[Bug 1759328] Re: plasmashell crash when changing deskop containment from 'folder view' to 'desktop'

2018-03-31 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
Tried debugging this with upstream plasma devels a few days ago, and
even they were stumped and their debugging suggestions did not diagnose
the cause.

[Bug 1760264] Re: New version of intel-microcode freezes computer

2018-03-31 Thread QkiZ
After intel-microcode package install Linux image is generated with new
microcode so that's why your previous Linux image contains precious
microcode. I marked intel-microcode as held to skip updating this
package, till it will be fixed.

[Bug 1760271] [NEW] Scan does not operate on my HP multifunction laser

2018-03-31 Thread winux
Public bug reported:

Hi

I just tried this scan/printer "Laser Jet Pro MFP M125nw" on Ub 18.04 today's
update
- it works for printing (so the link is correct)
- but not for scanning, here is the error message
http://i66.tinypic.com/newd50.png
it says machine not detected, check your connection, despite it just worked for
printing ??

For your info it worked perfectly with 16.04

I did the same than at that time
hp-setup
sudo apt install hplip
sudo apt install hplip-gui
I installed it thru RJ45
I guess it's a release bug, but up to you to decide/ confirm

A few infos (the ones I know how to proceed)

Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit
Dell XPS 13 9360
Kernel: linux-signed-image-4.13.0-37-generic
Other kernels with same behaviour: all since

Last kernel to work: linux-signed-image-4.13.0-25-generic

Please let me know all you need.

cat /proc/version_signature

This is useless, as I cannot boot with the bugged kernels, thus it returns the
value of the current kernel I can boot with and which does not have the bug.

[Bug 1759791] Re: NFS + sec=krb5 is broken

2018-03-31 Thread mtemp
Thanks for the kernel!
Unfortunately I am off the grid until April 9, but I hope a colleague of mine
will test it for me.

One small remark: I might have mixed up the terms "stable kernel" and "mainline
kernel". Sry for that!
The mentioned bug first occurred in the *stable* Kernel kernel 4.15.4
Additionally, according to
https://marc.info/?l=linux-netdev&m=152225946901789&w=2 the commit only
triggered the bug, but the problem has existed for 8 years.

[Bug 1760282] [NEW] Cryptsetup does not allow storage-drive encryption, it has unfullfilled dependencies

2018-03-31 Thread Foehn
Public bug reported:

After installing cryptsetup it was not possible to encrypt an usb-stick
or to open an encrypted usb-stick. In case of encryption (ext4) with
e.g. "gnome-disks" it showed the error:

The function "bd_crypto_luks_open_blob" called, but not implemented!

A solution for this problem was given in

https://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=166920

The installation of the library

sudo apt-get install libblockdev-crypto2

was the solution. This library is not part of required dependencies of
cryptsetup.

[Bug 1760272] Re: Quickly freezes XPS 13 at boot

2018-03-31 Thread Yannick
** Description changed:

  Similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1745282.

  Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit
  Dell XPS 13 9360
  Kernel: linux-signed-image-4.13.0-37-generic
Other kernels with same behaviour: all since
linux-signed-image-4.13.0-31-generic
  Last kernel to work: linux-signed-image-4.13.0-25-generic

+
+ NOTE: the inability to upgrade to newer kernels represents at least an
annoyance, as new features won't be available, and may present (severe)
security issues that are fixed in newer releases.
+ NOTE: afaik, this kernel has no Meltdown and Spectre mitigation...
+
+
Please let me know all you need.
+
+ Many thanks.
+

  cat /proc/version_signature
  ---
This is useless, as I cannot boot with the bugged kernels, thus it returns
the value of the current kernel I can boot with and which does not have the bug.

[Bug 1760185] Re: Qt5 Wayland Client Dev Package missing

This bug was fixed in the package qtwayland-opensource-src -
5.9.4-0ubuntu2

---
qtwayland-opensource-src (5.9.4-0ubuntu2) bionic; urgency=medium

  * Cherry-pick commit from the VCS Git repository which generates
libqt5waylandclient5-dev (LP: #1760185).

[ Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer ]
  * Generate libqt5waylandclient5-dev. The files where previously generated
and removed before packaging because they where not stable, but now a part
of them have become stable so it's time to ship them.
Also make the package recommend qtwayland5-dev-tools which provides the
tools necessary to generate C++ interfaces form the XML definitions.
Thanks Andreas Cord-Landwehr for the bug report! (Closes: #893387).

Turned up the importance for this bug. For a user, a 75-second wait time
when they are used to 0-10 would be an indication there is a serious bug
and the software (Xubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, and anything else yet
unidentified) does not run on their system.

[Bug 1758946] Re: virtualbox-guest-utils update caused Synaptic to stop working

2018-03-31 Thread LocutusOfBorg via ubuntu-bugs
Sorry but if that line has *never* been "true".

If it is that way (I don't want to say otherwise, because I can't check
mint), this is a change that comes from mint developers, something I'm
really not interested at all, unless they come to me asking to
integrate/fix something.

Feel free to complain to them, asking why they diverged from my
packaging without sending bug reports or complains.

for sure, my upload increased the version, so maybe you got your package
upgraded because of this

In any case nothing I can fix without rationale for the change or a bug
report, closing.

Re: [Bug 1042069] Re: Jumpy Mouse Cursor using Thinkpad X230 Touchpad

2018-03-31 Thread Robert Orzanna
Cannot test right now on Ubuntu because I'm on Fedora 27 right now but
there I didn't have to apply any tweaks. The TouchPad is just working fine.
Maybe that's due to different kernel versions?

[Bug 1758946] Re: virtualbox-guest-utils update caused Synaptic to stop working

2018-03-31 Thread Karlchen
Hello, LocutusOfBorg.

I am absolutely certain that you are right in telling that line #8 of file
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/98vboxadd-xclient has never read
true # "VBoxClient: the VirtualBox kernel service is not running.
on Ubuntu 16.04.

Yet, I am absolutely certain, too, that I have checked the file on my Linux
Mint 18.1 while version 5.0.40-dfsg-0ubuntu1.16.04.2 was still on the disk and
right before it got uninstalled. And the line read as I have quoted.
Plus, I had not tinkered around with any file, installed as part of
virtualbox-guest.

So you may be right that this change may have been applied by the Linux
Mint makers. Guess they will have had a reason.

Why?
On my Mint 18.1 xfce, by now, the 3 virtualbox-guest packages version
5.1.34-dfsg-0ubuntu1.16.04.2 are present, i.e. they have been installed via
Synaptic; and the machine seems to work correctly so far. But 60 min. uptime is
not really very long.
It works, because I have reverted line #8 to what I had found in file
98vboxadd-xclient of the previous version.

Seems a bit as if the "early" notify-send invocation may be what
triggers some misbehaviour on Mint 18.x. (The same notify-send still
works without issues on Mint 17.x by the way.)

I do understand that this looks like a Linux Mint internal issue and
that you are not the person who has got to clear it up.

Cheers,
Karl

[Bug 159356] Re: System freeze on high memory usage

2018-03-31 Thread Nandakumar Edamana
I noticed this same issue on Ubuntu 17.10. I didn't find swapping to be
this annoying until recently. May be I've switched to swap file instead
of partition? But I think it existed even before I did the switched.
However, I had never (or at least this frequently) noticed freeze
conditions due to swapping with the previous versions. My swappiness is
the default, 60, and it should never cause such a condition in a perfect
world, I think.

[Bug 1758107] Re: View > Toolbars is Missing "Bookmarks Toolbar"

2018-03-31 Thread thavid
Affected user here as well (Ubuntu 16.04 x86_64, all updates installed
as of writing this comment). Happy to provide any debugging information
needed to get this pesky bug squashed.

One other thing I noticed is that, when on the "Customise" screen, on
the bottom of the window there'll be 3 buttons, specifically "Toolbars",
"Themes" and "Density". Clicking on the toolbars button shows what
appears to be a futile effort to display a list of possible toolbars,
including the bookmarks one. It appears that the whole toolbar thing is
actually broken, but the most obvious symptom is the bookmark toolbar
option.

