] [NEW] debsums runs concurrently with unattended-upgrades which leads to false positives

2018-08-29 Thread Jasper Spaans
Public bug reported:

On most systems I administer, both debsums and unattended-upgrades are
installed and run from cron daily.

unattended-upgrades has been configured to wait for a random amount of
time before doing its thing, and this every now and then causes it to
perform an upgrade at the time debsums is running.

During such an upgrade (especially of large packages like kernel
headers), debsums can find a mismatch between the files on disk and the
checksums, but these are false positives.

I guess this can be fixed by adding an option to debsums to let it
(read-)lock the dpkg admin dir before doing its job, so it can be
prevented from running concurrently with software altering package
state.

The bug has been observed on 16.04 systems with all upgrades applied,
but looking at the debsums changelogs I see no reason to believe this
has been fixed.

** Affects: debsums (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1334329] Re: Sound input settings not saved

Looks like this is back in 18.04.

I'd like to use laptop's internal mic for telcos, but after boot Ubuntu
always defaults to another sound input and it has to be manually
selected. Can anyone reproduce?

[Bug 1789448] Re: python-scipy does not work because of numpy API mismatch

2018-08-29 Thread Nils Moschuering
You're right! I get:

me@mycomputer:$ python -c "import numpy; print(numpy)"

This is really strange I don't remember installing anything like that on
my own.

ls /home/me/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages

gives me a lot of packages. It was probably installed alongside pandas
or something.

I deleted it and now everything works fine :)

Thank you very much for your time!

Exactly.

No. These are all VMs started in the same go and all IPs have been
successfully assigned via DHCP and all have the same network config
(excpet for the IPs). There is no bridge involved here, instead
everything is done via NAT.

> I'd assume you'd want to set up three guests kubic-kubadm-[1-3] is
that right?

Exactly.

> I'd further assume that your root issue is that guests get either the
same or no dhcp IP is that correct?

Nope. The guests are all getting the correct designated IPs, but `net-
dhcp-leases` is incomplete.

I've added the content of `/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/virbr2.status` and
`/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/kubic-dev-net.hostsfile`. Is there another
`host dnsmasq files` that would be of any help?

Well, I'm not that deep into libvirt and dnsmasq, but even creating the
guests sequentially, `/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/virbr2.status` only
contains one entry. The actual cloning is done by
https://github.com/dmacvicar/terraform-provider-libvirt. Is there
anything I can ask the devs over there?

> I'd ask you to:
> - check for duplicate client-id's please

I'm still looking for a way to get that info. Interestingly,
`/var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/virbr2.status` is incomplete even after
starting the clones sequentially.

> - is the output complete "later"?

No.

> - do the other guests get an IP at all (check via virsh console)?

I'm getting an error here:

sudo virsh console kubic-kubadm-0
Connected to domain kubic-kubadm-0
Escape character is ^]
error: internal error: cannot find character device

> - outline the guest network setup (how is there dhcp call configured)

Would adding the `kubic-dev-net.conf` help here? In general, I haven't
configured anything special, except for specifying "nat".

> - help to clarify more of your case as asked above while reading through logs
> I assume I need to sort out more details with you to be of any help :-)

I'd be glad, if I could help you here. Please feel free to ask for more
info.

[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)

2018-08-29 Thread pHeLiOn
Followed helpful link from @brad-figg (Comment 85 -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed) to enable -proposed.

Link also explains how to enable -proposed but only update selected
packages from it (i.e just the kernel from 4.15.0-33 to 4.15.0-34)

Re-tested 4.15.0-33 to check that Suspend still caused system to seize
up and require a forced shutdown & then tested 4.15.0-34 where Suspend
and Hibernate both work without issue.

