[Bug 1656218] [NEW] QT4 apps fail with symbol lookup error

2017-01-13 Thread Jochen Schroeder
Public bug reported:

Running 16.10 several Qt4 apps fail for me with symbol lookup errors.

Two examples are:
$ kcachegrind
kcachegrind: symbol lookup error: kcachegrind: undefined symbol:
_ZNK12QApplication17isSessionRestoredEv

$ python -m pyqtgraph
Traceback (most recent call last):

ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PyQt4/QtGui.x86_64-linux-gnu.so:

I suspect this applies to many more qt4 packages (and I've found several
similar bugs, e.g. #1534421).

Some googling seems to indicate that this due to a version mismatch?

[Bug 1656042] Re: unity-scopes-api FTBFS with Qt 5.7.1

2017-01-13 Thread James Henstridge
We have changes in lp:unity-scopes-api/devel to work with the new
version of googletest/googlemock that haven't been landed on trunk yet.
So fixing this is probably going to be as simple as building a new
release.

[Bug 1655450] Re: monitors not disconnected after undocking

2017-01-13 Thread Jochen Schroeder
This happened after upgrade to 16.10 I believe (unfortunately I am not
100% sure about this). I can confirm that this is fixed using
4.9.2-040902-generic from mainline kernels.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream

** Description changed:

- I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon (4th gen) and using the Lenovo one-link+ docking
station. The laptop is connected through the docking station to 2 external
monitors when docked. When undocking the laptop, the laptop does not detect
that the monitors have been disconnected (leaving X in a somewhat unworkable
state). Even worse, when undocking with thelid closed (which would previously
have resulted in suspend) the laptop now starts working hard and the fan starts
spinning up (which is particularly bad when forgetting about this and placing
the laptop in a bag). The laptop also becomes very unresponsive to X actions,
e.g. xrandr --query takes a a couple of seconds, switching to the console takes
> 10s.

This seems to be related to the following Fedora bug:
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1392885
which reports almost identical issues. I have not been able to try a new
kernel yet to see if issues are fixed.

[Bug 1656226] [NEW] dnsmasq/systemd-resolve: inconsistent negative caching

2017-01-13 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

Using Juju + LXD to deploy k8s locally, I hit an issue where the
(CNAME->)A record for pypi.python.org was not being resolved from within
the LXD container; it looks like the interaction between dnsmasq and
systemd-resolve was the root cause; bypassing systemd-resolve resolves
the issue.

[Bug 1656227] [NEW] docomscope fails to start UnsatisfiedLinkError: no jInterface

2017-01-13 Thread Martin Weis
Public bug reported:

I get the following error at startup:

dicomscope
starting DICOMscope
please wait...
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no jInterface in
java.library.path
at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1716)

at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:1057)
at main.MainContext.(MainContext.java:58)
at dicomscope.DICOMscope.main(DICOMscope.java:91)

This error is the same for all tested java versions (see at bottom).

file $(which dicomscope)
/usr/bin/dicomscope: symbolic link to `../share/java/DICOMscope.jar'

The deb installs the lib here:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/jni/libjInterface.so

dicomscope can successfully be started like this:
java -Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/jni/ -jar /usr/bin/dicomscope

The related bugreport in Debian states the problem not being in dicomscope, but
binfmt/java package:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=731778

The small program there reveals:
java GetSystemProperty java.library.path
:/home/martin/local/lib:/usr/java/packages/lib/amd64:/usr/lib64:/lib64:/lib:/usr/lib

which may be missing /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/jni/

A start script could be written instead of linking dicomscope directly to the
jar, that resolves
-Djava.library.path=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/jni/ properly for all
architectures.

[Bug 1645116] Re: [Brother DCP-J715W] core dumped executing scanimage -L

2017-01-13 Thread Sylvain Viart
Hi,

I saw the "System Settings > Security & Privacy > Diagnostics > Show
Previous Reports" in the doc, but I don't know yet how to reproduce it
on xubuntu. If you got a URL or a command line to start it, it would be
a great help. Not really important, but it could help, I will read the
doc more deeper, I may found it.

For our bug here:

The brother multifunction is configured as a network device using wifi
on the local wifi router as my laptop. I assigned it a fixed dhcp IP
address. We have 5 computers using it, 1 ubuntu and 4 xubuntu, as
printer as well as a scanner. I installed all computer following the
same documentation.