[Bug 1760299] [NEW] partitionmanager as root but no permission to create a mount folder

2018-03-31 Thread trotosa
Public bug reported:

Excuse me for my english. It's not my native langage.

With kubuntu 18.04 beta1.

I am using partitionmanager with uid 0, gid 0, (verified with
ksysguard).

When I try to change the mounting point, I can only create a new folder with my
user uid.
So The mounting must be in $HOME or /media/$USER.

I don't understand why root couldn't define a mounting point for exemple
/mydisk.

Then, as the process is with root uid, the file /etc/fstab could be
changed but not with the wanted mount point.

I made an other test by changing
/usr/share/applications/org.kde.partitionmanager.desktop and add :
X-KDE-SubstituteUID=true
X-KDE-Username=root

But no change, I am still with my user id when I try to create the
mounting point.

[Bug 1703630] Re: Phoronix Test Suite package is outdated

2018-03-31 Thread michaellarabel
Yes I would appreciate if the phoronix-test-suite package would either
be updated in Debian or deleted... Right now the packages PTS 5.2.1
version is four years out of date and PTS 8.0.0 is coming up for release
in the next two or three months... I've been very frustrated seeing this
package not be updated and would rather it be removed if it's not going
to be updated as users can otherwise just install from source or the
Debian package at http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/

For any Ubuntu packagers, it should be rather trivial upgrading from
5.2.1 to 7.8/8.0 and shouldn't require any real changes to the
packaging.

[Bug 1703630] Re: Phoronix Test Suite package is outdated

2018-03-31 Thread michaellarabel
Also with regards to it being deleted from Debian, I believe it was
because they didn't like that PTS has the ability to install additional
packages (external dependencies) itself. You could add all of the
possible PTS dependencies to the Debian package itself, but then it
would bring in a whole number of dependencies that likely aren't going
to be needed/used, depending upon what test(s) the user wants to run for
benchmarking so for that reason PTS handles them dynamically and calls
APT or the respective distribution's packaging mechanism when it needs a
given dependency for a particular test.

[Bug 1760308] [NEW] Unicode input not working on Bionic with CTRL-SHIFT-U

2018-03-31 Thread Daniel P. Clark
Public bug reported:

I need to enter Unicode with Unicode escape codes and the Ubuntu
prescribed way is to use CTRL-SHIFT-U and then enter some numbers to
input. This doesn't do anything in the Ubuntu Bionic beta.

Potentially related the ALT-TAB window switching is delayed in
recognizing the occurrence of the keys being pressed such that I have to
hold ALT-TAB instead of quickly hitting both simultaneously.

This is from a system that was upgraded from a previous Ubuntu version
without any issues.

[Bug 1760304] Re: randomly crashed after log in to kde

2018-03-31 Thread Rik Mills via ubuntu-bugs
I note that you have installed:

python3-dbus.mainloop.pyqt5 5.9.2+dfsg-1+16.04+xenial+build14 [origin:
unknown]

which is a KDE Neon package.

Using KDE Neon repositories on Kubuntu, or using Kubuntu packages on
Neon is not supported, and is likely to cause errors such as this, so I
am marking this bug as invalid.

[Bug 1754836] Re: Xubuntu: ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on org.bluez:/org/bluez: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Failed to activate service 'org.bluez': time

2018-03-31 Thread Alistair Buxton
Since this only happens on first login, I ran a diff on the full home
directory before/after login:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SJ2nNx7WfP/

I don't see anything obvious in there. The pulse cookie and a blueman
settings file (empty) were created. The rest seems to be Thunar/desktop
defaults and example files.

[Bug 1760310] [NEW] pastebinit crashed with UnicodeDecodeError in decode(): 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xad in position 15319: invalid start byte

2018-03-31 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Attempt to paste non-unicode data with a pipe:

cat ~/.config/pulse/cookie | pastebinit

Result:

Python throwsa Unicode error.

Expected result:

It should work, as it does if you run:

pastebinit ~/.config/pulse/cookie

Impact:

If a program outputs even one invalid ascii/unicode character, the paste
will fail. This is a common problem when porting python 2 apps to python
3.