Tested on HP Pavilion with Intel Pentium N3540 (Kubuntu 18.04 amd64)

@cmeerw - thanks for updating the tag to verification-done-bionic - much
appreciated

[Bug 1788499] Re: xen crashes on system resume

2018-08-29 Thread Stefan Bader
@Andreas, well the 4.15.0-32 kernel was the security update to handle
Foreshadow/L1TF. To mitigate that CPU bug there had been substantial
changes to how non-present pages are represented in the page tables. For
suspend/resume many parts have to play together. With Xen, there is the
hypervisor which is a kernel on its own (and I would guess it also hooks
into some BIOS functions visible to guests). The hypervisor loads and
runs the kernel for the dom0 guest. This is the linux kernel and dom0 is
a paravirtualized guest with special privileges.

So bottom line, its really hard to figure out what goes wrong.
Especially without any visual clue. I assume there is a triple fault or
the like (which causes the reboot) when trying to bring the virtual CPUs
of dom0 back. So the screen is still blanked and I do not think any of
the peripheral devices have been re-activated, yet.

One step to verify that it is indeed the change from 4.15.0-31 to
4.15.0-32 would be to select the older kernel at boot via grub. If -31
works but -32 not then research can likely be concentrated on upstream
hypervisor changes which mention acessing page table entries of guests.

[Bug 1789577] [NEW] An Unresponsive Window Freezes the Whole Desktop

2018-08-29 Thread bananenkasper
Public bug reported:

When debugging UI Applications, this application becomes naturally
unresponsive when reaching an execution breakpoint. As a consequence, I
see the "Force Quit or Wait" dialog, which freezes the whole desktop. I
have no idea why that is, but it is super annoying.

And this is of course not only the case when debugging, but happens as well for
a "normal" application freeze. Why does a frozen application should immediately
require my attention, no matter what else I am doing? Why does this require my
whole desktop to freeze and wait for my input?
Sometimes I just notice a desktop freeze and dont know whats going on until I
find this stupid "Quit or Wait" dialog. Super annoying.
Please make this window not freeze everything else, nothing is so important
that the whole desktop should freeze to force input.

[Bug 1762940] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 d-i install screen becomes blurry on Huawei server in EFI boot mode

2018-08-29 Thread Zhanglei Mao
In case 18.04.1 server and destop iso use same kernel of v4.15.0-29 and
the GUI works fine on destop, so the kernel should not be blamed.

In 18.04.1 server installation, if I kill bterm process of below:
/usr/bin/bterm -f /lib/unifont.bgf -l C.UTF-i /lib/debian-installer/menu

Some blur picture would be gone. Please see attach screen shot.

[Bug 1789570] Re: debsums runs concurrently with unattended-upgrades which leads to false positives

2018-08-29 Thread Axel Beckert
Thanks for the bug report and feature idea/suggestion!

Not yet sure if that option should be really added to debsums (the
program), or be default inside the cron job(s) itself.

Note to myself: I see there's a lot of code duplication in the cron
jobs. (Never really looked at them since I took over that package.)
Might be an idea to clean up and deduplicate them a little bit. This
would also make it easier to add such a feature to the cron job (in case
me or the Debian Perl Team decides that that's the proper place to
implement this).

[Bug 1722478] Re: Two-finger scrolling no longer works after resuming from suspend

2018-08-29 Thread Juan Navarro
@kaihengfeng I can confirm that commenting out that line does indeed
solve the problem.

$ cat /etc/default/grub
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`

Which means that, whatever does the module 'i2c_i801' to cause suspend

of making the two-finger scrolling work on the Lenovo Thinkpad series

[Bug 1789581] [NEW] ubuntu_ecryptfs test hang on Cosmic

2018-08-29 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

The test will hang with:
tests/run_one.sh -K -t lp-994247.sh -b 100 -D /mnt/image -l /mnt/lower -u
/mnt/upper -f ext2

With 100% reproducible rate.

