Re: [Bug 1127469] Re: error when uninstalled "Reactivate HP LaserJet 1018/1020 after reloading paper" in ubuntu software center

2018-08-11 Thread Nichlas
I'm sorry. While I still have the printer it's not in use any more.

I no longer have the VAIO laptop I got the error on. It had many many
issues with running Linux so I completely gave up on it.

[Bug 1728354] Re: ntfs: unsupported reparse point

2018-08-11 Thread Jean-Pierre
> ...something file C:\Program Files\internet explorer\xxx.dat is
> bigger than 64k... oper_save.c###. xxx.dat is 65k... and more
> and more like that...

This does not look like a reparse point error.

> but BACKUP program can't save all files in NTFS partitions.

To backup a Windows system partition you should use a program which
takes an image of it, rather than extract its files. By extracting
system files you lose several of their attributes (compression, hard
links, short file names, integrity markers, etc.), with some attributes
not translatable to Linux.

> There are have many programs which no need a ntfs-3g that
> can save my NTFS partition!!!

I agree, and using ntfs-3g is not the right way to save a system
partition.

> No need to send you all my errors.log

Some details would however be useful for doing something about the
errors. At least, please post the metadata of a file which could not be
read :

sudo ntfsinfo -fv -F "/Program Files/internet explorer/xxx.dat"
/dev/sdxx

Replace "xxx.dat" by the name of a file which could not be read, and
"sdxx" by the name of the Windows partition.

[Bug 1786591] [NEW] password mode: save greyed out if certificate is not chosen

2018-08-11 Thread Lev Plimak
Public bug reported:

When: adding a new VPN connection under: VPN type "Password"
Problem: the "Save" button remains greyed out unless a "CA Certificate" is
chosen.
Expected solution: a way to disable the "CA Certificate" setting.

Comments:

My VPN provider (TU Darmstadt) does not require a certificate, only a
name/password pair. On the corresponding Network Manager tab, there is
no way to disable the CA Certificate. The "Save" button remains grayed
out unless some "CA Certificate" is chosen.

As a test, I attempted to add a certificate from another connection. The
button was then accessible, but the connection could not be established.

[Bug 1785475] Re: Scrolling in files gives display isues

2018-08-11 Thread Benno Schulenberg
The bug *seemingly* affects three people: the reporter (you), one person
who was clearly a fake, and one other person "confirmed" it by clicking
that he/she is affected too. But an anonymous person whom I can't ask
questions doesn't count as confirmation for me. And most likely that
anonymous person is a sockpuppet too, because confirming a report so
soon after it was filed...

As I said: run 'stty size' on your terminal, and paste the output.

When setting LANG=C, I still cannot reproduce the effect that you see.

What did you change LANG into to "fix" the problem?

So... in fact there is no problem? It was just an anomaly in your
setup, as I suspected?

You saw the effect on new installs of Ubuntu 18.04 server. Can you make
a fresh install (on a random, free partition) and take note of the
choices that you make? So that I stand a chance of reproducing your
environment.

taka k,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some
time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Firefox since

[Bug 1786090] Re: Installation fails on HP T610 Plus Thin Client internal flash (EFI)

2018-08-11 Thread Phil Pemberton
Hi Steve, thanks for the response.

I managed to get this working by coldbooting the machine, then ran:

sudo update-grub # this fixes the missing GRUB config

Next I installed Vim -- APT figured out that shim-signed hadn't been
configured, and retried. This time it succeeded!

The machine came with Windows 7 Embedded, and I warm-booted into the installer
(reboot from Windows, select "boot from USB stick" in the BIOS boot menu). I
suspect the warm-booting may be a factor.

Regardless, I will probably be doing a reinstall on this machine anyway
and will update the ticket if I find out anything further.

On locking the screen with XScreenSaver I noticed that a popup window

reporting this against XScreenSaver it seems that the X-Server does not
provide the ability to uniquely claim the top drawing area in a way that
all other applications can't draw on top of it anymore to counter such
issues.

