[Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings
On Zesty (still without the pidfile in the service) it seems to work fine (Version 1:1.3.2-1). Test: 2x zesty KVM guests sudo apt-get install keepalived Set up as above, but with ens3 (virtual ethenet device). I think the name of backup/master conf names are interchanged in the example above, but it works fine. 0) pre restart Process: 2173 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/keepalived $DAEMON_ARGS Main PID: 2183 (keepalived) ├─2183 /usr/sbin/keepalived ├─2184 /usr/sbin/keepalived └─2185 /usr/sbin/keepalived 1) First restart Process: 2393 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/keepalived $DAEMON_ARGS Main PID: 2404 (keepalived) ├─2404 /usr/sbin/keepalived ├─2408 /usr/sbin/keepalived └─2409 /usr/sbin/keepalived I see the backup server properly detect, transtion to take over and back to backup. [Bug 1664663] Re: [Hyper-V] kvp daemon start failure on Zesty
Hi Joe, Using today's ISO - zesty-server-amd64.iso from March 8th, and doing a fresh install, then installing linux-tools-generic and linux-cloud-tools-generic, I see that the KVP daemon starts at the reboot without the previous issue. The tools are running on top of kernel 4.10.0-9. However, now another issue surfaced. A recent KVP daemon patch introduced a KVP_SCRIPT_PATH definition: #define KVP_SCRIPT_PATH “/usr/libexec/hypervkvpd/” LIS KVP implementation has 3 scripts: hv_get_dns_info hv_get_dhcp_info hv_set_ifconfig These scripts are put by default under /usr/sbin, however with the above change, now these must be moved under /usr/libexec/hypervkvpd. Or of course, default to /usr/sbin from the kvp daemon source file if you want to keep the current structure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1664663 Title: [Hyper-V] kvp daemon start failure on Zesty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1664663/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings

Your repro seems so complete I thought I might have missed something. [Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings
Note: I compared the upstream and Debian/Ubuntu Service file. Differences are: 1. Service Name (don't care) 2. After=syslog.target which might be reasonable to pick 3. PIDFile=/var/run/keepalived.pid (which is not bad and we thought would be the fix here, but it seems is not required as my zesty test worked) 4. EnvironmentFile this uses different paths and option variables, transitioning this would be an unwanted conffile change Ubuntu makes no Delta to Debian here, so we should address these there. I might file a bug for 2&3 there later on, but first I'll continue with my a analysis. [Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings
That makes some sort of sense. The action for reload is "Just" a signal to MAINPID ExecReload=/bin/kill -HUP $MAINPID I think the failure is a second -HUP signal before the former reload is fully complete. And on a more complex keepalived setup this might also be a longer time-window to trigger. Yet the service files in Xenial and Zesty are identical, and I'd not know one can wait for a signal to be handled. Might even be a systemd fix in Zesty that now "waits" for such to complete. So lessons learned, I seem to be able to reliably trigger it with a head to head restart: "sudo systemctl restart keepalived; sudo systemctl restart keepalived;" Going to my Zesty env to confirm that there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1644530 Title: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/keepalived/+bug/1644530/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1670652] Re: No way to contain pointer in VM window
Don't get me wrong, I know not containing the pointer is preferable in some cases, what I'm saying is lacking, is an *option* to contain it. The pointer edge gestures in unity8 require "pushing" your pointer against the display edge, this is only possible in a VM if the cursor is confined. [Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings
First check with the head-to-head restart is confirming my former assumption on Zesty it is: 1. not failing 2. taking longer each restart I wanted to go further but a trivial test comparing with this: $ time for i in $(seq 1 200); do sudo systemctl restart keepalived; sudo systemctl status keepalived | egrep 'Main.*exited'; done Failed for the default start limit kicking in. Well, lets start softer and go with reload first. $ time for i in $(seq 1 200); do sudo systemctl reload keepalived; sudo systemctl status keepalived | egrep 'Main.*exited'; done That works fine on both (but also the HUP just forces a reload and the PIDs stay). So this by-design does not fall into the same fault. Ok, so with that lets obey the default start-limit of 5 starts per 10 seconds and compare again. Xenial: $ time for i in $(seq 1 5); do sudo systemctl restart keepalived; sudo systemctl status keepalived | egrep 'Main.*exited'; done Main PID: 8800 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Main PID: 8836 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) real0m0.156s user0m0.008s sys 0m0.000s Note: 2 cases is all we can get, restart #1 works, #2 is too early triggering the issue, #3 cleans up, #4 triggering again, #5 cleaning up again. [Bug 1666059] Re: Main virtualbox window resizes itself 3 or 4 times - then no desktop start
that vboxvideo has been dropped upstream, I also tried an rm on my zesty vm of that file but it didn't change the boot issue. I don't understand your modeset sentence, because actually I don't understand what vboxvideo does (kernel module) what the driver is supposed to do, and what/how that vbox*GL* libs can replace the vboxvideo_drv I mostly do what upstream does here: https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-virtualbox/virtualbox.git/tree/src/VBox/Additions/linux/installer/vboxadd.sh#n223 but there is one difference, installing the guest additions works, the my approach worked in Debian and works in Debian, and worked in Ubuntu before zesty. [Bug 1670390] Re: Desktop applications don't get properly resized when launched in staged mode
(trying to remember) Because I assumed there is never any boolean feedback on a resize operation and so GTK would be correct in assuming resize must always succeed. However I now realize the correct feedback method is in the form of resize events (which, sheepishly, I authored), so yeah GTK can check if the resize succeeded. You're right GTK should be open here too. Even if a tiling/stage WM fails to honour the requested size, the toolkit should be listening for resize events and respond to the fact that it is now tiled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1670390 Title: Desktop applications don't get properly resized when launched in staged mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1670390/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1644530] Re: keepalived fails to restart cleanly due to the wrong systemd settings