It looks like this is related to a package upgrade, not the kernel
itself:

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  fontconfig-config fonts-dejavu-core libcairo2 libfontconfig1 libipt1
libpixman-1-0 libxcb-render0 libxcb-shm0 libxrender1 python-cairo
  python3-cairo
The following packages will be upgraded:
  bzip2 curl dpkg gdb gdbserver gir1.2-glib-2.0 grep init init-system-helpers
iproute2 libbz2-1.0 libc-bin libc-dev-bin libc6 libc6-dbg
  libc6-dev libc6-dev-i386 libc6-dev-x32 libc6-i386 libc6-x32 libcurl3-gnutls
libcurl4 libdb5.3 libgirepository-1.0-1 libglib2.0-data
  liblxc-common liblxc1 libnss-systemd libpam-systemd libssl1.1 libsystemd0
libudev1 libuv1 libx11-6 libx11-data libxml2 locales
  multiarch-support openssl python-apt-common python-gi python3-apt
python3-debian python3-distupgrade python3-gi python3-twisted
  python3-twisted-bin systemd systemd-sysv ubuntu-release-upgrader-core udev
unattended-upgrades

The hang issue happens after a dist-upgrade with -proposed enabled,
packages above is the upgrade candidate.

Steps:
 1. Deploy a node with Cosmic
 2. Run the following commands:
sudo apt-get install git python-minimal gdb -y
git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest-client-tests -b
master-next
git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest
rm -fr autotest/client/tests
ln -sf ~/autotest-client-tests autotest/client/tests
AUTOTEST_PATH=/home/ubuntu/autotest sudo -E autotest/client/autotest-local
--verbose autotest/client/tests/ubuntu_ecryptfs/control
 3. Enable -proposed, run dist-upgrade and reboot
 4. Repeat step 2.

The first round will pass without any problem, but the test will hang
with step 4.

Which package is causing this issue is still unknown.

[Bug 1788841] Re: incomplete output of `virsh net-dhcp-leases`

2018-08-29 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
I think you are good on the files of dnsmasq, I missed that those are the
complete files indeed.
I beg your pardon for doing too much things at once.

Thanks for the upstream issue, I subscribed there to keep on track.

But there I can see right what I assumed:
kubic-kvm git:(kubic-kvm) ✗ cat /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/virbr2.status
[
  {
"ip-address": "10.17.3.1",
"mac-address": "02:f7:b7:f1:f8:ac",
"hostname": "kubic-kubadm-1",
"client-id": "ff:00:3a:4f:e1:00:01:00:01:23:11:25:f0:52:54:00:3a:4f:e1",
"expiry-time": 1535108104
  }
]

A "normal" file like that with three IPs would look like:
$ cat /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/virbr0.status
[
  {
"ip-address": "192.168.122.219",
"mac-address": "52:54:00:b2:ae:fb",
"hostname": "c-nested-kvm-4",
"client-id": "ff:b5:5e:67:ff:00:02:00:00:ab:11:c6:ad:76:18:90:c7:81:55",
"expiry-time": 1535535182
  },
  {
"ip-address": "192.168.122.29",
"mac-address": "52:54:00:7a:a2:2c",
"hostname": "ubuntu",
"client-id": "ff:b5:5e:67:ff:00:02:00:00:ab:11:80:9a:8b:2c:bb:a0:3c:4f",
"expiry-time": 1535535717
  },
  {
"ip-address": "192.168.122.115",
"mac-address": "52:54:00:84:73:30",
"hostname": "ubuntu",
"client-id": "ff:b5:5e:67:ff:00:02:00:00:ab:11:c9:39:1d:b7:27:3a:78:72",
"expiry-time": 1535536174
  }
]

That again points to client-id (or similar) as the potential source.

For the virsh console issue, that must be with the way terraform sets up the
guests.
Can't help with that atm - you might look at the following and check
console/pty setup:
 $ virsh dumpxml
I'd expect something like:

But overall this isn't the issue of this bug, and since they get IP and you can
log in you are fine. The "virsh console" suggestion was only in case you could
not log in.

About the network config for a start the following should do the trick:
  $ virsh net-dumpxml kubic-dev-net
To get insight how terraform has set this up in libvirt.