But similar to bug #69298 comment #1 it could also become an issue if
applications begin to uniquely claim the top drawing area in case this
is unwanted by the user (for example a fullscreen game could do this and
more or less unintentionally preventing the user to add his custom
overlays). Eventually this needs also to be bind on higher permissions
so that this can be configured.

[Bug 1062534]

2018-08-11 Thread Pavel Řezníček
Appended two patches from Alessandro Pignotti originally posted on the
Ubuntu Bugzilla. They may or may not still be valid.

According to Alessandro's words, "They should be considered hacks to
make the problem more clear."

Trying to attract some attention to this bug because I face it on a
regular basis playing Lord of the Rings Online on Wine still after 5
years a patch has been proposed.

I'm a bit experienced in programming but only in Pascal and Python so
I'm trying to find someone more experienced who could possibly fix it.
If nobody responds, maybe I'll try to fix it myself…

[Bug 1786602] [NEW] Lubuntu 18.04 "Lubuntu Qt session" crashes the system

2018-08-11 Thread Histesh Shah
Public bug reported:

Immediately after choosing "Lubuntu Qt" session at login time, a small window
appears with the message:
unable to launch "/usr/bin/startlxqt" as session --- "/usr/bin/startlxqt" not
found; falling back to default session.

There's an "Okay" button. After pressing the button, the system crashes.

In /usr/share/xsessions, there are three files:
Lubuntu.desktop openbox.desktop QLubuntu.desktop

The content of QLubuntu.desktop are:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Lubuntu Qt session
Comment=A specific Lubuntu session using Qt
Exec=/usr/bin/startlxqt
Type=Application

I suggest that QLubuntu.desktop be removed from future point releases of
Lubuntu 18.04, or earlier if possible, so that users cannot login into
the session it appears to provide.

[Bug 801616] Re: Form history sometimes remembers credit card details

2018-08-11 Thread Paul White
Christopher,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug in 2011 and
there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Do you still see this problem in the currently supported releases of
Ubuntu and Firefox? Please let us know if you do.

If we do not hear from you the bug report will close itself in
approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 793477] Re: Right click in upper right corner of FF window brings up broken menu

2018-08-11 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some
time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Firefox since
that time. Your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates.

It would help us a lot if you could test on a currently supported Ubuntu
version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the
updated logs by running only once in a terminal:

apport-collect 793477

and add any additional information that you think relevant.
Alternatively, please confirm that this is no longer a problem and that
we can close the report. If we do not hear from you the bug report will
close itself in approximately two months time.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)

2018-08-11 Thread hariprasad
Hello, my Ubuntu Linux was 8-9 months out of order v. 17.10, and later
18.04. I did many installations and tests, changed SSD M.2 four times
(recognized reclamation), changed the whole NUC7i7BNH (recognized
reclamation). Log Issue on Intel. Finally I installed Fedora 28. and
NVME M.2 SSD is in good condition and work properly. I used default LVM
partition format. Ubuntu during installation on VLN filed immediatelly
during installation, when updates were applied. The problem is bounded
specially with Ubuntu. I doesn't check, which driver use Fedora and
Ubuntu, Fedora kernel is '4.17.12-200.fc28.x86_64 #1 x86_64 GNU/Linux',
so I cannot distill if it should be in driver or is system settings. But
finally, i can say, that my reclamations were unauthorized. Sadly, in
that case, the easiest workaround for me is to use different Linux.

[Bug 1786607] [NEW] gnome-keyring caches PGP password eternally

2018-08-11 Thread Larry Tate
Public bug reported:

I've been using the program `Pass` to manage my passwords, which uses a
PGP key that I created for this purpose. I began noticing that after my
first use of the passphrase gnome-keyring would cache the passphrase and
no longer request it. This is a security issue as anyone with access to
my machine can gain access to all of my passwords.

I assumed the settings could be tweaked, so I used `dconf-editor` to
edit the `gpg-cache-method` file to use `timeout` instead of the default
setting. I also changed the `gpg-cache-ttl` to 1 second from the
default, which was 300 I believe. I then restarted the keyring with `$
gnome-keyring-daemon -r`.