I currently use a VM running xubuntu 16.04 on my laptop, in order to
scan.

The following may not be part of the problem, but I don't know :

I also noticed some network change in xubuntu 16.10 which introduce some
problems related to printer : /etc/nsswitch.conf : I can't use anymore
detected netbios name published by the printer itself to setup the
printer device in the printing area. It was not involved into scanning,
as far as I now, because I always using IP to configure brscan3. Now I
also need to use IP for the printer config, before it was :
dnssd://Brother DCP-J715W._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/ now I use :
socket://192.168.1.27

Back to the scanner, there's also a lib64/lib32 error/mistake in brother
path install, I must copy the lib at the good emplacement.

Here's my own doc:

sudo brsaneconfig3 -a name=scanner model=DCP-J715W ip=192.168.1.27
sudo brsaneconfig3 -p
test scanner
ping 192.168.1.27 -w 10

[Bug 1656237] [NEW] Shutdown/reboot hangs forever if an autossh process is started by rc.local

2017-01-13 Thread Ivan Kozik
Public bug reported:

If an autossh process is started by /etc/rc.local, a xenial system is no
longer able to shut down. It seems to hang forever, not just for a few
minutes.

Repro steps:

As root:

# Set up an autossh tunnel (in this example, from localhost to localhost):
apt-get install autossh openssh-server
ssh-keygen
cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
chmod 0600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
ssh root@localhost true
  "yes", accept the fingerprint

# Test that autossh works:
autossh -f -L 127.0.0.2:22:127.0.0.1:22 root@localhost -N
ps auxw | grep autossh
  autossh should be listed

# Add to /etc/rc.local before exit line:
autossh -f -L 127.0.0.2:22:127.0.0.1:22 root@localhost -N &

# Enable rc-local service if necessary:
systemctl enable rc-local.service

Reboot.

After booted into system, `shutdown -r now`. Observe that systemd
always hangs forever during shutdown.

HTX is a user space test-suite using OS system calls to perform write/read
operations to disks. It opens disks using O_DIRECT flag, thus bypasses
filesystem
cache with write/read ops. Here HTX has reported write fails with errno = 1
(Operation not permitted) at same time as os-prober fails get logged into
Linux logs. So wondering if its os-prober that somehow caused HTX write
operations to fail ?

And in case yes, wondering if there a way we can prevent write fails
for user space application due to conflict with os-prober ?

It will be good to avoid os-prober errors getting logged into Linux.
This will avoid confusion about things going wrong with file systems
onto box, which isn't the reality due to cosmetic errors.

[Bug 1656248] [NEW] Changing the order of monitors leads to off-screen windows

2017-01-13 Thread Cs-gon
Public bug reported:

The following steps lead to off-screen windows when using compiz on
Ubuntu 14.04 (e.g. when using Unity), and having no virtual desktops
configured:

- Start system and login (with only one monitor connected, or using a laptop)
- Connect an additional monitor after logging in, or connect the laptop to a
docking station with an external monitor connected to it (which then should be
automatically configured to be the right monitor)
- Open a window on the additional (right) monitor
- Change the order of monitors in the display settings (put the originally left
monitor to the right, and vice versa)
- Now the window which was opened on the originally right (now left) monitor is
now off-screen

The problem is, that when the order of monitors get changed, the code that
recalculates the window positions, calculates the wrong positions.

To calculate the new window positions, the code saves the current
desktop resolution (in case the resolution changes), then changes the
display configuration (e.g. enables the new monitor and re-configures
the desktop) and then uses the saved (now old) desktop resolution to
calculate the window positions for the new resolution.

The problem is, that when changing the order of monitors, as described
above, the code does not actually save the current desktop resolution
(the resolution of the both monitors combined), so does not realize that
the desktop resolution has actually not changed (just the order of
monitors).

It then uses the old saved resolution (which was the resolution for the
initial single-monitor configuration). It then calculates the wrong new
window positions (because it thinks the window was an a non-existing
virtual desktop).

The fix for the problem is to save the current desktop resolution not
only when the resolution changes, but every time the display
configuration changes.