What I think is happening in our case: Since no ExecStop= was specified, systemd will send SIGTERM [...] Details: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.kill.html# KillMode is "process" in the service file. That means "If set to process, only the main process itself is killed." So in this case it relies on that being forwarded to the child processes. That takes time. If not waiting for it to be "complete" the following restart will send the next SIGTERM and this eliminates the (already in cleanup) main proccess before it can distribute the TERM to its childs/siblings. This is our error state. In this broken state Main PID: 10600 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Our mode of KillMode=process might have special handling and kill all of them (since there is no main to kill). That is the cleanup, which gets it back to work again. Since the service files in both (X/Z) cases are the same I wonder if there is a systemd change which fixes this by some sort of waiting for the signal to be handled (e.g. waiting for the MainPid to go away on its own). Systemd versions: Xenial: 229-4ubuntu16 Zesty: 232-18ubuntu1 ** Description changed: Because "PIDFile=" directive is missing in the systemd unit file, keepalived sometimes fails to kill all old processes. The old processes remain with old settings and cause unexpected behaviors. The detail of this bug is described in this ticket in upstream: https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/issues/443. The official systemd unit file is available since version 1.2.24 by this commit: https://github.com/acassen/keepalived/commit/635ab69afb44cd8573663e62f292c6bb84b44f15 This includes "PIDFile" directive correctly: PIDFile=/var/run/keepalived.pid We should go the same way. I am using Ubuntu 16.04.1, kernel 4.4.0-45-generic. [Bug 1670506] Re: Tor browser launcher signature verification failed on initial download
Thanks. I hope that fix gets backported to 16.04 LTS. Until then, I have documented the work-around that worked for me in the Ubuntu Answers mentioned above: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/526440 I'll also suggest an upstream change that would prevent this kind of problem (a new signing key being introduced by the Tor Project after the Ubuntu package is released) from happening again: have the torbrowser- launcher download any updates to its signing keys before it attempts the signature verification. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1670506 Title: Tor browser launcher signature verification failed on initial download To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/torbrowser-launcher/+bug/1670506/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1654600] Re: unattended-upgrade-shutdown hangs when /var is a separate filesystem
Hello, I am curious to hear about the context of your tests : my Zesty system with a separated /var does show the problem prior to upgrade to unattended-upgrades-0.93.1ubuntu2 and no longer hangs when the new package is applied. There might be situations that I have not tested where the issue could still exists. Your suggestion to replace /var/run by /var is incorrect : /var/run /unattended-upgrades.lock is placed by the unattended-upgrades script; Looking in /run for a lock file that has been put in /var/run is simply inadequate. While replacing /var/run by /run across the board is a valid proposition, it requires more inspection than simply replacing its occurrences in one script. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1654600 Title: unattended-upgrade-shutdown hangs when /var is a separate filesystem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unattended-upgrades/+bug/1654600/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1663991] Re: Unable to Connect Third HDD via USB Hub
Can someone please explain me the Ubuntu update process? My systems are two kernel updates older now and the bug is still present. Today, it made the system disk unresponsive on my server, damaging its filesystem and dpkg database in the process. I think that such a bug is critical and should be fixed and pushed to updates immediately. Why is Ubuntu always late with fixing serious bugs which e.g. Debian has fixed a long time ago? I really love Ubuntu but it looks like it is time to move over. [Bug 1654600] Re: unattended-upgrade-shutdown hangs when /var is a separate filesystem
Before=shutdown.target reboot.target halt.target network.target local- fs.target should be Before=shutdown.target reboot.target halt.target network.target After=local-fs.target because, AIUI, at shutdown, "Before" means "After" and "After" means "Before". [Bug 1671032] [NEW] missing referenced X11UndefineNone.h file
Public bug reported: The firefox-dev package version 51.0.1+build2-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 contains a /usr/include/firefox/npapi.h file which includes "X11UndefineNone.h". [Bug 1302004] Re: Indicator-datetime doesn't list in-progress events
It might be an idea to create separate bug reports for each condition that still fails to show all events. Another one, if I remember correctly, is multi-day events, I believe it only shows the event on it's start date and it's end date. e.g. event starts Mon and ends Friday, it will not appear in indicator Tue-Thu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1302004 Title: Indicator-datetime doesn't list in-progress events To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1302004/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1644057] Re: Excessive Disconnect unmatched entries from sshd
Is this likely to be fixed with a patch? At the moment my LogWatch reports contain about 700-1000 lines per day in the SSHD "Unmatched Entries" section, which makes it difficult to read/check. I'd rater not edit the LogWatch config files myself if it's going to be patched. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1644057 Title: Excessive Disconnect unmatched entries from sshd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/logwatch/+bug/1644057/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

After a trip through somewhat object oriented code in C (which I don't want to bother you) I can confirm that eventually is is a calloc that gets the structs memory (src/util/viralloc.c:560). Also an indicator - the other struct vars have no initiaizers either. So I think it does not need an explicit initializer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1582990 Title: internal error: End of file from monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1582990/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