This successfully reset the keyring and I was prompted for my password.
However, it only worked once. After entering the password, gnome-keyring
cached my password and this survives logging out or restarting the
computer.

[Bug 1786610] [NEW] coudy / murky screens; not able to find how to correct this online via searchiing forums

Public bug reported:

I have been researching and trying to fix this for months. I started on
16-04LTS but now am trying out 18-04LTS. No success with either version
so I am filing a bug report. Firefox is chaing rrapidly. At some point
people started observing this problme. Some people have been able to
fix this problem on their own, I have not.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: firefox 61.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18
Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64
AdditionalInfo:
I am certain this problem is a bug and not a new feature.
This problem has existed since at least 16-04LTS. Since many others were
reporting same I did not until now. I had hoped it was fixed in this new
release.
Have researched forums and found this to be a reoccuring problem, but not
able to find FIX/workaround for my version of Firerfox. It seems Firefox
configuration methods change faster than than the online how to I am finding.
Yes I have lookied in the Ubutun formus too.

[Bug 1786608] [NEW] gio.settings errors after lockscreen

2018-08-11 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

This is https://github.com/paradoxxxzero/gnome-shell-system-monitor-
applet/issues/449.

[Impact]
When the gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor is enabled, after the user's
session is locked then unlocked, then gnome-shell starts profusely logging
errors of this sort:

Aug 09 17:34:44 localhost org.gnome.Shell.desktop[16993]: == Stack trace for
context 0x556916f3c320 ==

Aug 09 17:34:45 localhost gnome-shell[16993]: Object Gio.Settings
(0x55692427b520), has been already deallocated - impossible to access to it.
This might be caused by the fact that the object has been destroyed from C code
using something such as destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs

This will quickly fill the logs to the limits of what journald allows
(4G here) and make observing the log difficult in general (since the log
entries come in at the frequency of enabled monitors of the extension).

[Test Case]

1. apt-get install gnome-shell-extension-system-monitor
2. enable the extension in gnome-tweaks
3. lock the screen, wait a few seconds, then log back in
4. observe in journalctl --follow the stack traces for the extension. If you
disable the extension, the logging stops

When testing the fix, it is important that after upgrading to the new
version, you logout of your session then back in. Disabling/enabling the
extension does not seem to be enough.

[Regression Potential]

Regression potential is considered low since the patch simply moves the
initialization code into the enable() function (gnome-shell appears to
disable the extension on lock, and enable on unlock).

[Bug 1785319] Re: All kinds of problems on wake from lid close 18.04

2018-08-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tom, in order to allow additional upstream mainline kernel developers to
examine the issue, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the
latest mainline kernel? Please keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is in a folder at the very top of the page (not the daily
folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the mainline kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is not reproducible in the mainline
kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a
black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the Bug
Description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the issue is reproducible with the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

In addition, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to
test the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Lastly, it is most helpful that after testing of the latest mainline
kernel is complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1761573] Re: Network not configured on bionic

I'm also running into this issue..

using today's https://cloud-
images.ubuntu.com/daily/server/bionic/current/bionic-server-cloudimg-
amd64.img - converted into vmdk and using vmxnet3 or e1000 or e1000e
adapters. In any constellation it does not initialize any interfaces or
attempts any DHCP requests.

Looking at the contents of the image, it seems that both systemd-
networkd and netplan are without any configuration at all.

Any pointers?

[Bug 1784998] Re: After a while touchpad doesn't work

2018-08-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
fokedFromTheLife, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Please answer all of the following:

1) Regarding your Bug Description comment:
>"after a while..."

1a) Could you please define specifically how long a while is? Seconds, minutes,
hours, etc.?
1b) Could you please advise to after a while from when? Boot up, login, opening
a program, etc.?

2) Is this issue something that started to happen after an update? If
so, which and when precisely?

3) Regarding the non-default kernel parameters:
nouveau.modeset=0 tpm_tis.interrupts=0 acpi_osi=Linux
i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 idle=nomwait

If you remove these, is the issue still reproducible?

2) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
for this via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to