The problem also exists when using virtual desktops, but then the window
might only be pushed to another virtual desktop, or still off-screen,
depending on where the windows was placed initially.

I will attach a patch that solves the problem. The patch makes sure that the
current desktop resolution gets saved every time the display configuration
changes, and not only when the actual desktop resolution changes.

The patch is against compiz-0.9.11.3+14.04.20160425. But the problem seems
still to be present in the latest upstream source. I haven't tested this, but
the problematic code is still the same.

I have also given you the root cause:

Generic kernel configuration has CONFIG_NR_CPUS=256

The question is if Ubuntu is willing to change the defaults like RedHat

[Bug 1645698] Re: [SRU] Upgrade network-manager to latest point release

2017-01-13 Thread Aron Xu
- d/rules: yes that helped a lot for testing

- commenting out patch: in xenial branch we haven't switched to gbp-pq
yet, and historically some patches were commented out when not used, and
I'm following it

- it was believed not useful during a bunch update of n-m 1.2 packages
(both debian and ubuntu), but later we switched back to hook up the
service in WantedBy=network-online.target dynamically. This change makes
it easier to disable the service and is what we have in yakkety, but the
change can be dropped if it's not appropriate for SRU.

[Bug 1619354] Re: [SRU] network-manager-applet

2017-01-13 Thread Aron Xu
- d/rules: updated in changelog

- bug #1651019, for zesty there's a branch needs sponsor as well:

https://code.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/+git/ubuntu-applet/+ref/master

- for #1597151 I think it's harmless to ignore since they got verified
in yakkety for quite some time...

As for the rename, they would make diffs between yakkety and xenial
trivial thus I believe it's worthwhile.

[Bug 1643544] Re: HP Scanjet 7400c Scanner locks USB2 port

2017-01-13 Thread Wolf
Thanks for your attention.

I did a SSO login and opened this issue web page (1643544).
Then did the command:

apport-collect 1643544
Package sane-backends not installed and no hook available, ignoring
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.

A window pops up "no further information gathered" (see attachment)

$ sudo apt-get install sane-backends
says that the package cannot be found. I cannot find it in synaptic either. And
this page
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu2)
says, that it's for USB3 "or fast recent hardware" - which is not available at
my system.

So - what can I do now.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-304=304.131-0ubuntu3 \
 nvidia-opencl-icd-304=304.131-0ubuntu3 \
 libcuda1-304=304.131-0ubuntu3 \
 nvidia-settings=361.42-0ubuntu1 \
 libxnvctrl0=361.42-0ubuntu1

(Note 1: This recipe is valid now. It refers specific versions that are
in Ubuntu 16.04.1 and in PPA _now_. Not sure if it will work later, if a
repository removes old versions.)

(Note 2: Every command looking like:
part1 \
part2 \
… \
lastPart
-- is a single command. You can either paste it all-at-once, or line-by-line
(last line is without "\", other lines must end with "\"). Or you may merge it
into single line _with removing slashes_ ("part1 part2 … lastPart").)

But, as 304.131 works for you, you have no need to explicitly upgrade to
304.134. Just wait until 304.134 will appear itself. (Sorry, first I
didn't realize that 304.131 works for you.)

[Bug 1656259] [NEW] Linux ZFS port doesn't respect RLIMIT_FSIZE

2017-01-13 Thread Colin Watson
Public bug reported:

  bash -c 'ulimit -f 1024; yes | head -n2097152'
>/path/on/filesystem/under/test

On ext4, this test case prints something along the lines of:

bash: line 1: 11274 Broken pipe yes
   11275 File size limit exceeded(core dumped) | head -n2097152

On ZFS, this test case incorrectly exits zero with no output,
demonstrating that ZFS does not respect RLIMIT_FSIZE.

I asked a friend to run this on Solaris 5.10 and FreeBSD 10.0-CURRENT,
and on those systems this test case correctly generates SIGXFSZ; so it
seems that this is a bug in the Linux port of ZFS.

(This was discovered while tracking down Launchpad test suite failures
under LXD on ZFS. Launchpad uses RLIMIT_FSIZE in one place to guard
against bugs that cause debdiff to generate arbitrarily large amounts of
output and fill the disk.)

You're analysis LGTM - I'll figure out how we enable things appropriate
with the mix of stuff we have in distro - I think targets need to be
enabled by default, but the distro specific bits don't.