But given the Data so far it points more and more to client-id.
Although to admit, I'd have expected them all to get the same IP in this case.
Never the less, having only one entry in the .status file indicates something
is wrong.
This is based on
https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.network.html
The Client-ID is based on:
- a prefix ff:56:50:4d:98:00:02:00:00:
- vendor systemd ab:11
- machine-id

So if machine ID is not unique, we have a problem - it should be (for more
reasons than dhcp).
See: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/machine-id.html#

You can check it like this:
$ cat /etc/machine-id

That should be different in each of your guests - is it different?

Since networkd can be configured to use other entries as client-id it might
also be worth to check:
$ grep -Hn ClientIdentifier /*/systemd/network/*

In general it can't hurt to show the guests POV of network configuration.
Output of:
$ networkctl status; networkctl
And maybe tar all of "/*/systemd/network/*" up and attach it here.

[Bug 1789589] [NEW] USB-SATA resets when UAS is used

2018-08-29 Thread Michael Stockenhuber
Public bug reported:

Dear developers,
I have a Icybox 4 HDD enclosure with a JMicrom JMS567 SATA to USB converter.
When the device is under load and more than 1 hardrive is acessed, the USB
enclosure frequently restarts. This leaves often a corrup filesystem. I tried
to switch off UAS by creating a file in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_uas.conf with
the following content:
options usb-storage quirks=152d:0567:u
This disables UAS, and I did not exerinecs restarts of the box. But of course
thios laves only USB speeds on the USB3 connector, which is quite slow.
I think this suggest this is a kernel bug and not a hardware issues.
I aasume the problem is in the linux-image-4.15.0-33-generic package.
Similar has been reported:
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg157550.html
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Michael

[Bug 1788841] Re: incomplete output of `virsh net-dhcp-leases`

2018-08-29 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Ok, then this is the issue.
I'll mark the libvirt task invalid.

When the file is empty on boot it will be generated.
So the problem must be that someone booted the image before making it a golden
image.

Many people try to do that to do modifications to the image and then try
to clean up and make it pristine again. But my personal experience and
recommendation really is - an image is never allowed to instantiate
before cloning.

Customization should be done via cloud-init [1] which has many ways to
provide meta-data and can do all you want right on initialization as
needed.

[Bug 1788904] Re: Blanket Feature Freeze Exception: Lubuntu's LXQt Transition

2018-08-29 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
I would be reluctant to approve a blanket FFe for this purpose, even for
a non-LTS. We had some bad experiences in the past with blanket FFe's.
What I would be willing to consider is a wider-range FFe for a selected
set of features (which should be more or less similar). Would that be
good enough?

If yes, we would need this bug to be updated with the list and details of the
features (those that are breaking FF) that are planned to still land before
release. Build logs are currently not required of course (since the features
are probably still in the works), but an explanation for each of what packages
will be updated, a quick look at potential regressions that *in theory* could
get introduced by each and maybe a quick overview of the current progress. All
this doesn't have to be too detailed.
This way the release team will know that there is a well defined plan of attack
and what are the risks of all this not getting ready in time.

Also, do I understand correctly that these are *needed* for Lubuntu to
actually be in releasable-state?

[Bug 1774857] Re: sort doesn't sort and uniq loses data for many non-Latin scripts on UTF-8 locales

2018-08-29 Thread Miikka-Markus Alhonen
One user on debbugs.gnu.org reported that the problem is more likely
related to the locale / glibc than coreutils, and that it occurs on
Ubuntu 18.04 but not Fedora 28, in case that helps any. He thought it
might have already been fixed in glibc, since Fedora tends to be more up
to date than Ubuntu.

** Also affects: glibc (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1752411] Re: bind9-host, avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hang forever causes network connections to get stuck

2018-08-29 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
@Erich - infinite hangs are usually due to the kernel somewhere, while
suggesting dig was a good idea just to try I wonder if we would have to
find what "host" actually hangs on to be sure that "dig" in turn will
not some day block on just the same.

Can one of you affected when the "host" command hangs check if it is spinning
in userspace or if it is a kernel wchan?
$ cat /proc//wchan
and
$ perf top -p
$ strace -rtf -p
should help to get an idea what it is blocking on.

@Trent - you said you started on strace already, maybe you can provide the full
logs here?
Also was it spinning in strace (on the same things) or just waiting?

[Bug 1789627] [NEW] systemd-resolved failing in cosmic

2018-08-29 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

Hi,
a few hours ago I realized that some of my containers have no working dns
resolution anymore.
Usually I'd think I broke something in my host network, but I was suspicious s
it hit me on my laptop and on a server at about the same time.

After a while I found that in those containers I have:
systemd-resolve --status
Failed to get global data: Failed to activate service
'org.freedesktop.resolve1': timed out (service_start_timeout=25000ms)

Later I found two more things leading me to some assumptions:
1. I had no resolv.conf so the service seems to have issues
root@c:~# ll /etc/resolv.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 Aug 28 22:18 /etc/resolv.conf ->
../run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf
root@c:~# ll /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf
ls: cannot access '/run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf': No such file or
directory

2. I realized this only affects cosmic container
Bionic container on the same machine is ok (so Host network should be ok I
think).
I didn't realize at first as other cosmic's were ok, but those were the
containers not updated yet and tonight there was a publish of
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/239-7ubuntu4

[Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2018-08-29 Thread Christopher Snowhill
I only thought to mention the PPA to indicate that the bug still occurs
even in fairly bleeding edge Mesa code. I also still think it's either
something wrong with gstreamer-vaapi, or something that gstreamer-vaapi
is doing different from what mpv does for the same exact video. It
should probably be reported to upstream Mesa, just in case it really is
their bug.

[Bug 1789097] Re: winbind does not work after reboot on Mint 19 / Ubuntu 18.04

2018-08-29 Thread Rene Herman
Just to add: the issue's the same and fully constant on an Intel Xeon
E5606 @2,13GHz with 8GiB running Mint 19 Cinnamon 64-bit, and an Intel
Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3GHz withj 4GiB running Mint 19 Xfce 64-bit.

That is... it's not a subtle race and I assume anyone will see this if
installing only "winbind" and not the rest of "samba".

But OTOH picking a random system - here a powerpc box and starting a

Could you please change the bug status to resolved and point me with
some more good manuals?

[Bug 1789627] Re: systemd-resolved failing in cosmic

2018-08-29 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
I got a report of 239-7ubuntu4 that Metal isn't affected and works being
upgraded.

Knowing that I fetched a cosmic VM which as of the current image starts
with 239-7ubuntu4 as well and works fine.

Free was so kind to double check if it is me and spawned a cosmic
container as well on his system.

I have seen that there is a new systemd in cosmic-proposed.
I tested upgrading the working bionic right through onto 239-7ubuntu5 but it
fails with the same errors.

Updating the bug title/description to break in containers only as it
seems.

** Summary changed:

- systemd-resolved failing in cosmic
+ systemd-resolved of systemd 239 is failing in cosmic containers

[Bug 1762084] Re: Touchpad right-click is not working

2018-08-29 Thread Enrique Sáez
Same problem as @eyallior and @fxedel: physical right button of touchpad
doesn't work. In my case tapping right corner doesn't work neither.

My laptop: Toshiba Satellite P50-B-11L. Upgraded from 16.04
Touchpad buttons are place under the touchpad itself.

I've tried gnome tweaks solution and @pemasu link, which I believe it
does the same as tweaks, and none of them worked.

Still a bug somewhere, not just config set up. Any clue?

Thanks

The result of the Test Free did is here as well, and now I wonder what I did.
It is working for him just fine ... ?

Rectification: tapping does work but in a very small area. It needs a
strong tap to work