[Bug 1656042] Re: unity-scopes-api FTBFS with Qt 5.7.1

2017-01-13 Thread Pete Woods
There seems to be some weirdness with Qt5.7 messing with build flags.
For indicator-network, where we have C++14 enabled, Qt seemed to be
inserting -std-c++11 (or whatever the exact flag is) in addition.

Switching to the new set(CMAKE_CXX_STANDARD 14) and set(CMAKE_C_STANDARD
11) seemed to resolve it.

[Bug 1629870] Re: [SRU] Trouble installing mainline kernel 4.8: virtualbox-dkms 5.0.24-dfsg-0ubuntu1.16.04.1: virtualbox kernel module failed to build

This seems to be a rather big change so I would appreciate if the bug
could also include the Regression Potential field from the SRU template
in the bug description. Would be also good if you could include a list
of changes coming with this release in comparison to the previous
version so that we know if it's indeed only fixing bugs (as you have
done it in the previous virtualbox SRU bug).

Thanks!

[Bug 1655774] Re: kcharselect segfaults on yakkety with kubuntu backports

2017-01-13 Thread Sergio Callegari
Bug has been identified by the KDE developers to be due to the qt
accessibility support via qt at-spi integration.

According to the KDE developers, kubuntu is the main/sole user of this
technology among major distros shipping KDE, which is why the issue is
not reproducible by them who do not have the at-spi integration in their
qt libraries.

[Bug 1654271] Re: host machine freezes

2017-01-13 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
So as far as I understand, when you take avx2/fma away from the guest
things work, but if you keep them enabled (via cpu model) it fails?

Generally those features should be supported, to most of it they are
just processor features and passed through.

By Default I think avx2 is passed but fma is not - maybe that was you case.
I checked with to get all I can and then check
like /proc/cpuinfo which confirms I have them all.

Since this is not emulation I'd hope that KVM itself isn't really
involved in doing a lot after setting up initially.

Is Radeon crimson relive even supported in a virtual guest?
If it freezes what is the qemu status?
Maybe check more of the status via https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/QEMU/Monitor

If you would find an equivalent test in a linux guest that I could retry
that would very useful.

[Bug 1656281] [NEW] UbuntuKVM: Packaging: Update Wok, Gingerbase, Ginger, and Kimchi to version 2.3.

2017-01-13 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Hello Canonical.

We request to upgrade kimchi and ginger to latest upstream version
2.3.1.

Unfortunately we will not be able to push kimchi in Debian in time for
17.04, so, we are asking you to include Kimchi on Ubuntu, and we will
have kimchi into Debian by the 17.10 time frame.

Two new packages were split up from kimchi and ginger and are required
as a dependency now: wok 2.3.1 and ginger-base 2.2.2.

All packages are available on mentors:

dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/wok/wok_2.3.1-1.dsc
dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/ginger-base/ginger-base_2.2.2-1.dsc
dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/ginger/ginger_2.3.1-1.dsc
dget -x https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/k/kimchi/kimchi_2.3.1-1.dsc

[Bug 1656280] [NEW] Support installing subordinate systemd on Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.5

2017-01-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

Add support for installing subordinate systemd for snappy on Ubuntu
Desktop 14.04.5

When installed, superseeds systemd-shim support functionality by:
* Providing necessary units for power management
* Replicating systemd-shim timedated support functionality in timedated itself
(thus dropping systemd-shim dependency from timedated code)

Bugfixes to cgmanager codepath for compatibility with lxc:
* free NULL bug fix
* fix cg_attach for subordinate systemd

[Impact]

 * Users can install snapd without regressing Desktop support,
lxc/lxc1/lxd abilities.

[Test Case]

 * Power management works (e.g. shutdown/reboot via indicator-system)

 * Timedatectl commands report NTP status enable/disabled correctly, and
can change it

 * Can install and use snapd

 * Can install and use lxc / lxc1 / lxd

[Regression Potential]

 * Installing snapd will pull in cgmanager and bin:systemd on the
desktop, superseding systemd-shim. Thus things that rely on systemd-shim
implementations may regress.

Thanks for that Pete.

we need to pull in your cmake fixes. I think we have those in devel
already, but not released yet. I’ll figure it out on Monday :)
